Hubs was on a mission to find Ride Share. We heard that beer was in stock at Old Town Beer Exchange. We checked out Yelp reviews to know what to expect and put the address in maps and drove over. We haven't been downtown in a while on Holmes so we were shocked to see all the new businesses and a new parking garage. The location at 301 East Holmes was easy enough to find and with a parking garage across the street easy to park and walk to. We walked inside to a small cozy room with a colorful menu of 32 beers on tap. There were two customers when we arrived at 3:00. We walked around to see the beers on the shelves and in the cooler. I looked at the menu with the 32 beers and found Ride Share. Yay! It is on tap. We spoke with the owner who said he had the last keg and would sell us 32 ounce crowlers. Hubs placed his order and ordered two glasses for us at the bar. Tuesday is $5 beer all day. We hit the jackpot. When I checked in, YELP gave me a 15% discount on our purchase which was a nice surprise! Thank you to the owner and YELP. This is a nice, modern beer store and bar in Old Town Huntsville. I have to admit, upon entering and seeing the selection, I was pretty jealous that we don't have anything like this in Memphis. You can get a great selection of both local and country-wide beer offerings on tap. I was impressed to see some unique offerings from my old stomping grounds in both California and Maine. What I wasn't as impressed with was the prices of the draft selections. As I was just picking up beer to go, and was needing a little pick-me-up, I thought about getting some of the local kombucha on tap. A pint of kombucha was $6.50. That is the most expensive kombucha I've seen outside of Norway. Tap beer was similarly expensive. The bottle selections were much more reasonably priced and I went home with a bottle from Cascade in Portland, OR! read more

Just moved into town and found this spot on Yelp. Cool little taproom with a decent selection of beers. Bartender was super cool, helpful steering me through the different beers on tap, mostly ones I'd never heard of. They offer growlers and had some bottles for sale as well. Definitely worth a stop if your new to the area and like a good beer spot. Their taplist is synced with untapped too so you can tag yourself and your beer on their board. Minor gripe is that, coming from a fairly entry level craft beer fan, they didn't have a lot of choices for standard wheat, lager, or darker beers. What a sweet place. Yelp success!! I was running around Huntsville for work and wanted to pick up a local beer or two. I fired up my Yelp app, and Old Town Beer Exchange was the top hit. I called just to make sure that they sold local craft (because you never know what you'll find in Alabama), and the guy on the phone was super friendly. After he told me that they do, in fact sell craft beer, I said, "great! I'll see you in a minute." And he replied, "awesome, we'll see you soon." Being friendly = major life points. When I finally made my way to the shop, parking was much easier than I expected. Get directions from your Yelp app - NOT your GPS. It will lead you astray. & Slow down when you get close, it's a little hard to spot, because of the trees on the sidewalk, but it's in front of that big apartment building and there are metered spots across the street. Walking into OTBX, I was immediately excited. I'm new to the craft beer scene, and tend to get lost pretty easily in the beer section - ok, ok, mostly it's because I'm looking at all of the label art and not paying attention to what's actually in the bottles. It was around 2pm and there were a handful of people sitting at the bar. I was greeted with smiles and a "Hey! How's it going!?" I walked over to the Local section, everything is labeled so well that I didn't feel like I was wandering aimlessly at all. I looked at the shelves for a little while and then someone asked if I needed help. I wish I could remember his name because he's awesome. He was the guy I spoke with on the phone too. Friendly. Awesome. Winning staff at OTBX. He pointed me towards some coffee/chocolate stouts that I'm pretty excited to taste. They have a fantastic selection on tap. AND. They sell these wooden beer crates that look like they could hold a 6pack. Once you buy one for $20, everything you can fit in it is 10% off! Woot woot! I didn't pick one up, but I definitely will next time. I was sad I didn't have one on my way home. If you are anywhere near Huntsville, I highly suggest looking this place up. Literally only a stone's throw from Below the Radar stands one of my now-favorite downtown Huntsvegas hangouts: OTBX. I'm pretty new to craft beers (or beer in general because, well, wine) but what's fortunate is that EVERYBODY (who's anybody) in this town is all about local craft brews. What makes OTBX stand out to me are the extra miles they go to deliver a unique experience that embraces all levels of interest with a quiet confidence. 3 chalk-scored flights into my first sitting, the only thing I really missed was something to eat but there's sorta an implied BYOS (bring your own solids) policy and besides, I always said it was not far from BtR... you can call in an order. I'd probably never leave if they had an in-house kitchen though. But that's not a complaint. There are 32 selections on tap that range from piney and aromatic Gose to even grapefruit (Radler) and light to of course dark and stormy. I think the local micros are definitely worth exploring and typically if you ask, you can get a sample...or two. As stated, it's pet friendly but I really didn't notice much...after enough sampling and shop talk, everybody starts to seem the same degree of furry/friendly to me. This is my kinda establishment. Come in, sit and Sip a while, take a few fancies home. Hard to get much better. read more

