As a fan of purports and delicious coffee, I was rather disappointed with the quality. When we walked in it smelled like Starbucks, which is a smell I love but should have also tipped me off that they burn their beans. This taste is quite evident in their coffee. I completely regretted paying for a pourover when it only tasted like a burnt cup of coffee to me. They did have chocolate truffles in their case though that were delicious and helped to make up for my coffee disappointment. The baristas were rather nice and lacked the typical snobbery that accompanies employees of renown coffee shops. The atmosphere was not the cozy, sit for hours vibe that I'd like on a chilly day. One entire wall was covered in merchandise---which was actually somewhat fun to see but not what I wanted to look at the whole time I was there. Most of the tables are right up by the espresso bar, meaning you kind of always have someone standing by you. It left little opportunities for seclusion. Additionally, it wasn't very homework/laptop friendly in that they had a very limited amount of outlets available---most or all of which were kept along a wall with barstools and a skinny wall mounted table. I'd recommend it if you're coming and going and don't have a very refined palette for coffee. :) read more

A quaint little shop with a lot of interesting wares like teapots, filters, bamboo cutting boards and glassware offered. Personally, I don't think a good coffee shop needs all that, but maybe in that area it is appreciated. The staff was pretty great, I have to say. Highly accommodating and polite, and they mixed me up a delicious mocha. My main complaint, however, is that there is no comfortable seating. There are high tables with hard chairs, restricting a person who might want to linger over coffee(s) and treat(s) while indulging in some reading or writing. In my opinion, all coffee shops should be built to accommodate that sort of clientele, which is the most profitable kind. There *is* outdoor seating which I ultimately opted for -- it consisted of plastic chairs and rot iron tables. Not super comfortable but better than inside. Over all I'd recommend people at least try this shop to see if they like it. The coffee and staff are great --- so maybe that's enough. read more

AWESOME coffee!!! It was totally worth the long walk! when you order the macchiato, you get the real deal, expect to get re-awaken :) I loved my cappuccino as well, very smooth. I was tempted to try their chocolate as well, but when I took a close look at them in the display case... eh.. pretty sure, they've been there for a while, part of the surface was dry and sorta chipping off. Ohoris coffee, my addiction of choice. They are the best thing for coffee in this town. I am a big "Aged Indonesian" fan and love their Sumatra. With this economy, I had to cut back on much of my gleeful spending -- but not this, not my coffee. Ohoris, locally owned and masterfully roasted coffee gives me such pleasure. I like both shops and find the folks are mostly cool but generally kind. It's a nice place to hang out and that's why I agree with "Peter C." that they should be open on Sunday's too. read more

My boyfriend and I visited Santa Fe for a few days over winter break. We Stayed in a nice little Casita in town and visited here several times. I ordered a sm. Latte with butter (regular latte with a tsp of butter), and my boyfriend ordered md./lg. lattes and loved his. I recommend it, and also ask to have butter placed in your coffee. I read an article about butter in coffee and how the butter mixed with anti oxidants in coffee actually slows down the distribution of caffeine and also breaks down fat. I'm from TX and their local butter has a slightly different taste than the cattle here! enjoy! read more

I have always loved the coffee here. I'm usually an americano kind of girl but getting a triple shot vanilla bean latte is my new favorite thing when I drive to this side of town. I like that they make their syrup in house and it isn't too sweet. It really compliments the espresso. Only complaint? The staff never seems happy. I have never gotten a smile from anyone who works there. Good thing the lattes are great. read more

Understand the frustration but since they offer full service roasting - can take more time for prepping a bag of coffee vs drinks only. Coffee is outstanding- smooth and delicious. I love Ohori's. I lived in Santa Fe for three 1/2 years and went here religiously for my pound of Organic Sumatra. I even just had someone send me 3 pounds in NY because I miss it so much, it's really some of the best full bodied, dark and smooth coffee I've ever had. They know their stuff. Plus the St. Francis location has a really cute side shop with folkie art objects, knickknacks and books, its great. read more

