Kristin was an absolute nightmare. We came in around 815 on the first Sat of the month so it was busier than usual. We ordered drinks and they came out fast and our first app was quick, everything was good at that point. But then it went downhill FAST. Our food took 45 min for two dishes (of four) to come out, with NO WORD from Kristin about the delay, she didn't even stop at our table to refill waters once. After another 20 min Kristin comes by and asks us what was missing... ..... ........ We finally get our other two dishes 30 min after the first two dishes had arrived. We got an ahi furikake that was properly brown. It had been sitting for over an hour to have oxidized to that color and when we asked Kristin about it she snapped at us saying "it's fresh" and slammed down the silverwear (which we never got when we sat down...tf, am I supposed to eat with my hands?). We saw her then go to the busboy and pointed at us and he came as a hype boy, literally just tried to talk up our shit meals, it was SO Awkward. Kristin comes back sassy as shit mad at us because we clearly were annoyed with the whole situation and told us she could get the manager so we said okay. The manager comes by and we explained the entire interaction with her and the massive delay of food with ZERO communication from anyone. He just says okay I'll comp your two dishes and first round of drinks. He goes to the bar to fix the tab and SENDS KRISTIN BACK WITH THE CHECKS. And she shoves the new checks down and snaps again at us with so much attitude "I only told the busboy to come ask if you needed boxes" (WHICH HE DIDN'T DO... He complimented our dishes and walked away it was sooo weird) Don't tell us you'll get the manager and then be mad about it, and as a manager don't tell the server what we said and then send her back to us...how unprofessional is that! Food/drinks: The drinks were strong and tasty. The calamari was okay, the marinara sauce left a weird taste in my mouth. The avocado brie sandwich was bland and unimpressive. The Thai Pasta was alright and a huge portion. The ahi furikake wasn't touched bc it was a weird purple color. The coconut ahi sandwich was on a bun that looked straight out of McDonald's, and was just boring. I was so done with the whole situation I took two bites and was ready to leave and chuck the whole dish. It was just plain boring. Safeways ahi is so much better. The whole dinner could have been saved if Kristin wasn't so rude. We are so chill and didn't need our meal comped but we were so mad at how rude our server was that we insisted on a manager and now I'm spending my evening writing this long review. read more

Food is good and this place was centrally located for our stay at Pono Kai condos. Upon sunset/afternoon from the east side of the restaurant the sun was very intense. It's on a second floor and it is open air from both sides, but you have a great view of the street and intersection below. Full bar with about six or more beers on tap. Servers were friendly and we had the same one about three times or more. There was a bus man and he was friendly, attentive and caring too but not bothersome. The bathrooms are in a key pad controlled room for men and women. I'm guessing this is because of all the transients around, but of all the transients we saw including those in the camp on the beach across from our ocean view room they never bothered us and were friendly which was a nice change from what we are use to our area. We came here for lunch and our server, (can't remember name but he was new and from Minnesota) was really nice and did a good job but that is the only positive thing I have to say about this place. I had a avocado, brie and sun dried tomato on sourdough appetizer because they ran out of sourdough bread for the panini. The sourdough bread it came on was not toasted, dried out and there was no sun-dried tomato unless you count a red smear on top of the avocado. It was sprinkled with some weird herbs that just didn't taste good at all. My mom had the blackened ono sandwich and this poor fish died a couple times as it was severely overcooked. It was so dry it was hard for her to choke down. My husband ordered the Kauai wrap and said he didn't want any cheese because he is vegan. It came with cheese but he didn't want to be wasteful so he picked out the cheese. When the manager came to check on our table, my husband said to him (very nicely I may add), "Our server is great and I know he is new but I want you to know that I ordered my wrap with no cheese. A lot of vegans are really strict and would have been mad to get cheese. You may want to let him know this for the future". The manager said "Thanks for coming in" and walked away!!! WHAT???!!!! We couldn't believe his attitude. We didn't want anything just wanted to let him to be able to talk to his new server. We certainly could have complained about my food and my mom's food as neither one of us finished our meals. Came here for breakfast and it was just okay. (Something about it does make it feel very touristy.) I had the kalua pork, 2 eggs, and rice. The kalua pork was pretty standard luau fair. I'm pretty sure they gave me more than 2 eggs because that portion was HUGE! Some chicken must have laid some pretty hefty eggs. I enjoyed sitting up top and watching the cars go by. My sister was disturbed by the number of local feathered friends flying in and out of the establishment. I didn't mind, but I can understand how germophobes would question the cleanliess. read more

