As Kapaa residents, this has been a favorite go-to for us for many years, including hosting many visitors there for a good meal. Breakfast today was a (hopefully!) rare exception. My food was barely warm, and only slightly better after being sent back to heat up. My partner's spinach scramble was kind of unrecognizable as an egg dish- maybe a pile of cooked veggies and colorless eggs mixed after each was cooked ? topped with unmelted cheese. Service was fair. My first impression walking up the stairs from the highway side, was there was an unappetizing smelly bar odor & it seemed dirty. I felt a bit better walking through the restaurant, as it looked at least decent & I could no longer smell that old beer smell. Our server was nice, but seemed disorganized/flustered & so service was really slow. It took us quite awhile to get the beers we ordered. He finally delivered them, and we decided to order right away to avoid another long delay. It still took the food quite awhile to get to us. We ordered one of the specials - the Mediterranean Plate. This dish is very strange. It was a weird combination of pickled beets, chopped tomatoes, kalamatas, (and had a lot of liquid in the bottom of the bowl), served with toast with lots of melted cheese (I think maybe Parmesan?), and a scoop of hummus on the side. We could only eat a little of it, as it was just too weird. The best part of this plate was the hummus. Next we had the spicy Thai wrap, which was actually pretty tasty. I wouldn't really call it spicy, and it wasn't really anything to write home about, but it was flavorful. We had the side of waffle fries, and those were really good. This place is a dated (atmosphere a bit funky) but don't let that fool you. The menu selection is incredible, the ahi was fresh off the boat delicious and perfectly seared. I am a picky eater and I loved my meal. The papaya salad provided a perfect balance of spice and tang! Our entire party was pleased and satisfied. My son got the bacon bacon burger OMG -HUGE! My husband ordered the ahi tostada which was garnished with fresh perfectly ripe local, avocado! The waitress was kind, attentive and friendly with everyone. I watched as she tended her tables and she was on top of it! She was a hard worker. The cook even came out to check on us and make sure we liked everything. I truly recommend this spot. This was the worst service I've ever had dining on the island. We ordered 2 omelettes and an oatmeal for our 1 yo (which was an AM STARTER) we waited for over 30 minutes and still no food! Our baby ended up crying because he was so hungry and our server had the nerve to say "sorry your baby's crying" under her breathe when we asked why it's taking so long. So we decided to just take everything to-go. Of course, once we got our food packed in boxes they were COLD. Omelette was super cold it felt like it's been out for at least 10 minutes. What's weird is that the oatmeal was warm? Isn't that an AM STARTER which is why it should've came out FIRST? This was a total WASTE OF TIME. The food sucked we were better off making breakfast at home. oh, almost forgot. Their place is DIRTY. When we got a high chair I wiped it down with a baby wipe and the wipe was COVERED in DIRT. The food quality is still great, but please be aware that they're currently closed on Monday and close at 4pm on all days and they're not serving dinner (happy hour is currently 3-4 as of September 2021). We got brunch here before heading to the airport on our last day and were very impressed with the service! Got seated at a breezy booth with ocean view and enjoyed some tasty guava mimosas. Our waitress was kind enough to warn us that portions are generous (seriously, a stack of pancakes could feed a small army), otherwise we would have seriously over-ordered because everything looked good. My husband and I visited this restaurant, twice, while we were on vacation in April 2019. The first visit was on 04/20 at about 1230 pm. We were referred to Olympic Cafe by Amy who works at Pono Kai Resort. The place was pretty dead for lunchtime on a Saturday so we got a nice table on the open side and our waiter was right on us. We ordered drinks; I got a fabulous Mai Tai and my husband got a diet soda. Our menu items were a kahlua pork burrito and a bbq chicken sandwich. Both items were really good. The burrito was quite large and my husband said it was one of the best he's had. The chicken sandwich was average but a good average and I would order it again. The fries were big wedges and very tasty. It was a very pleasant experience which is why we went back a second time. We went for breakfast on Saturday 04/27 and it was, again, pretty dead so we got another table on the open side. Our waitress was right on us and drinks were ordered (just sodas). We then placed our menu order and ordered the Hawaiian sweetbread french toast and breakfast burrito with no ham. Just like last time, our orders were out pretty fast but the food wasn't as good. My burrito was huge but it was open-ended so you couldn't pick it up. The only ingredients in my burrito were eggs, cheese, and potatoes (which was what I wanted) but the potatoes were old, overcooked, and tasted bad. I picked a few out of my burrito and let our waitress know but she only offered to bring out new potatoes instead of offering to remake my meal. The potatoes were inside the burrito! The tortilla of the burrito wasn't soft and tasted old. My husband was pleased with his french toast and shared it with me since I didn't eat my burrito and left it on my plate. The french toast was amazingly good and even served with a coconut syrup! Plus, the portion was huge. I would go back here again because, overall, it's a good average place. read more

