I've been Old Town Sarajevo's biggest fan since my first visit on 2012 - 12 years ago. I've brought friends and family here numeous times and recommended it to others. This restaurant has done no wrong. Until tonight. I haven't been in for quite a while. It is still adorably European and cute inside. We were greeted with a smile by a friendly server. There was only 1 other table with guests. The prices have gone up considerably since the last time I was here post-Covid. Everything has. But some of the items are 50% more expensive than they were. To be fair, the prices used to be VERY reasonable which was one of the reasons to love this place. We placed our order: Pileci sendvic, Bosanski lonac, spinach and cheese pita and cheese pita. The server asked me what bread I wanted with my stew-grilled or fresh baked. The pita was the first to arrive. Now, pita is the item I have had the most times, both eat in and take out, from here. It has always been a fluffy golden brown with melted cheese inside. These were dark, dark brown to almost black in places yet, at least for the spinach and cheese pita, parts were actually cool to the touch and the cheese was not melted in either pita. Neither one was hot. The Pileci Sendvic and the Bosanski Lonac were good, but not as rapturously good as in the past. The server finally came to refill our waters when we each had about 1 bite left. When she returned with the water I asked for a takeout box because I would take the pita home and heat it properly. At this time we were the only 2 customers in the restaurant. Ten minutes later she still had not returned with the box so I walked around the corner to the counter where she was deep in conversation with a colleague and asked for the box. She brought it a few minutes later and cleared our plates. Clearly we were done. We waited some more then had to ask for our bill (maybe that is a European thing, though). When we got the bill, the Pilec Sendvic which was priced at $12.99 on the menu was $13.99 on the bill. The bread, which she had not mentioned was extra, was $1.50. I know, not much, but - please be upfront with your pricing. We did pay it without remarking. After improperly prepared pitas, disappointing service (again, we were the only people in the place for 90% of our meal), and inaccurate pricing we walked out with a slightly bad taste in our mouths after 12 years of fabulousness. read more

I drove an hour to try this place out, and I'll do it again because the food was that good. I tried the cevapi and it was delicious, and despite the dish consisting of sausage and bread it didn't leave me feeling overly full or greasy. I had the Bosnian coffee as well and it was stronger than I've had at other places, which is good in my book! The interior of this place is cool and the staff were very friendly. Hands down the best Bosnian restaurant I have ever been to. We came a little over an hour before closing and received spectacular service regardless. The food was absolutely amazing-- the bread was so fresh it was as if they put it in the oven just for our order! It was so fragrant and you could smell the delicious combinations of meats and breads upon entry. The sauce tasted house-made. The apple pastry was spectacular and not too heavy. The menu is straight and to the point. There aren't a book's worth of options, which is always is a good sign that they make all of their food fresh to order. The atmosphere is great and the decor is super cute. Additionally, the food is halal, which is always a bonus for those with certain dietary preferences! My first visit in perhaps two years, and it could be my last. I have been going here since it opened and have always enjoyed the food and atmosphere especially since the expansion and redesign of the dinning room. We were seated quickly but getting water was nearly impossible. It finally came in little plastic bottles. It was my birthday and we arrived at 3:30 PM on a Saturday. The menu seemed to have major errors in that they list beer and alcohol but have none. The burek is listed as pita but with the correct description. We ordered two kinds of burek, a five and ten ($15) piece ćevapi and a gulas (stewed beef over potatoes). The ćevapi were small and overcooked. The beef gulas fatty but tender. The beef burek was dry overcooked and not fully filled mostly dry phyllo. The lovely server talked us into dessert when we ordered coffee. We should not have bothered. The pastry sheet on the krempita was tough and the filling ordinary. The baklava was sopping mostly wet dough with nuts hard to find. I don't know what has happened here, but it is not good. There are better choices for Bosnian food in the west valley. read more

