    Steak au poivre
    Gary G.

I was looking for a nice restaurant near our house to celebrate our anniversary and a co-worker mentioned those in Fairfax. Despite driving through Fairfax periodically, we've never stopped to experience its offerings and I figured this would be a good time during the work week. I searched Yelp and this restaurant was highly rated so I figured it was a win win. There is a small amount of parking behind the restaurant and a garage across the street with ample parking. I had made a reservation and with a note requesting a quiet table in a nice area which was acknowledged upon our arrival along with your anniversary by Joseph. My wife smiled and felt special that our anniversary dinner meant something more than a typical outing. The restaurant had a lot of availability with only a few other couples present. Joseph did a great handling everyone, providing time, offering suggestions, and following up as needed. I had the steak which I ordered medium and appeared to be cooked a little more than medium, but not a big deal. I enjoyed the steak although wasn't wowed by this thin piece of beef. I thought the few pieces of potato and zucchini were cute but could have been more plentiful. The sauce on the steak was ok although I would enjoyed a seasoned steak even more. All in all, ok-good. My wife had the Branzino which she said was overcooked. Having spent some years in Hawaii, she has a different appreciation for fish these days. The restaurant appeared clean, fresh, and new. I was looking for scratches or deterioration but didn't find anything. Service was really good. Joseph even brought us Creme Brule with a candle to celebrate our anniversary which wowed us. A pleasant evening with great service and ok-good food.

    Old Fashioned on Happy Hour

Dropped by after shopping to Tripp to Fairfax. Parking in the back. Happy hour until 630. Got a muddled Old Fashioned with a kick and a Modelo to start. For dinner I order the Ribeye.which came with potato wedges and a mushroom on top, amazing! The wife's One bar Grill burger had a huge patty and she loved it. Staff were super friendly and the happy hour drinks made it all a perfect experience with relaxing background music. Give them a try.

Their espresso martini I can't believe they have this in the menu Poorly executed Mine from home is in the next photo

This place has a great menu but is confusing The ambiance is just weird Bad elevator jazz music, an uninviting bar area and just an odd vibe. The main courses were good My wife had the burger and enjoyed it and I had the farrow island salmon and it was perfectly cooked The crab croquettes off the tapas menu had very little crab meat and were mediocre at best. Here's where it goes really bad The drinks were horrendous I ordered a dirty martini that tasted like water and vodka and zero brine Served in an unelegant glass with a toothpick and 2 olives The espresso martini -- which is on the menu -- was coffee with cream and a shot of vodka Absolute inexcusable I'm posting a picture along with the one I made when I got home If you put it on the menu you should do it and do it well On to the deserts The backlava was out of an entemans box Dry and uninspiring. My wife had the crème brule which was like a cup of vanilla pudding with some sugar on top that they torched Really, really bad I'd never come back here Weird and they really failed on the stuff that seems tangential to the meal- which wasn't that bad

    Budding rice & orange juice

Had an amazing experience overall! The service was super friendly and attentive , everyone was so polite and made sure everything was perfect The rice pudding was creamy and delicious, and the organic orange juice tasted incredibly fresh Loved the cozy atmosphere and warm hospitality -- definitely coming back again!

Some type of mixed drink we ordered. Cool glass. Great cocktail.

I came here recently with my girlfriend who wanted a drink before we turned in for the night. We ended up staying for three hours as they had a live entertainer who was playing an electric guitar. He had an amazing computer playlist and was so much fun to rock with. If you sit at the bar, you're provided with a complimentary chicken wing, which was good. We ordered a Cuban sandwich appetizer and Chorizo, Manchego, and Olive Skewers. Both were okay, although I doubt I would order the skewer again. I ordered a cheeseburger that was absolutely amazing. My girlfriend ordered creme bulee, which she loved. I drank dirty martini's and a beer. Fantastic martini. My girlfriend had an expresso martini and some type of mixed drink. She loved both. There's a nice ambiance here, although there really weren't many people. The dining section appeared okay, but I'm not sure that I would want to sit down and dine. For my taste, this is a nice bar. The restaurant sits in Old Town Fairfax, and I'm sure it's fun during summer. This is not a cheap place, but it's worth the experience. I'll definitely return when I revisit Northern Virginia.

Large space with plenty of seats

We really liked this place!!! Too bad it's not near our house because it'd be a great watering hole. The people are so friendly and the place is chill. We stopped by after dinner nearby to have drinks at the bar. The drinks were really delicious (handmade pomegranate juice in my cocktail) with a great selection of whiskey and bourbon. The tapas selection is a wide range of 20 yummy small plates. Will is such a good bartender! Best of all, they had this great guitarist named Eric for live music. The volume and tone were so pleasant that even sitting at the bar right next to him, my husband and I could still talk without yelling. We really enjoyed our visit. We had a lot of fun and everyone is really friendly!! If you're in the area you should stop in!!

