Lived in Knoxville and came to the smokies many times over the past 7-8 years during my college days. And never have I been here in this area! There's parking in the garage but it gets extremely busy. The waitlist might be a while too but what everyone else says, the wait is worth it. You can wait along the rail that leads up to the restaurant and during the cold, it's fine because they have heat lamps hanging from the top! You can also wait inside along the restroom area because there's chairs. The wait isn't too long though because they do it smart. Instead of paying at your table after your meal, you pay at the front. This is convenient on getting people in and out. When you order food, you're paying for a 3 course meal. Every meal comes with a salad, chowder, and corn puffs and biscuits as an appetizer. Then your main meal. Finally, you get dessert. For the appetizer, I don't eat meat and so the waiter allowed me to switch out the chowder with different sides. The corn puffs are so delicious. It's airy and flavorful at the same time. Don't sleep on it! For my main meal, I ordered the spicy fish fillet with broccoli casserole, and Mac and cheese! My bf's side was mashed potatoes and green beans! I couldn't eat the green beans because there were some ham in it. But everything else was really good! But what I'm most excited to talk about is the dessert. I ordered the pecan pie. And it might not look as appetizing. But once you take a bite...it's heaven. We were so full at the end, but it was so easy to eat all the pecan pie. It was so good, that as we were paying we almost bought a whole pie! The only reason why we couldn't buy it was because I don't live in tn anymore, so we were traveling. But I would go back JUST for the pecan pie.. it reminded me of my aunt's pie but slightly better. Shhh! Only because my aunt doesn't crush the pecans and these were crushed. Ok, so I'm thinking this is a tourist trap. Well, I'll go back to this place every time I come to Pigeon Forge! Alana was our server and she was pleasant and flawless. We wanted for nothing. The food was excellent! The corn chowder is something I need to take home in a five gallon bucket! I got beef liver and onions. (I know, half of you can't stand it but the enlightened among us know this is a reason to choose a restaurant!) The wife got chicken and dumplings. She said it was very good. Add on green beans, mashed potatoes and a choice of 5 desserts, and we're talking food coma! Afterwards we rode about to see the Christmas lights. What a great evening. Very disappointed. We chose the Old Mill Restaurant based on the reviews and menu. We were seated after a short and expected wait. When the food arrived it did so w/ a living bug ( unknown if bug was in the food or just arrived simultaneously). We ordered the Meatloaf, Chicken Tenders and Chicken Pot Pie. The chicken tenders were very bland, Chicken Pot Pie was more like chicken soup in a pie crust and included a hair. If I could give this place 0 I would. Food was subpar the meatloaf tasted funky, the potpie was more soupy than pie plus had multiple hairs in it the chicken tenders were beyond bland so much so that store bought chicken tenders would be better. Not to mention the server we could barely understand and she just practically demanded us to have dessert when we said no 5 TIMES the only reason it gets one star is because of the drinks because NO ONE CAN MESS UP SODAS. Good ole southern food. Absolutely loved the corn fritters and corn chowder that comes with your meal. This place is huge and even though it was busy we got seated right away. And we have never had such an efficient, friendly and fast waitress before! She was amazing ! Highly recommend visiting this old mill district and walking around and checking out the milling process at the general store. read more

I kinda feel bad about only giving this a 3 but I just wasn't that impressed. 1st lost star is the loudness. Seriously it was so loud in there I almost left. We seriously could not hear each other talk. We had a rather large group (21) 4 tables with two different servers. The other server had her table's drink and food order in before our server even took our drink order. We were still waiting on our drinks as another table under our same server got their food. We know that our tray of food was dropped and had to be remade...that's fine....these things happen....but the courteous thing to do in this situation is let your customers know. So by now all three of our sister tables were almost done with their meals before ours even arrived. The food was good...nothing outstanding but by now my head was pounding from the noise so that took away from it. You have to eat at the Old Mill if you're ever in the Pigeon Forge area - you will not be disappointed! We had just finished our day at Dollywood so put our name in for the restaurant and there was an hour wait. Spent that hour in the Old Mill compound area looking at all the shops and specialties that were around. This place is so popular that everyone else had the same idea but it all went smoothly. We were seated right at the 1 hr mark. Our waitress was very nice and attentive to the 6 tables she had all at one time. Your meal is served with soup, salad, green beans, corn fritters, mashed potatoes, the meal then dessert. Seriously so much food, so much homecooked food that will last you awhile. I chose the fried shrimp and I'm really regretting not getting a thing of their batter because it was beyond delicious. My husband got the chicken fried steak and thought the same thing and was extremely satisfied afterwards. We took our desserts to go. They are very accommodating and the place is huge but take that into consideration when you visit that they do they best to make sure everyone has a great meal. read more

