I thought Flushing, NY would have more Taiwanese establishments, but it's especially even more rare find one for breakfast! I enjoyed the breakfast, but there wasn't one dished that I thought was the stand out! They were all just ok or slightly above average. I did enjoy the texture of their dan bing (egg rolls), but they were surprisingly plain with the added fixtures. The same with the fan tuan (rice rolls), but they were also a little salty. The other dishes like oyster pancake was good, but i feel like its hard to mess any oyster pancake up. If I had to pick the one that was the best-made tasting out of all the dishes, it would probably be the bawan. Until there is more Taiwanese breakfast establishments, I guess beggars can't be choosers... read more

OK Ryan serves up cheap, hearty Taiwanese fare. It's a family favorite if we're in the area but man the parking situation really takes away from the experience. It's located on a busy stretch of College Pt Bvld and there's essentially two parking spaces available in front of the restaurant. A parking pass for 45 min is required for the coveted spaces and if you park anywhere else besides the street, you risk getting your car towed. Luckily, public parking at the nearby Skyview Mall is available for a rate. Some favorite dishes include salt and pepper pork and three cup chicken, both of which are generously portioned and so deliciously crispy. Great Taiwanese dishes here. Be warned that since customers do come here for the Taiwanese food the smell of another table's order of stinking tofu will fill the place with that smell. I personally don't like the smell but you do grow used to it.... The three cup chicken is good. read more

"OK Ryan!!!" Love the name! I would love to have been there as they brainstormed a name for this restaurant. I envisioned someone named Ryan was part of that group and told "OK Ryan" several times and the name stuck! Fellow Yelper Linny. F arranged for a UYE event here since you can never have enough stinky tofu in your life! The restaurant is small and located in a small strip mall off College point Blvd. Limited on site parking and meter street parking available. Since this part of college point is heavily laden with traffic with limited options for you to maneuver your vehicle. I suggest you park at the SkyView mall parking lot, free parking for 3 hours and you're only a 5 minute walk away. After dinner you can walk off a few pounds to get your car and also do a little shopping to boot! I must say the service staff here are wonderful and they are bilingual so ordering in English is not a problem. Since we all came here for the stinky tofu my verdict is two thumbs up for the stink! We ordered traditional deep fried and sautéed smaller cubed spiced wet style. A stink factor "8" out of a possible "10" for max stinkiness. You need to be really a fan to appreciate stinky tofu because describing taste is all well,subjective, but I am a fan. The beef noodle soup was good as the brisket was not too tough or chewy, but I felt the soup could have been a little more heartier in spices. The double golden fried rice was delicious as was the salt and pepper fried pork chops, fried up nice and crispy and not drowned in oil. I also thought the shredded pork with bamboo shoots were stellar, the sauce on the pork was savory and quite delicious. Chun suggested we order the smoked duck. The duck was delicious and had a great deal of smoke infused into the meat, a little on the fatty side, but overall a solid dish. The traditional 3 cups chicken was OK, since there was a lot of small bones in the clay pot and pieces of chicken were cut up too small. All the other dishes from the egg and shrimp and Taiwanese pork belly rice was ok. A great night out to "break bread" with old and new yelpers, enjoying each others company. Things are looking up in the barren wasteland we call College Point Blvd. One of the lesser known standouts is OK Ryan, an easy to miss Taiwanese spot that cranks out classic dishes better than most of the competition, all while sporting an (English) name that very few understand (#1). It is a sleepy joint; I've never seen it busy despite coming at random times from afternoon to dinner, and yet they've still managed to stay on point. There are a handful of large round tables for big groups and a few window booths to round out a seating capacity of 30 peeps or so. The bathrooms are clean and the staff is