A pre-set menu "family-night" at first was a little off-putting, but only until they brought out the foccacia bread (which they only serve on Sundays) which is a little piece of heaven in your mouth. This "mouth-gasm" (Frank, our waiter, warned us about this phenomenon) was followed by course after delectable course. The menu was extremely creative and gourmet in palate (ever had "bass carpaccio with fennel and blood orange sprigs?) but not in generosity (2 plates with each course plus dessert). It really pleases me to have a restaurant like this less than 5 minutes from home. It's easy to eat dinner here, and the food is above average. My most recent experience went down like this... made reservations for 7:30 on a Friday night. My husband and I were sat promptly upon arriving. We requested to sit inside since it was a very balmy night, but their outside areas are lovely and in decent weather, make for a much nicer dining experience. The inside was a little too bright for dinner (which made the wear and tear on the booths more obvious), and the wall decorations a little cheesy. Our server was friendly and attentive, but she spoke quietly and was dressed rather casually for waiting tables at a restaurant with entrees in the $25 - $35 range. So, I guess I've already expressed the one negative about this restaurant - when your bill for two is close to $150, you sort of expect the experience to match the price, and cheesy wall decor and servers wearing torn up Converses don't help create that sort of experience. Anyway, the food did not disappoint. I ordered the zucchini involtini and the Tilefish, and both were perfect. The ricotta oil stuff they serve with the bread is also pretty incredible. My husband ordered the crostini with white anchovy and rabbit, and he was also happy with both. We had the peanut butter panna cotta and apple crostata for dessert, and they were amazing! I can't believe It took me so long to discover this place. It's one of my favorite restaurants in Austin now. They have excellent and fresh pasta, service is great, the ambience is great, wine is good, and they have gluten free options and pasta. Admittedly, the menu didn't do much for me. One previous reviewer is correct, many of the ingredients are unrecognizable and not easily pronounced. And the descriptions aren't easily discernible for what you will receive, in my opinion. The portions are very small, and, for that, the prices are high. This is a foodie place, for sure. I guess it just went a little above my head. I met a group of four other women there. We had made reservations, but there is definitely plenty of space (it was a Wednesday night, as well). We sat inside, but the patio outside is lovely. To start, we shared the seafood mixto with argula and lemon. The fried seafood and aioli were great. I expected more of a 'salad' with the description of arugula, but there were only a few sprigs. We also shared the cheese and meat plate. It was alright. The cheeses were outstanding, but they have house-made mortadella which didn't look appetizing. And the accompanying condiments were a little odd for me (quince and fennel preserves). Both of these items were supposed to be 1/2 price for happy hour, but we realized after we left that they charged us full price. That was disappointing. I had the farm egg polenta with mushrooms (from the appetizer section) for my entree. It was very good - reminiscent of a similar dish at Hillside Farmacy. I also ordered from the one-bite portions, a semolina gnocchi. I thought it would be gnocchi. It was actually a triangle of...more polenta. My bad for ordering, but a description of the items would help! It tasted fine, just not what I expected. My fellow dining mates had various pastas: gemelli (sp?) with sausage, spaghetti with tomato sauce, goat cheese whole wheat ravioli. Everyone seemed to like their dishes. The ravioli definitely got the most raves. Two desserts were shared (which I didn't taste) - panacotta (everyone who had it loved it, but it was hard to tell what all was on the plate-- the presentation was a bit too artsy!) and the trio of gelato. The chocolate disappointed my friend who ordered it and didn't realize it would have cardamom and cayenne in it (again, a description would help!), but the others enjoyed it. The presentation of the food can be beautiful (if sometimes a bit much), the ambiance is great (the restaurant is gorgeous), the service is impeccable (our waiter was outstanding, despite forgetting a few items and charging us full price for HH items), and the complimentary valet parking takes a load off trying to park in a busy neighborhood. The cocktail, wine and beer menus are excellent, as well. Check out the menu online first (which does change seasonal with what is available) to get a feel for the food and flavors. The service, the ambiance, and the food were all amazing. We had our girls' night there (~10 of us) and had made a reservation in middle of Austin Restaurant Week. They actually ended up seating us at the chef's private table in the back, which was so beautiful, quiet --perfect for our large party to have an intimate time together talking, gossiping, laughing, drinking, and enjoying such a delicious meal. The waiters were attentive, patient, helpful, and gave great suggestions on food and drink. And this was all in middle of restaurant week (which, to us, ARW is usually synonymous with sub-par food and service)! We had the four course menu at the time, and the most memorable dishes were the bass carpaccio and the braised veal breast. The cauliflower side was tasty too. And the chocolate mousse cake was the best I had ever had. So, it was good enough to where I just had to get on yelp 2 months after the fact to write a raving review. I am so glad this place opened back up! When it was El Arbol I loved it then, and now open as Olive & June except for ripping out some of the cool interior decorations, it has that great outdoor ambience with that WONDERFUL huge oak tree with the integrated patios and different levels outside! The red wine selection is good there- I had a Malbec. I tried both the appetizers and entrees. Be warned before you go, the food portions here are small, as that seems to be the popular trend lately