This place was solidly average. Great diner-style breakfast for when you just want some waffles or an omelet, but it's nothing special. When we first showed up around 10:30 on a Sunday, they told us it would be about a 20 minute wait. We sat on some benches outside, and there was a group sitting right outside the front door smoking. I've seen it on a few other reviews, so it seems like it's a common occurrence. The front bit of the store definitely smells like smoke- we noticed it while we were standing in line inside to pay. The wait only ended up being about ten minutes, which we appreciated. They sat us in the back near the kitchen. It wasn't too crowded or too loud, and the waitress was pretty prompt. The table was definitely not leveled though- it rocked pretty significantly. My party ordered eggs Benedict (good, not great), the fiesta waffle (my husband really liked it- he loves sweet breakfasts and it was perfect for him), biscuits and gravy (good sausage gravy, but the biscuits were pretty flat), and a country omelet (good, pretty fluffy, but the cheese was just a slice of American melted on top). Some ordered sides of bacon and it came out unevenly cooked- thankfully for us, the one who likes crisper bacon got the crisp ones, and the one who likes it soft got the less-cooked bacon, but you should probably specify if you care how your bacon is cooked. Someone else ordered a side of gravy (right after we ordered the biscuits and gravy), meaning the breakfast-style white sausage gravy. Instead, the waitress brought out brown gravy. It surprised us- who orders brown gravy with breakfast?? Based on other reviews, the home fries are pretty polarizing- you either really like them or you don't. I fell into the latter camp- they were unevenly cooked and quite bland. They were fine as a vehicle for ketchup, but I prefer when my potatoes have a taste of their own. The coffee was average, but they came around with refills often and gave to-go cups for no extra charge. Our water never got refilled though. The price was pretty reasonable, especially since I checked in and got 10% off. Overall, standard diner quality food. Nothing gourmet, nothing awful. read more

Based on take out orders- Picked up a bunch of orders for lunch for my co workers. I arrived right on time and they still needed 10 minutes before they were ready to go- the place had like 2 parties seated so im not sure why it took so long. The man who checked my order out- was not friendly i used the yelp coupon and he was very annoyed to have to give me 10% off the $60 bill. Here is the thing- if you don't want people to use it for take out ya gotta say so on the coupon- not make people feel bad in the restaurant. This is our only go to breakfast place at the beach. Typically once a week. Not that there is anything wrong with the others, except Denny's (yuck), we just love love love this place. The staff is outstanding and the food is always on point. Bacon is crispy, which is a big deal for me. I mean who wants limp bacon. I have been here a few times and the food is always consistent. I live at the beach and sometimes get tired of the wait times at the standard beaches breakfast spots (Beaches Diner, Metro Diner, Ellen's, etc.). Oceana Diner is a great little spot, and possibly a hidden gem. The servers and owner are friendly, and the place is clean. You can tell these folks take pride in their restaurant. The food is nothing out of the ordinary, but has always been good. I think the omelet is the way to go. Oh, and their potatoes are always crispy! The waitress messed up my check and overcharged me, and when I asked her to change it she said "Fine, I bet you need the money more than I do!"... Disgusting.. This used to be one of our favorite places. Have not been here in a few months. This morning was a shock! Apparently new ownership has made some changes that we did not find favorable. We disagree on the best type of omelet; he likes the toppings mixed into the eggs, while I prefer them just wrapped in the seperately cooked egg (for that go to Beach Hut). But if you like it all mixed in, he says the proportions and consistency are on point here. Great home fries too... again we disagree, he likes the way they come which is well done. But I ordered mine less done and they were so good (see picture). Really good turkey sausage too! Tasted like the real thing to me. Good service, fast. So disappointed. Apparently they have switched owners. No more cappuccinos (they have an amazing machine and used to be my favorite) and the coffee isn't good. The bacon is now thin and miniaturized. We had to order another side of it. The potatoes I loved are also smaller, greasy and too many onions. The French toast has also shrunk to a smaller size. So same menu, new owners, and lower quality of food and service. Our $30 breakfast was not worth it, buy the Groupon if you are headed over then it will be a good deal. read more

This new, local business caught my eye in Folio Weekly some time ago, and now that I hear a waffle house is opening next door (Boooo, like we need another chain restaurant on beach blvd!) I decided to check Oceana out: Walking in, the place is simple and clean. Very friendly staff and the morning rush hustle meets you immediately at the door. The Fiesta Waffle looked like a tower of fluffy, fruity goodness: It was sooooo delicious. If you're looking for indulgence, the fiesta is your choice all the way. My two friends enjoyed the Turkish Breakfast Platter and the Super Breakfast. Eggs cooked perfectly, great sides and timely service. The Turkish platter is light, fresh and unique. Topped with some of that coffee and you got yourself a well balanced meal that you won't feel overstuffed from. Super Breakfast is well executed and classic: Two of my favorite things. I love their regal espresso machine, which delivers very hot well made espresso that serves as a perfect little pick me up in the early morning. Overall this is a solid place to enjoy breakfast and focus on who you are with or the paper you're reading. It's not crazy loud, service is fantastic, coffee is flowing, food is cooked well and decor is simple. No stress environment. I am rooting for this local family business' success here in Jax. The space is very open and well lit, very minimalist decor, like a cross between a diner (which it is) and a restaurant. I look forward to returning. Please can I get a hooray and a hallelujah. Finally somebody who makes an omelet the way I do. They mix the eggs with the filling almost like a quiche. Now this used to be the Over The Ditch restaurant and it is the same but agin with a fresh coat of paint and some different pictures on the walls. I ate there a few times and it was pretty good. The ceiling tiles still have the same water stains that I remember. When I walked in I was greeted by to I'm guessing greek guys leaning on their elbows at the counter. The menu is different now with a few greek additions to it. I went with a country omelet and I was really happy with it. I was also happy to see butter on my toast and not a bucket of ice cold butter pats. In all this was a good meal and I will be back soon enough since I'm working at the beach some now. read more

We just discovered this little gem of a restaurant near us. We came for a late breakfast and so happy we did. The country omelette and potatoes with onions was excellent. Huge, fresh and not greasy. The waffle fiesta had fresh strawberries and bananas with generous amount of whip cream. The super breakfast was ok. The pancake could be more flavorful. I got a meat/cheese sandwich with ham, egg and cheddar cheese. It had plenty of ham, egg and cheese on it. They have turkey patties, bacon sides that are all reasonably priced. Even though the waitress' and busser both basically work right at the counter putting in orders, grabbing food and napkins. In any case, the waitress was very apologetic and nice about it. I ordered the Mediterranean omelet and coffee and the hubs ordered blueberry pancakes, water and OJ. Getting our drinks took another 5 minutes or so. The order came out about 15 or so minutes later. It was ok. Nothing amazing, but good enough. However, about 30 minutes later it was sitting in my stomach like a rock. I don't know if I would go back. Decent prices. Total was $21. read more
