I can not believe that anyone would write a poor review about this restaurant. I have been going here since they opened and each time am surprised by the quality of food and presentation. You will always find one of the owners working diligently along side the staff. They have great specials such as half price wine night and they seasonally change up the menu. There is something on the menu for everyone from a gourmet burger to an amazing pork chop! I eat out 4-5 times a week at high end restaurants throughout Fairfield and Westchester. This is one of my favorites that I consistently visit and am happy with everything they have to offer. The food here was decent. I got the gnocchi bolognese and it said it was served with basil, but they put arugula on top instead. That made the dish very bitter. Possibly they thought a couple in their mid 20's wouldn't know the difference but I did. My boyfriend got the fettuccine which was pretty delicious. Again, the arugula substitute for basil ruined what could have been a great pasta dish. We also got the braised beef arepa, we wanted to try it of curiosity since we absolutely love Valencia in Norwalk, but it didn't compare. The beef was delicious but the open face arepa wasn't comparable to others I've had. The service was slow. It took almost 30 min for our pasta dishes to come out. It also took our waitress a while to come check on us and grab our check. Olios is a small restaurant so I just couldn't fathom why the speed of service wasn't any better, especially because it takes so long already to bring out the food. The prices were also pretty steep for the quality of food and type of food. Overall, a 3 star place. Wouldn't come back again though. read more

Quarantine has been accommodated without missing a step! When ingredients are like musical notes - you think you know them, until they're assembled in combinations you never dreamed of. When teenagers are exciting about octopus and zucchini spaghetti, and you find your eyes closing involuntarily as a perfect bite washes over you. The service is attentive not intrusive, not aggressive, just there at the moment. Every layer of every dish received thought and attention before it arrived. It is piping hot, fresh, amazing. A rare example of how a serious kitchen demands the same of its service and attracts customers who understand how hard it is to do everything so well, all the time. Olio does NOT disappoint!!! Even during these hard times, the owners (husband and wife) have transformed their 5 star gourmet restaurant into a 5 star gourmet take out only restaurant. The Sunday sauce, meatballs, fresh homemade pasta, and Asian ribs were just as incredible at home as they are in the restaurant. Not to mention their fresh loafs of bread are unbelievably delicious and perfectly cooked. If you do not try them for take out (or go in once we can again) you are missing out on some of the best food up in the Stamford area. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED. read more

I was expecting so much more. We have been meaning to try out Olio forever and after today we will not go back. The scallop appetizer is very good, as everyone says but the pork and pickle appetizer was so strange and tasteless. It was a waste of money frankly. I didn't think it would be a plate of fried stuff with pickles. I thought it would be braised, sauces, something. But no. Our entrees were fine. My husband liked the duck but everything took so long to get to the table. Even the chef came out to apologize the table near us for the long wait for food. I finished my coffee before my dessert came out. There's one waitress for the whole back room. It felt hectic for such slow service. I was hoping for better service, food and ambience. Definitely a place where you need a reservation, but worth it! A very cozy intimate setting. House made whipped ricotta and bread nice and warm comes to the table. I ordered the scallop appetizer in cauliflower puree perfectly cooked. My friend ordered the scallop main course and loved it. The rabbit in red wine with gnocchi was amazingly tender could cut with a fork. The bread pudding was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. This is hands-down our favorite restaurant in Stamford. We love that it's in the little quaint neighborhood of Springdale in Stamford. The wait staff are very friendly and knowledgeable and Moira, the manager and co-owner is fantastic. She's always helping in the kitchen. The food is unbelievable. I miss the cavatelli with rabbit ragu. Now we love the grilled octopus (mmm). The short rib is always delicious and generous, and the pork chop is always juicy and flavorful. Ive also enjoyed the duck and their zucchini spaghetti with white beans -- it is a great light option. Their risotto is the bomb---you want to lick the plate clean! 1/2 price wine on Tuesday too! Lunch is great too - their burger with truffle French fries (OMG!!!!). Go there tonight!! read more

After loving several dinners at Olio, I tried out their Sunday brunch about two weeks ago. Having been turned away the week before because the place was too crowded, we made a reservation a day in advance. In spite of unexpected icing on the roads early that morning, the restaurant was still buzzing for brunch. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his "Manmosa" - Blue Moon and OJ - and lobster Benedict. His only negative comments were that there was too much salad on the plate with the Benedict and the toast served under the egg, in place of the traditional English muffin, was difficult to cut. I was so into my Bacon Bloody Mary that I posted a photo of it on Facebook to make all my friends jealous. My Olio Frittata was delicious and flavorful. Olio is my favorite place to dine out. Of course I recommend it even though I'll have to fight you for a table! read more

