You can count on eating a delicious meal every time you come here. This place is consistent. The veggie plate never disappoints. We enjoyed collard greens, sweet potatoes, Mac n cheese,lady peas, and mashed potatoes. Both sweet and I sweet tea are perfectly seeped. Country fried steak is piping hot and worth the calorie splurge and plenty to share with the veggie plate companions. Parking is easy, service is excellent, noise level is fine, and tiny tootsie rolls add for a great experience. I do wish they would update the servers uniforms to something more modern and less stereotypical of what a diner employee should wear. read more

OK Cafe is more than Ok. Channeling that 50's vibe and slinging some great comfort breakfast foods. They also try their best to steer you towards wheat grass or chia seeds, but I went comfort. A bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich on sourdough toast with their homefries. They forgot the bacon, but quickly brought me a side (they charged me for it). The sandwich was good, the bread got a little too soggy, but the egg was perfectly cooked. The bacon was crisp, just the way I like it. The star were the homefries. Great crisp on the outside and well seasoned, a little hot sauce and then a slide through the egg yolk and man. Nice friendly atmosphere with plenty of cool things to look at. This is true southern cooking. Flavorful and plenty of comfort food. The atmosphere is reminiscent of a southern cafe from the 50's with a twist of Disney. The chili is the best I've had in Georgia! Beans and meat full of flavor..add a dash of hot pepper vinegar to give it that extra zing. The burgers are perfectly cooked (medium thank you very much) and the veggie sides are amazing...get the squash casserole with cornbread. Then, you get tootsie rolls with your check! Fun place. A real classic diner feel. We enjoyed the breakfast. It seemed like half the people knew the staff or each other. The wait staff got a little confused about who's table we were so they were a little slow with refills. We were not in a hurry, so that was OK. It was literally just OK. It's really like an IHOP esp with their age of their patrons. The restaurant itself is kind of dated so they have to maintain it well, which I felt they did. Their workers are all friendly and pretty fast. I feel they're overstaffed but maybe it gets busy at the right times. But b/c it's overstaffed the service is quick. I got an omelette, which was very similar to one at IHOP and my friend got a burger. Their fries were ace. Hot and crispy. Soggy fries are a sin. The prices were a little high IMO. My family gets takeout from OK when I come visit, but my dad and decided to eat in one night. First of all, you have to wait in line to be seated. More than likely, you'll run into someone you know while you're waiting. (My dad did and I swear I saw people I may gone to high school with.) Anyway, there's all sorts of great stuff on the menu: sandwiches, burgers, but it's mostly known as a meat and three place. Daddy and I decided to get the vegetable plate, especially since fried green tomatoes was a special. Everything is fresh, plentiful and tastes divine. Service is outstanding. This cafe never disappoints! My favorite place to stop for a bite when I'm passing through Atlanta (conveniently located off I-75, exit 255). Very low-key and great southern hospitality. Always busy, but worth the wait (usually less than 15 minutes). The Turkey & Avocado is my favorite. The Rocket Burger is tasty, too (according to my brother). A blustery Sunday eve on the cusp of another year (according to whatever arbitrary calendar I found myself following after my faith in the Mayans had been recently shattered), I was homeward bound but the sounds from my belly demanded I stop. As Josh Homme wailed over my stereo - speakers pushed to limit - and my fevered brain ticked through a list of known nearby restaurants while my hands attempted against the steering wheel (occasionally succeeding) to keep time with Josh Freese's drumming, there appeared around the bend one of the largest churches I've ever seen, glowing in spotlight, beckoning me to exit the Interstate. "OK, Jesus," I thought. "OK." I remembered then that OK Cafe lay ahead, and knowing nothing of the place, I was under the impression that it was a diner and I might be able to grab a decent brinner or burger, not to mention learn whether Scout did eventually fulfill her destiny of working there. As I approached the door, I noted the rubicund neon sign - "Wait Time 5 SHORT minutes" - and felt more at ease, having also earlier noticed the large number of parked vehicles circling the building. Those initial worries resumed upon entering and noticing more than two dozen people seated along the wall. I walked to the counter where a hostess had called a family's name from the list and I stood there. A minute later, she gave me a smile as she returned and called another name from the roster. This group didn't appear so she moved on to the next ("Dufresne - Search party of four"). She left again to seat that family. I waited. A man came by and read the list for the next name and as we made eye contact I said, "Just one," and he replied, "OK," but then called the next name and took another group to be seated. I recalled the sign out front - "5 SHORT minutes." As much time had nearly elapsed already, and my name was not even on the list yet. I glanced at it and saw more than ten names remained to be struck through. I continued to wait. The young woman at the nearby register acknowledged my presence and asked whether I was eating in, and when I affirmed she said, "Write your name on the list." Really? I decided to keep this in mind, so as not to wait so patiently after being seated without asking my waitress whether I would also be responsible for cooking my own meal. I took a seat near the door, where arctic gusts chilled me with each guest's entry. An elderly woman beside me asked whether I'd been there before, and then explained to me that she and her husband