Favorite spot in San Diego! Everything we order here is good. Really love the banana pancakes

I stayed in an airbnb right next door, and this was the perfect spot to grab brunch. The area is a prime location right in the heart of pacific beach. It's a cute little patio area with outside seating and minimal indoor seating, but the service is quick and helpful! I didn't have much of an appetite so I ordered the Keep it Simple which consisted of 2 scrambled eggs, sourdough toast, and hash browns. I know it's just hash browns but they were so good! It was the right amount of saltiness with a hint of sweetness. The dishes are super affordable so you can't go wrong. I also had an iced vanilla latte with oat milk (love that they have other alternatives for whole milk!) which was pretty decent and strong enough to keep me awake. Overall, I enjoyed the "hole in the wall" feel, the quick and kind service, and good food with a San Diego feel. I'll definitely be back! read more

I ordered the Heart Scramble - 3 egg whites scrambled with mushrooms and served with avocado, tomato slices and my choice of gluten-free toast on the side (a welcome surprise that they had gluten-free bread, which was perfect). I had just finished a bike ride around the bay and was starving, and the eggs were so good. And I'm picky about my scrambled eggs! Best brunch I have had in a while! First time getting a veggie quesadilla, and it lifted my mood for the rest of the day. On our first visit to Mission Beach we were so happy to find such great local restaurants within walking or biking distance. Olive is one of those spots. We visited for lunch around 12:30, right before the lunch rush hit! To follow COVID protocol masks must be worn while ordering. You order inside and then it's self select seating while you wait for your order to come out. The decor is so cute! It's like being at someone's home or out on their deck for lunch. We both ordered salads with chicken. Portions sizes are generous and the ingredients used were very fresh. Wait times are also reasonable. My favorite thing about this place is the service. The staff is SO nice. I don't know anywhere else I've visited where people are so patience and kind. Highly recommend. read more

We have a meeting in Mission Beach today so decided to stop by this little cafe. You order/pay at the counter and then find a seat inside or outside. It is very "cozy" I would say. Not a ton of space but enough for where you can eat comfortably. Breakfast burrito (w no beans) - We have gotten a few breakfast burritos lately and this has been my favorite so far. The burrito had a ton of flavor and the bacon and hash browns were nicely crisp. All the flavors were on point and went so well together. Breakfast Quesadilla - This was okay. Imagine a quesadilla but stuffed with bacon, bell peppers, and mushrooms. I felt like the flavors fell a little flat on this one but maybe it was because I ate it after the burrito. Salsa - The salsa here tasted very fresh. I liked it! Thin Mint Mocha - 'Tis the season of Girl Scout cookies! This tasted like the name...thin mints and mocha. Overall, I would recommend this place for their burrito. It would be perfect to pick up and walk to the beach if there were no seats available during the busy summer months. read more

This was a cute local place and pretty busy on the weekend. I'm a lil town on my rating because I could easily give it a three due to menu selections, or lack there of, specifically the eggs. You can only get one style of eggs, and that's the scrambled kind like they serve in hotels. As I'm not the biggest fan of those, I guess I should've checked the menu prior, but had to get out of the rain....The hashbrowns were very good and crispy just as requested and how I like them Overall a cute local community place and looks like it'd be cool to hang on some mornings, so I'm okay with the 4 star. Walked in hangry, rolled out plump and happy. This is a solid breakfast / brunch spot! Note: No Benedicts served here. Sad face. Note also: juice is not fresh squeezed. The classic beach breakfast was very yum, and came with thick slices of smoky bacon. Since I always over-order when I'm hangry, I also got an extra banana walnut pancake and smothered it in butter and syrup. Screw you, arteries! Who needs you anyway? That pancake was awesome. You order and pay first at the counter, then they bring your food out to you. The server came by to ask if I was done before I was actually done, so jumped the gun a little, but otherwise it was good service. Big bonus: the food came out fast, and there was no wait for a table. I was actually headed to the larger and better known brunch spot down the street, but am happy I stopped in here instead. Pro tip: you can "skip the line" and get coffee and pastries across the street at their bakery of the same name! It's super cute there, too. An excellent breakfast spot. There was a short wait of about 15 minutes to get to the counter to order. Staff was friendly. The latte I had was very good, as was my breakfast sandwich. My son had the avocado toast on sourdough, which he really liked. Husband had the basic beach breakfast with pancakes. The pancakes were large and fluffy. The stand-in-line to order process is a bit congested at 11am on Sunday since servers are constantly cutting through line. Once the order was placed, the service to table was quick and pleasant. Randwich wrap, cinnamon french toast and blueberry pancakes were all spot on. Iced teas were fresh and tasty. Managed to find seating on patio after hanging back. Seating was comfortable and adequately spaced. Definitely come again, but be prepared to be flexible in the brunch rush. read more