This place was awesome. They have beer and cider selection from everywhere along the wall. Europe, Southern, East Coast, Atlantic West Coast and more which I found very interesting. The bar area is a little congested but they do offers tables. The place isn't very big but it has a "hanging out at a friends place" feel. People were also bringing their dogs and letting them hang out inside which I love because I love dogs but someone else may not. Overall, great place! Worth a visit. OTBX is the best bar in Huntsvill, period. I came to town for the first time with no connections or anything and this place quickly became my home base. Casey, justin, and tucker are all awesome people that I'm happy to now call friends. Each time I came in I met some new and hilarious people that I'd end up chatting with for hours. They keep the place super clean and comfortable, have outlets/USB ports at every seat at the bar, and the selection of beers is ridiculously large and all of it is awesome. Can't really ask for much more. I'm bummed that I have to head home and leave OTBX behind for now but will be coming back here ASAP. read more

I love OTBX in Huntsville! One of my fav stops for sure! You can purchase your brews to go (bottles) are you can sit and have some on draft. Respectable draft selection for the size of the establishment! They'll definitely have a style or styles that suit your fancy. ALSO, you can get a flight of 4 for a decent price depending on the cost of each brew individually. We were driving through and saw signs for this place. My husband is really into his Untapped app so we HAD to stop. We weren't disappointed. It was around noon on a weekday so we were pretty much the only ones there. The bartender was very helpful and friendly, making great suggestions for our beer flights. He even recommended a local distillery (Prichard) that we visited next and are in love with. The menus are great and show lots of details about the beer, including how much is left in each keg. We picked up a few unusual six packs to take with us as well. Definitely a must-stop for any beer lover! read more

Huntsville is so lucky to have OTBX! This pub is perfect to cater to Huntsville's recent growth boom. They have a cozy, casual and laid back atmosphere which makes anyone comfortable. While OTBX has a decent variety of beers, I find myself wanting a bit more options. Upon our last visit, they only had two sours available and tons of hoppier beers such as IPA's and Pale Ales. Old Town Beer Exchange is the newest addition to the "hopping" craft beer scene in Huntsville, Alabama. These folks have done it right. They have a large selection of craft beers on tap. While there are places with more beers on tap, a lot of them have 10 different IPAs. OTBX uses their taps more creatively. You'll certainly find IPAs, brown Ales, stouts, et cetera, you'll also find Grapefruit Radlers and exotic brews such as Ballast Points Indra Kunindra which contains cayenne, cumin, kaffir and coconut. Trust me, it works. I just bought a growler of it today. The staff is low key and knowledgeable on their product. They gladly give out free tastes if you're curious about a beer, but not ready to commit. Prices are well in line with similar pubs and brewery tap rooms. They have a limited selection of chilled beer in cans and bottles, and a larger selection of room temperature beers. They also have wines for those who are interested. There is seating at the bar for about 10-12, as well as four other tables which seat four. It's been full up the last three times I've been by. We talked to one of the owners last night and they are hoping to add sidewalk seating later this year. Since they are just inside the boundary for the Huntsville Arts and Entertainment district, this works well for those who like to stroll through downtown. It's a bit hard to spot the location if you are driving by. The small sign is blocked from street view by trees on both sides, so slow down and look closely. You'll know you're there when you see the multi-story condo building across from the large parking lot. You'll be glad you stopped in. read more

Cicerone certified experts will guide you through a free tasting of anything from their 32 taps. 2 nitro and 30 C02 taps feature a local-heavy rotation of both rare and common craft beers. Some of the taps have a small clay ornament hanging on them in the shape of the state of Alabama, those are brewed in the state and serve as a passive way to remind people that they can drink local beer. There are always 7 or 8 to choose from. Order food to be delivered from GrubSouth, BTR or a nearby Jimmy Johns or pizza place and bring your dogs, it's pet friendly. They have wine tastings every Monday night at 5:30 and a beer event every Thursday at 5:30. read more

Fortunately I could hide behind the NASA scientist and the engineer who were talking to some hipster musician. Nice mix folks there that's for sure. And yeah, it's a great place to beer...maybe THE place to buy it, but don't forget to take a peek at some of the wine hidden on the shelves. There's some crazy good bottles in there. So I was in Huntsville for a day, and wanted to pick up some local beers to take back to ye ol' man cave. As luck would have it I came across OTBE, which has to be one of the coolest craft beer stores I've run across. Sierra was great, she was welcoming and very knowledgeable about every beer on the menu. That's a welcome change from some bars where only one guy knows about the selection. The variety and ability to take home your favorites was nice. I can't speak to the variation of the selection over time, since I only visited once, but what was present seemed to Range a wide spectrum of types and brands.
