I always love to check out a place and see the reviews after - it puts everything into perspective. This is definitely one of those reviews where I did not check Yelp prior to visiting but after. Here's the scoop: 1. Views - unbeatable; stunning 2. Atmosphere - resort like (definitely feels like you were on a plane for hours before you got there because I did not realize gorgeous places like this exist in MA) 3. Food - delicious; yes, took a little longer but I'll take that over an Olive Garden microwaved meal all day/any day and 5 times on Sundays 4. Drinks - We shared a bottle of champagne; nothing to write home about and actually pricing was decent compared to other choices.( Bottle of Veuve Cliqout at the store is $65, in the restaurant it was $75- mark up that is absolutely expected) Now, yes specialty drinks are pricier than your pub but what I still find baffling is that people write on Yelp complaining about a $12 cocktail...where are you from? Even in Boston in a smelly, basement bar you pay $15 for a cocktail- so I'll take the view, delicious drink and check please. Btw- we originally tried to order the bottle of Prosecco and they ran out; I thought I'd point that out on my review so I have one damn thing to complain about 5. Service- I am absolutely AMAZED that people complain about the service here. We were attended to, fed, manager even came over to apologize about not having Prosecco, which he didn't need to do - we hung out on the patio 'brunching' for 4 hours ; not once did we have to raise our hand to ask for service,, they were attentive, diligent, prompt and friendly. I absolutely loved that the staff was so diverse- great conversation starters and they are all so eager and happy to engage in a conversation - absolutely loved that their name tags stated where they were from so it stops the awkward ' You have an accent, where are you from?' piece. 6. Overall, my experience at ocean edge was poor. Immediately walking in the boys working at the front door of the hotel greeted us, and we said hello and continued on to the restaurant as we weren't guests at the hotel. Once we passed we heard one say "well... hi and bye...". Not something one should say while they're working to a visitor. Waited about 15 min. For our check when the server came back to claim the computers were broken. We continued to wait when another server came over and asked us if we were ok (obviously we didn't look happy). We told her the computers were down and she looked confused (they weren't down). The manager was called in (per our request) and we got our check back instantly.... no computer error. Manager was appologetic but you could tell there wasn't much meaning behind what he said. No explanation was given as to why the card wouldn't go through, because the computer wasn't broken. We stated that the service had been poor each time we had come and all we were told was "I'm sorry". Not good enough. Lacks professionalism completely. Overall I'd say skip this place. Not worth it to me. If you're gunna come for the experience this isn't the place and I'm sure there's other ocean front restaurants where you'll actually enjoy the food AND the experience. read more

Stopped by for lunch today with my wife. Food was good service was horrible. Young man was preoccupied with chatting with the bartender as opposed to paying attention to his tables. Ordered a second beer, never arrived but was on the bill, after getting the check and placing my credit card in the billfold I waited a good 15 minutes and finally went up to the bar to pay the bill. Had to walk out to get anyone to notice that we were there. We thought it would be a great place to go out on a date while the grandparents watch the kids for us ... we got there early and were immediately seated. We decided to order drinks first, my wife a glass of wine and a draft beer for me. The wine came shortly thereafter, however we were told that the taps for all the drafts were 'down'. I ordered a cocktail and 20 minutes later, has not received it. The view was nice, I am sure sunset is really beautiful there, but we felt the patio was cramped. We own a home at Ocean Edge and we love to go to the Ocean Terrace for drinks. The atmosphere is amazing and the sunsets are magnificent. The bartenders, for the most part, are terrific-- Marge is the best. That being said, they just can't seem to get the food right. The meals are mediocre and very overpriced. There are very few appetizers worth ordering that make you want to hang out at the bar to keep ordering drinks. We will often watch the sunset there and then leave to have dinner somewhere else (Brewster Fish house or the pool bar at the Wequasset) . Too bad the food isn't worth staying for. read more

Went for an anniversary lunch with two other couples. The ambiance was great and the staff couldn't have been nicer, but the food was not good. The crusted cod was unexpected since it was a terrible fish and chips (deep fried) without the fries( just a tasteless German potato salad? Really. The Asian noodles with beef tenderloin was also tasteless. The hamburger and fries was the best thing on the lunch menu. There was no non-alcoholic beer at the bar, which is stupid, would have cost them $1.50 and could have charged at least 5 or 6 dollars. Embarrassed to have our friends pay $ 77.00 per couple. Get your act together!!!! You could have a great restaurant. So glad we didn't have our daughter's wedding there and went to the Wequassett. I can't believe the low ratings at Ocean Terrace! My husband and I have come back twice for our anniversary after getting married at Ocean Edge, and both times have been stellar experiences. As a halibut connoisseur, I can honestly say that this is the best I've ever had, and my husband has ordered the special (duck) and the scallops, and been extremely happy with them. I'd make the drive from Boston just for the entrees alone. The service here has been outstanding, down to offering up some (very soft) blankets to keep me warm on the terrace during dinner during those lovely June "summer" months..... Love love Ocean Terrace, and will keep coming back for sure! read more

