We've been by here a number of times while riding bikes. Intrigued, by the old-school vibe and quaint charm; I convinced my husband to go here. We were skeptical based on a 3 1/2 star Yelp standing. Ok! Everything about this place was absolutely delightful! From the friendly host who immediately greeted us and gave us a pick of where we wanted to sit. (So many places stick you where they want/need you to sit!) To the ultra pleasant server, Karla, to the quick drinks brought around immediately, and the outstanding dinner, great prices, terrific views...what else could anyone want in an eating establishment?! My guy had the fish & chips...fabulously crispy with nice flakey cod, great order of seasoned fries & traditional Cole slaw! I picked the orange Salmon-to die for! Served with a nice rice pilaf and totally tasty mixed spring veggie side! Healthy portions to boot! The spinach artichoke dip was solidified due to sitting to long before service, the Mahi Mahi tacos were served on a corn tortilla not toasted and fell apart as I went to eat it due to being soggy.. The rice and beans tasted like it just got served out of a great value can from Walmart and the rice was so dry a cup of water would have not made them moist.. I probably would have rather ate rice and beans from any random homeless Californian. The chicken penne pasta sauce was so thin you could have called the entre a soup. We wanted a great restaurant to celebrate Father's Dad. We made reservations before hand my reservation were confirmed. We originallymade the reservation for party of six @ 2:30pm on FAther's Day of all days. We rented a boat around the harbor and we arrived early and they let us move up the time by 1 hour. Our wAitress was named Kaia. You customer service was outstanding. Our drinks were filled at all times. She took our order of 5 by memory and she got every order correct. She didn't forget anything. We stopped by the Broiler for a cocktail and I was very impressed with the service and the quality of the food. Our server Katie was amazing!! She was friendly and knowledgeable and stayed on top of everything. We had Cadillac Margaritas made by the super sweet bartender Ty. She used fresh limes and lemons and made our drinks exactly as we asked. We are a bit particular with our Margaritas, so it was great to have them made just right. I recommend the Ahi Nachos, they are delicious! Plus you look over the Harbor while eating... the whole experience was great. read more

So this is one of our "go to" places & have always had a pleasant experience. That was until this past Saturday the vibe was just off, the diningroom we were seated in had the ambiance of a run down Dennys, our drinks were served in plastic cups & the staff seemed frazzled even though it wasn't very busy. We ordered our usual "half & half" the fish was dripping with oil & their usually awesome coleslaw was tasteless & missing the craisins which was disappointing. Just not a good experience this time around, I really hope this isn't going to be an ongoing problem & it wasn't the staffs problem so I'm thinking Management needs to step it up. I guess our next visit will determine if we ever go back. They also need to bring back the Sunday brunch!!! read more

My husband ordered the roast beef plate and it was over cooked, had no flavor and the sides were bland. I ordered the shrimp and lobster salad and it also tasted bland. I would love to say I love this spot but I've been in the harbor for years (we own a sailboat here) and the food is just awful. Our first year of being here we would come to happy hour multiple times a week (2019) and just come because of the view (awesome view) and tolerate the food. It has SO much potential. It just needs better quality food options. Or a real chef that creates a better menu. The food definitely feels like a franchise and even the most popular coconut ship just feels like something they bought at Costco and dropped in the deep fryer. I can't think of a time I've left and my stomach felt somewhat okay the next day. The interior could certainly use a facelift too, it's so outdated. It feels sterile, like a corporate office. The colors are depressing. The harbor needs a good restaurant! I would choose the Lighthouse over the broiler. It's on the other side from Joe's crab shack. The staff at Lighthouse have all worked their for 20 years, they're like a family and we recently discovered it. They're so happy and fun. It doesn't have the quality food we are looking for but it beats the energy and overall vibe of the people at the broiler. Fingers crossed the Brigantine moves into the Jolly Roger (that spot closed down during quarantine) because we would finally have somewhat of a decent restaurant here! If you're looking for really good food in Oceanside - visit Switchboard or Wrench & Rodent. It's a bummer the Broiler got the best view. Hopefully someone invests in this spot and makes it what it could be. read more

This is a great location with nice views of Oceanside Harbor. I am pretty sure that's what the "lure" of this place is. They do have a pretty good Happy Hour.....Hours 11 am to 6 pm. I have eaten a light lunch here before. This time we came for dinner with out of town guests who were looking for a place to eat with harbor views. We were a group of 7 and we were seated right away at a very large table inside. Our waitress was very nice. Some of us ordered cocktails. I ordered the Manhattan. I've had Manhattans in many restaurants but the one I had here was terrible! I asked if they would take it back and let me order a different drink. The waitress was very accommodating and I was given a new drink from their menu and it was much better. I was not charged for the Manhattan. Four in our party ordered the snapper. It was OK, nothing special, which was disappointing. The mixed vegetables consisted of a mix of zucchini and crookneck squash with French green beans. The green beans tasted like they came out of a bag of frozen. I hate frozen vegetables! My husband had ordered clam chowder with his snapper and was disappointed to only find a few clams in his cup. When you pay over $10 for a cup of clam chowder you expect more. We have been eating out a lot lately so we know restaurants have increased their prices but if the taste and quality aren't there it's hard not to feel ripped off. Kind of a throw-back restaurant that reminds me of seafood places near the coast. The decor hasn't neem updated in a few decades and neither has the food. The Clam Chowder was surprisingly bland but at least had a lot of clam in it. The shrimp cocktail was fresh but slightly overcooked.