usually on point with everything. The latter is trilingual (Mandarin, Cantonese, English) and very hip to social media (Facebook Likes and Yelp Check-ins will merit a discount / free dish of some sort). The menu is not as Taiwanese concentrated as some dedicated restaurants, with some Canto influence (such as 核桃虾 [honey walnut shrimp], 炸子雞 [crispy chicken], 蝦仁炒蛋 [scrambled egg with shrimp], etc.) but one should find plenty to choose from here. They have one of my favorite set dinner deals, for $22: 3 dishes, 1 soup, and two bowls of rice. (#2) Some of the dishes I really like: 牛肉面 beef noodle soup, 水煮魚 hot sauce fish fillet, 香煸臭豆腐 sauteed stinky tofu, 三杯雞 three cup chicken, 貢丸 pork balls, 沙茶牛肉 shacha beef. Some dishes that could be better: 臭豆腐 regular stinky tofu (not stinky enough), 滷肉飯 minced pork over rice (lots of rice, not enough sauce), 排骨飯 pork chop over rice (dry pork chop), 牛肉捲餅 scallion beef roll. The prices are right, the service is sweet, and I've still got more to try. What's more is they also take credit card and have dedicated parking (3 whole spaces, imagine that!). I've heard incredible things about their weekend Taiwanese breakfast, which I can't wait to sample. Ryan Gosling, Ryan's Hope, Nolan Ryan...) A recent UYE hosted by Linny F. took us into the world of Taiwanese cooking at OK Ryan. Stinky Tofu done 2 ways? I'll try anything once, maybe twice. It didn't really come out stinky when the dishes hit the table. It didn't really hit me until I was chewing and swallowing. The smell/taste doesn't come through the front door of your nostrils, but rather hits you from the back of the throat through your nasal cavities. Now I know what I won't be ordering ever again. Linny, I am officially booting myself out of Team Stinky. Though this is one of their signatures, they have a range of great dishes to choose from. The beef stew noodle soup is hearty and tasty. The smoked duck is definitely worth getting again. The salt & pepper pork chops was another winner, so much so that we had to order a second plate of it! For lunch they have a bunch of special deals to choose from. For $22.99, you can get 3 meat/fish/vegetable combo dishes plus soup & rice. If you have a larger party, just add different dishes for an additional $7.75 or order from the regular menu. I'm not sure if it's just on the weekend or available during the week also, but they have a buffet where you can choose 3 from 6 choices on a plate with rice & soup, which I'm going to try next time. This restaurant is more than OK, it's great! We were just shopping on College Point Blvd ( the edge of the Flushing Chinatown) and came across this small place. They advertised a $18-fixed price family Special. We grabbed a menu and make a mental note to come back. So after a week we're back for dinner. The Family Special includes soup, 3 entrees, and up to three bowls of rice. Our entrees were: 1 - crispy chicken w. spicy sauce- large portion of dark meat chicken battered and fried with a spicy sweet sauce. Delicious and love the sauce. 4/5 2 - House Style Tofu- fried tofu with a blend of mix veggies. Tasty with a touch of gravy. 4/5 3 - House Special Pork Spare Rib- delicious tangy savory bit size spare ribs with a sprinkle of sesame seed. 5/5 Note: They don't add MSG to their cooking. There are a couple of parking spaces at the front of the store. The staff is friendly and helpful. They have home-made tofu. We will definitely come back to sample the whole menu. read more

The price is kind of expensive here, like traditional braised pork is actually for the poor, the poor here will not be able to afford this daily. Yum! Taiwanese food is a nice (but small) change of pace from many other restaurants in Flushing. The cabbage dish is great, compared to the Scezhuan preparation it is less chili and instead has a nice seafood flavor from the dried shrimp that they add. The fried shrimp dish was amazing - such good flavor and fried with a perfect amount of batter. Wasn't too impressed with the braised pork belly with bamboo, I thought the bamboo flavor was a little too strong. Also ordered a chicken meatloaf like dish - I was pleasantly surprised. Really enjoyed their food due to close proximity to where I work but prices keep increasing. I understand the cost of supplies has been getting higher due to inflation, but now they're cutting items from their menu. They used to have their rice dishes even past the lunch hour they