First time here and got the "819" burger to-go. Server was friendly over the phone taking my order and everyone was friendly as well when I got there to pick it up. Food was actually ready before the time they told me so that's always a plus. Burger and fairies are cooked how I like and everything has lots of flavor as well. My mom had been wanting to check out this place for a while so we decided to go. In terms of service, I thought our waitress was very friendly and prompt with our order. They offer outdoor seating which is nice. Now lets get to the food and drinks. I ordered a cheeseburger and fries. The fries were a winner, but my burger had a bit of a burnt taste. My mother had fries and the patty melt. She loved both. The sodas tasted horrible. Me and my mom got different drinks and neither tasted like soda. I didn't complain about it but did go grab a bottled cook at a local convenience store. I did think the waitress would have noticed that neither one of us drink our sodas and went and bought bottled drinks, but she didn't. That is my fault for not saying something though. Anyway, my mom did like her food...so maybe I just need to try something different on the menu. I know others who have tried and liked. Oh if you go...there is a mural on the side of the restaurant that is awesome for pictures. read more

There was a looong wait at the 'other place' so we rode on over here. Glad we did- seated immediately at the bar on a busy Saturday afternoon and cold glasses of water were placed at our fingertips to quench our thirsts. Y'all, its July in Texas and it's HOT out there. The fellow tourist beside us leaned over and whispered: try the hamburgers, they're amazing. Yelpers say I need a bowl of the potato soup, but it's 90* and at least that much in humidity and we're on the bike, so... we'll come back for soup. Today? It's the hamburger. The 'Bonfire' for me. A buffalo chicken wrap for hubby. The barmaid says we made the right choice with fries for the side, though we could have had fresh fruit or salad or chips. (While we wait: the ambiance here is pretty neat- penny covered bar top, train paraphernalia on the walls. It's neither too loud or unbearably quiet. The (only) TV behind the bar is playing a doubles tennis match. I feel like this is the kinda place where there could be live music in the evenings and a bunch of local friends hanging out enjoying drinks, but even us out of towners would be welcome to throw back a pint or two.) Soooo, just met Daniel (one of the owners). Introduced himself while refilling our waters, noticed our bike gear and asked about where we were riding from. Nice guy. Always love seeing the 'boss' work just as hard as the hired help does. He agreed: it's too hot for the potato soup, but it would be worth the return. Well, the bottleneck of this place is certainly the kitchen. We've been sitting and chatting a while, and we're still waiting for food. Our barmaid just swung by to bring us a plate of the house-cut chips to munch on (yummy!) and apologized for the wait. Seems our order got 'pushed to the side, but they're working on it now.' I'm looking at the clock (hadn't really noticed with the great conversation). It's been an hour since we sat down and food just showed up. Womp-womp. The verdict? It was worth the wait. The Bonfire burger sits in front of me as a messy mound of deliciousness. You could smell the grilled onions and jalapeños- and see a healthy serving of bacon on top (yes, I said healthy and bacon in the same sentence). He baby and I had a discussion of soft bun (potato bread) vs dense bun (ciabatta). I prefer a sturdier bun, but the soft bread on this is necessary to fit it. All. In. Your. Mouth. Hand cut fries- hubby said 'it doesn't get any better than these'. He keeps stealing them off my plate as I type... Daniel just walked by to check in- offered us a dessert for the wait but we're much too full to even attempt it. Our barmaid came by a few moments later to say lunch is on her, and sorry again for the wait. Excellent food, apologetic service. Really, a great overall first impression. We'll be back. The bright side is that the food was absolutely amazing and reasonably priced. My hamburger pattie was thick, juicy, and overall delicious! Very quaint little bar and grille in the old downtown district. Really nice atmosphere. A little pricey. My wife and I both ordered soup and salad. The baked potato soup was served a little too hot in a small bowl. The salads were served in interesting slanted bowls, like are used for taco salads. Soups were $6, salads $9, and entrees ranged from $15-$28. Nothing around the area looked open after 9p. Old town vibe. read more

I talked Mark into a new spot, with chicken fried steak. He loves chicken fried steak. Disappointed to see the daily specials board showed Monday as chicken fried chicken, while their webpage shows it as chicken fried steak. CFC is one of my favs, so I ordered that. I enjoyed it. Mark ordered the BLT. He said it was pretty dry because the bacon was overdone. I snuck some of his fries. Love them! Next time we'll go on Tuesday, for burger special, or Friday, for fish and chips.