Breakfast today was really bad. We ordered the Brie & avocado omelette w/ bacon & the California omelette and both were really bad. They put whole slices of bacon in the omelette which made it really hard to eat. They were super bland and cool when they were delivered. Also the potatoes were super oily and soggy. Have been here before but many years ago. Hard to find as not very good signage but recognized the porch like environment from the street where I saw people sitting. Had a bar and lots of high top tables and regular tables and booths. Very rustic and definitely something you would expect on an island near the beach. They have a pretty diverse menu with lots of choices for everyone. Happy hour for drinks and pupus from 4pm to 7pm. Select appetizers not on the menu were all just $6 and pretty good size plates. Service was good but our sandwiches came out before our appetizers and then within 3 minutes we had everything on our table at once. Not much time to enjoy the appetizers. We had the coconut shrimp and potstickers which were both yummy and came out steaming hot. I had a Brie, avocado and sun dried tomato grilled sandwich which came with 1 side and I chose vole slaw. It came with a healing portion of cole slaw and sandwich came with a remoulade sauce that brought the sandwich all together. My friend had the Mediterranean wrap which was huge and got her side of papaya. The only downside was the flies. We spent most of our meal swatting flies to keep them off our food. We were sitting right on the edge overlooking the street so not sure if others were experiencing the same problem. Really really dirty. I can't believe it is allowed. You could run your fingernail across the floor and scratch a line in the thick ingrained dirt. The chairs were filthy. So so gross. Imagine what the kitchen looks like! No one seemed to be in charge either. Just seemed like a bunch of girls wandering about enjoying themselves. Our server forgot to put our order in, so when we chased our lunch 45 minutes after we ordered it, she bothered to let the kitchen know. We sat there the whole time and no one waited on us, not even to refill drinks. She didn't even try and make it right. This was our usual spot to hit up for breakfast. The cafe is on the second story of a gift shop and is all open air. The wait staff is phenomenal! We even came here for dinner and drinks a few times as most of the bars and restaurants close early and this place is the only bar we found to stay open late. The coffee is so good I didn't even miss my Starbucks. All the food is pricey on the entire island but they give you so much food we quickly learned to share- especially if it was fruit or pancakes (they are the size of a grown mans head here) Definitely check this place out you wont be sorry! read more

Like other reviewers before us, we agree- DO NOT ORDER FISH HERE. They have NO idea how to cook ahi, except to amazingly overcook it into oblivion. The kahlua pork, on the other hand, was good. Service was average, semi-rushed. View from the edge seats was nice, but I really wouldn't go back here. Eating at the Olympic Cafe has become a yearly tradition for us. The second floor cafe, with open windows, overlooks Main Street running through downtown Kappa. Dinner menu prices range from 12-20 dollars snd the portions are generous. One of my favorites is the Kauai pig plate. I don't care for the rice but no worries for one dollar you can substitute garlic mashed potatoes. Don't forget to order the Kauai pie ice cream cake for dessert. I've been to Olympic cafe tons of times. The food is good, nothing you couldn't find anywhere else. I do like their happy hour appetizers since they aren't on the menu ($6) and I must admit that their burritos are really good. Their monster burrito is my favorite. A pro is that their drinks actually taste like they have alcohol even the fruity ones. But I will say there is one problem every time I come to eat here. The servers act like they hate their jobs. Maybe it's just cuz I happen to go around happy hour which is 3-7 I believe. But I always have to ask what the happy hour apps are. They are never just told to the table. Also I had no idea they do a taco bar on aloha Friday until I was already done eating. That would have been nice to know. Also we had no idea who our server was. She came took our order. We saw the food runner and busser more than her. She came right as our meal was almost done to check on us. We got another drink. Then we didn't see her until after she dropped the bill and didn't even offer us another drink and we disregarded dessert. Will I come back again? Sure. Maybe try that taco bar next time. Would this be a place I would bring my friend if they were visiting for a week? Probably not. So many other amazing restaurants on the island. read more

Breakfast was good. I needed "boring" this morning and surprisingly enough the steel-cut oats was good Walt and Jon had eggs, potatoes and a quesadilla dish that was super good for them. The black tea was loose tea leaves in a French press and that made it extra fantastic in flavor...I love tea and they definitely do tea right. Went there about 4:45pm today July 13,2020. Food was great, tho the menu has been cut back. My only negative feedback, is a very important one. The only worker wearing a face covering was the hostess. Our waiter had his around his neck. Tho he did speak to us from a good distance.
