Being a non-Korean speaker, it was definitely hard to look at the menu since the English description was kinda vague. I got the galbitang which I didn't know was a soup, but regardless it was really good and tasted very homey and clean (like mom's soup). I had that over purple rice and various banchans which I really liked out of all the Korean restaurants I've been to! It's not just basic kimchi and cucumber since they had other sides such as marinated eggs and fish tofu that I enjoyed tremendously. This is probably my new fave restaurant in ktown. The space is clean and has a modern yet cozy ambiance. My family came here for a weekday lunch and called ahead to make sure there was no wait. We got the gukbab and mool mool bae gm Yun/cold noodles and bibimmyun. The gukbab had lots of beef pieces & the broth had depth (dad said it was a bit salty but it was perfect imo) We loved the noodle dishes!!! The noodles were thin and chewy and the broth with pear slices were so refreshing. The banchan were also really good (loved the fish sauce in the kimchi) and the pancake. I love how they have other rice options beside just steamed white rice. I'm a big fan of their mixed rice with the pumpkin pieces. Service was very attentive - constantly refilling our waters and asking if we wanted banchan refills. The employees are also very kind. 10/10 experience and already looking forward to my next visit. I used to rave about their cold noodles and used to come here often, but my most recent experience was terrible. I ordered the spicy cold noodles and my friend ordered the same thing. To start, we were only offered 2 banchans (pancakes and kimchi). In my previous experience, even though we would still order 2 menu items, we received all the banchans. I think this place just became my favorite Korean restaurant in Ktown. I came here for weekend lunch and got their gamja tang. 10/10, it was so delicious. I usually can not tolerate a lot of spiciness but this was perfect. The broth was spicy enough that it leaves your lips feeling a little hot but not too spicy that you get indigestion. It also contains 3 huge pork bones with tendons, soft bones and ligaments. If you love slurping on bones, then this dish is for you. It also comes with rice and you get to choose between purple rice or white rice. I got white rice but next time I might opt for the purple rice. The banchan is nothing special, although they gave me a second refill of scallion pancakes :D. Their kimchi was on the sweeter side which I liked. I unfortunately don't have any pictures of this restaurant, but I have to review this place as it's high on my list of NYC restaurants! I think their naengmyeon is 100% worth getting and well flavored. It's the perfect refreshing dish to pair with anything else in this restaurant. I find myself craving the naengmyeon here just to have it in the summer. I've gotten the bossam and the jaeyook bokkeum and it is just too good. This place is definitely on the pricier side, but I've left incredibly stuffed with just two dishes shared among two people. The waitstaff is also super nice and always make the experience here enjoyable. It gets a bit loud since the tables are a bit closer together, but other than that, I think it's suitable for a more casual place to eat food. For drinks, would recommend the Red Monkey makgeolli if they still have it! It's the red one in the menu. Easy to share among 2-4 people. They have two floors of seating, and we were seated on the first floor, but we'd definitely recommend asking to sit on the second floor as the music is a lot less loud and it's much less crowded. Made a reservation for dinner on a Saturday night and it was pretty packed. The interior was chic and there's a note that mentions they specialize in food from jeju. For 2, we ordered a small galbi jim with the addition of the bokkeumbap at the end and an order of the bossam. The food came relatively fast and the side dishes were pretty unique. The spicy and slightly candied rice cake and braised egg were new to me as side dishes in US restaurants but they were good. However, the rice cake was not unlimited and I doubt the egg would be as well but the kimchi, fish cake, and cucumber were. The portion of the bossam was pretty small for the amount that was served and it was alright, not bad but I've had better. I did like the fact that they included pieces of seasoned raw squid legs. The galbi jim portion was also small for the price, I don't think it was worth $70 for what we were served. The flavor was good but the meat lacked tenderness at the time the waiter said it was ready to eat. After letting it sit to cook for longer, it was definitely better and more tender but a few pieces still seemed to fall flat. When we had a few pieces of meat left, the waitress came to cook the bokkeumbap with the remaining sauce, meat and peppers. The rice was flavorful and hit the spot at the end. The servers were very attentive with filling the water and were considerate of our preferences while cooking the fried rice. Overall 3.5/5 but I probably would not intentionally seek to visit again. read more
