We have a meeting in Mission Beach today so decided to stop by this little cafe. You order/pay at the counter and then find a seat inside or outside. It is very "cozy" I would say. Not a ton of space but enough for where you can eat comfortably. Breakfast burrito (w no beans) - We have gotten a few breakfast burritos lately and this has been my favorite so far. The burrito had a ton of flavor and the bacon and hash browns were nicely crisp. All the flavors were on point and went so well together. Breakfast Quesadilla - This was okay. Imagine a quesadilla but stuffed with bacon, bell peppers, and mushrooms. I felt like the flavors fell a little flat on this one but maybe it was because I ate it after the burrito. Salsa - The salsa here tasted very fresh. I liked it! Thin Mint Mocha - 'Tis the season of Girl Scout cookies! This tasted like the name...thin mints and mocha. This was a cute local place and pretty busy on the weekend. I'm a lil town on my rating because I could easily give it a three due to menu selections, or lack there of, specifically the eggs. You can only get one style of eggs, and that's the scrambled kind like they serve in hotels. The stand-in-line to order process is a bit congested at 11am on Sunday since servers are constantly cutting through line. Once the order was placed, the service to table was quick and pleasant. Randwich wrap, cinnamon french toast and blueberry pancakes were all spot on. Iced teas were fresh and tasty. Managed to find seating on patio after hanging back. Walked in hangry, rolled out plump and happy. This is a solid breakfast / brunch spot! Note: No Benedicts served here. Sad face. Note also: juice is not fresh squeezed. The classic beach breakfast was very yum, and came with thick slices of smoky bacon. Since I always over-order when I'm hangry, I also got an extra banana walnut pancake and smothered it in butter and syrup. Screw you, arteries! Who needs you anyway? That pancake was awesome. You order and pay first at the counter, then they bring your food out to you. The server came by to ask if I was done before I was actually done, so jumped the gun a little, but otherwise it was good service. Big bonus: the food came out fast, and there was no wait for a table. I was actually headed to the larger and better known brunch spot down the street, but am happy I stopped in here instead. We arrived 5 minutes after the time my order was supposedly "ready" with a massive line at the to-go window. Only my smoothie was ready. We wanted something refreshing and got some Italian ice and smoothies.There were many flavors to choose from and you can also get more than one flavor in a drink. This cafe is really small, so we decided to sit outside on the patio. I tried my friend's cherry Italian ice with cream, but thought it was just okay. Wow, talk about your hidden gems in San Diego... we came here this past Saturday to kick off a friend's bachelor party. While the Olive Cafe is quite small (I think it's a converted beach cottage), the interior is quite homely and you feel like you're right at home. While the patio area was really nice, our group of 8 didn't have any room for us to be seated outside, so we pushed a bunch of tables together inside. What really stands out for me was the speed of service (within 5 minutes of ordering, my food came to my table - very efficient!), the quality of the servers (very friendly)... and of course, the food! I ordered the Eggs Lockerman Scramble - three eggs scrambled with ham, sausage, green pepper, spinach, and sun dried tomatoes, with a side of hash browns and a choice of toast (in my case, sourdough). Very delicious, and when I tried some of my friend's Banana Walnut Pancakes (which were so huge that he made us each try some), I resolved to try the pancakes next time I'm here. Definitely a hidden gem. I must have passed this place a billion times and never noticed it. But I finally discovered it after I moved away from SD thanks to my friend who frequents this place. The food was simple, but amazingly good. The outdoor seating is pretty stellar since the weather almost always allows it, and you can have a slight view of Mission Bay. Service was friendly and fast -- order and pay at the register and soak up the sun while you wait for your food. I got the "Cousin's Favorite Scramble," which was divine - my friends and I agreed unanimously that if you're doing breakfast, which was our case, you should definitely look at Olive Cafe's meals under "Eggs & Things." One of my friends also ordered an "Espresso Milkshake" (I had never heard of such a thing before) and we all loved it. This place is ok. My roommate and I come here solely for the convenience since it's right across the street from us. I have had times where my Chai Latte came out good versus times where it came out watered down or a little too milky. The food is alright as well. If you're feeling some breakfast food by the beach, stop by here. I personally know a few other restaurants I would rather go for food that are better situated but it serves it's purpose for where it's located. All in all, I wouldn't go out of my way to come here but that's most establishments this close to the beach. I have been here a couple of times over the past few years and enjoyed it so much as a single chick meeting up with friends. But I came back today as a first time mom with my baby to meet up with my best friend, and I had a horrible experience. First of all the entire restaurant (and it's outdoor patio) is only accessible by stairs. I had to wait for my girlfriend to arrive to help me carry my stroller up the stairs, because their wheelchair lift does not have a key in it to operate it and is blocked by tables and chairs, which is 100% illegal and I cannot believe they have not been sued over this issue. The outdoor dining area is wayyy too packed with tables and chairs, and there is absolutely no way someone in a wheelchair could get to a table or even get inside to order, let alone my big fat stroller. My other complaint is about the restrooms and a lack of a baby changing table inside. I understand these are not required and they are a courtesy to patrons, but I will not return to establishments that do not provide one. The owners of this restaurant are clearly not parents because if you have ever been without a place to lie your screaming child down and change their dirty diaper, you would not put parents in this predicament. I'm only leaving two stars because the food was quite delicious, but also I ordered just a simple açaí bowl, and about 15 minutes after my girlfriend got her burrito, she finally got up and went inside to see what was taking so long for my bowl, and the girl just grabbed it out of the fridge and handed it to her. I don't know why they didn't just call my name and bring it to the table like all of our other items. Or maybe they did but I didn't hear them because I was searching for a place to change my baby's diaper. Yeah so I won't be returning to this place. It's not on the beach nor does it have a water view, but there's indoor and outdoor seating overlooking the street. There's quite a large food menu, in addition to a coffee menu. The food prep time was fair. The food was average...I got the basic beach breakfast, which includes eggs, bacon, and your choice of carb, of which I selected pancakes. You are only permitted scrambled eggs. The pancakes are not that large, but are fluffy and not too dense. Overall, it's fine...but I just didn't care for the house coffee...it tasted off. read more

What a little cute cafe! My boyfriends family came from NY and got a little vacation home for the week on the same street. Located steps away from the beach, you can see that the building has some wear and tear from the salt water that's in the air. It's gets really cramped here. Looks like maybe two small buildings that combined to one, you'll be standing outside these two buildings if there is a line. The coffee and the açaí bowls were pretty decent, nothing too much out of the ordinary. Just good old strawberries and a little bruised banana. Nothing too much stood out for me, besides location. Got a cup of joe too, but if you like your coffee with all the fixings I would suggest you take a couple of sugar packets outside and finishing preparing your joe.. After seating and viewing the menus we went to the counter to order our entrees and beverages. My husband ordered a basic breakfast with eggs, sausage, bacon, pancakes, and hash browns. I ordered the chilaquiles. In addition, my husband ordered a warm beverage and I ordered one the their specials, the lavender chai latte. We received our drinks first. My husband enjoyed his beverage. The lavender chai latte lacked the flavor and the aroma of lavender. Honestly, it tasted as any basic chai latte beverage. While we waited for our food we were observing and discussing the different paintings on the walls. Also, there is section where diners grab their flatware, napkins, water cups, etc. When we received our food order the portions were big, especially my husband's! He greatly enjoyed his food. My chilaquiles were soooo goooood!!! The sauce was amazing, and paired greatly with the guacamole and sour cream. Neither of us were able to finish our meal.