had come in search of breakfast but were told that breakfast was not served all day at OK. They left a moment later to continue their waffle walkabout. After another 15 minutes my name was called and I explored the restaurant's interior on the way to my table. Blandly kitschy. Not really a diner at all, despite outward appearances; in fact there are only about 4-5 counter seats near the entrance. It was packed with more people than I've ever seen in a restaurant at 8 on a Sunday night, and most were families. Lighting is abundant but dim. I was led to my spot, beneath the dead eyes of a papier maché hound, and my waitress arrived shortly thereafter. She stood beside me, and lights' reflection from my table formed eerie shadows against her face, as though she were telling ghost stories with the aid of a flashlight. She spoke as though on pain pills, and as with many waitresses of her age cohort, she couldn't keep her hands off of me, to the extent that it almost became uncomfortable. Almost. She talked me out of the burger and steered me toward the blue-plate specials - a better value (in theory). I opted for the roast turkey. It arrived in about 10 minutes, and I was shocked by its diminutive portion of turkey. I had ordered dark meat, and in total may have received the equivalent of a thigh. I cried a little. Flavor, however, was great. The turkey was exquisitely roasted, and the stuffing an interestingly tasty recipe more similar to a seafood imperial (without the seafood). The cornbread muffin was OK, but I'd prefer no whole corn kernels in it. The sweet potato was perfectly baked and served with pecans and brown sugar. A red concoction of fruit and pecans (cranberry sauce?) accompanied in a plastic cup and also wasn't bad. An old woman led past me with her family to their table suddenly pointed at me and yelled, "SWEET POTATO!" without stopping. Bizarre. The mac & cheese is OUTSTANDING. I asked for a slice of lemon coconut cake for dessert; totally let down by this offering. Dry and dense, and more like lemon pound cake with a coconut & cream cheese frosting. I did not order it a la mode. You should. With my check - the words "To live is to serve, to serve is to live" printed on it (Spartacus?) - I received a Tootsie Roll. The meal hadn't made me feel a "WHOOP" coming on, but it was great, though not a good value at $24. The portion was so tiny that I didn't have enough left for another full meal. This review has nothing to do with the food or service. Both were very good on my visit to the restaurant this morning. My problem with OK Cafe is the incredibly offensive Rebel Flag displayed prominently in the restaurant. I'm flabergasted that management feels compelled to hang the Stars and Bars on the wall. I will not be returning to OK until it's removed, if ever. I encourage other people who feel the same to speak out. It's insensitive, arrogant and completely unnecessary to have to look up and see such a reprehensible symbol of oppression and bigotry. I'm a white guy who grew up in Georgia and it makes me sick. I can't imagine how it makes OK's African American employees and patrons feel. Come on, OK Cafe, you can do better. read more

The line can be a bit worrying, but the place is operated efficiently enough that a 15 minute wait time to get seated menas 15 minutes, and in most cases, less. This place has been operating for as long as my mind can remember, and until we visited recently, it was legit 22+ years that I can recall ever going there. For starters, the place has a kind of wood cabin kind of vibe going for it. It definitely has a home kinda feel, which is great because it's definitely a relaxing atmosphere that you can just kind of slide back in your booth, and get comfy. The staff is damn amazing. This place stays busy all the time, but they have a lot of employees, and you'll never feel like they forgot about you, because they definitely know you're there, and they want to please. The food is fantastic. Their menu has a giant variety, and the only issue you'll face is looking at other plays going by, and having food envy. I'll order something delicious, and immediately regret when I see some massive plate going by that makes me jealous. Portion sizes are large. Like, loosen your belt large. No matter what you get, you're well fed. I can't find anything to complain about this place. I'm sure they have a flaw somewhere, but I haven't found it yet. Don't be alarmed by the rebel flag they have by the money tree. It may be offensive to some, but they do have a sign explaining why it's there and what it stands for with the location. read more

I did not have a good experience at OK Cafe. I will say that I probably ordered the wrong thing, but still I am not inclined to go back. I ordered the turkey BLT sandwich and the bread was stale. The cucumber salad that I subbed for fries had way too much vinegar on it and I could not eat it. I did try my partner's chicken pot pie and that was very good. Everyone who ordered a southern type platter seemed much more satisfied. I tried to go a healthier route and that was a mistake. They have diner style southern food, so if you go here definitely get a plate with vegetable sides. I will give them points for having Coke Zero as a fountain drink option. There is typically a line, especially on the weekends, but it goes pretty fast. The service is quick and good. read more

