Given the amazing NYC cocktail scene, we thought our cocktails were very basic. We shared the deviled eggs, a sushi dish and the crab cakes. Our parents really liked all the apps. For the entrees, I was the only one who didnt stick to their Mothers day brunch and got the ribeye with a side of mashed potatoes and brussel sprouts. The sides were bomb. I have been to Ocean Prime in the theater district of Manhattan many times and I'd like to precede my review with sharing that it is my favorite restaurant on the planet. The ambiance is romantic and dimly lit. You should aim to go dressed well to blend nicely. The service is amazing. From the hosts/tesses to the servers, everyone is polite, patient, and well-informed. In addition, you can get pretty much anything you want. If you find something on the menu and you'd like to add something to it (cheese, lobster, etc.), they're happy to customize it for you. Now I saved the best part for last: the food. If you are a seafood freak like me, this is the place (although my dates who've ordered steak here tell me it's amazing). I always order the jumbo shrimp cocktail (huge, chilled, and served with amazing cocktail sauce). I also always have the French onion soup as that's a favorite of mine and a must have everywhere; it is perfectly balanced here (tender onions, great cheese, and a good crouton to onion ratio; served hot). For dinner I had the twin lobster tails (perfect because DUH LOBSTER) with asparagus. We ordered mashed potatoes (8/10), black truffle Mac and cheese (a MUST HAVE 10/10), and the smoked Gouda tater tots (not my fav but they were definitely quality). In addition the drinks are crafted very well. I ALWAYS get berries and bubbles (a Belvedere based cocktail that puts on a bubbly show and it's super tasty). I took my mom to Ocean Prime for her birthday. We'd planned to go somewhere else but ended up here last minute, and despite it being pretty busy on a Tuesday, we were still graciously given one of the best tables. There's literally nothing bad (or even neutral) that I can say about this place. Everything was excellent - from the ambiance, to the food (particularly the Sea Bass, it's to die for!), to the service... and specifically Enver! He took the best care of us - with a smile and kindness and great attentiveness all evening. He helped me create for my mom the most special celebration, and a lovely, warm memory. He helped me surprise mom with special dessert cake candles, obliged to take multiple photos of us with enthusiasm (and they came out really great), and was just an all-around beautiful presence for us, along with the rest of the highly professional and attentive staff. We love coming here for special occasions, usually birthdays as was the case this past October. The cuts of meat are superb, and always cooked perfectly to temperature. Their seafood is also fresh and delicious. We started with the Point Judith calamari (so crispy and served with a delicious sweet chili sauce), and went on to teriyaki salmon, an 8oz. filet mignon and 14oz. NY strip. For sides, we selected the miso-garlic broccoli, garlic mashed potatoes and bacon creamed spinach. Wow! All were enjoyed immensely! As always, we had the sublime warm butter cake with vanilla ice cream and raspberry sauce - it may be what keeps me pulling me back there! Their lunch menu has many choices under $30 but if you have a hankering for a big steak, it's there too. We love the space, with two large dining areas and a gorgeous bar, and there's also an enclosed sidewalk dining area. Wow, it's been a few days and I'm still dreaming about those amazing lobster tails I had. I loved my experience here. My friend, Benjamin, decided to treat me to this fine dining experience. We were able to reserve a table the day before through Resy, so that was convenient. They check your vaccination upon arrival. The restaurant has two levels and there was ample seating (they seated the two of us at a 4 person table). We were greeted by one of the managers. Such a kind soul! I wish I got his name. He was very helpful throughout the entire experience. He explained that all the seafood was fresh and caught the day of (wow!). We ordered crab cake for starters. While it was only one piece, it was the most scrumptious piece of crab I've had. Sooo good! We ordered the lobster tails to share. Again, really good (the tails is usually where the bulk of the lobster meat is). Very different to my last experience with lobster back in Maine, where everything was just messy and I was fighting with my lobster. I managed to somehow get injured even though it was already dead. Lol. But anyways, nothing like that here; All the meat is already pulled out for you and rests beautifully on the back of the lobster (not sure how they did that!) For dessert, we ordered the 24 layer chocolate cake and French press coffee. I was full by the end of it. Place is very beautiful and bathrooms are big and clean (They provide complimentary tampons in the female bathrooms!). I think everyone will feel welcome here. Even though it felt like we were the younger ones of the demographic, I think this place still attracts all kinds of people and the managers are very friendly. So Ocean Prime has been on my to do list for a long time. Had a drink at the bar it was very active at 630pm. We both had martinis they were perfectly made with blue cheese olives. We then sat down to a well spaced table and ordered another cocktail. Started with some sushi the Ocean Roll it was fresh and delicious We then went with the 8oz filet mignon added gouda potatoes and spinach and a side of lobster macaroni and cheese. Service was attentive and excellent