So I was intrigued by the fact that they claim to do charcoal BBQ at this place and I didn't remember that being the case so I had to check it out. This is a fact my friend! They put mesquite-like coals over the gas flame and lower the fancy vent hood right over the coals until they are ready to cook on. The meat was tasty and so were the banchan. I'm not going to say this is the best for all Korean food but it is great for BBQ. I am impressed by the remodel which was done a few years ago. Dark walls, nice booths and very clean. I think this is my new go to place for BBQ or at least one of them. This is probably the best place to bring your non-korean friends to introduce them to Korean food. One by one we arrived in search of good barbecue and good conversation. I knew some of the attendees from previous events so I could easily count on the latter. But with the gorgeously uncharacteristic sunshine for this time of year, I was crossing my fingers for the former. Quick thanks to Maritess for planning the event and her reservation-making skills. Our table for fifteen was ready and once everyone arrived, the ordering began. We split into two groups for ease of ordering and paying afterward. Our side chose two orders of beef kalbi, one order of spicy pork and a single haemul pajeon (seafood pancake) to share. Our server reached under the table to ignite our charcoal grill which quickly sparked to life then with a flip of a motorized dangling switch, lowered a silver industrial exhaust vent to spirit away the smokiness. Mmm sweet edible carcinogens! I have been to other Korean BBQ places where the ventilation was less than ideal. The moment I returned home, I wanted to wash my hair and clothing which seemed to soak up the smells like a parched sponge. I can happily report that I didn't feel that way after leaving OVKR. We received a family style platter of Romaine lettuce salad with thin slivers of green onion tossed in a delicate sweet vinaigrette that easily moved between sweet and spicy. The next items to arrive were bowls of perfectly steamed sticky rice, small saucers of various banchan and our pre-sliced seafood pancake. I had a slice and a half of the tasty pancake, crisp without being too crunchy and with shrimp, squid and green onions in the portions I ate. The grill was red-hot when our tray of raw marinated beef and pork arrived with tongs. The meat deftly snipped by scissors into manageable pieces by our server. There was also a thick onion slice and a single mushroom. Personally I would have liked more of the vegetables but that's a personal preference. Two people in our mini-group opted to forgo the barbecue in lieu of splitting a bibimbap and another dish served in a stone bowl. The latter of which I cannot recall its name and by appearance alone would have certainly scalded one's mouth if not left to cool! Both of them looked delectable and were finished completely with positive reports on both. Our buzzer for service was located on one of the centre pillars in the room, we couldn't find it at first. Sometimes I think all restaurants would benefit from this sort of communication system and it would cut down on trying to wave down your server if they aren't paying attention. One buzz and they know exactly where to go! As we continued to grill our meat, the tasty banchan continued from the kitchen with some differences on the second round. We only enjoyed two rounds so I can't comment whether or not it's bottomless. Additional bowls of rice were brought to our table and she refilled our water and tea without the buzzer. Overall, I would definitely return here with friends. The cost might be a little pricey for frequent barbecue cravings. If you order judiciously though, you'll end up with a bill similar to ours - $21.00 per person inclusive of tax + tip. Peter L. mentioned that he had eaten there off and on since the mid-nineties. Their former décor was differently styled with wooden benches keeping with their namesake. The charcoal grills make all the difference in the quality of the bbq. Great meat and banchan. Definitely take the time to cook your own food, though, because that's what makes this type of dining experience fun. Just another HONEST review. The Beginning: So I've been coming here with my parents since I was like six years old, I've seen changes in staff, chefs, and also the remodeling of restaurant. I came here the other day to grab some Korean grub with my girlfriend because you know... I'm old enough? And I was rudely shouted at, "How MANNNNY?" by some middle aged woman. I told her there are two people, in our native language. I was seated with two large menus in on the long strip that is laid across the middle of the restaurant. The Middle: Besides us, there were seven other tables occupied by customers. Four servers, who are either cleaning the SAME table, sitting behind the counter TEXTING, or helping the SAME customer with their order, did not even bother to bring us tea or water. The middle aged woman came back asking if we were ready and we placed our orders. I asked her nicely if it was possible to get some tea and she left without replying. I assumed her was bringing us our water. Another 10 minutes pass and slowly more people came. Our water nor our server was to be seen. I had to stand up and ask a young high school student for a cup. When our food finally came, the woman said, "Oh, you never got your side dishes!" Yes, we did not. She ran to get some to accompany our meal. The End: During the whole 35 minutes of our meal we were never asked if we needed anything, see