This morning I was craving breakfast so I decided to go to Old Town Waffles for the first time. The restaurant had a good aroma and a friendly staff, but the food was terrible. The hash browns were nothing but mush and grease, the waffle was similar to a hotel waffle press, and my bacon completely black. My friend's meal were also terrible. After leaving I was so pissed off I spent money there, for the price I would much rather go to Denny's. It was extremely over priced and 100% NOT WORTH THE PRICE !!!! On my first visit I ordered the Clovis City Salad. It was basically a grilled chicken salad. While the menu states mixed greens, it looked like iceberg with a bit of romaine. The chicken was cooked a bit much for my liking and was a bit tough to cut and chew. The basalmic dressing was good and the salad was garnished with strawberry slices. It also included pecans, although not much and they were in tiny pieces. I think there may have been a bit of bacon, too. The price seemed a bit high. My server was both friendly and attentive. I was there during the lunch hour and it wasn't busy st all. Yesterday was my second lunch visit. I ordered a senior ham and cheese omelette, no bread or potatoes. My server offered fruit as a side. They were much busier today as there was a big group in the back room. When my food arrived, the omelette was a veggie one-loaded with onions, bell peppers and mushrooms. I despise bell peppers. So I ate the top layer egg part of the omelette and a bit of the fruit. When the server brought by my tag, she noticed the omelette. Immediately she said that was supposed to be ham and cheese. She offered to remake it but my lunch was about over, so I declined. She offered an omelette to go, but I said I was fine. When I went to pay, the omelette had been removed from my bill. What was going to be a two star review based on my two visits this week became a four star review. My server went out of her way to fix the cook's error and she was so sincere. I would have been inclined to just not visit there again, but I will be going back the next time I'm hungry for a ham and cheese omelette. read more

The food at the restaurant has changed so much over time. Portions seem to be much smaller and not as tasty! The new owners are not welcoming and really don't feel that family vibe that was there before. Not to mention, the staff seem to have changed as well; they can't even stop having conversations anymore; they seem to be under a lot of stress. TLDR: Racist workers won't serve you if you're not white. We used to go here all the time. A family favorite, if you will. But this restaurant is not what it used to be. Now the workers are racist, and historically inaccurate. TWO people who got here after us got their food before us, no big deal. Best eggs Benedict I've had, specifically the chorizo special. The country potatoes and hash browns were great as well. Even the side of fruit was so good I wondered where they source their produce. Conclusion: should have listened to the other reviewers. Ordered chicken and waffles but served a single waffle and 3 Chicken tenders so rough they scratch up the roof of your mouth. Ordered country fries, got regular fries. Chicken sandwich tastes like rubber without the seasoning. The place looks outdated and thrown together with no sense. The place needs an interior designer and a manager that cares. The girls working here all seem nice and friendly . That's the only positive. But business will be slow with badly prepared food. Im always looking for a breakfast spot that fast and convenient i always drive by but never stop due to how busy there parking lot looks i decided to finally stop by on a Saturday and it wasn't too busy yet i always order to go because usually I'm running errands and have no time to wait the lady at the register took my order i got the Denver Omelette it came with potatoes and toast and they where fast i expected to wait at least 20 minutes but was in and out in less than that! The food is so so. Sausages were soooo salty. Waffles were great. Hash browns super greasy. The main issue with this place is that it is so disorganized and it takes forever to get your food. Three different servers came to take our drink orders. I don't know if they just randomly pick tables to serve or what. After ordering our food, it took 40 minutes to get our food and all we ordered were the typical breakfast fair of waffles, sausages, eggs, and hash browns. My husband asked for jelly for his toast and the server never brought it. It took us over an hour and a half to get out of there, which is ridiculous for a breakfast joint. read more

So, we've been coming here for a few years and in the past, it was lackluster. Now with the new owners, who bought it during the pandemic, they have really come along. I was so hopeful this would be our new breakfast place. It turned out not to be. I always order biscuits and gravy the first time I try a new breakfast place. If they get that right, then usually most everything else works also. These are without doubt the worst in Fresno. The biscuit was like a hard rock and the gravy was way under par. I will say that the hash browns were delicious! That really was the only saving grace for this breakfast. The price is very high - I paid 22 bucks for breakfast. I agree with another review about this being a place that specializes in waffles. Our waffles arrived not hot, so the "butter" didn't budge from it's original size. I refuse to eat Fake butter and so I asked the server for some real butter. She said it was real butter? I questioned her on it because there was no melting whatsoever. I removed it from my coolish waffle. Then this place charges .99 extra of you want a HALF waffle in place of toast or biscuit and gravy. Really? Half of a waffle costs more than the other included choices? They need to rethink their waffles