Big prices for small portions. View was good. Various entrees such as the Bouillabaisse, the Fluke, and the Penne Marinara were extremely bland. Some ingredients that were in the Fluke entree, which my mother ordered, couldn't be identified. My Penne Marinara was served warm. I'm not sure what all the fuss is about. This is a really good restaurant. Yes it's expensive but you're at one of the top resorts on the Cape. What do you expect? We've eaten here many times and the food is wonderful. And I hate everything. The cranberry mojitos are amazing. Just dont have too many! All the fish dishes we've had were great, the soups and appetizers are all terrific. You might have to wait a while or make a reservation but it's worth it. Don't be a cheap skate- GO. read more

Unfortunately I have to echo others comments regarding the poor service. We stopped by for some drinks and hardly ever saw our server. To make matters more frustrating, the fire alarm started going off and continued for nearly 30 minutes. It was exceptionally disturbing to all guests and not one of the staff, including the manager, said anything to anyone. Not an apology, offer to be restated, nothing. There are so many other great places on the Cape, this one should be avoided. read more

Search for somewhere else when considering dining here. This is a beautiful place for a nice cocktail but the food is very expensive and not well prepared. Expect to spend arounf $300 for 4 people (if drinks aren't ordered). Food was overcooked and the service was lacking. We had to ask twice to have our waters refilled and our other beverages weren't even refreshed. There are much better places to eat in the area. Try the Brewster Fish House if you're looking for somewhere that is truly high-end (not just in their prices). read more

Not as bad as these others would have you believe, but definitely room for improvement. The service can likely be chalked up to summer help, which flies in from everywhere. Most of the staff we encountered across the property, including the restaurant, were quite pleasant and competent. Coming from Chicago, we are used to exceptional dining experiences - and for the price, we expected one here, but it did fall short of our expectations. A typical resort dining experience with good food and about average service. Had our table not been infested by no-see-ums, we likely would have enjoyed the meal more. I would recommend the chicken, and the portobello entree, and the lobster with chorizo appetizer was fantastic. But in terms of value for the money, chalk it up to the resort mark-up effect. read more

Might have been the worst service I have ever had. Sat at the bar and it took at least 15 minutes for the bartender to acknowledge us, he then got our order wrong. The bartop was covered with dirty dishes that weren't taken care of until after we got our drinks. I would have understood if it was busy, but it's a Monday night and the bar wasn't even full. I finished my drink and he never checked back to see if I needed anything else. They are lucky the view is great, or else no one would go there. read more

Beautiful view but the food is definitely not worth the money. One person in my party even found a dead fly in her meal, although they did try to make it up for us by desserts, a lot of us had already lost our appetite. We never come here for the food as we already know it is beyond terrible but we do treat ourselves to a glass or two of overpriced wine and enjoy the view. We know that the service stinks, but we put up with it for the view. The other day a facebook feed came across advertising $1 oysters from 5-8 pm. Score! My husband I went to the beach then showered and arrived at 5. The waitress was extremely rude (something Ocean Edge is known for) and said that it the $1 oysters were from 3-5. When I brought up the post on my phone, she made it seem like it was my fault. My husband went over to the bar and insisted they honor this deal as they posted it. The bartender agreed and said he would make up the oysters and have our waitress bring it over. She never showed. About a half hour later, my husband had to go back to the bar to get our oysters. Then she had the nerve to show back up at our table and state that we were lucky to get the oysters for a dollar. I think we will share a bottle of wine on the beach and watch the sunset from now on. read more

We rented a house nearby and walked over to the Ocean Terrace for cocktails one night. It was absolutely fabulous. There is nothing else like this place in the Cape. The views are gorgeous; perfect spot to watch the sunset! The terrace is quit large and sprawling, so although we were there on a busy Saturday night the week of the 4th of July, it did not feel crowded. There is a center bar, lots of tables and fire pits you can sit around. We ended up sitting at all 3 of these options throughout the night. Service was great. Servers constantly checked on us when sitting at the tables and fire pits, even after we got drinks at the bar. Yes the drinks are expensive. If you're looking for cheap drinks, don't come here. You have to realize you're paying for the beautiful and swanky atmosphere in addition to a well-made cocktail. read more

Our group was staying the night at the villages and the staff recommended the Ocean Terrace for dinner and great view. They were right about the view! Amazing sunset visible from the terrace. Staff was pleasant and quite exceptional. Really the view and staff are what contributes to the 2 stars given. Otherwise, the food was overpriced and one individual from our group sent her dish back because a live worm was found in her halibut! Not only is one not expecting a live worm to be found in a $40+ dish, but absolutely no management at the establishment came to us to apologize for it! This to me is unheard of and a testament as to how they view customer service. My recommendation would be to go to the Terrace for a drink to enjoy the sunset but spend your money on a great meal elsewhere in town. Very much not worth it here. read more