the food was incredible and tasty. Also had a glass of wine with dinner, but I chose a Super Tuscan by the glass that was fresh and on point. Ambiance definitely is reason to go. A place for celebrations and to impress. Come classy but comfortable. A ton of stairs for the restroom and additional seating. Service disappointed. Obligatory but would not even allow or provide a tasting of wines to decide; glasses not bottles. Never had that happen even at a sub-star place. Always had Staff oblige and make suggestions but not here. Didn't even return to ask did we want anything else outside the Brooklyn Lager. Eventually ordered the Black Orchid, which was well-balanced, nice but extremely weak. The Blackened Snapper was beautiful but underwhelming. It needed flavor. No salt, no compliments. Pretty much the same theme for each item, except the Lambchops. The Chops came grilled in an au jus and perfectly roasted garlic. The four (4) Chops were seasoned well, tender and delicious. The accompanying Garlic Mashed Potatoes were smooth but again, needed seasoning and butter. The Garlic chips were a nice addition but could have added more. The Lobster Bisque was too heavily rouxed and the Sherry was not cooked out. Again, needed seasoning and more Tomato paste, double concentrate would help for depth and flavor. You get approximately a Tablespoon of chopped Lobster. Not worth it. The Jumbo Lump Crabcake was good but basic. Mayo, saltiness and salt seemed to be the filler. Added fresh Lemon juice and hot sauce for a bit more pizzazz. Cooked beautifully but fell apart with each bite. The Slaw was DELICIOUS! Had with Beet Salad, golden and red. Came with toasted sliced almonds. Good but again, needed seasoning or a flavorful and fruity Vinaigrette. Technically, overall, this would be a 3.8 but the ambiance is definitely a 4.5-5. There was a private bar and heavy apps. The food was plentiful and quality. I only saw 2 servers but they worked both rooms and trays were full of food. The trays just kept magically appearing. My wife and I had a celebratory dinner at Ocean Prime last week. From start to finish, our experience was nothing short of exceptional! From our initial encounter at the check-in desk to our service all throughout the evening, we were treated with smiles, warm greetings, and friendly advice & recommendations. Our server, Nore, was fantastic - he was courteous, always checked in at the right time, and every recommendation he made was spot on. Shortly after being seated, we were given a basket of warm breads with whipped butter. The breads were enjoyable, and we had to tell ourselves not to eat too much of it so we didn't get full before we got to our food. For apps, we had the Beet Salad and Jumbo Lump Crab Cake. Both were delicious and a nice warm-up for our respective main courses of Blackened Snapper & Chilean Sea Bass. Both fishes were flavorful without being over-seasoned. They were cooked to perfection and had no unpleasant fishiness. While neither portion was huge, they were satisfying, especially in concert with sides of Jalapeno Au Gratin and Asparagus w. Hollandaise. The potatoes may have been one of my favorite "simple" sides I've had in recent memory at a comparable restaurant - they were nothing fancy but well executed and with just the right punch of flavor and not too dense/heavy. While we were satisfied after our meal, we opted for dessert anyway and ordered the Chocolate Torte. To our surprise, Nore also brought over a Crème Brulee "on the house". We opted to share the Crème Brulee there and asked for them to pack the untouched torte to-go so that we wouldn't overdo it. The Brulee was exquisite - it was not too thick and was sweetened perfectly and the torte was fantastic the next day as well. As for the restaurant itself, it was attractive, spacious, and with high ceilings. We were seated in a corner booth section so we were not surrounded by people and could have an intimate meal. We opted to dress nicely for the evening since it was for a special occasion, but you could get away with more casual attire (some folks were way too casually dressed for this setting if you ask me but there is no strict dress code). On the other end of the spectrum, there were several folks in very fancy dresses and some nattily-attired gentlemen as well. While we dropped a pretty penny, it was well worth it for the quality and service we enjoyed. We would most definitely return though this experience set the bar awfully high. Food: I ordered the 16 ounce prime rib steak (medium), appetizers like tuna, oysters, and deviled eggs. I even had the lobster bisque soup, glasses of wine and a mojito. The bread basket has soft pretzel fingers and sour dough- all warm, with whipped butter on the side. The highlight definitely was the steak because it was soooo tender and cooked perfectly! The sides were asparagus, jalapeños potatoes, and mushrooms. I'd order the mushrooms and asparagus again but the potatoes had no flavor for something with jalapeños in the title. This is to date one of the best steak houses my family and I have ever been to, and we go to a lot. I have been here twice now, once a few years ago and one more recently. The food is always fantastic. I always get the ribeye with truffle butter. So good! Others in our party got lobster tails and shrimp add ons, also delicious. For sides we love the creamed spinach here, it is exceptional (but have also had and enjoyed the corn, fries, potatoes, its all good). The chopped salad was also great, and they even let me split it with my sister and served it on two plates for us since they are big and easily shareable. The cocktails and wine list is also great.
