Listen - I feel bad because this is a local place but...the food was horrible. I really don't write many bad reviews. I feel like I owe it to you though. The staff here are really nice and I place no blame there. Our waiter also asked me several times if everything was ok. I think he recognized I didn't eat much. I ordered the spinach and chicken enchiladas thinking, "maybe a little lighter option enchilada." WRONG. They came SMOTHERED in sour cream and cheese. My husband laughed as I scraped and scooped a white hot goopy mess off the top of my beloved enchiladas. Which meant I also scooped off 75% of the spinach. The spinach was on top of the enchilada. I really wanted to like it. My stomach is a little crampy. My husband ordered the Christina's Burrito. Raisins and walnuts. On top. BE CAREFUL. The surprise inside is a bunch of fresh cut and raw jalapeños. The skinny margarita was good and fully takes credit for one of the stars given. It was... an experience. We really wanted to like this place. It's within walking distance and local. I am just not sure if $45 is worth it. read more

Very disappointed in our most recent experience at Ole's. The service was extremely slow. I asked for a tea and never received it. Our drinks were empty most of our dinner and my food came out cold. I know I've had good experiences before, but it's been a while. They need to hire more servers for the dinner rush on Fridays, although I won't be back to see if they do. read more

The is based on the experience after they reopened in 2019. We used to go every few weeks since it's one of the few places within walking distance of our house. First off the food is just ok, this is consistent from before they closed and reopened however for the price point it's now probably best to go to Mi Cocina, as the quality, service, overall cleanliness, and appearance is considerably better. Also they increased their pricing on drinks all margaritas are $10 on average and no happy hour, which is ok, but for the price they should tell you what kind of tequila the margaritas contain, which they don't. The same goes for wine it's $8-9 per glass but again it's just sold as Cabernet or Pinot Grigio etc, no mention of the brand. That's ok at the old $5-6 price point but at $8 a glass the expectation is a good glass of wine. We were looking forward to again supporting local and the reopening but it was terribly disappointing. For the quality, pricing, and service it's a better bet to go to Mi Cocina down the street. read more

I've been eating at this place since 1995 through changes in ownership and menus. In 2017, they're under new ownership and I've noticed slight changes in the decor and staffing. Food is still delicious. Staff is getting up to speed and learning the ropes. My new food obsession is the chicken and rice soup. Tastes like my South Texas grandma made it. SO DELICIOUS. This place is in a shopping center that shares it with a donut shop, tv repair place, and a gas station. Expectations were not high but the food is GREAT! The chips were plain and the salsa had a little kick. I had the Lupe's plate which had 2 enchilladas, beef taco, chicken taco, and rice and refried beans (I had double rice, not a fan of beans, except charo beans). The plate had enough food and only cost $9.95. It seemed a little expensive but that is just how much Mexican food costs anywhere else. My wife had two enchiladas which she said was really good. She said the rice is the best she has ever had (yes she has had a lot of Mexican rice because...she is a Mexican). My only complaint is the music was a little loud and there seemed to be a lot of workers just wandering around in the small joint. The place was full but there was never a line. read more

I have been going to Ole's for years as my grandmother lives down the street from the restaurant. It is our standard dinner place when we get together. It is better than your standard tex mex neighborhood restaurant. Chips and salsa are great, beer is always cold, and I haven't gone wrong on a meal choice yet. I had the chicken nachos on Saturday night and they were great. My husband has beef fajitas that looked great. The house tacos are a favorite of mine as well. The wife and I came here on a Saturday afternoon. It's in a little storefront; the entryway was a little tricky as we had to get through their christmas tree and decorations. We were led to some nice padded upholstered booths, and tables with black vinyl tablecloths. The silverware was extremely unremarkable. Plain silverware. Very plain. I mean no ornamentation at all, just a spoon in the shape of a spoon and a fork in the shape of a fork. Plain. The tea came in really big glasses, though, which was awesome because I am a big tea drinker by birth and can really handle my tea. The food, honestly, we ate here over a month, maybe two months, ago, and I am trying to discern my draft review which I wrote in the restaurant and I didn't seem to make many comments about the food, mostly I was just very disgruntled with the whole silverware issue. I do remember that I was not impressed with the food. The salsa was very tomatoey and unpretentious. I had the Ole's platter and the wife had Caddy fajitas. I don't remember anything at all about either of these entrees. All I remember was that the wife and I agreed that it was very bland and unremarkable. Bland. Really bland. Blander than the word "bland". Even the jalapenos were bland. It was like a Mexican saw the clientele in Coppell and Copellified his mexican food so that Coppellians could eat it, which basically made everything taste like corn flakes or ham and mayo sandwiches or sloppy joes. Bland. Blander than Taco Bell bland. Actually, Taco Bell's Fire sauce would have been a big improvement; so, if you have a groupon and decide to give Ole's a try, here's my advice: 1) BRING YOUR OWN SILVERWARE. Some nice stuff with filligrees and undulations. 2) Enjoy your big-A glass of tea. 3) Bring Taco Bell Fire sauce. Trust me on this. It sounds crazy, I know, but I'm pretty sure Ole's Tex-Mex and Taco Bell Fire sauce are made for each other. 4) I apologize for my usage of the word "discern", let me know if you need me to explain it. Just went in, for the first time,to get a BOWL of chicken tortilla soup to go for lunch. My husband and I go there all the time and get a HUGE BOWL... if we eat in. Highly disappointed that the portion sizes are way different if you get to go vs. eating in. Come on... it's soup (broth). I would come in to get soup to go every day if... The chips and salsa are very good. I really like the fajitas, but every once in a while I'll have the house tacos or a chimichanga. We eat at Ole's frequently. It is typical Tex-Mex, nothing fancy. The food is good; the restaurant is clean; the wait staff is professional and attentive; and the service is very quick. The interior design is not high-end; but they frequently keep it remodeled. You can tell they care about the restaurant. I love the neighborhood, family-run feeling about Ole's. I usually get the brisket tacos or the taco salad. The fried avocado is really good, too, as is the shrimp salad. read more