Four of us came for lunch today and three of us had never been there before. WHAT A TREAT! We took a table back in the corner where we might not disturb anyone, but there weren't many there today. I hope more people come to taste their amazing foods...I think we will all be going back. I had the Spicy Cevape, and it was SO delicious! I tasted the goulash which my friend had, and would love that too. and the red pepper dip is not to be missed, either. I have a feeling I will grow to love many dishes when I return. While the parking lot and actual strip mall this restaurant's in is a bit shabby, once you walk into Old Town Sarajevo you are transported into a quaint, rustic Eastern European village. I loved the little touches they put into the decor to make you feel like you were eating like a local in Bosnia. The menu focuses on a lot of meat and starchy items, very hearty, stick-to-your-ribs type of food. I asked our server what he would recommend if we were dining here for the first time and he suggested the cevapi/Bosnian sausages and cabbage rolls. We decided to get one of each, and I got an additional side of Bosnian bread (Lepinja). Our orders looked delicious when they came out, especially the lepinja. It was my favorite part of the meal. It was a soft, pillowy flat bread that had a lightly crisp outer coating. It was kind of like Indian naan but on steroids. Delicious, doughy steroids. Oh it was so good I could eat a ton of it just by itself! I told our server I loved the bread and he proudly replied that it has won a lot of awards and people will come to the restaurant just to buy a bunch of it. I totally believe that! The cabbage rolls came three to an order, and had a small dollop of sour cream on top. The ground meat filling was tender, well seasoned, and the cabbage leaves were rolled nicely around it. I wasn't a fan of the sauce though, which was too acidic tasting for my tastes. I loved the cevapi sausages. They had a lovely grilled flavor and were very juicy and plentiful in the lepinja bread they were encased in. I do not travel outside the USA anymore so I appreciate restaurants who bring a cultural vibe to me here in Phoenix. This joint feels like a cafe where interesting people eat and talk and enjoy life. Cabbage Rolls - really tasty, full flavor, moist filling and soft cabbage wrapped around it. We did not detect saltiness as others referenced - these rolls were delightfully old school. Such a nice and comforting meal. My daughter had the gulas (goulash) which was amazing. The cevape was wonderful and was served with onions, ajvar, and a type of sour cream. The sis cevape was also great and not too spicy. They made a chicken breast for my picky son and he said it was the best chicken he has ever had. Visit beautiful Phoenix, Arizona! Here you will enjoy the warmth of the desert, the scenery of the mountains, the eclectic population, and the fantastic... Bosnian/Herzegovinian cuisine? Am I reading that right?? Yes. Yes you are. This was an incredible little jewel to find nestled in the suburbs of Phoenix. Trust me, though, it is well worth it. It sits in a strip mall very quietly and almost hidden. There is no fanfare or gimmick, it's just a cafe serving up some eastern incredible food. After reading other recommendations, I tried the cabbage rolls, which was served in a broth. It's listed under the soup menu, in fact. These... were... incredible. The rolls themselves were delicious, and the flavors and textures were spot on, but the broth stole the show! It was savory beyond reason, and it really warms the soul. Ask for a spoon, trust me on this. I had the sausage (small) for an entree, though I think it was designed as an app. Whatever, I ate it, and it was also incredible. The bread was some combination of bread and cheese, so it had a wonderful texture to it. The sides of diced onion, sour cream, and a roasted red pepper mix were all complimentary in the best ways. I only wish I had a larger stomach and could try everything. The food was incredible, and the service was great. My server stopped by frequently to clear plates and check that everything was okay. You're not going to find real silver utensils or cloth napkins here, but you know what? I'm more than okay with that. The price is very reasonable, and if it helps to keep costs down, then do what you gotta do, so long as the food stays this good. If I'm ever in Phoenix again, you can believe I'm stopping on by! My husband was introduced to this place a few years ago by a coworker. It's about 30 min from us, but we still get here often to enjoy their Bosnian Cuisine. We are always craving the Cevapi that they have. The bread is sweet and fluffy, the sausages are super good, and I'm a huge fan of their red sauce. Their cabbage rolls are also one of our favorites. I've tried so much from their menu, I can't even list all of it! But it's all super good!!! You really can't go wrong! This place has an authentic Bosnian feel, as it is decorated as a cafe sitting along the Bosnian streets. The owners def know their stuff on creating an environment that looks, feels, sounds, and tastes like you're half way across the globe! We got to go tonight for our "shop local" night, and it took about 15 min for my order to be ready after I ordered! All went smooth. They are closing earlier because of the pandemic, but def give them a try! I am giving this 4 stars because although we LOVE this place, there is a male staff member that we actively try to avoid (we can't right now, because it's to go only). He is usually not a cheerful guy, and although I am NOT a picky patron, he always makes me feel like I'm asking too much. The other staff are all super sweet and helpful. read more