This restaurant is located just off I 75 on Paces Ferry Rd. in front of the Publix shopping center. It is easy to spot by the Giant neon OK on their roof. I have to say that I have fallen in love with this place over the years and we try to stop every time we are passing through the Atlanta area. It is a southern comfort food restaurant complete with waitstaff in 50's style uniforms, red pleather covered booths and checker board tile floors. The first thing you notice as you approach the door is a neon sign that tells you the approximate wait time. Inside you will find a beehive of activity at any time of the day. There are several different dining areas and a lunch counter type setup with the short order cooks working the grills just on the other side. The decor is definitely a bit odd, but fun. There is a huge "money tree" in the middle of the main dining room. Service has always been good and the servers are friendly and always willing to help you make a choice. My favorites on the menu are the blue plate specials. They change with each visit, but are basically a meat plus 2 sides. The meatloaf is probably my favorite with the triple mac and cheese and black eyed peas. They all come with cornbread. The deserts and shakes are good too. They are open for breakfast lunch and diner. They also offer "Take Away" which is many of the same items you find on the regular menu on a hot bar. You take a box and add whatever you want, when you are done, they weigh it and charge you based on the weight. What a great concept!!! It is a fun weigh (pun intended) to try a little bit of everything on the menu. You may have to wait a bit but it is worth it and the line moves quick. I had been meaning to check out OK Cafe since one of my co-workers had told me about their great Southern comfort food a few months ago. However, I never made it a point to drive that direction specifically to eat there. So you can imagine my excitement when my supervisor told me an another co-worker that she'd treat us to lunch at OK Cafe! The three of us arrived around 1 pm on a Monday afternoon. The restaurant was bustling, but we were still seated immediately. We were seated close to the take-out area, called the "OK Take-Away" store, which apparently is separate from the restaurant so you can't order food from there to dine in. The server told me this when I had asked if they had fried chicken available for dine-in, and she said they only have it at the "Take-Away" store. Boo. After glancing at the menu, I quickly decided to get the Country Fried Steak. My co-worker, who has been to OK Cafe many times, told me that it's really good. The Country Fried Steak is one of their "Blue Plate Specials," which are served with "your choice of two vegetables and corn muffin." I chose the Triple Cheese Macaroni and Mashed Potatoes. Our server also asked me whether I wanted the white or brown gravy with my mashed potatoes, pointing out the fact that the Country Fried Steak is topped with white gravy. I chose the brown gravy to keep it interesting. =) Although the fountain drinks are pricey at $2.99 each, I was really happy to learn that they had Coke Zero! So of course, I had to order it. We didn't have to wait very long at all for our food to be served! * Country Fried Steak ($12.99) - WOW. This was truly delicious. I haven't had a whole lot of Southern food in my life, so I don't have much to compare it to, but the steak was tender, flavorful, and fried just right. I really liked the white gravy on it, too. The Triple Cheese Macaroni was AMAZING as well. It was richly cheesy and seasoned nicely. I would say that it's a *little* saltier than I'm used to. However, I had my mashed potatoes and corn muffin, which were both pretty good, to balance it out. I was very, very happy with my large meal. It was so much food that I only ate about half of it and took the rest to go. (Yay for the tasty leftovers!) Overall, OK Cafe gets 4.5 stars for their delicious Country Fried Steak and fast and friendly service! Our server was super polite and smiley, and she asked if we wanted our drinks to-go before we had the chance to ask. The only reason why I'm not giving them 5 stars now is because I want to go back and try their fried chicken and maybe some other Southern comfort foods. So glad that the Ok Cafe is back in business after a fire in 2014 put them on the sidelines. Thankfully, aside from updates (new paint, some new decor) they are back with most of the staff in tact -- along with the menu of tried and true dishes and specials. My prior visits to Ok Cafe have been for breakfast and lunch. I went for dinner with a group friends and can say enthusiastically that I'm a fan. This is Atlanta's living room, dining and kitchen. All you need to do is show up, put your name on the list and wait until you are shown to your table. From there the capable staff takes over making you feel like you are at home. For dinner, they a series of options - think meat and two sides plus a blue plate special. Tuesday night, the special was a fried trout (they are known for this dish). Two words: order it. The side options are a mix of known southern diner options plus some options that make this a special place (tabouli (yes, please)). You can't go wrong with your order. So, as someone who doesn't care they left things pretty much the same in terms of decor and design, I guess that means I should counter those over-reactions with an extra star or so. For those familiar with OK Cafe before the fire: I think they've got a couple more months before their food is fully back up to snuff. The service and wait continue to be a bit slow, but not painful. I've been living in Atlanta for almost 7 years now and I am surprised that I have never been here! Since I was in the area and starving, I decided to finally check this place out. My first impression upon walking through the doors is that it was a bit themey but after trying the food, I am in love! Since it was our first time there, i was open to trying as much food as possible. We started off with the fried pickles and fried cheese grits...both were awesome! I ordered the Avocado, Tomato and Sprouts Omelet and David ordered the Ham and Cheese Omelet. The portions were huge and we were only able to eat half of what we ordered! Oh, one more thing...the sweet tea was GOOD! Not just good, but rot your teeth good! The customer service is fantastic and everyone was so nice! I truly appreciate that they use a lot of organic produce and that everything is made fresh daily. I'll definitely have to check out their desserts next time as well as grab some food to go in their OK Take-Out area. I will be back soon although I'll have to up my gym workouts! read more