We visited on 7/3 for dinner about 530pm; had a Margarita since it was Happy Hour until 6pm! I ordered Brisket Tacos, very disappointing, corn tortillas were very hard around the edges and rubbery, honestly very little meat/brisket inside. I told our server, she said she'd tell the manager but he never appeared at our table. We didn't order any more drinks although our server enquired if we wanted one but the Margarita was disappointing too, arrived in what seemed to be a beer glass, other than being too sweet it was bland! When she brought the bill, she repeated that she "told" the manager about my feedback. There was no discount to reflect the poor quality or any attempt by management to show they cared about our concerns. We had stopped going to Oles when it changed management to Kelly's for exactly this reason but were told the original owners bought it back. We used to go there regularly for about 10 years and always enjoyed the experience which was why we were happy to hear they bought it back - but not so sure now!!! read more

This is a family-run, neighborhood restaurant. Most tex-mex staples are here - good chips and margaritas. My family goes about twice per month because the food is solid, service good and laid-back atmosphere. Two dishes are outstanding: 1) Chile rojo - pork cooked in a mild red chile sauce is delicious. Mild, savory, slightly-smoky. 2) Carne Guisada - essentially a very thick beef stew. It is somewhat spicy, extremely flavorful with beef that is beefy and pretty tender. Jalapenos in it, so it is a bit spicy but delicious. In fact, after I ordered it for the first time about 2 years ago, I couldn't order anything else for about 12 months. When I finally tried something new, it was the chile rojo and now I go between the two dishes 50-50. A great, family-run neighborhood restaurant. read more

Y'all. Y'ALL. GATHER ROUND. My husband wanted dinner and he was like "What do you want?" and I told him I wasn't hungry but this smart man ordered me guacamole anyway. First of all, I stole some of his fajitas and they were amazing. Second of all, our two or three dip apps (salsa, guac, queso) came with one tiny sad half bag of chips. We ordered from Grub Hub but my husband called the restaurant. The guy on the phone was like "Y'all give me your address I got you" and I don't think I made my husband that happy on the day I agreed to marry him. This restaurant dude out here stealing my man with two bags of chips. So the guy shows up to our place with SO MANY CHIPS I WILL HAVE CHIPS FOR A HUNDRED YEARS and some sopapillas because salt bae needed that sprinkle of extra customer service. Guy who delivered the missing part of our Grub Hub order (which was sitting in a bag! At his restaurant! Aka Grub Hubs problem not his!) was actually the owner. My husband swears all they did was pass the food over but the pep in his step as he re-entered our residence leads me to believe the owner also took him on a weekend trip to Mexico and told him he was pretty. In addition to the amazing service, the food was TOP NOTCH and my "I'm not hungry" guacamole was beautifully presented even in a to go order, and the best guac I've ever had. Excellent food, my favorite margarita swirls, friendly staff. Very low key, generally quick service.

Big fan. Been going since late 90's when Ole opened the place after working for Anamia's when they moved from this location to where they are now on Denton Tap. He stayed and opened Oles. Probably approaching 150 visits and have never had a bad piece of chicken or beef here. All chicken dishes use white meat when shredded and thick, moist chicken breast when grilled or sliced. Beef is always fresh and in all those visits have never had to remove a bite of food into a napkin to get rid of a bone or piece of gristle, etc. My wife and I are big TexMex fans and eat at lots of places around DFW. There's good food everywhere but we hate seeing what looks like ground chicken parts hidden in enchiladas, quesadillas and tamales and the only nice white meat is presented on the fajitas only. So, this is my take on Ole's...consistency and good quality on the ingredients that really count. Chips and salsa are tasty and we like the fact the salsa varies by visit. Sometimes its a bit hotter than usual, other times not. The guacamole that comes on dishes isn't the best but tableside is really good. Another little item that is nice with the tableside quacamole is they don't come out with pre measured amounts of ingredients and just dump it all in and start stirring like Cantina Laredo and other places. The waiter knows what he's doing and judges the amount of each ingredient while mixing...a little different every time and you can tell them more jalapenos or onions, etc. Margaritas are definitely not watered down. The regular frozen or on the rocks is pretty stout and swirls are good too. Top shelf makes Ole's margaritas one of the strongest around so be careful with those for sure. Try to stay in the main dining room when going. The second room they use for special events and spill over dining when they're busy is a totally different feeling and not nearly as nice as the main dining area. This is not upscale Tex Mex and they're not trying to be. If you're looking for engraved edges on your silverware handles, you might want to try some place else. But for good, consistent food and a homey neighborhood feel with nice margaritas and chips, it tops our list. Prices are mid range for Tex Mex...two dinners with drinks will be around $30-$35. Our recommendations are the Poblano Enchiladas, Brisket Tacos, Chicken Quesadillas and Pechuga con Hongos. Fajitas are always good as well. read more