with new Austin restaurants like Barley Swine, Swifts Attic, etc. This is not your "family style" traditional Italian restaurant! Definitely more of a place for a date or happy hour get together. This was close to a 5 star ranking, but the poor parking availability and the price-per-portion for food knocked a half star or so off. If you have not been here before it is definitely worth the trip! Not a far drive from downtown. Service is great, quality of the food is great, and lots of patio seating areas. Amazing all around. Beautiful scenery. Great service. We had a few different things including the saffron ravioli, pork meatballs, rabbit, and risotto. Everything was delicious. The rabbit could have been a little juicier but other than that, superb. The ravioli couldn't have been better. The meatballs had a delicious hint of fig that made me want to keep going for more. Overall it was a great experience. Also! The desserts were all to die for.... the ricotta cheesecake- OMG. Yum. We had the beef ravioli and squash pasta and while the dough was cooked to perfection on both pastas, it was ruined by being absolutely soaked in butter/oil and having overly sweet fillings. Really fancy place to eat out. Its an outdoorsy/garden-like/ house themed and cosy eating place. The price is definitely hefty but the atmosphere and service make it worth the money. The food comes in small portions so its not super filling, but it tastes quite alright. My rating is high more for the ambiance than the food, I really didn't think the food was THAT great but the place sets a great mood for date nights, quiet dining, friend dates and such. I went to go celebrate an internship offer with my parents and they gave us drinks on the house. So I can say the service is also impeccable! Came here for a wedding rehearsal dinner and would be tempted to come back for dinner service next time I am in town as I have heard great things. My table was not terribly impressed with the buffet that was laid out for us. Favorites included the salty bread and olive oil butter and the veggies. The fish, brisket, and pasta were really underwhelming. They were great in that they made off menu chicken fingers for the kids at the party which all of the adults drooled over noting that they were the best chicken fingers any of us had ever had! I would probably give 3 stars if prices weren't at play, but since they charge fine dining prices, I expect fine dining experience. Also this is a long review, but I went there on my wedding night, so it meant a lot to me. It was a very intimate wedding with four of us in total, and we figured that Italian food and wine would be the perfect laid back wedding dinner. I reserved a table 10 days in advance, and I mentioned over the phone that it was our wedding dinner. We didn't request anything special except to be sat at a good table. We showed up to our reservation and our table was right in the middle of the restaurant, next to the entrance door. We asked to be sat elsewhere, since the place was not full. I'd like to add that I was wearing a freaking wedding gown, so there's no way at this point the service staff doesn't know that this is a wedding dinner. We sat down at our new table, ordered some wine. The serving staff informed us that we had to order all courses at once, so we ordered 4 appetizers and 4 main courses to share amongst the 4 of us. Appetizers were served quickly and were tasty, but I noticed that the plates were kind of greasy and had fingerprints on them. A little surprising but oh well. Food was good. Our server came back to take the empty plates since the main courses were (already) ready. We weren't quite done with the appetizers, but she didn't ask and just took away the plates. Main courses were served and plates were dirty again (could be from our server's hands?). Food was bland and lack refinement. We also ran out of wine, but there was no servers around. We were almost finished eating when the server came back to our table to ask "if everything was still perfect?", showing us the thumbs up, and quickly walked away before we had time to actually say anything. It was our wedding night so we decided to make the best of it regardless of the less than impressive service and rushed supper. So we ordered several deserts, as well as the best grappa from their list (grappa being one of the reasons why we reserved there in the first place). We were informed that they didn't have the grappa we wanted, but the server recommended to try the "flight", which is a tasting of three different sorts of grappa, and we agreed. Two of them were delicious, but there was one drink that was not grappa, it was some kind of liqueur that tasted like limoncello. It might have been made with grappa or something, but it was not actual grappa, it was super sweet and it wasn't at all what we were looking for. I informed our server that this was more like a liqueur and not what we had in mind at all, and her answer was "it's grappa, I saw him pour it from the bottle". And she walk away, and came back with the check. Never even offered to replace it with something different. It was the most underwhelming dinning experience I've had in a while, and it happened to be on my wedding day. I regret going there. At no point were we offered even one drink or one piece of cake just to at least say "congratulations, and thank you for choosing to dine with us on your big day". I understand that this is not an obligation, but any decent establishment will highlight a special event with at least a little something. We also were charged for the drink we didn't like, even if it wasn't actually what we ordered. They have a beautiful patio and an interesting liquor list. But don't go there if you're celebrating a special event or something important to you. It's a casual, average place charging too much for average food and average service. I think it is fair to always judge a restaurant as an overall experience since, if we are honest, half the reason we go out to eat is for the whole deal (at least that's what I do ). This place used to be Arbol, a good Argentinean owned place which had a good mix of styles and dishes. One of the main attractives of this place is the venue itself, with a nice and cool