I like to go to this place every now and then. The service is always good, and lively inside. But recently I wanted to try something different than my usual milk teas. I ordered the oreo milk tea, and im not sure if the ingredients were intentionally made that way, but the "oreo bits" was just pure sugar. Like a mouthful of cotton candy, and something about it tasted off.. I had a really bad stomach ache not long after that led me to the restroom. Oko Café is hands down my favorite tea spot in Gardena! A go-to place for me and my boyfriend, holds so many fond memories. Their milk teas are sooo sweet and flavorful. If you don't like too sugary drinks I'd recommend asking for a lower sugar level (75% or 50% sugar). A lot of fun interesting flavors like Lavender and White Chocolate for milk teas are very unique and yummy! A lot of other interesting drinks aside from milk tea are available too. Their Mojitos for example, which are also very good! Prices are very affordable and reasonable! Store has a very fun "cartoony" style with decorations being switched out periodically. Unfortunately no indoor seating in the time being due to COVID-19, but they do have outdoor seating! 100% recommend this tea shop! A must try. read more

I love Oko Café! They're easily in my top three Boba spots. I may be biased since I've been going there since it opened. A lot has changed as far as the decor and set up but still cute and clean. The boba is always soft and chewy like it's supposed to. Doesn't taste gritty like some places do. Such a cute place located near Tokyo Central! This place reminds me of a cartoon cafe in Seoul so it was a nice vibe. I got their ube ice cream (5/5) and their black okinawa organic milk tea (4/5). Whatever your heart desires, diabetes-inducing drink-wise, you will find here. From Sakura honey boba (what even?) to matcha lattes, Oko Cafe is not for the indecisive. It stays open fairly late, till midnight I believe, for those late night cravings. I've found myself here twice now, both times after 11pm. Unfortunately, they stop serving food after 11pm, which means twice now I have had my hopes destroyed, staring at the taiyaki grills with my mouth watering. Parking is abundant in this plaza. There is also plenty of seating, inside and outside. At night, they have this black UV light going on inside, the ones that make your white clothes eerily glow at a club. Yea, it's that kind of place. The drinks are alright. I've tried a few milk teas and smoothies, none of which really stand out to me. Their drinks are kind of pricey if you want anything other than some regular milk tea flavors. I had their "signature" cookie milk tea last time. Not worth. The one interesting thing about this place is the gamut of drink sizes they offer, from kawaii to sumo to OD. Tip: their kawaii size does have more volume than the large and isn't just a decorated cup (experimentally proven). In the end, I probably would only come here if I were in the area and I really needed a quick fix, which seems to happen more often than not. read more

This joint is always and never fails to be a family affair for me. My niece, her mom and I always try catching this spot for their happy hour so price-wise, we feel less guilty for our need to get their OD size. I've been a boba fan for awhile but I only treat myself every now and then. There's TONS of boba places but this one is near & dear because every time I got here means it's family time. So our top flavors: Taro-- slush or milk, lavender milk tea, honeydew because it's the closest thing to an avocado type of flavor my dad likes, and regular milk tea. My family's simple but Oko delivers comfort in those basic flavors and as much I try not to order boba anymore, I always do here. They changed and renovated their look. Practically looks like you step into a coloring book now. You'll know what I mean when you step inside. Unfortunately, haven't gotten to try their snacks yet but eventually we will. We even have our own table when we need some girl talk before we bring back all the goods. My latest drink I've tried... Sakura Milk Tea with a custom design milk foam right on top! So of course for fun, I decided, "I'll go with Sailor Moon please!!". The 90s little girl in me freaked! The foam art in general was a sweet little fancy touch. However, try to see if you guys can use a darker color for the lining to see it better! And try to make the foam less bubbly? It does ruin the pretty art. Great attempt though! YELP 100 CHALLENGE 2018 - 57/100. Hubbers was in the mood for a burger for dinner. We've pretty much gone to all (if not most) of the burger joints within a 5-mile radius to home, so he wanted to try something new. Then he remembered me mentioning the charcoal burger to him from awhile back, and immediately, the dilemma of where to go went bye-bye! It looked like it was closed from afar since there were no lights outside indicating otherwise, but as we drove closer, they were clearly open. It was simply just dark in there. I let Hubbers take his time to look over the menu. He went for the Tokyo (same one I had the first time.) I went for the Osaka. Hubbers also got an order of fries with bacon cheddar topping as well as a macaroon. I almost forgot to order my ginger-mint-pineapple fusion green iced tea, good thing I didn't or the visit would have been disastrous! Ten minutes and our number was called. We were handed the drink as well as the fries. Then we were told it'll be a few more minutes for the burger. We sat back down and both thought the container for the macaroon was really cute. And my drink, like the last time, was very refreshing. Then we realized we weren't given the bacon cheddar sprinkles for our fries. We would have gone up to ask for it but there was NO ONE up front for some time. We decided to mention it once the burgers were done. But it took another 15 minutes before that was ready. Needless to say, my drink was gone and the fries were cold by the time we got home. Hubbers liked his burger. Mine was meh. There were only 2 small pieces of mushroom which wasn't cooked long enough for its flavor profile to pop out. The pork belly was bland. The patty was juicy, but a bit on the bland side. It's a good thing there was squid ink sauce which was pretty much THE only factor that gave flavor to the entire sandwich. I really wish they timed our entire order ready when our number was called out. We really didn't mind waiting so long as everything was good to go at first call. The wait kinda downed the experience. The only reason I'd return is if I have the need to drive someone else here. Otherwise... nah. TIP: do NOT order the charcoal burgers on a first date. When I want boba, I continuously drive by Boba Time and Ding Tea because I want to help out small businesses instead. However, after today, I will not be coming back. The employee there was adamant in requiring my 14 month old to wear a mask. I informed her that my son was 1 and she said he still needed to wear a mask. I then asked if the law requires children under 2 to wear a mask. She stated she didn't know the law but he needed to wear one. I then pointed her to the paperwork from the FDA posted on her window where it clearly states children under 2 are not required to wear a mask. She didn't care. Why is this an issue? Because children under 2 have smaller airways which make breathing under a mask difficult for them. In addition, they are not able to communicate that they cannot breathe nor remove their mask which can lead to suffocation. The result? I will stop at Boba Time instead. At least they take the time to train and inform their employees on current laws and regulations that could potentially cause someone their life. read more

