    Spring rolls
    Terri D.

I ordered crispy crunchy noodles and got exactly that! The veg and beef and sauce were separate so they wouldn't sog up the noodles before they got to me. And a nice little treat - they threw in a couple of spring rolls! So nice of them and I was delighted!

    "General Tao's Chicken Lunch Special"
    Roger T.

Came here to pick up a lunch plate. $15.39. Wasted. I ordered the General Tso's chicken with chowmein. The chicken didn't even taste like chicken. It tasted like damn tripe. If you know you know. The portions are super super small. The "on the house egg rolls" were not good whatsoever, super chewy and tasteless. Although I will say that the guy working there was super nice and respectful. But I'm there for food not company. I'm good off this place time to try others !

Westlake Beef soup with no flavor-even soy sauce could save the lack of taste. It should be called Water soup.
    Arlene L.

The food was horrible. There was absolutely no taste and the quality of their food is as horrible as the lack of any kind of taste. The Westlake Soup was like water w/ canned vegetables and the wings had just ONE bone in, taking the other bone to make it separated. I can't even find the words to describe how disappointing and how horrible the food was....whoever hired the cook, the owner should take some time to find a better chef. I'm bringing the food back so they can taste it for themselves!!! ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE!! Don't waste your money.

    Great food with great service!!

Great food with great service!! They even gave me some spring rolls as a courtesy!! How many places will do that for you now days? Food came HOT and food came delicious!! I'll def be ordering again.

First of all this review is long overdue. We found this place during the pandemic and have never actually been there but have ordered many times since. We have tried many things on their menu but some items really stand out and have become regulars such as the fried crab rangoon appetizer that my wife loves. I have tried the mongolian beef and the black pepper beef, both were fantastic. We also love their chicken options...orange, lemon, sesame and Kung Pao have all been great for us. What stands out for me is the excellant service, they are always on time, the food is always piping hot and they are very generous with all the extras like sauces, free spring rolls and lots of fortune cookies! I`m glad we found this place, you will be too.

I really like this restaurant! They have lunch specials every day, which are delicious and give plenty of food for a very reasonable price. They also gave complimentary egg rolls as an appetizer which was such a nice touch. The staff were pretty attentive and service was fast. We ordered the salt and pepper beef lunch special ($8.75; not on the menu but if you request it the kitchen is nice enough to make it for you) which was very crispy and delicious. We also got the walnut prawns ($9.50) which had these gigantic fried prawns with just the right amount of sauce. Apparently they do free delivery for orders over $20 as well!

We order from this place often times. The egg rolls are always on the house. They usually say delivery is about 45 mins but usually gets to you within 30 mins. Today I found this in my food. Maybe they can do a more diligent job on this. Overall food is not bad. Extra $2 for fried rice.

I came with a friend and got seated immediately. In terms of service, there wasn't too much interaction with the staff since you order via QR code, but they will come over and put your receipt on the surface of the table and check off your items as they bring them out. Initially, my friend and I thought they grilled the skewers on the plate at the table; however, it comes pre-cooked and grilled, and the plate itself is there to keep your food warm. I looked under, and it's "powered" by a bunch of tea candles. Between both of us, we ordered some skewers of enoki mushrooms (which was my favorite, super tender and flavorful), some beef skewers, a beef skewer with lychee (super unique), beef tongue (a bit tough for my liking), and chicken skin (extremely crispy, somewhat hard to pull off the skewer). I want to call out again the beef with lychee since this was an item I do not see often. It was interesting because the beef was seasoned well and when combined with the lychee, it added a refreshing note; however, the lychee's textural profile was similar to fatty beef, which personally threw me off a bit as someone who tends not to like fatty cuts (if you are a fan though, you'll like this). Overall, this spot is an okay place to check out if you're in the area. Parking in this area of San Mateo is limited, but the restaurant itself has a lot of tables, so it can be good for bigger parties.

Recently I stopped to pick-up dinner with the plan to have leftovers. I called my order in and was quoted 40 minutes for my order to be ready. Big won ton filled w pork and shrimp. Bok choy Broth not much flavor, in a separate container since this was a take-home order. Curry Beef Stew I've never had Curry beef stew before, prefer chicken, curry, but for some odd reason, I decided to order this dish. It was underwhelming and I won't order it again. The Curry sauce itself was OK but the big long pieces of beef were somewhat gross, lots of fat. They added plenty of slices to onions and a few pieces of green pepper and Julienned carrots, but that's about it for being called a stew. So I learned my lesson by not sticking to my usual order, and won't order wonton soup or curry beef stew again.

I've visited many times, and the consistency of the authentic flavors keeps me coming back. The menu is a deep dive into Shanghainese classics. My personal recommendations: The Staples: You can't go wrong with the Xiao Long Bao, Stir-Fry Rice Cakes, and the Sweet Spare Ribs. The Spicy Pickled Stomach and the Small Shrimp are favorites of mine. Their Cold Noodles and Yellow Croaker are excellent representations of the cuisine. If you visit during the week, check out their lunch specials. Service & Timing The kitchen is generally quite efficient. While a few specific items might take a bit longer to prep, most dishes arrive at the table surprisingly fast. Just be prepared for a crowd--it gets very busy during the lunch rush! There is a small, limited parking lot behind the restaurant, but it fills up fast. If there is an event at the San Mateo Event Center, street parking becomes very challenging. Homemade Soy Milk - 1/5 I think ordering this at dinnertime when the soy milk has been cooking all day was a mistake. It looked fine, but it tasted burned. When I brought attention to it, the server said it was supposed to be that way, denying it was burned and awkwardly joking about it afterward. Unsweetened, so you need to add sugar yourself. Soft Tofu - 4/5 Soft tofu, wood ear, golden needles (daylily buds) in a thickened soup. Looks a bit like hot & sour soup in appearance and texture, but it's neither spicy nor sour. In a few spoonfuls, the soft tofu did taste burned to me, but I could overlook it mostly. Comforting to eat on a cold day. Chive Pie - 3/5 Impressively huge. However, because they are big, thin, and flimsy, you cannot easily eat this as a handheld. Not crispy or thick enough a pancake to hold the delicious eggs & chives filling. Cumin Lamb - 3/5 My friend seemed to enjoy the lamb, but she didn't eat any of the greens, telling me they were for seasoning purposes. I ate the greens, but this dish came out fast and wasn't warm or heated enough. Beijing Mu Shu Pork - 5/5 I enjoyed the taste and texture of this mix of pork, egg, wood ear, cucumber, and golden needles. We were forewarned that this dish doesn't come with pancakes, like typical mu shu entrees do. We received a complimentary shredded potato chilled appetizer (4/5) and warm sesame balls dessert (3/5). Sesame balls seemed overfried. Restaurant has its own dedicated parking lot, so servers are expecting you to enter from the door closest to that. We entered through the street main entrance, which caught them by surprise. Restaurant appears to be a converted house, so you can dine in various little rooms. Restaurant was cold inside. It seemed that one door would not necessarily stay shut. I also don't think the heat was turned up. I felt like all of us were wearing coats. I chose most of the dishes and let my friend order in Mandarin Chinese. The chef came out a couple times to check on us, but primarily interacted with her in Chinese.