looking bar and tons of outdoor space to move around and mingle after a good meal. So what has changed? Olive and June's approach is (from what I was told at the restaurant) Italian fusion. The thing is, the appetizers where definitely showing refined ingredients and not necessarily Italian in origin. We tried the pork belly and thought it needed an extra char on the surface as it had too much of the soft fat tissue. The farm egg was good but a bit bland. I actually had 2 entrees (yes, 2... I take my yelping duties seriously) which one of them was a pasta dish with Italian pork sausage...again, was good but nothing amazing or that could not be found in several smaller joints around Austin. We also tried the pumpkin ravioli and even though a bit sweet, it was pretty good. My favorite dish was the pork chop...I came in looking for original and great Italian food. Not so much the case. Very few food/side or actual cocktail options and odd combinations of things. The kind of ppl who like to mix things like "goat cheesecake" with beet flavors or watermelon and salad will love this place; but if you want something like chicken alfredo and a nice spin of a good favorite dessert, you will be stumped and perplexed for sure. Ordering anything is really a gamble because everything is maybe too unique. Very Pricey for such a gamble and portions are a third of Macaroni Grill. We thought the gelato would be safe...it had a rather large shard of plastic in it. They handled it nicely but only comp'd the $7 dessert. Being our first time and given that experience on our Anniversary, we were given a $25 off next visit, but we won't be revisiting because the menu wasn't our "cup of tea"...so we really just got $7 off a $110 meal (for 2) for the piece of plastic in our dessert. Which isn't much considering we could have choked to death. :( Had they taken better care of us considering that piece, I might have excluded the entire incident from this review ;). My boyfriend hated his dish, the lamb tortellini. I tried it, and it is pretty disappointing. Our server looked at him, and tried to steer him in a more satisfying direction...but he loves lamb. What lamb? I had the pistachio risotto and added scallops. HELL YEAH! I'm still craving it. They don't have "affordable" wine options, but some dishes looked interesting. I stopped in Olive & June for a quick bite sat at the bar and was greated quickly with a cold drink bread and olive oil with seasoning. First off the olive oil was very fresh and not acidic or rancid which can easily happen in a restaurant or even home. The bartender was very knowledgeable of the menu and we talked through a couple dishes we agreed on the house made pasta with a very crispy pancetta and red sauce. The pasta was cooked to perfection and had a great Romano cheese grated across the top. Prices were fair the food was fresh and fast and I will surely be back. The bar is upstairs and made of marble. There is a vintage food service elevator built into the wall. This place took me back. I felt like I was eating at a fancy restaurant from the 70s. Great outdoor patio and also an air conditioned dining area that seemed great for both large groups or dinner for two. They neighbor with Tiny Boxwood down the street and TB let me keep my car in their parking lot while I went to visit the neighbors too. They spoke highly of each other and support one another. I booked O&J via OpenTable for a 7pm reservation. The restaurant hostess called me at 4 in the afternoon to confirm my reservation. I confirmed, however, just before we hung up she says "I'd like to remind you of our policy that we ask that you complete your dining experience within two hours of your reservation time". When I asked what the reason was, she says "So we can sanitize for the next guests." Hmmm...that doesn't quite make sense if my reservation is at 7, we get 2 hours to eat and you close at 9...no one is getting sat following us. I understand the restaurant would be closing but that was not the reason that was provided. This has nothing to do with sanitizing tables and was more about turning tables. I've never had a restaurant ask me to finish my dining experience within a certain time. This is Austin, Texas, not NYC. Get over yourself Olive & June...you are now ranked below Olive Garden. I guessed right at a winning spot for Mothers Day brunch this year! Their four-course menu was a great experience, and for $39 each, we felt we got a solid bang-for-our-buck. Coming back from a month in Italy earlier this summer, I'm still wary going to Italian restaurants and ordering pasta. I'm always wondering while I wait for my food - while it measure up? Olive & June made me nostalgic. The first thing I noticed was that there was Lambrusco wine on the menu. I had spent a good deal of time in the Emilia Romagna region of Italy, and this particular wine is from the region, and rarely on wine lists here. I'd give them the 4 stars just because of this, but that's not all that was great. I ordered the rigatoni and thought the flavor was unique and amazing. I really enjoyed the sauce, and thought the pasta was cooked perfectly. My party of 3 also split the house mozzarella, which did not disappoint. My friends got the risotto and spaghetti a la norma - they both liked their dishes, but I think the rigatoni was the more flavorful of the three. I would definitely be back for another glass of wine, and to try another dish! read more

Had a very enjoyable dinner with my husband last night. Our waiter was very nice and attentive. I did not particularly care for the small plates that we ordered. The scallops were fresh and the plate looked beautiful but I felt the combinations of flavored were off. The fried ravioli was perfectly crispy but really bland. We also got the cheese and meat plate. They gave us a lot of sliced meat and the cheeses were okay. I would have enjoyed the plate so much more if the fruit was not pickled. The meat and cheese are both savory and one of the cheeses was Roquefort, which pairs so well with a sweet and tart pear. Instead, the pickled pear or apple (I couldn't tell, it was just so pickled) was a little off putting. The entrees were very good. I loved the risotto and the rabbit roulade was perfect.