Good and bad experience here. We came for dinner one night. Large menu to choose from since you can order from the lunch menu during dinner too. The food was really good and there were even left overs to take home. Service was good and everyone was friendly. The beer was also cold and hot the spot! We decided to come for breakfast a few days later and we had a horrible experience. There were 5 of us and most tables for 4. The hostess was clearly annoyed that she had to push 2 tables together. She then decided to make us wait while she cleaned off a larger table. She wiped 1/4 of the table off and then left. There were cup marks on the table and empty sugar packets on the seat. We waited for someone to come then for quite some time. When the waitress finally came she stopped mid order to talk to someone else. There is also no kids menu and they are not willing to accommodate you for a child's meal. We ended up leaving before we finished ordering. We came here on our first night visiting Kauai. The view of long balcony with people seating along it, was what lure us to try the place. Walked upstairs, and requested to be seated along the balcony. Friendly staff granted our wish and enjoyed the view for the rest of our dinner. I ordered a margarita, but didn't like it so I sent it back. Bartender was cool and got me a different drink in a minute. Ordered our food and it came in a timely manner. They served generous portion of food, so if you eat like a bird like me, keep that in mind. I had Ahi and it was good. My friend heard that this place is great for breakfast so we decided to comeback the next day for brunch. Pretty laid back staff as expected. Our server during brunch was excellent, he was very efficient. Highly recommended when visiting Kauai. read more

Our favorite place to grab drinks and food in Kauai! We had breakfast, lunch and dinner here in our few short days in Kauai. We even drove from Princeville to have breakfast here on our last day. Loco moco with friend rice - woah, so good French toast - to be honest, a bit dry Cashew chicken dinner - SO DELISH, we craved it the next day Tex Mex wrap - one of my favorite breakfast burritos. I'd passed by Olympic Café in Kapaa during my stay at a nearby resort and had perused the menu online before deciding on lunch here on our last full day of vacation. My boyfriend and I spent the morning kayaking and hiking and were HUNGRY. It's got a bar type ambiance but it's pretty cool that it's up on the second floor with open windows and nice breezes. The menu isn't particularly innovative or fancy-it's just basic sandwiches, wraps and salads. I opted for the vegetarian wrap with added tofu and macaroni salad on the side. No complaints-hardy portions, fresh veggies, good flavor. It made me wish I'd come here for lunch a few more times during my Kauia trip. Let me start by saying that they have the best French fries I have ever, in my 58 years, tasted. I think they use golden potatoes instead of russet because they tasted like no other fry. Their pork is fantastic, the pancakes are fluffy and delicious, and the menu offers a variety of choices. We come here several times every year we visit Kauai. We enjoy the fact that we can come off the beach to eat and don't feel out of place or under-dressed. I've never had an alcoholic beverage at the Olympic but I love the food here. read more

After arriving at LIH, doing a Costco run, picking up Jim and Erin, and checking into the Pono Kai Resort, the 4 of us (including Gayle) walked over to downtown Kapaa looking for Lunch. the Olympic Cafe was upstairs and with a nice street-side view. The restrooms were downstairs on the backside. The prices reminded me of Iceland, another Island culture where logistics to bring in goods and services cost a little more. As such, the menu prices here and every other restaurant we visited were a certain percentage higher. The markup was not outrageous, but simply noticeable and something we would need to normalize. We sat at the view and enjoyed catching up. The menu had a lot to offer as did the bar. We chose a predicable combination of sandwiches, fries, and salads and it was all pretty tasty. Of course, we were really hungry too. Service was fast and friendly. We had nicer meals during our visit to Kauai, but nothing quite matched the funky casual vibe that started out our family vacation so well. read more

Great spot for a quick pupu and pau hana! While in Kapaa doing some shopping we stopped in for a pau hana. We were very happy to get a frosty Long Board and some coconut shrimp for a pupu. I will NEVER come to this place again and would give it zero stars if I could. Had lunch there (well almost) very recently. This is the filthiest place!!! It would be disgusting if there wasn't Covid but in times of the pandemic they should probably be fined at a minimum or closed down by the health department, to whom I will be reporting them btw. 1. The waiters and waitresses for the most part had their masks under their chins. When I asked our waitress to put hers on she gave me the nastiest look. 2. The menus were filthy. 3: The condiment bottles were filthy. 4. I watched them clean the table in front of ours when the party there left and it was minimal. Wiped the table top with a dirty rag. And that was it - no sanitizing of the chairs, condiment bottles etc. I've lived here for quite some time and I have never given a local business a bad review - especially now when they are struggling. Hands down the worst service we've had on the island, or in years for that matter. We're a friendly couple, always down to sit at the bar where we usually are served a bit quicker and can spin some stories or get some tips from our bartender/servers... We came in on a Thursday afternoon and sat at the bar. We weren't greeted by the bartender at all, other than her asking if we knew what "we wanted". Dude ordered a burger and I got the fish tacos. The burger was cooked really nicely and he enjoyed it, the fries were awesome. My tacos were warily mistaken for chicken because the fish was cooked so hard. It was basically a giant pile of over cooked fish on tortillas that had become soaked by their pineapple salsa, rice and beans and a large piece of grilled banana on top. It wasn't something I'd ever recommend- especially considering we are on an island surrounded by good fish. We each had a beer and once our food arrived we were not spoken to again at all. Our bartender didn't so much as remove our dirty plates or ask us if we'd like another beer before she plopped down the bill. She made sure to try and eek out a thank you before she left. I understand we all have our days, but she had no problem chatting it up with her coworkers while she treated us like we were not at all welcome. Way to represent paradise or be thankful for the tourists who are in fact, responsible for your livelihood if you're in the service industry... It's too bad Olympic occupies such an awesome location, because plenty of restaurants would fill those shoes so much better.
