This restaurant was good - great menu, nice sized portions, great staff, easy seating and parking, relaxed vibes. I needed something on the healthier side after all the Hawaiian fare we'd been indulging in, and this hit the spot. I wish we would have found this place earlier in our stay.

Onion rings

I know when we came here before the service wasn't the best. Thought we'd give it another try...Hubby ordered the ahi & katsu plate and I got the Gouda Burger. Food is always good, but...our server brought my burger with fries instead of the up charge of onion rings. She had me transfer my burger to a small plate so she could take the fries back. When the onion rings took longer than expected, she brought me a small plate of fries to compensate. Never checked to see how we were doing, didn't refill our drinks. She could've notified us that her shift was ending and checked to see if we needed anything...instead, she spent her time talking to people at the bar and texting. Food 4/5, service could be better. The server who took over was nice and attentive.

Food was very good but the service was extremely lacking. We were seated immediately, it was moderately busy at 1130 and there were PLENTY of workers. It took at least 5-10 to get a drink order and another 10 to get our drinks. We had 3 children under 3 so being quick with ordering is pretty important. Our orders were taken 20 min after being seated. The food came out relatively fast except for oatmeal.... That came out when most of the party had finished. There was no apology for slow service--so I figure it was probably normal. There was another party that was waiting to pay as they had an excursion to make, so we were not the only ones. Everyone was friendly enough just not efficient at all. If you have tons of time, the breakfast Banana Mac Nut Pancakes, Kimchi friend rice, scramble, and breakfast burrito were solid.

It was OK. We had a number of things: An omelette, scramble, pancakes, and combination breakfast. The food was pretty solid. Service was fine. Coffee left some things to be desired. Great open-air seating, though with that came a cleanliness issue. The whole place could have used a power wash. The tables were sticky. It's hard to find a good breakfast in Kauai; this was decent.

We came here for drinks and dinner. We had a Mai Tai, dinner and dessert. Great view from above and service was quick and friendly. We forgot to take photos of our meal but everything was delicious. We recommend coming here.

One of my family's favorite stops! Cute cafe with a causal feel. The service was great. I had the fish taco plate and it was so good and fresh! And the grilled plantain on top was delicious! My family was there for a week and we came back three times on our visit.

Fried calamari

The menu was overwhelmingly large! My husband and I stopped here after a long and muddy hike on Sleeping Giant close by. Ambiance was a standard American bar feel but with a vamped up menu. Fair pricing. We ordered fried calamari, a wrap and a salad topped with tuna salad. Portions were large for the main dish. My wrap (pictures) reminded me of a sushi burrito essentially. Service was quick. We arrived at 2:30 after checking hours that they closed at 4:00. I noticed they started turning patrons away at 3:00 and turning chairs upside down on tables as if to signify they were closing soon. Not sure if this is the norm or not. It was a slow day for business and incredibly rainy. We were back through there a few days later, nicer weather and they looked packed. Would definitely recommend for a quick lunch spot with lots of options for everyone!

Tuna Salad Wrap

Food: Tuna Salad Wrap (Specials) with with melon - Onion can be too strong for some Chicken Avocado Club with fries - A bit on the dry side - Not much condiments Overall the food is fresh, and the portion is pretty big, that is enough for those who aren't as hungry or don't eat much to share. Coffee and guava juice is good. Brittnay the server was great, and the food came out pretty prompt. Great place for casual bite and dining, overlooking the main road. The booth seating cushion can use some update as it's pretty torn.

I ate breakfast here 3x. Each time the veggie omelette was loaded with a mix of fresh perfectly cooked green veggies like broccoli, onions garlic and was perfect to share. Country potatoes were well seasoned and the side of papaya was a great plenty. If you are a larger eater enjoy it for yourself. 2 mornings they were playing a nice mix of 70s tunes and the window seats had a lovely breeze. All of the servers we met were kind, upbeat and in general seemed to like their job which says a lot. Looking for a more healthy breakfast that's a good value come here.

The food is delicious here. Had the Loco Moco and the gravy made here is awesome. The staff was very friendly here and had a very aloha vibe. It is located on the 2nd story; with great views of Kapaa. My wish would be the eggs to be cooked better. Ordered over easy eggs and were cooked all the way through. I was really hungry and so I didn't say anything but the over all food is good. Just hoped my eggs were the way I wanted.

A large menu to choose from and they boast they have the best breakfast on Kauai and I don't think I agree. I do say it was a nice breakfast but it has a lot of things like "absolutely" no changes or add ons. Not overly friendly. But the people were efficient. The place reeked of the. Leaning solution they used which made me nauseous. I wasn't able to finish my meal. I had an egg scramble and hubby had a Denver omelette. Both were served with chunky style potatoes and all was under seasoned. Coffee was strong and it's a fun Hawaiian themed place. Try it;)

What fish is used in the fish tacos?

I believe they use fresh fish, so it changes from day to day.

We started with the Furikake Fries, which were packed with flavor and the perfect way to kick off the meal. For burgers, we ordered the Hapa Burger and the Kenji Burger, and both were outstanding. The ingredients were fresh, the flavors were unique, and every bite lived up to the restaurant's reputation. The food was so good that we ended up ordering a Lobster Burrito as a second round just so we could try more of the menu. It was a great decision and did not disappoint. If you're looking for a spot that combines creative island-inspired flavors with high-quality ingredients, Kenji Burger is a must-visit. It definitely lived up to the hype.