One of my favorite places in all of stamford. Very fresh and interesting menu. There is always a great selection of Wine and cocktails. My wife and i have been here a few times and love the small intimate setting. The open kitchen is very cool because i like to watch the chef in action. The brunch is the best brunch in stamford hands down! I think everything is priced accordingly. I see a few reviews mention the location as having a factor in menu pricing. Thats silly, i'll pay for every dish on the menu. The portions are fine, the ingredients are clearly fresh and the dishes are well thought out and executed. This fantastic little spot in Springdale is only about a month old, but wow was I impressed. Great service, ambiance and most importantly incredible food. Service : Greeted and seated quickly at 8p on a Friday (which I wasn't sure would happen based on how many had said there would be a wait). Our server was pleasant, but he didn't give us his name. Water was always filled, brad was plentiful and the food came quickly. Top notch. The hostess, who I think was one of the owners, was so appreciative of our praise. Also saw the chef talking with tables. Love that. Ambiance: simple, elegant and comfortable. The hole in the wall exterior does no justice to the warm and inviting interior. It's an open kitchen layout so the aroma of the food permeates the restaurant. Even the plays and flatware are a perfect fit for the vibe of this place. Great presentatio. Food: For s starters, you get bread (some type of crusty white and focaccia) and a calendar olive spread and a delicious hummus. For an appetizer we went with the wild mushroom crostini which was dressed with fresh arugula and shredded parmesan. Light and flavorful. For our entrees, my girlfriend went with the lobster gnocchi. It was creamy, fresh,filling, but light. Comfort food kicked up several notches to decadence. I had the special. Quick note on their specials. They're new everyday and they list them on their Facebook page so keep an eye out for anything that looks good! Last night it was biased beef short ribs with lobster over mushroom risotto. The portion was substantial, but it was sogood i almost are the rib and licked my plate. Cooked to perfection, this dish may have been the best meal I've eaten in years. The sauce was sweet sweet and savory and tasted like it had hints of nutmeg and cinnamon which was delectable. We finished with some homemade donuts served with Nutella which were a perfect selection as they weren'ttoo heavy or over 'll overly sweet. I ended up at Olio while avoiding the 10 hour gas lines in NYC. I decided it was silly to wait 10 hours for gas, when I could drive 45 minutes to CT and not wait at all. Well since I am a big foodie I searched Yelp and found a pit stop for dinner, Olio. Upon arriving at Olio we were warmly greeted and seated immediately on a Friday night. We got the last open table. We started with the Olio Fall Salad which is baby mixed greens, roasted beets, crumbled goat cheese, sliced pears, candied walnuts, and apple cider vinaigrette. It was delicious! For dinner we had the braised beef short rib, which was excellent and the 12oz. N.Y. Strip which is great as well. For our dessert we shared the donuts with hazelnut dip, it was also very good. Olio is a very good restaurant, come for a good meal, excellent service and you won't be disappointed! If I am ever in Stamford again, I will be sure to eat at Olio! read more

This could be the best restaurant in Stamford. The menu is small and I have tried most of their offerings and everything has been excellent. Some of the highlights from Olio were the Halibut, the Short Ribs, the empanada appetizer...all were terrific. A great new restaurant and luckily I live in the area. From July 7, 2012: Just had our first meal at Olio. Owners were kind and friendly. Ambience was good, wine was tasty and reasonably priced, and the music was chosen well. Loved the ribs appetizer and you must get the donuts for dessert. Pork belly was prepared well. We will be back. Service was attentive. Springdale locals should check this out. After the Chopped episode, I was really looking forward to this experience and even to writing a wonderful review. Sadly, I am disappointed. The food flavor was good, not great, just good. Service was lackluster. One server for 4 tables, and his friends or family at the bar. His friends and family received 75% percent of his attention, leaving the other 4 tables to share the rest of his efforts. Lunch portions are extremely small for the $20-24 price per plate. We had to ask, and wait, for water refills. Bread request was eventually answered with cool loaf and frozen butter. 2 of 3 in our party were served and the 3rd was served 10 minutes later. Shrimp scampi had 3 shrimp. Spanish risotto had one half inch size piece of chorizo. Orichetti was neede seasoning. Cinnamon donuts were raw inside, and the chocolate dip lacked flavor. Each interaction with the server, from the moment we stepped into the restaurant and waited 6 minutes while he chatted with friends, until we received the last water refill, we felt like we were an inconvenience. The first smile and positive attitude he displayed was when he bought the check. Still took another 10 minutes to cash us out. Sad. Disappointing. Even if the food was better, I would not subject my family, friends, and business associates to this level of service. First and last visit. read more

We've had the scallops (very tasty but small portion for the price), the housemade fettucini (solid, substantial and best pasta that we've had at Olio), the lobster gnochhi (not enough lobster, a bit too complicated in terms of flavors but still good), the sea bass (really good), and we had the special lobster chowder soup (again, not enough lobster and not thick enough for my liking).....overall very good and service for take out has been excellent. It is unfortunate that a good meal was spoiled by service that was not accommodating and a shortage of many menu items. They ran out of the special by 8:30, no cavatelli was available and then when we settled on the Ciopinno, they ran out of fish. When simple substitutions were requested, we were repeatedly told that no substitutions no matter how minor could be accommodated. When we go out to dinner we want good food and good service. A restaurant should give their customers what they request and they should certainly not run out of so many main menu items. Olio has good food but a really good restaurant needs to do more than that read more

This a great restaurant but has it flaws. Food, ambience and service were all phenomenal. But availability of dishes was not. I called ahead to make a reservation for my wife's birthday and placed an order for a piece of Tres Leches cake with a candle. The person I spoke with said sure. We get there and about to have desert and the waiter tells us that there is no more Tres Leches cake. I was so disappointed since I called in advance to have a piece reserved. Also to mention that when we were about to order our entree the waiter was telling us that they ran out of a couple of ingredients so certain dishes weren't available. Overall Olio is a great restaurant. Would have given it 4, maybe even 5 stars but not having a quarter or your menu available because you ran out of ingredients is a restaurant no-no to me. read more
