Everyone claims to be a cappuccino expert, and it seems all establishments serves them up a bit differently, but this joint gets my vote. Their foam is thick enough to provide a filter for the espresso, but fine enough to melt into your cup as time passes. Their espresso is never bitter and the cup is always perfect sipping temperature. I wouldn't rate them as the friendliest, but they're quick and quality (to be honest, I'm not really the friendliest either, so the fact they can get me in and out with a delicious cuppa is all I've noticed). read more

I can't speak on the coffee too much since I ordered a chai tea but I was a little disappointed by the atmosphere. There was nowhere to sit but these extremely uncomfortable stools. No WiFi and the spot was just somewhat...bland. It's more of a come and go type of place, which also serves a purpose. read more

These guys make the best mocha in town, by far. I know because I have tried them all and Ohori's is the best! They start with the best strongest espresso and then add a semi sweet chocolate and frothy milk. I ike their mocha the best because it is not sweet. It is chocolaty, but not syrupy. Always a line out the door for their delicious coffee. The mastery shows in the diverse selection of exquisitely roasted coffee beans and, for being a small business, their prices are reasonable especially when you consider how much more you get for a pound of coffee vs. the meek 12oz at other stores. The customer service is the icing on the cake, or rather, the delicious whipped to perfection foam on the latte --the staff always makes the wait worthwhile (kudos to them for putting up with the high-maintenance crazed Santa Feans and tourists). Love the traditional drinks and talk about artistry! Could have a better chocolate selection though. read more

Far and away the best coffee around. I'm a huge fan of their very dark, strong coffee. The flavors are always rich and bold, with a subtle smoky flavor. I get coffee there regularly, and I've never gotten a bad cup. I can't vouch for many of their specialty drinks, since I usually drink their coffee black (it's so good that I don't like any adulterants), but I have had their mocha and it's pretty much perfect. The coffee was pretty good but that's the only good thing I can say. We walked in to a pretentious barista who forced us to greet him. The seating was limited to a few high tops in the corner. To top it off, while we were drinking our coffee, the owners were hovering literally a foot away from us talking about what kind of chairs they want to put in. Talk about a place that's relying on its reputation of being the oldest game in town! There's some decent coffee gear in here--hello, brass pour-over pot from Hario!--but it's haphazardly organized and about as crammed as the streets of Sante Fe itself. Drink wise, my companion's iced latte had an unpleasant aftertaste (somewhere between poor quality milk and plastic) and my pour-over didn't arrive until at least 10 minutes later. Not because it was busy or because pour-overs take patience to make properly; because the barista tasked with making it got distracted by a friend of theirs and left it sitting, all sad like, until I asked for it. While it was already getting cold and she put less pride into it than Starbucks probably does across the street, she neglected to apologize or admit her mistake. Did I mention this place looks like it modeled its totally '90s interior design after the coffee shop in Friends if the coffee shop in Friends wasn't actually friendly or comfortable? Or that the "light roast" I ordered (a single origin from Mexico) still tasted over-roasted somehow? What a sad excuse for second-wave coffee. read more

The service was subpar. The drinks were not good. I tried their butter coffee and it was just not good. I make butter coffee at home daily and this stuff was just bad. I gave it another try a different day and got a latte. Maybe it's just me but I expect the appropriate amount of espresso shots in my drink for the size that I order. All of their drinks only come with one shot. I don't know how many shots are supposed to come in a large but it's more than one and when I asked I told them to give me whatever it usually comes with. My wife and I were on a roadtrip from San Francisco to Taos and stayed in Santa Fe for a few days. Although I loved the food in New Mexico, there was no good coffee to be had. Luckily, a friend came to the rescue and suggested Ohori's, telling us it was near a Wild Oats. The smell alone dragged us across the parking lot and into the most amazing coffee I've had. Period. San Francisco has some good coffee: Peet's, Philz, Four Barrel, but nothing, with the exception of DiBartolo's in Oakland, has come close to Ohori's. I still have Ohori's shipped to the Bay Area every once in a while because I cannot find a comparable coffee. Talk about a life saver. read more

Passing through town on a road trip and this was across the street from the gas station. Quiet and cozy on the inside. Clean, not hot or humid like some coffee places can be. Nice lighting on the sides where they display local artwork such as cards and coffee cups you can buy. I got a cup to use at work. Came for a 12oz vanilla latte, one shot. I believe it was $4.02. Wish I'd gotten a second shot to really taste the coffee flavor. But this was a nice smooth latte, not overly sweet, not that sugar-free fake syrup stuff. Since this is an organic, local looking shop, I wouldn't be surprised if the vanilla was real. Nice staff. I can't believe the comment in the tips complaining about no whipped cream; this place is all about the beans, not frou-frou cute toppings and names. read more

Ohori's coffee is by far the best in the City. The coffee is exceptionally good, having been locally roasted (at high altitude) and stored at low humidity. The staff are smart, and lively, and eager to help. I had to start drinking soy latte's a few years back, and they are the only coffee house in town that is able to make a soy latte that tastes like milk. Remarkable. PS: Sure, there's wifi! read more

Totally over hyped. Nice decor , terrible espresso. I can not comment on their house coffee ( which may have been good ) but their lattes left my wife and I totally unimpressed. The staff was nice enough but any form of greeting a customer was interpreted to "What would you like today, and Do you want a copy of your receipt." If you're looking for a cute overpriced bamboo cutting board Ohori's might just be the place for you, but if you're looking for good to great specialty coffee drinks I would look elsewhere. read more

