I wish I could say that our experience at Old Chicago was excellent, but that's just not going to happen! We stopped going to this Old Chicago a looong time ago. I can't remember why, but it was obvious enough for us to say "nope" whenever we wanted to eat out. This time around, family was in town, and the debate of whether to wait for our large(r) party of 10 at JackStack for an hour was worth it. We ended up going to Old Chicago after calling to ensure we could get a table. When we arrived, it was a 10 minute wait to be seated. Whether they forgot about us (in the 5 minutes it took us to drive over from the hotel) or what have you, we don't know. We kept our moods light though. Once we were seated, we waited. And waited. And waited. After 20 minutes, we had to actually go remind the "host" that we needed a server. (Note: We found out that there was no official host that day and servers were taking turns acting as host. Unfortunately, our "host" neglected to tell our server about our table since it would outside of her normal tables.) Once we had a server (who had been there for almost 12 hours straight apparently), we ordered drinks and food. I will say that our waitress handled it with ease. She even went to great lengths to make sure our dairy-free guest was taken care of. If this review were about Chrissy (Christine? Something like that), we wouldn't have a problem. First issue: The kitchen burnt one of the table's calzones. It was fine though; we waited. Second issue: The kitchen actually missed the changes for another of the table's calzones. Oops. This isn't a good start. After waiting so long for a server and then food, it ended up being a waste of 2-2.5 hours. The worst part is that the food wasn't even worth the issues. It wasn't like we had the best darn calzone or pizza we had ever had; it was more like, average at best. The manager did comp the two calzones, but it wasn't enough. I used to think this place was good, but this location struggles to maintain a medium level of service. I tried to eat at the bar but waited for 15 minutes for the bartender to give me a menu. I called them and they told me the kitchen didn't get it when i know they did cuz it went through on app. So they either didn't see my order or threw it away.... Which is bull crap. Went there last night with my boyfriend, and we won't be back. Been here before but the employee I had tonight was extremely rude and she looked like she was ready to leave . I even had to ask another server about my drink cause she never brought it . She didn't even show up at all till the very end. Ordered two pizzas on Thursday evening for carry out. Once I got them home both pizzas were under cooked and extremely doughy in the middle. Not to mention my wife had issues while placing the order. The appetizers are fucking incredible!! Our main dishes were great, but we were in such a food coma from absolutely destroying the appetizers that I don't remember much about them. We got the parmesan garlic fries, bacon and cheddar mac n' cheese bites, and the fried spicy pickles and they were all delicious. The Thai sweet chili sauce with the pickles ruined me for any other dipping sauce. This place deserves more than 5 stars. read more

The only word that I can find to describe the food is "bleh". When we were seated (party of 4), the table was sticky and dirty as if it hadn't been cleaned between seatings. We brought it to her attention and the seating waitress wiped about 40% of the table. She said the tables just didn't ever feel clean even when they were. Whatever that means. We ordered quickly as we were in a bit of a hurry. The food came out quickly and hot. The issue wasn't the speed, but the taste. It was just bad. The pizza nachos (which was recommended by the waitress) are on wanton chips. The chips never really embraced the pizza flavor. It's as if it were two different meals. The pizza ingredients just sat atop the chips instead of mixing with them if that makes sense. They just aren't the type of chip for the meal. Another person in the party ordered mac and cheese. The cheese tasted like it was powdered cheese. It was disgusting and bland. No flavor at all. The cheese was close to runny, not creamy. The other two people in the party ordered pizza and vegetables. The vegetables seemed to come from a bag or something. The pizza was just okay. The best thing about the meal was the ice water. I had 3 glasses. I will never ever visit this place again. The menu itself was all over the place. The food was not great. The cost wasn't bad, but you get what you pay for. read more

Pretty much an unspectacular resturant. The food is pretty good, but not anything to cheer about. They do have half-price appetisers during late-night hours which is a plus. I also totally agree with Kyle that this is more of a great place to go for Beer. I will say however that I am horribly bitter that these guys have 110 different brews and they don't have Becks, which for me is a personal FAIL. However, chances are if you do have a favorite brew of some kind, they will have it on tap. read more