and butter. Berry medley waffle was delicious! It's an old establishment, but you can tell everyone in there has been there before. The staff recognized multiple parties that came in which was a nice family feeling. Our waitress was very nice, called my boyfriend honey bun Lol. Reasonably priced. We only went there because my car was being worked on at the Firestone down the street, but it was a good time killer. But might go again if I'm in that area around breakfast time. The waitress was super sweet and took great care of us. She had a charming accent but was clearly understandable and made some small talk, which was very nice! The new owners apparently had a cleaning crew go through the dining room.... buh-bye, dust bunnies! The menus are better -- and much more accurate! Best of all, the food was good. We were excited to finally try this place. I love a good waffle. Initially I was pleased with the decor and kind service but I must say I was disappointed in my waffle. For the price it seemed a bit small and it was soggy on the bottom. I prefer my waffles crispy. I had a bite of my husbands hash browns and although they had a good flavor they were almost dripping with oil. There were a few good old boys there so obviously it's a great place for the locals. I used to love coming here, good service and good food, there was this waitress who was very sweet and very caring and she called everyone "honey bunny". She made the experience coming to the old town waffle an even better place. However on my most recent visit this place is an utter disappointment. I came in and was greeted by this young waitress and I was sat down on the booth area behind the kitchen. After that the waitress who sat us down gave us the menu, she did not even ask if she could us get drinks, normally at other breakfast places, this would be the first thing any waitress would have done. I should have known this was a bad sign. Things got worse from then on. We waited 10 minutes before we were greeted by our waitress again. She did not even apologize for the delay and went right away to say good morning and asked for drinks, I mean we acted cool, but we were not cool of course. We were hungry and we had to wait 10 minutes just to be served. After we placed our order, it took them 20 minutes to bring the food out, which is very long for a breakfast place. Did they bring the both plates for me and my guest together ? NO, it came 10 minutes delay in between each other, which is an utter inconvenience, because right now my guest finished first and I was still waiting hungrily for my food. The reason I gave this place 1 star is not only because of the bad service and the old and dingy looking place. But the food itself was not good. My plate was very messy and not very appetizing in its look, I ordered the huevos rancheros by the way, and my friend ordered the omelet with some green sauce from the Mexican menu. Man both food was bad. Having never patronized this long-time Clovis establishment, I had high hopes - if a business has been around for years, it must be pretty good, right? Everything was...eh. Country potatoes were bland and pale (I like at least a but of crispy crust) and the biscuits and gravy were denser and smaller than one would expect from a restaurant specializing in breakfast. My California omelet was decent - loads of bacon, topped with perfectly ripe avocado - but eggs are an art and it wasn't as fluffy as a good omelet should be, plus it could've used more cheese. Service was off and on - a long wait to place our order, no refills, a long wait to get our food, but the server did check on us. First time here and waited in the little lobby for about 5-10 minutes after signing up on the paper sign up sheet. The waiters were very nice and thoughtful and our wait for the food wasn't too long. It got busier after we sat down but we're still checked up on by our waiter who was super kind and helpful. We got waffle combo and one of the sandwiches. The waffle was one of the best waffles I've ever had, very light and fluffy, delicious, and fulfilling. Me and my partner finished it in three minutes together. The sandwich was ok, both me and my partner honestly didn't like it and could probably compare it to a sandwich you could make yourself at home or even buy a premise sandwich at a local supermarket and it would be cheaper and the same. The sides were delicious, the curly fries were crispy and the sausage links were good. The potatoes were also really good we just got very full very fast from it. Ok so the food, was just ok, got the chicken friend steak. IT was on the small side but it didn't taste half bad. The gravy was not as thick as I prefer. (I walked past that booth to go to the restroom and even 4 young very skinny adults were complaining and asked to be moved) Server was polite and good service. They offered several types of waffle fillings, flavors and toppings for your waffles. The only style of waffle offered is Belgian waffle. This restaurant should in no way be confused with the Waffle House! The Old Town Waffle Shop signage boasts that they are under new ownership. We stopped in on Sunday for brunch. While we were not blown away, we did enjoy our meal. It's an older establishment that has changed hands several times. The interior is showing its age, but seems to be in relatively good repair. Besides our delicious waffles we ordered other food items and were underwhelmed. Eggs Benedict decent, hash-browns flavorless, bacon high quality and cooked well, eggs decent, fruit cup flavorless, and kids menu is a little to be desired. My daughter was served a giant grilled cheese sandwich on a hot plate and the same cup of fruit salad that was on my husbands plate. So stick to the waffles at this place and you'll be happy. Oh and skip the coffee because the iced tea is much better! Oh and our service was superb! read more