I feel like I've gotta respond to a coupla these reviews. Peter C. is right that the flavor profiles of many high grade coffee beans are better suited to medium or light roasts. However, Ohori's, being run by eminently discerning coffee folk, declines to purchase such beans on the coffee market. They work closely with some of the very best importers and select for themselves only those beans which are perfectly suited to their dark-roasting style. The single-origins and blends that they sell are just perfect for roasting dark. Not just dark, either. Very dark. Abysmally dark. But again, the beans that they're roasting to this rich, smoky fullness are carefully chosen for their capacities to handle just such treatment. Sometimes, it's the beans that one expects to find roasted darkly. Their French and Italian blends are world-class. They do wondrous things to Sumatran and other Pacific-rim beans. But they also manage (and this, to my mind, is the most exciting part of their work) to find coffees that are surprising to find roasted so darkly. It is not often that one finds a Costa Rican or a Kenyan Arabica bean roasted to a darkness like the Ohori's Standard. However, know that they've done the leg work. They've done the comparative tasting with each year's new crop and each time, they're finding the beans that are ideal for the kind of dark roasting that they do. Confronting the most profound elements in the coffee bean is not for everyone. Some people prefer a bean that hasn't so much been roasted as it has been waved over a warm toasting tray. If this is you, you'd be quite a bit happier at a place like Whole Foods, which is obliged to cater to a staggering diversity of taste. However, Ohori's offers a niche product for a discerning and demanding customer base. What they don't do, and you've wrongly accused them of doing, is burn coffee. There is a slight difference, but a hugely important one, between the darkest roast at Ohori's (the Italian blend) and a burnt coffee. If you did purchase beans at Ohori's that were burnt, this was a mistake. The roasters who work there are human beings. They're incredibly knowledgeable and thorough human beings, but every so often, in extremely rare cases, a burnt batch of coffee makes its way to the store. Let them know! They will be glad to work with you should you ever actually be served or sold burnt coffee in either of their stores. But don't be confused. Don't go thinking you're going to pull a fast one on these folks and get away with returning perfectly dark-roasted coffee beans because you don't like the way dark-roasted coffee tastes. Don't make the mistake of thinking that a coffee that is expertly roasted to a perfect darkness that happens to be beyond the limits of your taste is a burnt coffee. There are good reasons, beyond the demands of the marketplace, that Ohori's does what it does in the place that it does it. Ask somebody who works there about the advantages of brewing dark-roasted coffee at extremely high elevations like the ones that Santa Fe enjoys. But don't denounce a place that is doing exactly what it sets out to do in a remarkably consistent manner because of the fact that what it does happens to be at odds with your personal preferences when it comes to drinking coffee. As for JessEca, I . . .I don't know quite what to say. You have made the same kind of error that Peter made, but yours is a much more egregious instance of it. You rate a place with one star because of the hours they keep? What utter nonsense. Ohori's is open for damn near the whole day, 6 days a week, all year long. Being closed on Sundays may, as you say, prevent them from delivering to you what you need when you needed it, but if you've not been back since, you've effectively cheated yourself out of the very best coffee in the area. Which is sad. For you. Not for Ohori's, they're doing great. They're there all day, most days, serving up delicious coffee to people who make informed choices about where they shop. So yeah, you are quite completely wrong in thinking that Sunday morning would be an ideal time for them to reach their target market. In fact, it is the perfect time to be closed in the interest of avoiding the business of people who live their lives guided only by irrational prejudice and blinding bias. Enough said? Instead of using Yelp as a forum for the venting of personal preference at the expense of substantive reviews, let's do some work towards developing it as a tool whereby useful information can be exchanged among thoughtful consumers. A review of Ohori's that notes that it sells freshly roasted, darkly roasted, and extremely high-quality Arabica coffee beans and that it serves cups and shots of the same, brewed strong and fresh throughout the day, does this. Reviews that amount to nothing more than saying "I don't like dark roasted coffee" or "I don't like businesses that are closed on Sundays" do not. read more

Peter C is spot on. I just got home with a pound of Organic Mexican coffee beans. They are over roasted and oozing oil. I've had this coffee in LA, San Francisco, Berkeley, Portland OR, Seattle, New York, Boston, and Washington, D.C.--nowhere did the roasted beans look or taste as awful as these. Mexican coffee is light, delicate and usually has a slight chocolate aftertaste. Ohori's version is definitely over-roasted and, like so many other things in Santa Fe, is unsubtle, overpowering and quite second-rate. read more

Normally, I am not the type of person to bother writing a review. i am the kind of person that tips bad waiters and understands how hard being at work can be, having worked in the service industry all my life. However, today i was compelled to come all the way home and sit down to write a review of Ohoris Coffee. I grew up in Santa Fe, I have been drinking this coffee for the entirety of my caffeinated existence. i used to love their coffee, but over the years it has just gotten more and more burnt, over the last few months it has begun to just plain suck balls. Yet, I continue to go there all the time out of some Pavlovian urge, only to be repeatedly disappointed. This alone would not make me say anything negative, but, combine that with it taking 15 minutes to get a mediocre cup of coffee (Cerillios location), hearing my opinion about the coffee called uneducated by a snarky new roaster, And the fact that Ohoris coffee does NOT pay their staff living wage, was enough to really froth my fervor. I KNOW this coffee, having consumed what is most likely unhealthy amount of it, and it has changed for the BAD. The staff at Ohori's is for the most part wonderful, but I am sad to see old faces going away so quickly and the general timbre change to the unhappy and arduous. As I look through all of the gratuitous kitsch in the coffee shop, i see fair trade and fair wage stickers, on chocolate and coffee and all sorts of stuff, yet today I overheard that the employees are getting less than the living wage of $10.27 an hour. i can not, in good conscience pay $20 a pound for coffee from a place that wont pay their employees what they are most certainly worth. Lets Quell our conditioned responses and try a different coffee place. read more
