When I walked up to the restaurant, it reminded me of an establishment I used to go to with my family. It had a very familiar, comfortable feeling to it with lots of families and older couples. The menu offered lots to choose from: I ordered a side Caesar salad which was a good size, and the crusted Pacific Snapper. The breading had lots of herbs and spices (I added a bit of salt to bring out more of the flavor), with a fresh lemon sauce. Usually, rice pilaf is a bit of a throwaway, but that wasn't the case with this dish. It was very flavorful and I'm guessing was cooked in a broth. The veggies on the side consisted of asparagus spears, zucchini, carrots, and broccoli. The service was friendly and attentive without being invasive, and of course, there's the view of the water. Came here over the weekend for a late afternoon lunch and sat outside even though it was a little chilly at the end of December. They put some heavy plastic curtains up that are see-through so you can still look out at the marina and it was perfect. Got a few things off the happy hour menu like we have in the past, the ahi nachos are definitely my favorite . Been here a few times now and the location, service and food are excellent. I don't understand some of these reviews by these super picky entitled people. I can't help but imagine they are some of the same customers that I encounter in my life at work. On a recent drive back home from LA to Ramona, I stopped at the perfect halfway point for a snack. Oceanside Harbor is always a favorite place to visit. I checked out Oceanside Broiler for the first time and was really impressed. The restaurant is big, beautiful, clean and full of stunning views, especially from their expansive deck. We had such a nice lunch and selected several items from the "happy hour menu" which began at 11 a.m. we had calamari, grilled mahi-mahi tacos, chowder, and chips which came with pico de gallo and guac. This was enough food for the two of us to be quite full. It was clear that these items were made from scratch. We're looking forward to our next visit to try other selections. The service was great too with the server being friendly and attentive. We've eaten full meals, including brunch here in the past and I'm surprised I haven't written a review until now. The ease of seating here on a busy Mothers Day, should be an easy indicator that something is off. Sure, it is a huge and spacious restaurant which had plenty of seats, but I knew there was something. I had absolutely no qualms about the service. Our waitress was spot on. Speedy through and through - something I love is when my diet drink addiction gets quenched with drink refills. And that's the reason behind my two stars. The food was mid at best. I was expecting pieces of tentacles and rings for calamari. Instead they were calamari sticks. The clam chowder looked halfway decent. At least my almost 8 month old daughter and mom liked it. My half and half plate was lackluster - everything tasted premade like things I've eaten elsewhere. There was nothing about it that tasted made to order. The pieces of cod were small. The coconut shrimp tasted like a brand I get from Costco - with the sauce I easily identified as an Asian bottle sauce I frequently use. Rice pilaf tasted like something premade again. At $22, I could've easily gotten a fresher plate of fried fish down the harbor for cheaper. Looking over at my mom's plate, I could tell her swordfish and veggies were frozen. For a tab that only included 2 soft drinks, 2 appetizers and 3 plates - definitely not worth over $100. Still puzzles me how people are still coming in the lack of food quality doesn't amount to their prices. Chef Robert Irvine and the show Restaurant Impossible needs to come give this place a makeover from top to bottom, but please start with the food. read more

Went here on Wednesday the 26th for lunch and we had a remarkable dining experience! We were seated after a short wait on the patio and the mgr/ host seated us and I requested that he put in an order of calamari for us, rather than passing the order on to a server he handled the request himself! Bernie needs kudos for this as most restaurants pass it on to the server. Debbie our server came to the table and said our calamari was on the way . Debbie, explained to us that she charged us from the small lunch/special menu which was less expensive. The calamari was one of the best we've ever had . We ordered oysters and shrimp for lunch and the shrimp were huge and perfectly cooked. My oysters on the half shell were perfect, not chalky at all and the cocktail sauce with horseradish was spot on ! The New England chowder was fabulWe will return again ! We ordered their combo appetizer plate which was plentiful but left us with a disappointing meal. The coconut shrimp were so overcooked that there was no taste left in the shrimp, dry and insipid. The lettuce cups were something we have never had or seen before! The dressing was salty and sour with a very unusual taste, most of it was Napa cabbage with a very small amount of 1/4 inch diced chicken, once again so overcooked and dry it was hard! We've had lettuce cups in many Chinese restaurants in the past and yours was way off! We are regulars here and will return as their fish and chips, salads, mussels, oysters etc are excellent!