I love this place ! They have great pizza and great bartenders ! If you like beer and pizza , they have a ton to choose from...My husband says that other than sex thats all he needs...so we go there a lot! I have had every pizza there and they are all great! My favorite is the thai pizza or the double deck-a-roni. Not sure if I spelled that right but you get it.. The bartenders there are always friendly and take great care of their customers. Lunch service is Sssslllllloooooooowwwwwwww. 0 for service, 4 for food. I've only been in for lunch service, usually with my four lunch companions. We are always searching for a quick & tasty lunch as Lenexa is notoriously devoid of restaurants. We've been to Old Chicago at least eight times in the last year. Overall I have no complaints about the food. I usually order the lunch special. The salad is crisp and the pizza is very good, a pepperoni and ham combo pizza. Since I've introduced YELP to my lunch companions, (none of which have a smart phone) we've created our own banned list for lunch. Old Chicago made the list this week. We can't take over an hour for a lunch break. We entered for lunch on Tuesday and as usual the hostess stand was vacant. When the hostess finished her conversation with the bartender/waitress we were finally seated. Several minutes later, when the waitress could fit us into her schedule we were visited. Long story short, the food was good, A+ on the salads. Service, one hour+ FAIL! After being served, the usual "do you need anything?" that normally takes place within minutes of being served, as I remember, has never ever happened. One note, we stand in line for 10 minutes for lunch service across the street at Oklahoma Joe's and have to hunt for an empty table. Yet here, the food is good but the place is empty at lunchtime. I counted 17 guests, including us. That leaves 85-90%% of the tables open. The only line at the door........waiting for the hostess. Has anyone else had this experience? read more

The best, and most important, thing about Old Chicago is the World Beer Tour. They have 110 beers at the bar (around 30 on tap, the rest in bottles) and along with that, they have seasonal beers that rotate throughout the year. The World Beer Tour is a loyalty program that keeps track of the beers you've drank and rewards you along the way. Fun program and a great way to build loyalty from customers. The food's pretty decent too, though nothing spectacular. I wouldn't choose it straight up over any other restaurant of the same genre (Applebee's, Chilis, Outback, etc.). The beer's what makes me go to Old Chicago, though they need to build one within 30 miles of my house! Great, friendly service too. Along with NTN trivia and huge TV's for watching the game, Old Chicago is a great place to kill time! read more

I guess if you don't like pizza, beer, or calzones, you shouldn't expect to be satisfied here, and I rarely am. I make the occasional visit anyway to avoid overly crowded bars. This place does the job in that aspect. Everything I've ever had here has just been okay with the exception of the nachos I had last night. They were pretty good. And huge. They come with an oversized side of salsa, which was halfway decent for being a pizza joint. My friend and I split them, and we still had half left. Compared to most of their overpriced items, this was a very good deal. Servers are just okay. Drinks vary in alcohol content. This place is just middle-of-road and average to me, but at least they air all the popular games and it's close to home. read more

The hubs and I used to come here fairly often, but we hadn't been in awhile. It's going to be quite awhile before we return again. Let me start with two words: fruit flies. And lots of them. We were seated in a booth that is close to both the bar and the front door, so perhaps that was part of it. My husband was swatting them left and right and the waiters walked by without doing anything, which made it seem like no one cared that they have fruit flies buzzing around us. So, that was disgusting and we almost left. But we decided to stay. Our food arrived. They had messed up the order (sausage was on my pizza, green olives were on my husband's pizza). Also, the balsamic vinaigrette on my salad tasted like pure oil, without any flavor -- so if only someone cared enough to shake the bottle, it would've probably tasted right. They brought us the check. It was someone else's check. Our waiter (Bruce or Brice?) was very nice and apologetic. He comped our pizza and gave us one to-go. The bottom of the pizza box had pizza sauce all over it, which my husband discovered when he put his hand in it as we were getting in the car. So, we got out of the car, walked back to the restaurant, and asked for a new, clean pizza box. Like I said, we won't be back for quite awhile. read more