I have been going to Ohori's since the '90s and have almost always had good coffee and good experiences. However, today I went in to return a travel mug that was leaking and Maggie, the person who waited on me was so rude from the get go! She was grinding her jaw like maybe she was on the wrong medication, but the manager wasn't interested in speaking with me when I asked to speak to her. I really felt horrible when I left. I am one of those people who cannot drink strong coffee as it upsets my stomach, and doesn't like weak coffee. Ohori's Coffee is strong and brilliantly deep flavored but doesn't upset my stomach! They are always so kind and cheerful, and always have a smile on their face. The environment inside the shop is one that I always feel comfortable and able to work in, and has great music playing all the time. I recommended my mom get one of their mochas (my favorite) and since then she has been absolutely addicted! Came back with a bag of their coffee beans too! Ohori's - Another Santa Fe idiot coffee house with ATTITUDE! It's no wonder I would rather be going across the street to Starbucks to get my coffee than to Ohori's. Not only does Ohori's coffee taste acidic and the barista's are poorly trained but they seem to have quite the attitude as well. Starbucks on the other hand serves up my coffee the way I want it with a great big smile on their face. Imagine great customer service... So you might be asking what could I have possibly ordered that Ohori's was so unwillingly to do? OMG so simple.. All I wanted was a medium size coffee in a large size cup to go so I would not burn myself. The idiot barista says they sell it by the cup and she could not give it to me that way without charging me for a large size cup of coffee. I said hey I just don't want to burn myself with hot coffee if it spills out a little.. She said nope can't do it, it's policy.. I said since when is it policy I came by yesterday and ordered it that way. Oh well she said, they did the wrong thing but it's still policy and I can't do that for you. Imagine a customer doesn't want to get burned by coffee but it's their policy. I suspect this idiot barista young college age woman probably got her policies wrong, but in the end, I just walked out. There are a lot of better places in town I can give my money too. Just across the street is a Starbucks.. Hey I think I will go there.. screw the local guy with the attitude!! Come to think of it, the last time I was in an Ohori's they had an attitude as well. I have not been back to Ohori's for over 10 years since then because of their attitude and thought I would give them a try to see if anything has changed, it clearly has not. Yesterday when I came in they did give me what I wanted but the taste was very acidic. I thought I would try it again today just to make sure it was consistently acidic or just a mistake. What I got was an acidic barista instead.... Imagine just like their coffee.. so nothing has changed i guess. As I said, the last time I walked out of there was about 10 years before yesterday. I asked them at that time, if they by any chance had WIFI which is the norm for coffee houses even back then. What I got was quite the attitude how they don't believe in WiFi. their customers should just come in and order their coffee and leave or read. They don't want any computers in there yada yada yada.. So lets see what their attitudes has cost them these past 10 years. I buy one cup "A Breve" a day for an average of $3.50 plus $.50 for a tip. Yearly that is $1,456 per year or $14,560 for 10 years. Can you imagine how much money these folks are chasing away by their attitudes? Oh well.. seems like an idiot business to me! Way to go Ohori's I am sure you are so Santa Fe Proud!!! read more

Customer service is non-existant. You would think they would help a regular customer who purchases 2 lbs of $20 Yemen Moka a week and two Capresso machines. Both of which are CRAP. I've made Cappuchinos for decades yet their USELESS managers (ha) will not GET that both machines are broken. I actually think they repackaged two lemons. Would love to talk to the owner and tell him how poorly they are perceived in Santa Fe. I Intend to bad-mouth them to every single person I know in Santa Fe and that is a considerable amount of people. read more

Don't know what I did either waiting for the girl to just reach into the case and grab my order as she continued to take other people's orders and do other chores instead of finishing up with mine? I have lived all over the country from the barista laden shores of Seattle to the chickory flavored plains of middle America to the need-it-or-die cup o'Joe of New York Deli's, Blue Mountain to hand picked minutes before, and this is one of the best local cups I have had across the board. They roast the beans themselves, and (mostly) they know how to pull a proper espresso. Worth a stop if you know your coffee. read more

When I lived in Santa Fe and worked for state government, this was the coffeehouse I frequented for that after-lunch pick-me-up. This is a great local coffeehouse with an excellent selection of coffees and teas. Incredible espresso and I have fond memories of some of their fruit-flavored black teas. At this location, at the intersection of St Francis and Cerillos, they also used to sell an extensive selection of whimsical yixing teapots. Next door, there was an excellent store selling various types of ethnic art from around the world (and I hope it is still there). If visiting Santa Fe, skip the Starbucks and go local. This is a great local coffeehouse just off one of the main strips leading to the Plaza. Enjoy. read more

I just started going to Ohoris when the downtown Java Joes closed. Ohoris is my new favorite place to get my morning jolt. The staff is always very pleasant. They have super fun music playing overhead while you wait (if there is a line). They don't mind if your dog waits in line with you and they have lots of cute things to look at while you wait for your latte. Cheap coffee too! read more

Coffee is super strong and very flavorful, but not burnt IMO. Very well made lattes. They are experts at roasting---talk to them about beans, spend the extra money over the grocery store beans and you won't be disappointed. I could do without the gift shop. I do agree with what other posters have said about the service. No one has been rude to me, but I've heard from multiple sources that the owner is a jerk and mistreats staff, so it must just be a toxic environment. read more

Not sure what that was all about, but I think since I've tasted excellent beans roasted by people who know what they're doing, I realize that Ohori's isn't that good. It's just really burnt tasting. Like burnt dirt. Not so good. Every now and then I'll get a cup that doesn't taste like a tire. Uncool coffee shop atmosphere doesn't help it's rating. read more

The coffee is pretty good. However, the staff needs some serious work on their people skills. I always try to greet people with a smile and ask how they are. No response from them. Just asked what I wanted to order and seemed impatient while they talked loudly with their co-workers. Understand I'm not looking for a long term relationship, just some coffee and some treatment that resembles basic human kindness. Not a good way to run a business. Are these guys from New York? I love this place for the quality of their coffee. I just wish they had nonfat milk. They only have 2% milk. On a slightly negative note, the employees give off a snobby attitude. Either give it back to them or get your coffee and leave. read more