I checked out this place for the International Supper Club UYE. I love checking out food from around the world, in the US and in it's native land. So, this was cool. I've never been to Bosnia. I wondered what the food could be like because Bosnia is a literally cultural melting pot with Mediterranean, European and Middle Eastern influences. I was eager to give it a try and see if any of those 3 cultures dominated the influence on the food. You might drive past the tiny shopping plaza in which this restaurant is located. Why you ask? Because it is about as nondescript as a traffic light, except you pay attention to the traffic light. It's also a rather run down plaza and is not attractive. No worries, pull in to that parking lot and yeah, you'll look around like, "where is Ursula sending me.....?????" Seriously, go inside. You'll quickly realize that you've escaped the ho' hum and entered eastern Europe. The inside of that restaurant is so neatly decorated, you feel like you're in eastern Europe. Fortunately, I was with a great group of yelpers. I teamed up with Preston S to split our entrees. He ordered the Pljeskavica and I ordered the Cevapi. Both of these items are served on the tastiest, flakiest, buttery pastry type bread I've had in quite some time. The Pljeskavica was a 4-star item with a the beef patty, mushrooms and cheese on that flaky pastry-like bun. I would order this item again! The Cevapi was somewhat like a kabob, but really reminded me of Jimmy Dean Breakfast sausages in appearance. But NOT in taste. These small sausages are made of beef and lamb and are seasoned with Bosnian spices. This was a 3-star item for me. If I ever get back over there, I MUST try the burek. I have a feeling that I will enjoy that immensely! Unfortunately, any place that serves dinner, but not wine generally gets a one-star-off from me. This could have been a 4-star review from me! I wonder if you can do a BYOB. I have to keep in mind that no booze could be a religious choice as well. so I'm giving them a 3.5 instead of taking the whole 1 star. When you step into this quaint restaurant it appears that you truly are stepping into a small Bosnian town complete with Bosnian Natives. You see doorways and Bosnian artifacts. It's sort of like Disney Land. The menu is very meat and bread heavy so you have to plan for that. I had a chicken sandwich made with their house made bread. The bread was unlike any bread I had before and had a similar texture to a fluffy glazed donut and was tasty but a little greasy. My chicken was pounded very thin but was tender, juicy and seasoned well. I had added mushrooms and ajvar (roasted red pepper and eggplant condiment) to my sandwich. The ajvar seemed fresh made and was very mild. They gave me a generous amount of mushrooms that lacked caramelization. The sandwich was tasty but is a lot of bread so I ate it open faced so I wouldn't eat too much bread. My husband had a cup of bean soup that was very porky and the popular spicy beef sausage sandwich. The sausage is skinless and is spicy but not very spicy. Since it was our first time here our waitress wouldn't let us leave without trying a Bosnian Candy. She gave us a chocolate covered candy that looked like a banana. It tasted like a banana flavored circus peanut that was chocolate covered. Among the most interesting restaurants to try because it was like a trip to Bosnia. read more

A really interesting cultural experience that would be lost on most people driving by. It is tiny and drab outside. Who knew? Thanks, Yelp, and thanks Max A for making me laugh and want to try this place. Walking in the door you will find yourself transported to another world. Authentic music, cute European décor, and a Bosnian hostess/waitress/owner who will bend over backwards to make sure you are pleased. Bosnian cuisine appears to be a blending of Eastern European and Middle Eastern culture (as is their music). The items on this small menu were mostly simple fare, like simple hearty soups, sausage sandwiches, and chicken dishes. First of all, I command you to eat the bread that comes with your meal. It is probably one of the finest, freshest, lightest, butteriest you could ever hope to sink your teeth into. It is similar in texture to a beautifully executed croissant. A bowl of soup with a basket of that bread (well maybe two baskets) and I could die with a smile on my face. The bowl of soup we had was a hearty bean soup, with large chunks of meat, most likely the sausage they use in their sandwiches. Yum. I would love to try them all. $5 a bowl. The sandwich, cevapi, is huge, with a multitude of little rolled sausages (seasoned beef + lamb) in the middle of that wonderful bread. It came with raw onion, sour cream and a red bell pepper sauce on the side. It is one heck of a sandwich. You might want to share! $8 gets you the large one. The cabbage rolls were uncommonly good. Filled with seasoned meat and rice, then rolled in cabbage leaves, a serving consisted of three, baked in a light yet tangy sauce that appeared to have some vinegar and paprika. Very flavorful, very filling. The dish was accompanied with a side of excellent mashed potatoes topped with sour cream. $5 Mr. B could not take his eyes off the little deli case. Filled with tubes of imported sausages, some fresh, some dry, and most importantly, darkly smoked steaks. We asked about tasting the smoked meat, and she brought us a small plate with some very thin slices to taste. Really beautiful, tender but firm meat like a lovely prosciutto, a charcuterie's dream. We had to have some to bring home. A pound cost us $16 and was already shrink wrapped. But what will I do when we run out? And here is where I must stop. Only because they had just finished making a fresh batch of baklava and it was way too hot to cut yet. She apologized profusely. I was broken hearted. Not that I really needed it but..... Fantastic pljeskavica! Came here looking for Serbian style hamburgers and this little restaurant did not disappoint. It's easy to drive past this place without really noticing it. You almost have to know it's there. The interior of the location has lots of neat artwork and wooden decor. It's extremely cozy. If you're looking for a fun place to hang out with friends or someone special, come here. I started off with a Serbian import beer (Jelen) which was fantastic. I was happy to find out they had import beers, they also had one from Croatia and another from I think Bosnia. read more

We love the food and in all honesty we try to get something different but no matter what both my wife and I and our three kids love just about everything that they make it is very delicious and very authentic.