I have been so excited to go back out to restaurants since I was vaccinated. I took my granddaughter to Old Chicago tonight for dinner. She ordered pasta and I ordered a pizza. When it came out, it was the wrong pizza. It took them 25 minutes to get me the right pizza, by which time I had to get it to go because we had somewhere to be. Very disappointed. And especially because I was charged full price for everything. I am not looking to get a free meal, but I think some recognition should have been given to the fact that I could not eat my dinner until later in the evening after I had left. After baking in the sun of a Royals game, we wanted some pizza at about 10:45pm on a Saturday (yes, 10:45pm...not 1:00am...and yes, Saturday, not Wednesday). I called my go-to area pizza, Minsky's, and they were closed. Seriously? Ugh... The only place open for pizza in the area was Old Chicago, so I ordered. As a native Chicagoan, along with my cousin who is a native Chicagoan and north-side resident, we are pizza snobs...but, as I mentioned in a previous review somewhere, we know to dumb down our expectations when it comes to pizza in places like KC . We ordered a thin crust with Italian sausage and green peppers. Thin because we were hungry and didn't want to wait for a deep dish. The sausage, while Italian, was just odd...it was sliced instead of clumped (picture gyro meat)...just, wow, odd. Everything about the pizza screamed New York, even though this is Old Chicago. Yes, there is a Chicago style of thin crust pizza, and it's fantastic. No need to crap up the pizza by making it New York style...yuck. The pizza did the trick and filled us op. The service (to go, so I just dealt with one person) was friendly and fast. I have been here before and remember some of the food being fine and the beer being cold. However, if it wasn't the only place open late in the area on a Saturday night for pizza, I definitely would not have rushed over here. read more

The menu options are great but the food not so much. I had the pizza nachos and my husband had a burger. Not recommended. However, the fried pickle app was amazing! How does this place not have a consistent five stars? The wait staff is quick and very informative about the menu (especially drinks) and they have the best pizza in any sit-down restaurant in the Olathe/ Overland Park area. Also, those Italian nachos are fabulous!! I used to go to Old Chicago a lot when I first moved to Olathe, but then I gained 15 lbs and I am trying to lose it. I ended up at this Old Chicago one night this week after a couple of other places I was considering were closed (a lot of the sidewalks roll up at 9:00 in Olathe). Old Chicago stays open past midnight! They're running a special right now which gets you a salad and an individual specialty pizza for $11, which is hard to beat! I got a Caesar and the Chicago 7 pizza, which has sausage, mushrooms, pepperoni and other tasty debris on top! The salad was very good -- it's a tasty Caesar dressing -- and I also liked the Chicago 7. I think I've ordered the Classic at their Metcalf location a couple of times and it's OK but I found it a little bland. The Chicago 7 has more zip and you can kick it up loading it with chili flakes and extra parmesan. So I think this will be my "go to" order at Old Chicago! I washed it all down with a draft Free State Storm Chaser. It's a fine IPA with a bitter note that's a bit stronger than Ad Astra, which I also like a lot! Service was a bit scattered when I first arrived. It took a while for someone to notice me sitting there, even though it wasn't crowded. But once I flagged down a server everything was fine. He was very efficient and attentive and my food arrived quickly, which is good because I was famished! I'll be back, especially if I'm having a food attack later in the evening! read more