Went on a Monday night (11/2/21) and waited about 15 minutes. No big deal as it was a favorite of ours each year. I said was...this time the food was bad. I ordered the chicken legs. They were barely warm and had no flavor. My husband ordered the meatloaf. He said it tasted like cardboard and left half to throw away. Another guy who ordered it as well left it. I would recommend calling in a order for carry out. The food is absolutely amazing. But the dining experience is not worth the 2-3 hour wait, not to mention your wait time is spent outside, which may be fine in the summer... just not during the colder time of year. That being said, once we were inside and at our table we did not feel rushed and the staff was very hospitable. For the price of the food, and the amount you get both at the restaurant, and as carry out I have no complaints. I can not wait to go back for another meal... even if it is only carry out. This is a two part review the food itself and the building/atmosphere. The building itself is absolutely beautiful, I love walking in and thinking back to what the building use to be. There is many informative posters and signs teaching what used to be up and running mill. There are several other stores such as general store where you can buy mill, a candy shop, black smith, and brewery. The food on the other hand was mediocre. My friend and I got the salad and as you can see it was bigger than my lap and I am not the smallest human. You could definitely split the salad and still probably have some left over! It was fresh, tasted good, but the problem was it was hard to eat. It needs to be chopped up more but still very good! One of us got the fried catfish and said it was delicious and my husband got the chicken tenders and said they were eatable but not that great either. The corn chowder wasn't our favorite but again, eatable. The corn fritters were good but the rolls were exactly like sister Schubert's (if you know, you know. Dang good rolls but not what I was expecting in a restaurant.) The desert was honestly not good, unfortunately, the banana pudding tasted fake, the cobbler was okay but a little waxy, and the chocolate cake was great but the icing was way to sweet. We are from Illinois and saw this place on Yelp with great reviews. We got there just before they switched from breakfast to lunch. The line was enormous! I couldn't believe they don't use a texting page system!!!! There are so many shops within walking distance that it would make everyone's wait much better to be able to visit more comfortably. No lemonade? Interesting. We ordered fried chicken and chicken tenders. The potatoes and green beans are delicious but that's where it ends. If I didn't know better I thought they catered COLONEL SANDERS...yes KFC...Kentucky Fried Chicken. I didn't pay for fast food quality... or did I? Amazing experience! First you pick your own entree and then everybody gets corn chowder and a house salad. We also got 2 drinks each. After that your table gets your entree and a family bowl of green beans and unlimited refilled mashed potatoes. To top it off everybody gets dessert too. You can get it to go because your probably stuffed after all the food if you need. They gladly box it for you. All if this is included in the price. We last visited Old Mill 4 years ago and absolutely loved it. Not so much this time. They certainly handle the crowds very efficiently. The restaurant has lots of character. The waitress was polite and attentive, but frankly we felt like she was rushing us. The food was not so great. Miniature salad (loved the hush puppies). I ordered chicken dumplings - bland, seemed like the quality you would get at a buffet. My wife's orca consisted of what appeared to be the remnants after the fryer was emptied - tiny bits of bread crumbs. When we paid our bill the young woman working the check out never spoke a word - in fact never looked up. In summary we were disappointed compared to our last visit there. I doubt that we will return. We at at 5 Oaks the next day - very positive experience. read more

Easily the best Southern food on the whole damn planet. Unless you have an old Nana cooking you up some Sunday dinner, nothing beats this place. First, the restaurant is huge. Two stories -- maybe three -- and yet the joint still gets packed with up to an hour long wait at times. Despite that, once you are seated you never feel rushed. The waitresses are quick and efficient. The building is all wooden, so it has a cozy cabin feel to it. One whole side of the building is a massive window, so you can look out at the river while you eat. It's a really great view. Now, the food. I grew up in South Florida, so I never really had Southern food until I moved to Georgia. The Old Mill is all the stories about home cooked meals you hear about under a single roof. I am obsessed with their chicken and dumplings. I also love how all the side dishes come out family style. The waitress will bring small bowls of corn chowder and side salads, followed by overflowing bowls of mashed potatoes, green beans, corn fritters with maple butter, and gravy. The brown gravy is to die for. It's rich and savory, and it must be made from leftover pot roast because it has bits of shredded meat in it. I would get it in a to go cup of they would let me, it's that good. Everything is seasoned really well, and every dinner meal comes with dessert! They always have pecan pie and blackberry cobbler, but they sometimes have a special dessert too. Go for the cobbler! read more

3.5- I wasn't underwhelmed nor overwhelmed, but I think I over hyped the place. I will say the service/ front of the house was a well oiled machine getting big groups in and out/ seated quickly. There were two of us and we were seated quickly during a busy Sunday lunch. We got sat by a window facing the river/ creek/ mill area so it was a nice view. Our waitress was quick to bring out drinks. My only gripe about building is that there isn't really noticeable a/c so going in early August was kind of hot. My deductions were for food. I ordered the chicken and dumplings and it came out with not too many dumpling and a soupy gravy/ sauce. The consistency of the soup sauce made the small amount of chicken pieces weird. I enjoyed the green beans and corn fritters that came with the meal a good deal. The mashed potatoes were the potato skin/ Yukon. I had to add salt but that's just a personal preference. The corn chowder was decent for an add on (I'm from IN so we don't play when it comes to corn chowder). My husband got a cheese burger and said for a basic burger it was really good. We were beyond impressed from the welcome stand to the wait list to the seating to the ordering to the awesome food. It was so well streamlined. As for the food, everything was delicious.