just cost more than the lunch price and they even had it on weekends. I just tried to order a rice dish but they said they don't make that on the weekend anymore. Plus regardless of the time the rice dish isn't any bigger than it is for lunch. I can't believe there is actually a bad review here from this Howard guy. I have eaten here several times and I did not grow up eating lead paint chips. The staff is nice and speak Cantonese, Mandarin and English. There is a family special menu which is 3 dishes with rice and soup. Probably not enough to fill a family of 3, you would need to order an additional dish, but it is definitely enough for 2 people. What I do like about this place is that is actually has the best stinky tofu in the flushing area. Yes believe me try it. If you can find better please do tell. I would advise people against getting drinks here. They are not very good, but if you want something other than tea go ahead. I do enjoy this place, but there is not parking which sucks. read more

Came here for early Mother's Day dinner. Only one other table at around 6pm on Friday night but pretty full by the time we left at 7:15. We got 5 dishes for 5 adults and it was just enough. We got the Taiwanese rice noodle, black pepper beef on the sizzling plate, egg tofu seafood casserole, the house egg tofu in clay pot, 3cup chicken and a beef ho fun. Dishes don't come with rice so you have to pay for it. The dishes we got (aside from the noodles) all had yummy sauce. Wish they provide complimentary rice with each dish we get but oh well. Didn't pay for the meal so don't know the total but avg price per dish is $12-15 and $10 for noodles. The egg tofu is super soft and silky and eggy. This review is only for their breakfast. They serve breakfast from 8am-11am daily. Flushing doesn't do Taiwanese breakfast all that well, so I was hoping this would be the place to change that, but it ended up being just okay. I started with a hot peanut rice drink with soy milk (I love each individually, but have never seen a 50/50 mix offered before). It was pretty good, with the soy milk lightening up the viscosity of the peanut rice drink. I didn't really appreciate the taste of soy milk. I got a clay oven roll, plain, because I'm not a fan of crullers and I like dipping it into my soy milk. This clay oven roll was a little different than I'm used to. It had a lot of sesame seeds and had a nice crispy and flaky exterior, but was very thin and was essentially flaky all the way through. I like clay oven rolls that have some substance to them and have a nice soft inside with flaky outside. Dipped in the peanut rice and soy milk combo helped make it less dry. They had run out of taro pastries, so I ended up with a sweet clay oven roll, which tasted a lot like a Taiwanese sun cake. It was quite good and probably the best thing I had here. My last item was an egg cake, which was a big disappointment. First, it was tiny for the $3.50 they charge. There was some sauce on it that did not belong on it at all and completely overpowered the flavor of the egg itself. I didn't get that nice "al dente" texture from the egg and the tortilla of a well-made egg crepe. Overall, it was an okay breakfast, although not worthy of driving into Flushing to have. read more

My Taiwanese friends fell head-over-toes about the catered food, and wrapped all the leftover food to go. Flushing is a town flushing (^.^) with good, authentic restaurants, making it virtually impossible to pick a single one to dine in. My brother-in-law is Taiwanese and authentic Taiwanese cuisines in Philly is limited so I decided to take him to Flushing, New York. We got there kind of late and we couldn't really walk around because of my brother's legs. That left us with only a few spots in Flushing with accessible parking. We decided on OK Ryan based on reviews. Before even sitting down, it's important that you get a parking slip from the store and place it in your windshield so your car does not get towed. Parking aside, the restaurant itself was spacious, nothing spectacular in terms of designs but it was clean and roomy. The menu was pretty cool as they had pictures of everything next to the descriptions. Our waitress was friendly and sweet. We ordered stinky tofu, special tofu with meat on a sizzling plate, fried rice and thin noodles with intestines. The stinky tofu was not for everyone, it's a Taiwanese specialty, the fermented tofu smelled nasty