if everything was alright, or we need MORE TEA. Our soups both luke-warm and our sides almost empty, I asked the woman for my FIRST refill of tea. She gave me a pitcher. Wow. Conclusion: All in all good food. Service was terrible. This restaurant has those buttons that you can call to get your servers attention, but my table had none. I guess I should of asked for one, but if I can't even get a cup of tea, what makes you think I can get the button. HA. This was my first real experience with authentic Korean bbq, and I have to say, I'm impressed. I love all sorts of Asian food and I'm a bit of a picky eater, and Old Village satisfied all my cravings. The prices are a little high, but you do get plenty of food. My friend and I got the spicy pork and the bulgogi, about $19 each. There was plenty of meat - we even had some pork left over, but not quite enough to take home - and it came with a giant green salad, rice and plenty of banchan. Kimchi, bean sprouts, daikon, etc, etc. We cooked our meat over the charcoal at our table, and that was definitely an experience. The meat quality was good, although the pork was a little fattier than I like it, and everything was just delicious. One star down for the service... I was both confused and amused. A couple of the servers came by at first to flip our meat for us, and disappeared halfway through the meal. Nobody ever came by to refill our water glasses, and when we're eating that much salty food, we're thirsty! And the server consistently handed the tongs, the check AND both of our credit cards once the bill was paid to my friend and ignored me. I wasn't offended, more amused. I have heard about this place for awhile now and had the chance to try it over the weekend. I thought it's cool how they use charcoal grills and has good ventilation. The grill did make it hard at times to cook the meat, since the flames would get huge when fat would drip on it. Old Village does seem a little pricey for korean BBQ but the quality of the meat was good. My bf and I had pork belly and bulgogi and the cuts of the meat were just right. We also split a bowl of the assorted spicy cold noodle that had cucumber, radish, pear, boiled egg, skate sashimi and slices of beef brisket. I really enjoyed the noodles, even though the sashimi was not what I expected. The banchan seemed fine and generous. The only negative I can think of with the place is the service. I got a weird vibe from our server when she asked for our order and just said "oh." and walked away disappointed. Food: meat was fresh and high quality and was cooked perfectly , the sides were authentic, and beer was cold. The ambiance was on point! The staff was impressive. The lady that helped cook our meat was lovely and charming, like a super nice Auntie cooking for you. It was a great experience. *Note* they DO NOT charge for rice if you are ordering BBQ. But you have to ASK them for rice, I think they do that just to conserve and prevent waste. My husband went during happy hour (11AM-3PM Monday-Friday) and we ordered 1x bulgogi and 1x marinated galbi. We also ordered the skate sashimi appetizer from the HH menu. Total was only about $50 without tip for two adults. We had a small box of leftovers as well. The skate sashimi with pear in cold noodle was yummy. I enjoyed it even if it is was 80% noodles. I'm glad they serve Skate fish though. Hae Nam across the street just uses tilapia. The marinated galbi and bulgogi ($20 each on HH) was AMAZING. The quality of the meat...honestly it's the best meat I've ever eaten!!! It's the melt in your mouth, silky texture that will keep me coming back over and over. Charcoal grill Korean BBQ? Get outta here! The chargoal grill (vs the usual propane stuff) makes a BIG difference. Food Consumed: Bulgogi, Galbi, Pork Bacon, Seafood green onion 'pie/pancacke', tofu kimchee soup, OB beer, SOJU! ALL good. The meat is wonderfully marinated, the charcoal grill makes a huGe difference in the flavor, and the seafood green onion pie comes out early so you don't die of starvation and jealousy smelling the other patrons' grills. I thought the service was good - they're asian, so I mean, don't expect a warm hug welcome (I can say this cause I'm asian) but I thought they were friendly, hospitable, and efficient. She checked up on us a lot and helped us bbq meat now and then. (I like doing it myself) Korean BBQ in general is pricey, but I don't eat it often and with a good group of friends, i think it's super worth it with those cravings arise. This place gets pretty packed on the weekends. I would say the atmosphere is good for the younger crowd because they have loud hip pop music playing. The charcoal BBQ does give the meats a really nice flavor. I would highly recommend getting the boneless marinated galbi. It's very tender and flavorful. Entrees for the Korean BBQ range from $19-$33. So it is on the pricier side and doesn't come with a lot of meat. You do grill and cut the meat yourself so don't be expected someone to serve you or check on you. The good, the bad and the ugly! Foods were quite good but it used to be better. Cleanliness wise, it was decent. The bad part: Expensive for what you get. The ugly: Well... service is terrible, and lack of it. On a slow weeknight, there were two or three tables and two wait staffs. You would think the service would be ok with that ratio. I came here on two different occasions and had two very different experiences. The first time I came, it was with the bf on a weeknight. We had a pleasant meal and our waitress was super nice and attentive. We ordered