Probably okay for a drink but don't waste your money for dinner. Clam chowder was nauseatingly thick and, worse, it was delivered barely lukewarm. Both of the salads we ordered, wedge and baby kale, were drenched in fatty, thick white dressing. The swordfish was dry and not fresh. Nothing is worse than spending a lot of money on a bad meal. This is actually for the beach front tiki bar restaurant which is also run by Ocean edge. In a word awful. I gave it one star for the gorgeous setting. One star for the drinks. However the service and menu are terrible. They only hire European (mostly eastern) temp summer help, which is definitely fine, however this must be day 2 for them maybe - none of them quite get it or are able to be helpful for anything even remotely off-script - like asking for a change in menu item or sending something back or even changing the music - it was stuck on a sonos Christmas playlist and it's June 23 (funny at first for the kids but after an hour or so...) My wife had to send her burger back 3 times - once because she asked for potato chips (standard menu) and it came with waffle fries (she previously told them she has a gluten allergy), it came back with standard straight French fries. For context - We had a very friendly girl from Ireland waiting on us - her response was "sorry. In my country chips means fries" Ha! Yes she got us there. So we sent it back again, the third time it came out with potato chips but was done in a hurry and was literally raw in the middle - falling apart raw and cool. Not rare. Raw. So we just said forget it. It had been 40 min anyway. My wife was almost in tears (we've been here on cape for a wile at this hotel which is not great - and as a person with celiacs it tough to find something to eat here - just fried crap everywhere you go). I am surprised at the low ratings here, but it seems that there must be a vibe. My family had an awesome sunset dinner here last night. The service was attentive and the atmosphere was beautiful. The terrace on a summer night was awesome during sunset. My party had oyster appetizers and mussels. The mussels were HUGE (amount and size)...I think actually too big, but that is a matter of preference. It was enjoyed. I got the raw oysters and there were only 4....for the money there probably should have been 6, but they were good. For dinner, two diners had the scallop dinner and I had the bass. My daughter had clam chowder with the kale salad. I would agree with another review here.....the dressing was too thick! Dont kill the kale! It tasted good though....just use less. She liked the clam chowder. It was thick, but mild tasting and that is how she likes it. I had the bass special and it was DELICIOUS. No desserts because we needed to head to the beach to catch the end of the Cape Cod sunset. It was a beautiful setting and it ended our Cape Cod vacation on a high note. read more

The view was the only nice thing about this "restaurant". My dad and I went during lunch on vacation and he doesn't drink so he said "do you want to get a drink and we can look at the view?" And I wanted a Bloody Mary so the lady sat us and handed us menus and my dad said "I think we're just going to get a drink" she grabbed the menus and asked what we wanted. I ordered a Bloody Mary and my dad ordered a water. She said ok and walked away. Meanwhile the table with 2 sets of parents and about 5 soccer uniform wearing children ordered their drinks AFTER us, got their drinks, and ordered their food. We never saw the waitress again. We sat there for about 20 minutes, looking around, trying to catch the attention of the bartenders watching the game on tv with their hands in their pockets, before we got up and left, without a word from any of the staff. Let's start with the positives. This restaurant is BEAUTIFUL. The view is spectacular and the drinks are good. Unfortunately, I can not recommend coming here for anything besides that. Out of our party of 5, three of us ordered the filet mignon medium rare. All three filets came out well done, they were gray inside. We sent them back and again three filets came out gray inside, very well done. The filets cost $40 each and the chef ruined 6 of them. Our other two party members ordered seafood, which was also too overcooked and dry to eat. The manager did come over and apologized and took all three steaks off the bill. However we were there for an hour and a half and left starving. Also to note, my aunt called ahead of time and paid for two bottles of champagne for our table as we we're there for a celebration. They charged our bill for the two bottles after she had already paid for them!! Luckily I caught it and made them refund us. If this place could get their act together it would be the best restaurant on the cape. Sadly we got Papa Gino's on the way home. Such a disappointment. read more

This past Sunday night I met an old friend at Ocean Terrace for a drink and appetizer. I love the ambiance of the place and after owning in Ocean Edge many years ago I always wanted to come back to the loveliness of the place. I had been once before in recent years and it was wonderful on all counts. The service, food and outstanding view made me yearn for more. Although I was completely unhappy with everything that night last Sunday. The bartender that originally greeted me didn't ask me if I would like a drink. After waiting 10 minutes I had to wave him over when I was able to catch his eye. He was very deep in conversation with a customer at the corner of the bar. I ordered a drink I have always enjoyed and recalled it being great the last time I visited. I was truly disappointed as it was a martini and I could not even taste the top shelf vodka I had requested. As he placed my drink I mentioned I would like to order food. He went back to talking to this woman and did not bring me a menu. I waited about 15 minutes after trying to catch his attention and asked the other bartender who was working the other end of the bar if I could see a menu. I ordered crab cakes something I love and was so surprised by the fact that it was cold, had the tiniest bit of remoulade and was over $15.00. So for $33.00 I felt very dissatisfied. I have been to many other establishments on the Cape. I have lived here for over 20 years. Most places bend over backwards to be friendly and attentive. To sit at the bar and be ignored while a bartender was so engrossed with a customer and joking around with co-workers I feeling that I should not recommend Ocean Terrace to my friends anymore. I wish I went to management to complain but usually when the service is as it is it is the management fault. read more