The bun was soft and delicious, and the chicken itself was juicy, tender, and full of flavor. The coleslaw on it really tied everything together and added a nice crunch and freshness. We also tried the truffle burger, and that one was the standout. It felt a bit more "fancy" than your typical burger, really rich and flavorful with melted cheese, arugula, etc. That one was easily the best item we had. The fries were crispy, golden, and well-seasoned, rounding out the meal nicely.

Popular menu items include ahi katsu 10/10, chili pepper chicken 9/10, and Hawaii's own- loco moco (not a huge fan in general). They offer a variety of other options, including poke, ramen, and sandwiches, with convenient takeout and delivery available. It's definitely a local favorite due to its generous portions, authentic Hawaiian cuisine and friendly service. We ordered the fried chicken and poke combo with wonton chips and the ahi katsu (my absolute fav). The ahi was fried to perfection- crispy on the outside while rare and tender on the inside. The sauce on the katsu was absolutely fire!!! So good! Macaroni salad was creamy and delicious. And the rice was perfect. Obviously, you cannot visit Hawaii without having some of their poke- always fresh and delightfully tasty. The marinade was savory and packed with flavor.

Its right off a main road and you cannot miss it. Parking lot was a bit small, but there was plenty of parking. AMBIANCE: When I went there was plenty of seating. A bit dead, but I also did go pretty early. There were a bunch of decor of older American pop culture like Bruce Lee, Chuck Norris, etc. But also Hawaiian themed decor (obviously). SERVICE: You gotta walk up to the front to order. I was approached almost immediately as soon as I walked up to the menu on the screen. The girl working was super friendly and welcoming. I made my order and she gave me a pager for when my food was ready. FOOD: I ordered the chili pepper chicken, which was recommended from the girl at the counter. My friend ordered the ahi katsu. The chili pepper chicken was good! It was crispy and extremely flavorful. It was slightly too salty for my taste, but luckily the rice does help balance it out. Some of the crispness was sacrificed for the sauce, but it was overall still pretty crispy. I loved that they used boneless chicken thigh. I was expecting bones or lots of breading but it actually had a perfect ratio. I wasn't much a fan of the mac salad. It was like a mix of mac and potato salad, but more like a potato salad. I'm not big on potato salad, so that makes sense. My friend's ahi katsu was alright in my opinion. The sauce that's on it was good and enjoyed all the flavors. The tuna was just a bit overcooked to my liking, but idk how else one would make a katsu without overlooking it too much. Maybe bread the fish and freeze it before frying? Idk man, I'm not a chef lol but the tuna would definitely be better if it was less cooked. OVERALL: Honestly, I would still come here again. I still enjoyed the meal and the service was pretty quick. Both items were both worth trying. All the flavors were there and the little things I didn't like were just personal preferences. Its a great place to pick up a lunch plate and enjoy it at the beach.

For dinner, we ordered the Hawaiian pizza and chef's veggies to share. The pizza was topped with kalua pork, pineapple, scallions, and a unique sauce. Pretty good. We wanted to eat some greens so we asked about the chef's veggies. It was roasted broccoli, bell pepper, and squash. Delicious and seasoned well. For drinks, I ordered a green-tini and my mom got a virgin lava lava flow. I actually preferred her drink over mine. The green-tini had a nice kick to it. Can definitely taste the jalapeño. The virgin lava lava flow was sweet and creamy. Perfect way to end the night! The restaurant and bar definitely get crowded, but there's plenty of space inside and outside. You can get a nice view of the beach. The weather is always good, so we sat outside. The bartender was also super kind and checked on us multiple times to see if we needed anything else. It can feel a little touristy, but I still think it's worth a visit.

Lava Lava Beach Club is absolutely worth visiting for the overall experience…read more The location is spectacular--right on the ocean with beautiful outdoor seating, tables overlooking the beach, and even swings where you can relax while enjoying the view. They also have lawn games to keep you entertained while waiting for your table, which makes the wait much more enjoyable. We didn't have a reservation and waited about 30 minutes, but it wasn't a problem. We grabbed cocktails at the bar, and they were outstanding. They are definitely on the expensive side, but they were beautifully made, well-balanced, and worth the splurge. The atmosphere is what really makes this place special. Between the oceanfront setting, live music, and friendly, attentive service, it's a wonderful place to spend an evening. The food, however, was a bit of a mixed experience. I ordered the coconut shrimp, and unfortunately they were overfried--quite dark and a little too crispy for my taste. My husband enjoyed his teriyaki steak with rice, so that was a much better choice. We also tried the calamari, which was just okay. The pieces were small, heavily breaded, and fried. I've definitely had better calamari elsewhere. Overall, I think you're paying as much for the incredible location, atmosphere, and service as you are for the food. I'm glad we went, and I would recommend visiting at least once for the beautiful setting, tropical cocktails, and live music. Just know that, in our experience, there are other restaurants on Kauai where the food is the real star. Would I return? Yes--for the view, the cocktails, and the atmosphere. For the food alone, I'd probably explore some of Kauai's other excellent local restaurants first.