kalbi, samgyupsal (Korean bacon), and japchae as an appetizer. The side dishes were pretty good and with two portions of meat, you get a free soybean paste stew. I came a few weeks later with my parents...I was excited to show my parents a decent KBBQ restaurant NOT in Federal Way or Lynnwood. Well, perhaps we went on a bad day because service was not good. Our waitress forgot to bring rice, meat dipping sauces, and my drink. I thought the food was fine but at this point, my mom was irked and criticized everything from the meat quality, to the saltiness of the soup, and how they don't give you lettuce leaves to wrap your meat in (most KBBQ joints give this to you). It didn't help that the KBBQ (if you're grilling on the stove top) price is steep. I think it was like $20 per strip of kalbi, which in my opinion, is expensive. I'm torn because while I've had much better KBBQ elsewhere, I thought it was decent. I would give Old Village 3.5 stars because the service is inconsistent and the priciness for the portion size. Absolutely love this Korean place, why didn't I know about this place sooner. I was looking for a place to celebrate VDay with my roommate, LOL. I used to just go to other several Korean places around for soft tofu soup for my Korean food crave at late night. After seeing this place to be the only choral bbq place in Seattle, cant wait to give it a try. We ordered the fish egg soft tofu soup, my all time favorite, then the pork belly bbq and beef tongue bbq. the bbq order came with a portion of salad for two and it was fresh and tasty. The fish egg soft tofu soup was not too spicy nor tasteless. However I do find something different with the fish egg, it seems like it has more fishy taste than the ones I ate before. And I absolutely love this!!! When the bbq plates came, I was thinking, gosh, such a small portion that we might need to order some more but turned out I was wrong. The pork belly were sooooo juicy, the fat and meat were just right. Just have to make sure that you don't leave it at the very hot, the burning spot in the middle of the choral, because the pork will get burnt easily and became chewy. The beef tongue were the same, super tender and juicy. Both meat were fresh and more than two Asian girls could handle along with the fish egg soft tofu soup. I would definitely come here again, but with more friends, because I would like to try more items on the menu. This is hands down one of the better Korean BBQ places I've been to. I have been to numerous Korean BBQ establishments in Hawaii, the West Coast, and Korea (the country). It's a rather jam packed establishment where you could be sitting in a booth with your party (BBQ time) or if you just so happen to be eating ala carte then you could end up sitting next to a few strangers, or as I like to call them "Friends who just don't know you yet." Take the time to look over the menu for what you'd like to eat. Can't go wrong, but always take a look to try something new. That said, my favorite go to is always the Kim Chee Pizza (Pancake everywhere else), or the BBQ pork and tofu. Been reading up how fermented foods help maintain a healthy gut. This led to a craving for kimchi, which led to a craving for different banchan, which, of course, led to a craving for bibimbap. My search for Korean food led me to Old Village Korean Restaurant. Mandoo - A must have for the little ones in our group. It was okay. Skin was a little chewy even though it was fried and filling could have been more flavorful. Banchan - They served the requisite kimchi but I was looking for more fermented/pickled banchan which wasn't served to our group. Kimchi hit the spot with it's spice level, though I have had better. I can't remember what the other 7 were, none of the banchan were particular memorable. Stone Pot Bibimbap - Somehow I felt like the veggies were soaked in extra salty water as they came out a little on the too salty side. Meat was kind of a strange pulled beef type addition that was unexpected and mediocre. The best part was the extra crispy rice on the bottom, which was a saving grace. Service was very pleasant and we had a good time with two moms and two toddlers, but the other Korean restaurants nearby have to be really bad, expensive or dirty for us to return to this one. I just ate here last night, I brought 2 korean friends here that are doing OJT here in seattle. This was my first time eating at a korean restaurant/eating korean food. The experience was great, I had a wonderful time. The service was very good, the servers were fast and very accomodating. The place is nice and clean. I guess it helps a lot when you have koreans with you. =) We had Bul go gi, some octopus dish with spicy sauce(I forgot the name), tons of side dishes and they ordered some bibim bap for me, which were all very good and of course, some soju! I asked my korean friends if the food was good, they said "yes" and that it taste exactly the same in korea. I ate too much that night, the amount of food was something that I wasn't expecting. I should mention first that this is my first time ever going to a Korean grill restaurant. Went in at a time where it wasn't busy, so my companion and I were seated immediately. The place inside looks much bigger than what it looks from outside of it, and I like the overall atmosphere even if their background music might come off as a little loud to others. Service was quick and pretty good, but that may be contributing to the fact that my companion and I were the only ones currently dining in at the time. We ordered K-9 (which is