Our group comes here every Saturday night and we have been very happy with the service when we get our regular server Heidi. However, when she's not there we request a server and have yet to be seated in the section of the server we requested. I'm not sure how the hosts of every restaurant in Olathe point don't know their own seating charts but it's incredibly frustrating. Old Chicago is a chain that is in need of a reboot. The pizzas are just OK. The beer selection was once the best any where around, but now it has grown stale and needs more local brews instead of the "worldly" beers on the tour. The service has something to be desired. When my wife ordered an IPA in which they were out of she asked for recommendation for a replacement and the server brings her a dark and malty winter warmer. Huh? But I digress, we come here for pretty much one thing now and that is the Italian Nachos. Light fresh chips topped with mozzarella cheese, sausage, pepperoni and banana peppers. My wife and I have visited many Old Chicagos in our time together. They hold a solid place in our eating out rotation. We stopped in because we were up for some pizza, and yes! This was really good! Firstly, we chose to sit in the dining area as, in many places, the bar tends to be a bit noisy. We knew immediately that we wanted Italian Nachos, so we ordered those with our drinks. If you've never had them or heard of them, they are the bomb! Thin strips of pizza dough become the chips, then layer on mozzarella cheese, pepperoni, and sausage with some pizza sauce for dipping. It's heaven on a plate. With Old Chicago celebrating an anniversary, they are selling a large version of the platter. The regular appetizer size is more than a meal for one, so the large version should feed a large group. You can also get pepperichini and jalapenos on the nachos, but we don't care for those. Now, the main event. We ordered a deep dish pizza to share with pepperoni, beef, and canadian bacon. Maybe I haven't had pizza in a while or maybe it was the fact that tasting it brought back good memories of when I was a kid going to the pizza parlor, but this was one of the best pizzas I had ever eaten! Even bad pizza is pretty good, but when it's good pizza, it's really good! For as often as I've come to Old Chicago, I'd never actually gotten a pizza. I think I will more often now. This was excellent! A small nitpick came when my drink came in. I ordered a Dr. Pepper and the server gave me a Coke. No problem. She gave me a Dr. Pepper on the refill without me even mentioning it. We've had good to great service there over the years. One of our favorites. They could use some updating on the TV's. If you are wanting to watch games this is probably not the best choice of places. I was skeptical to try Old Chicago after about 15 years because of some of the other reviews but I'm so glad I did! The staff was really nice and the waiter was great and attentive. I got a calzone and it was delicious and I was full off of only half and was able to enjoy the rest today for lunch. My friend enjoyed her pizza as well. I do not know where to start with this place! It is in my top 10 places to go in Kansas City. To start, the menu is filled with a variety of different options for everyone with different types of tastes. Second, the staff always embraces the do everything you can for the customer attitude. I have not gone in once and every seen a disgruntled employee. And I think the part that I love the most about this place is the night life. The restaurant itself closes at 12:00am however they still have a nice steady flow of patrons that come in around 10:00 and 11:00. I personally work in the area and I know that some of my coworkers like to get off work and go to Old Chicago for some post shift drinks. The food is also fantastic, I personally get the Beer Burger every single time I go in and have never had a problem with this place whatsoever. Pizza and Italian Nachos are very good. You can place a half order of I. N. and still have enough for two. I am not much of a beer drinker but they frequently offer new selections. If you are not sure if you will like your beer selection they will offer you a little taste. My only disappointment is they discontinued fried mozzarella sticks, perfect bar food to have with your beer when watching a game or waiting for a movie. My husband and I just left Old Chicago and although the food was excellent the service we received was awful. Our server, Kyle was inattentive after the initial drink and appetizer order. Our drinks were empty for a bit before he asked if we needed a refill, we said yes and I also requested more marinara for our pepperoni rolls (which we never received). After we finished with the appetizer, Kyle finally asked if we wanted to order some entrees. We each ordered a sandwich and a salad, Kyle asked if we wanted the salads out first (we said yes). When the gentleman in the yellow sweater delivered our sandwiches, he asked if we already had gotten our salads, my husband said no, so he went and got them for us. At this point we had been there over an hour, so we decided to eat our salads and take our sandwiches home with us. After another 30+ minutes we had to ask for togo boxes and our check. When he brought our check, he had forgotten to subtract the coupon I told him we had when we first ordered, so he took the check back to correct it, which took him another 10 minutes to bring back the corrected bill. After waiting 10 minutes for him to come pick up our card so he could run it, we finally decided to pay with cash so we could leave, since we had been at Old Chicago more than 2 hours. As we were putting on our coats, he stopped and asked us if we needed change. This was the worst experience we have had at Old Chicago. read more
