We went for lunch. I ordered beef ribs, I got the shredded beef. It's okay, little dry because I don't like the sauce to put it on. The service was something to be desired. Got wrong on my drink order. My favorite was the sweet potato soufflé. The ambience is very family vibes. I think I will try for the breakfast next time.

Fast service during the lunch hour. Great flavor from old school bbq. They have been in business for decades and have get it down perfect.

My favorite barbecue - I grew up on it when it was all over the place. Now there's only one left so I have to plan my trip to come by. The Brunswick stew is the star, followed by the beef, pork, and ribs. ( I've never had the chicken.) Love their garlic bread and breakfast, not necessarily together, but it does sound good Put some south in your mouth!

Finally got to try Old Hickory House in Tucker, GA, after my friends Beth & Luis hyped it up. Got there right as they opened, and the parking lot was already semi-full. (Don't worry, there's extra parking on the side!) This place has strong old-school diner vibes, with great service, a massive menu, and tasty food at a great price. I tried: Barbecue Omelet with Beef: Loaded with beef and paired with thick, non-watery grits - perfection. Short Stack with Bacon: Pancakes were tasty, but I wish they had some crisp edges. The bacon was thick, crispy, and just right. Country Chicken & Gravy Biscuit Platter: The real MVP here! Perfectly battered chicken with flavorful gravy on a biscuit that's crunchy on the outside, buttery on the inside, and doesn't fall apart. All this for just $5! The atmosphere is lively with families, and there's a bar-style seating option if you're dining solo. Nikki, my server, was amazing and made sure my drink never hit the bottom. Highly recommend for a solid breakfast experience. Give it a try and let me know what you think!

We took my aunt here the Sunday before Christmas. She loves veggies and they serve different delicious ones daily on the board. The BBQ pork I had was still great after all these years along with the best Brunswick stew in Ga. Inmho. Ambiance is casual with old pictures on the wall. There are tv's but no music so conversation is encouraged. Service was good even though the after church crowd had the place packed. Bottom line Old Hickory House never disappoints.

Wow! So glad we chose this place on the way home from a road trip this weekend! Some of the best BBQ I've ever had! We ordered online and the 30 min wait was worth it! The place was packed on a Sat. The chopped chicken was perfect in my opinion; not too sauced up so you can be healthy if you want. The thick BBQ on the side was so thick I wasn't sure if it was a side of baked beans at first! Collards were just what I expect from a side of southern greens but my favorite side was tbe potatoes salad! More potatoes than I normally get in each side and a great slightly sweet slightly tangy flavor! Large portion of chicken and not one but TWO delicious cornbread muffins ! I will be back to sit in next time. Staff was friendly and had a southern charm in the air. My dogs in the parking lot loved the smells

Ask the Community - Old Hickory House

I used to frequent the old Hickory house in Charlotte up until they closed. Is this the same group that used to have the places in North Carolina?

    Yes it would be.

Highly recommend "Celina with a C" and her band, that lady was singing the house down and working the room at the same time. My steak was cooked perfectly. I also added shrimp to my ribeye for a surf and turf and I got 6 colossal shrimp, so they don't skimp on servings. All the food is seasoned well, but I didn't find anything salty. Katch is really cute inside and it's a great spot for an evening out with the girls, date night, or even a solo night at one of the bars. I've been here a few times and would recommend for dinner or brunch.

Our party of 7 had a 2:45p reservation; and we were seated early at 2:35p. The interior was very roomy and well decorated, including artwork and a large aquarium at the entrance. We ordered drinks & entrees after perusing the menu for about 10 minutes. Drinks arrived about 30 minutes later and were great. Our entrees took much longer and were served about 3:40P. My wife and I ordered chicken & waffles. The chicken was tasty, but we both thought our waffles were a little "gummy", and needed another 2 or more minutes in the waffle iron. I finished mine nonetheless. Others in our party ordered pork chops, lamb chops, and a fried chicken sandwich. The R&B music was familiar and toe tapping, but was just a little too loud. The house band was setting up to perform when we were leaving. Thankfully, we were NOT charged an additional $10 per person for performers fee, as noted at our table. Gratuity was included in the bill. Our waitress Lola was friendly, efficient and attentive. We may try Katch Kitchen again.

It's been a few years since I've dined at Marlow's, but their HH deals brought me in. I sat at the bar, and maybe they were in the middle of a shift change bc it took a while to get greeted and service throughout my experience was slow. I had to wave them down, ask for refills instead of the bartender being diligent. The bar was full, but at one point I saw one of the bartenders texting, so they had time to check on guests. I'm also in the service industry , so I may notice these things more than the average person. Anyways, their happy hour is one of the best I've come across. $5 margs & $6 old fashions to highlight a few items. I love a happy hour with food AND drinks. The food here is still as solid as I remember. I had the kettle chips and wings. Wings were not sauced, but very crispy and came with dipping sauce on the side. The chips were hella good! Crispy and the toppings were great. I had those two appetizers, 3 margs and a creme brûlée for under $40! That's a win, this will be one of my go-to spots for sure.

Now, here is where the rating was impacted! I asked what type of fish it was before making a selection. The staff responded. "Catfish." Coo! Ultimately, it was NOT catfish. I would attribute the texture and how it fried to being along the lines of a Swai or similar fish. The only thing that saved it was the light cornmeal batter, which was good. Not much seasoning, so hot sauce was needed. Sides: Collard greens - good (per my hubs) Macaroni and cheese - standard/good (per my hubs) Deviled eggs - good Broccoli cheese casserole - PASS (there was some sort of brown crumble between the layer of cheese and the actual casserole and it was not needed and wasn't good! Hard, but honest opinion. Also, there were large mushrooms in the casserole (no, it wasn't from a mushroom soup), so beware if you're not a mushroom eater -- I don't mind. Mashed potatoes - good and creamy (Baby girl did no gravy, so we have no thoughts on that!) Fried okra - good (my fav of the sides for the day). We came before 11:30 AM and that proved to be ideal. By the time we left (12:15), it was packed tighter than a can of sardines! Ambiance -- ehhh. It's typical cafeteria vibes. No music. Basic decor.