It was our first time eating at Olive Cafe yesterday. Not sure where the name came from as I did not see any olives offered on the menu!! We chose this little cafe because there were only 2 other people sitting on the outside patio. Social distancing is key folks! You walk inside to order and there we met 2 smiling young ladies (wearing masks) who were eager to take our order through the plexiglass covering them. Oh ya contactless payment too! They are doin it right ya'all. Hubby ordered the California Chicken sandwich with chips & salsa. For me it was the West Coast Cheese Steak (beef) with a cup of tomato soup. Hubby enjoyed his sandwich which was very nicely plated and looked appetizing! He said it was the aioli that made it so good!! Now other than fighting flies and people watching, I anxiously had a bite of my cheesesteak, wow! Rarely do you find a chef that seasons their meat, but this was perfect! Veggie to meat ratio was on point, but I subtracted a 1/2 point for a little too much bread to meat ratio, maybe removing some of the middle bread might have worked, but It was delicious! I subtracted another 1/2 point for the soup. It was good, but a little butter would have taken off the palate bite. No doubt we will return! On a day that was looking to be one for the books with clears sky, warm sun, and low humidity, I happen upon the Olive Cafe after getting some morning exercise to get some well needed breakfast. I opt for a healthy scramble called the Aegean Scramble for $7.95 that came with feta, green peppers, tomatoes, and some fresh basil, a side of hash browns, and a piece of wheat toast. The scramble was light and flavorful. The fresh basil was not scramble in, but lightly sprinkled on top. Wow, talk about your hidden gems in San Diego... we came here this past Saturday to kick off a friend's bachelor party. While the Olive Cafe is quite small (I think it's a converted beach cottage), the interior is quite homely and you feel like you're right at home. While the patio area was really nice, our group of 8 didn't have any room for us to be seated outside, so we pushed a bunch of tables together inside. What really stands out for me was the speed of service (within 5 minutes of ordering, my food came to my table - very efficient!), the quality of the servers (very friendly)... and of course, the food! I ordered the Eggs Lockerman Scramble - three eggs scrambled with ham, sausage, green pepper, spinach, and sun dried tomatoes, with a side of hash browns and a choice of toast (in my case, sourdough). Very delicious, and when I tried some of my friend's Banana Walnut Pancakes (which were so huge that he made us each try some), I resolved to try the pancakes next time I'm here. We were all thirsty after biking and ran into this place while walking around Mission Beach. We wanted something refreshing and got some Italian ice and smoothies.There were many flavors to choose from and you can also get more than one flavor in a drink. This cafe is really small, so we decided to sit outside on the patio. I tried my friend's cherry Italian ice with cream, but thought it was just okay. The acai smoothie was thick and tasted much better to me. I noticed a sign that said that they also have their own bakery nearby, which I might check out next time if I'm in the area. read more

Definitely a hidden gem. I must have passed this place a billion times and never noticed it. But I finally discovered it after I moved away from SD thanks to my friend who frequents this place. The food was simple, but amazingly good. The outdoor seating is pretty stellar since the weather almost always allows it, and you can have a slight view of Mission Bay. Service was friendly and fast -- order and pay at the register and soak up the sun while you wait for your food. We arrived 5 minutes after the time my order was supposedly "ready" with a massive line at the to-go window. Only my smoothie was ready. We waited another 20 minutes passed our "order ready time" and when I finally got home the extra sides I had paid for were no where to be found and none of my food was crispy. I ordered a chicken pesto and the smoothie of the day- mango. The smoothie was delish! Very fresh. The chicken pesto on the other hand was pretty dry. There wasn't enough pesto spread on it. I would probably come back to try their brunch/breakfast menu though and will stay away from the sandwiches. Such a pleasant place to grab breakfast or brunch! Came here on Sunday with a group of 4 friends and it was a little crowded but surprisingly we easily found a table to sit all of us outside. I got the "Cousin's Favorite Scramble," which was divine - my friends and I agreed unanimously that if you're doing breakfast, which was our case, you should definitely look at Olive Cafe's meals under "Eggs & Things." One of my friends also ordered an "Espresso Milkshake" (I had never heard of such a thing before) and we all loved it. This place is ok. My roommate and I come here solely for the convenience since it's right across the street from us. I have had times where my Chai Latte came out good versus times where it came out watered down or a little too milky. The food is alright as well. If you're feeling some breakfast food by the beach, stop by here. I personally know a few other restaurants I would rather go for food that are better situated but it serves it's purpose for where it's located. All in all, I wouldn't go out of my way to come here but that's most establishments this close to the beach. The good thing is there's a parking lot at the end of the same road, near the Aquatic Center. You can grab a bite then head to the beach or even the bay. read more