bulgogi) and K-4 (which is pork, I forgot which type specifically) from the Korean BBQ selection, as well as bibimbap, and finally soju for my partner. All of it tasted pretty good! The food isn't necessarily a stand out, but it was very much tasty and satiating. If there is a con I could think of during my visit, it's that the one hostess on shift was also the only waitress and server attending to me and others who came in to dine. Good - Yuri, one of the servers, was just about the only service that was at least decent. - Cold buckwheat noodle was decent. Not bad. KBBQ on a charcoal grill is pretty much heaven. I stopped here for dinner with the BF after the gym since it seemed like the perfect healthy but hearty meal. We decided to go for the pork belly and the thin beef brisket which were about $18 each for very generous portions. I can't stop raving about the awesome quality of meat here!! It was so fresh and fantastic, I think it's the best quality KBBQ I've ever had in the states. Side dishes were also on point, as well as the salad. It took me forever to order as I was a true newb and the female wait staff weren't to friendly. The guy was awesome though and he helped me a lot. I ordered the seafood pancake (which is listed as pizza on the menu FYI) based on recommendations. It's huge and I felt like a total pig when they set it in front of me. Oink aside, this invention is award worthy. I ate two pieces it wasso good. I also ordered some claupot thing with rice, noodles, mushrooms and other stuff. It was great. They give you a ton of sides as well. Not sure who ears all this food!!! Overall I give this place 3 stars because the food was awesome bit the female staff kind of suck. I sat at that bigass table in the middle by myself and try didn't refill my water ever and it took them a decade to bring me a check or Togo box. Not cool. Ooookay. I now understand why this place might have low(er) reviews. Don't ever come on a busy evening (weekends). They had five waiters/waitresses the night we went and could not make sense of the wait list. They would forget to cross some people off when they had already seated them. They weren't utilizing the non-bbq tables very efficiently...they could have easily sat four more people down in that area. Also...the wait was soooooo long because no one cleaned any of the tables! At one point there were four tables that needed to be cleaned and a time lapse of about 15 minutes for them to even get cleared. There was a bus girl, but she only showed up once during the two hours we were there...not sure what happened to her. I visited Old Village Korean Restaurant with a friend yesterday and ordered the spicy chicken and boneless marinated galbi - both marinades were amazing and well seasoned (the chicken had a decent spice to it but could use more chili in my opinion). The meat quality was surprisingly better than I thought it would be and cooking on charcoal (charring) really gives a different flavor and meat experience thats more satisfying than electric or gas grills. The staff were nice, practiced good cleaning and hygiene practices from what I saw, and I can't wait to go back there (I'm considering going back today or tomorrow!) I saw a lot of reviews talk about their meat quantity, price, and the banchan: They gave a decent amount of both meats, it was more than enough for 2 people to be filled to capacity (but we didn't feel bloated afterwards, which is one of the best parts of eating at a kbbq). Compared to other kbbq places with combos that come with two meats of similar quality, this place was decently priced. I could get the same amount of meat and roughly the same quality for $80+ at other places but the whole meal was about $63. This place is worth spending money at. Banchan! We loved their kimichi, the pickled radishes (there were 2-3 varieties), cucumbers, potatoes, and a few others BUT it all tasted fresh and for once my kimchi had a good amount of chili paste on it (gotta love spice). After new owner took over and has been remodeled (expanded for modern look and more seating), my family and I've tried three times. Service and some food quality (as we ordered only certain dishes) went from good to poor. Since they were one of our favorite restaurants, we've tried three times to make sure. Went here for the second time this evening, and our experience was even better than the first time! We made a reservation, and even though the place wasn't full, they had a choice spot set aside for us. Service was great...they came by to help us out and refill our drinks just enough without being intrusive. Had the pork belly (x2) this time, and it did not disappoint. We'll definitely be back as soon as we can to try some of the dishes we haven't yet! read more

Old Village Korean Restaurant serves up some tasty, tasty Korean BBQ! Many of the tables features a charcoal BBQ where you'll cook your own meats. But don't worry, the BBQs are ventilated so you won't be coughing on smoke while you eat. And the best part is that your meats are freshly cooked by you and hot and tasty. The BBQ chicken, galbi beef, and bulgogi beef were all very good. Great flavors and excellent seasonings. My favorites were the chicken and the galbi. With our meal we had many side dishes. While the others in my dinner party enjoyed the sides there were not my thing. I'm still trying to expand my culinary palette but most of the sides were just not to my liking. It's a fun place to eat and there is lots of great food. Not sure about the cost because I think my brother was treating us to dinner. Bonus!