There are some tables/seatings inside but once there is a long line, you're better off just taking things to go. I ordered the Osaka burger, which comes with a "bamboo charcoal" burger bun - basically looks black haha. You have the option of choosing different sauces for the burger, I forgot the name of the sauce - but it is basically made of thousand island but they add a coloring so that it makes it look like squid ink sauce. A novelty thing. We got the sweet potato fries and chose the furikake seasoning. Just open the little bag, pour it into the fries, and shake shake shake! As for drinks, unfortunately I didn't get to try any. You do have the option (for an extra fee) to have your drink in a cute light bulb glass cup. It glows in the dark too. It looks pretty cool. So cute - The B O B A BALLS! were the softest & chewy-est I've tried and I'm in love! Trust me, I have tried plenty of boba balls in and around Socal but have been desperately looking for the perfect ones like those I tried in Asia. This place comes the closest to it so far! SNACKS: - Taiyaki (2 for $5): So very disappointed ): would've made my day complete but nope failed me hard here. The older man is hard at work making these on the spot but the dough and the fillings are all just wrong. There is WAY too much dough and it is cakey and gross. We tried red bean & matcha cream. Matcha is a NO GO. Idk how they came up with this bland green paste that doesn't taste like anything. Red bean was ok. The Korean fish bread is crispier on the outside with delicious & plently of filling inside. Maybe too high of an expectation from Oko. - Sample Sakura Mini Taiyaki: They gave everyone a sample of their new sakura flavored taiyaki and this was surprisingly a LOT better. Still not the best, but maybe because it is bite-sized I could not taste the dough as much. It was filled with their red bean paste. Asian Man stands by the back of the restaurant and doesn't say anything. No greeting, I have to tell him I'm ready to order. Man, takes my & $ order and sits down. He's more concerned with looking at his phone versus making my lychee boba tea or getting someone to do it, in his empty establishment. Doesn't say anything about my drink being made and I wait outside as their posted signs say to do. I waited for a girl to come out and make my drink. It took almost 10 minutes! I'd hate to see what happens, when there's 2 or more guests in line. You'll be there for 1/2 an hour! Go to Honey Boba instead. It's close! Great job trying to persuade a 1st time customer to come back, during this pandemic.‍ I've worked in customer service my whole life and unfortunately Oko Cafe failed miserably today and there were zero customers around, just me. I really like Oko! I had the Osaka burger and it was really good. The shiitake mushroom and flavors of the burger were so good. So what does the black bum do flavorwise? Absolutely nothing. So I'd probably pass on the burger in the future. But go ahead and try it because "it's cool" to have a black burger. You know, so you can Instagram it and it'll be free advertisement for the cafe. However, I did try the taiyaki which is a must! It's freshly made to order and it's crispy and fresh when you receive it. The drinks are offered in four sizes. DRINKS: + My friends tried the charcoal smoothie, and I got a mix of banana, passion fruit and mango. Mine was pretty thick, but super delicious! The girls working were so nice, attentive and caring. We were sharing some deep conversations, and the girls let other customers know they were closing but gave us space. Oko Cafe seems to mostly emphasize the drink options, which cover teas, milk teas, smoothies, slushies, bubble teas, mojito teas, ice milks, over their food which tends to be snacky versions of Udon, Tempura, Hamburgers, fried potato variations, chicken wings, Okonomiyaki/savory pancakes, Ra-men. The inside theme is based on Sumo- (soo moh) wrestlers who are usually king size in terms of their muscles & girth. All their food titles include Sumo- to imply that the amount of food is large as well as their taste being big in flavour. The interior is a "funky" mixture of whimsical cut outs of Sumo- wrestlers where you can post behind them since there is a cut out for your head to be placed for photo opps. The farther walls are lined with various boxes of supplies strewn here & there along with another wall with papers plastered on the wall with performance times & names for the Sumoo Challenge. There is definitely a feeling of kick back although the combination of the loud mixers & music can get pretty noisy. The counter is usually manned by cute little Japanese anime waitress types wearing daisy dukes. So if you like to see some "tail" while ordering a Ra-men Bun, a Smoothie, or Milk tea to up your appetite & get the salivary glands going, the viewing is included in the purchase. Not that that would interest me, but I'm just sayin' for those who want to be in the know. Oko Cafe is a rather idiosyncratic eating establishment. I went one night on a Monday having a craving for some Yaki Soba, which is Ra-men noodles sauteed with cabbage, onions, meat like pork belly with Japanese style sweet, fruity, spice/herbed worchester sauce, sprinkled with Ao Nori/dried green seaweed powder, Beni Sho-ga/pickled crimson ginger. (Maybe mayonnaise sprinkled on top.) When I went up to the counter, the anime waitress showing buns told me that they didn't serve any food on Mondays. With all the signs they have hanging up on the walls & windows, I didn't see any sign saying 'no food Mondays'. Later I went on a Wednesday hoping to cop my long awaited Yaki Soba, but NO LUCK. They told me that they were changing to a new menu in about a week and so they only had hamburgers. She explained all this in her honest-to-goodness squeaky female anime voice. I couldn't get mad since I didn't want her to get pissed off & perform a Kamehameha on me. (Google the Dragon Ball anime, not the King from ancient Hawai'i.) So I ordered the To-kyo- Burger to take out. It was a little too noisy in there at the time, but the rest of the customers just ate it all up. The Sumoo To-kyo- Burger is a "cheese burger topped with pork belly, fried egg, lettuce, tomato Sumoo Sauce". The ground meat was cooked medium well, & would have liked it medium better since the meat doesn't dry out. Pork Belly is cooked to the point of being like a well cooked bacon strip. Lettuce was a bit of romaine. The Sumoo Sauce comes in 9 variations, but I chose the original which Miss Dukes said was made from garlic. The To-kyo Burger came out piping hot. The buns were not toasted, but were soft with a bit of dry, rough texture for contrast. The hot meat contrasted with the cool crispness of the romaine & the gooshiness of the tomato added a bit of an acid gastrique. The garlic in the Original Sumoo sauce was mild, but did add to the savory gestalt. Although Oko Cafe doesn't serve beer, a nice light IPA would have worked great with the beefiness. I would rate this 3+ Yelp stars. Next time I go to Oko Cafe, I expect to be chomping down on my long anticipated Yaki Soba. Until then, the rating stands at the 3+ rating. And I do expect to have a waiter with a big bushy moustache who looks like either Mario or Luigi. If not, there will be one less Yelp star due to these series of "disappointments". Great place to hang out if your buns still haven't lost their anti-gravity effect yet and drooped & sagged out of your Daisy Dukes. read more