but tasted super creamy and clean. The sauce that came with the tofu was sweet and flavorful, contrasting the crunchy, sour pickled cabbage that was served with the tofu. The thin noodle soup with intestines was very delicious, there was no residue of intestines smell at all. The fried rice was really good, we opted not to have raisins in our rice, which I thought would've been strange. The tofu with meat on the sizzling plate was my favorite. The tofu was crunchy and soft inside with a really nice sauce on top. Overall, this was a solid spot with authentic food. We came around 11:30am. There was only 2-3 tables but the staff were very busy preparing for lunch take out orders so it took about 10min for someone to come take our orders and another 5 minutes to bring tea after we had asked several times. The tofu dish came out before the tea arrived. We came for stinky tofu but it wasn't stinky enough. Half of the tofu were hot and half were warm. They probably put some left over from breakfast on the plate since we came just after their breakfast menu was over. It was disappointing when we are expecting to bite into something hot and it was warm instead. We also ordered the spicy assorted mini hot pot. It looks nothing like the picture. The picture has clams in it but the actual dish doesn't have any clams. It cost $20+, overly priced for the portion. The portion is exactly what it's name says: mini---it has some noodles, some cabbage, few pieces of tofu, 4 pieces of beef, 2 pieces of frozen fish, 4 pieces of fish ball, 3 pieces of shrimp, and a few small thin pieces of pork intestine. This is a local place with affordable food. We went there for breakfast today. The soy milk was thick and creamy. I particularly like the salty soy milk. The hint of chilly oil mixed with the crunchy fried curler, picked vegetables and vinegar is perfect for a cold day. There stinky tofu was fairly mild. The panda rice was very fresh as the fried curler remains crunchy but I was not a fan of the black rice. My only complaint is that the service was slow. But all and all the food was good. My wife and I love to try new foods. When a Taiwanese friend suggested we go out for dinner here, we were very excited. The restaurant is on college point Blvd and has some parking in front which is great. We let our friends order for us. We started with fried stinky tofu. It wasn't really so stinky. Great dipping sauce and some kimchi to eat with. Delicious. We ordered salt and pepper pork chop (wow!), three cup chicken (very flavorful with dark meat pieces, slices of ginger and a nice brown sauce), string beans with tofu (crisp and fresh), hot pot of fresh tofu, pumpkin and vegetables (yum) and a fish dish (can't remember which one but it was delicious! Dessert was taro in sugar. You grab a piece with the adorable little fork and dip it in ice water. The water cools off the taro and hardens the sugar. It was great. The staff speaks very good English so we would be comfortable going back without our friends and asking questions. We might just have to do that. read more

We found this restaurant on Yelp because we were looking for something a short walk from the Queens Museum (0.7 of a mile). It's in a strip mall of cabinet shops, plumbing supply places, etc. But once you step inside, you are in a homey restaurant serving Taiwanese food. We were quickly given a table and menus. Because Stinky Tofu is supposed to be a Taiwanese specialty, and the Chinese teens next to us pointed it out to us, we tried it, but it was not our thing. Very homie taste, we get breakfast from there before cause it's close by and they weren't bad. Except one time they gyp my husband by giving him 10 less change. We got the beef noodle soup and 3 cup chicken, my husband said the soup is not tasty enough. They use thick noodle that's similar to udon, which I like but the veggies was kinda bitter. I had passed by this place numerous times but wasn't really drawn by the exterior. A friend took me here after movie night and oh man, I'm happy this place doesn't have an amazing exterior because I don't plan on sharing this place with other people. I'm usually really picky when it comes to Taiwanese food since I go back to Taiwan every few years and just pig out. This place has AMAZING braised pork belly over rice 滷肉飯, garlic chives with pork 蒼蠅頭, sautéed spicy green peppers with beef 小辣椒牛and BBQ pork short ribs. The food here is to die for!!!!!