    Duck

Food - 4 Service - 4.25 Ambiance - 3 Overall it's a solid 3.6.. Food is good, not great. I got the Duck and it was yummy and the skin was crisp, but the sauce is sparse and the chopped potatoes could use more pizzazz. I also feel it could use a little bit of greens or veggies on the plate. Everybody else in my party got different dishes and I felt visually the same for all the other dishes. The drinks were fine, we went early enough for happy hour. One of the few things that separates a good from a great restaurant are the little details like the ice cubes. The old fashioned definitely needed a clear cube. I do give them some points for having one large cube instead of multiple though. I thought the waitress was very friendly, but it took some time to be welcomed at the table, at least 5 minutes went by, possibly longer. I also feel that the ambiance could use work. This is the 2nd or 3rd restaurant at this location, and they never change anything inside. It's a little old and outdated and definitely can use an upgrade. The tables are shaky, and belong in a burger joint, more than the restaurant that this one is trying to be. If you visit, try the parking lot behind the building otherwise you'll have to park across the street in a garage, give yourself at least 5 minutes extra.

My fiance ordered the grilled chicken sandwich and it had raw chicken inside, barely cooked. He did end up getting sick afterwards. The food did take a long time to come out and there was barely any customers inside. Service was okay.

This restaurant is a nice little hidden gem in Old Town Fairfax. I dined here last week with some colleagues after a work meeting. They have a very big menu with tapas style options, and you're bound to find something you like. I ordered the sliders and they were delicious. I also ordered the lamb dish to share and it was really good! The customer service was great and the prices were even better! You can't beat the happy hour specials. One suggestion is they should have some music playing in the background, it was pretty quiet when we were there. I'll definitely be back.

I ordered a smashburger and it was great. Nothing too crazy but very delicious. My brother got the chopped cheese and enjoyed it. The best part was something that we ordered to share, the Chapli Chopped Cheese Loaded fries. It wasn't on their menu boards yet but I had seen it on their instagram and had to try it. It was delicious! I would definitely come back and get those again. It had a great flavor, the sauce was delicious, and the fries were still relatively crispy despite the amount of sauce and toppings. Overall, a great spot that I would recommend to others and will definitely coming back soon!

I know they want to drizzle a zig zag for aesthetics (makes it look really good haha), but the sauce ends up taking over the entire flavor. If they could put less sauce by default I would definitely give this place a perfect rating. I'm in between a 4 star and 4.5 star for this place. Maybe I'll come back one day to try it again and up my rating!

Decided on this little spot in Fairfax town center after having a quick weekend day trip to DC. Really pleasantly surprised with the whole atmosphere of the place. I ordered some pilsner and some other lager on tap from local breweeies. Delicious. Ordered popcorn chicken, pork belly, and some 'real food' - a quick rice bowl with chicken. The fried bites were wonderfully crispy. They have good oil management and felt quite light especially with a swig of a cold lager. The rice bowl was tasty too. Construction was indeed very Taiwanese, and yet... I still felt like I'm in a dive bar complete with all its grunge. So cool They sell 4/6 packs of craft brews here too. Appetizers: - bread basket which came with popover bread was delicious -- this made us hopeful! The bread was soft and fluffy - crispy brussel sprouts - not bad - rosemary garlic fries - nice and crispy Entrees: would recommend the butternut squash risotto. The risotto was deliciously cheesy and savory! We also got the montegro fried chicken salad which was decent but not amazing. It came with a nice Dijon mustard sauce. Items we would not recommend: - crispy tofu with coconut rice = big block of tofu, uncut. It was also not very crispy at all but rather mushy and unseasoned. The rice was ok but could not redeem the unusual tofu serving The waitstaff was friendly but service was very slow; our poor server was running around taking care of many tables so our food came out pretty late; we had to ask for our last dish to be packed in a to go box because it ended up being really dark out (we sat out in the patio area). There is indoor and outdoor seating with a connected parking lot. My favorite items were the butternut squash risotto and the bread basket! I would avoid the tofu. We really loved all of the dishes, but for sure the ravioli with wild asparagus and ramps is one I will remember for a long time. The octopus was also a memorable dish, and the poussin was complex, layer after layer of flavor and the salt level was so good...just perfect food, perfectly executed. Oh, and shout out to the owner's dad, who is in his 90s and makes the bread, a rich sourdough, served warm, that has a 50 year old starter at its essence. Yum. I mean the Foie Gras (sp??) - I don't even really like the stuff, put the way they sauteed it, put it on top of some sort of savory cake and slathered it with this balsamic gastrique - it was like bacon and pancakes smothered in maple syrup just amplified to 100. Bottom line: I would eat this every day (and amplify my weight by 100 too).