This place needs to stop changing names. What used to be Teppan 360 is now Oko Cafe. Same owners and everything, but I guess they wanted a name that let's people know it is a teahouse as well. I only come here for one thing and that is their drinks. They have the bucket size drinks just like many of the 626 area teahouses. Usually i get the Honey Milk Tea, while varying the tea. You get to choose oolong, green/jasmine, and black tea, but the green tea is probably my favorite. Oolong is a little light and honey & black tea is not as good of a combo as honey & green tea! You can vary the sweetness of your drinks as well. I go for my 1/4 sugar and they usually make it right on. For around $4.50, it's not a bad price, especially if Tea Station next door is charging easily over $6 for a large drinks. Ridiculous. read more

So first off, I was immediately amazed at how high-tech the stamp system works at this boba place. I'm used to receiving a rudimentary stamp card that I keep in my wallet. Instead, you put your information on their seminal touch computer. It then keeps track of how many stamps you have since you're in their system. I don't know, that blew me my socks off. I got myself a red bean snow bubble. I gotta say that their menu is simply incondite. There are various pictures of burgers and solid foods... But I simply could not locate it on their menu because I did wonder at how much they cost. The TV in the background features a vivacious array of comedic videos featuring sumo wrestlers. I think that alone gives this place some flair. The main aspect of Oko Cafe that imbued me with happiness was when 4Minute's "Hot Issue" began blaring on their stereo. I am absolutely enamored with K pop and J pop; so the background music of this establishment inundated me with blithe feelings. The only foible about it is that the music was a bit too loud. Oko Cafe offers a selection of instant noodles that they cook for you on the spot. Despite not being interested, I thought it was pretty fascinating. Since I'm not a big bean fan, I was pleasantly surprised that there were beans in my red bean snow bubble. All in all, the refreshment was delicious. read more
