Haven't been here in a few months, and was craving for...you guessed it..the garlic (spicy) eggplant with chicken. Price was still under $10 at $9.75, and with tax came out to $10.21. Paid by debit card, and don't like the feeling of not punching in my code, but signing on the paper receipt (since it is under $25). I'd gladly punch in my code for security reasons.. Substantial feel, so hot it melted the plastic bag on one corner of the container as piping steam came out after i picked it up from my passenger seat...gotta be careful if you carry this for a while at the grab handles, may want to put one hand directly under the plate (though the heat will be felt). This place shares the parking lot with Gourmet Liquors which is diagonally across the street from Longs on King St They are like a Chinese / local plate lunch kind of place. You have your rice and Mac salad on most entrees. They give pretty big portions in which you might get two meals out of a plate depending how hungry you are. Some of my favorites are the Garlic Eggplant Chicken ($9.35 reg / $7.25 mini). BBQ Chicken ($9.10 reg / $6.95 mini). I ask for no skin on my chicken as I'm trying to be a little healthy. Then there is the BBQ Mixed Plate ($11.00) and it comes with BBQ Short Ribs, BBQ Chicken and Teriyaki Steak. They also do catering as well and will do party pans. 3rd visit in 2 months. Chicken Katsu is good, fresh and crisp, but pass on their katsu sauce and substituted Bulldog sauce. Rice was ok, pass on mac salad and thought I ordered a sub of House Noodles, but they gave me a whole separate order. We shrugged out shoulder and tried to eat it but it had an off-putting taste and we ended up tossing the whole, giant thing. We will return for the Katsu in the future and avoid the house noodles. This was one of my childhood favorite places when I lived in town. I tried just about everything, chicken katsu, garlic ahi, shrimp burger, shoyu pork, house noodles you name it lol. They also cater which I've took advantage of because everything is so yum and affordable. They're normally really quick and efficient. It's small inside so it can get a little crowded when it's busy and there's only about 5 parking spaces or so but people normally just run in and out. There are a few tables to eat inside and it's clean for the most part haha. I know I can always count on one plus one to gimme dat nostalgic, hometown, plate lunch feels. 10/10 recommend 10/10 will be back!!! read more

I ordered the seafood combo for about $13. For an extra 50 cents you can make it healthy with brown rice and toss salad. The chicken was a little salty, the shrimp was good and the fish was really good. I might just go back and order a fish plate. The fish was tender inside and had a crispy fried coating. The first time I went here, I had the BBQ chicken and Hamburger steak. I didn't care for the hamburger steak but the BBQ chicken was good. I think I went there again after the and had the mochiko chicken. It was pretty good but it had a lot of skin in my plate. I guess that's the luck of the draw. Catering review My work orders food for our students from 1+1 all the time and it's tasty, consistent and reliable so when it was time to cater a birthday party, I knew where to head! With 50+ guests to feed, we looked at the catering menu for a package that would work for us. The packages for 50-60 people included large pans of a handful of items. Instead, we went with two packages (B & C) which were each intended to serve 25-35 people. I ordered in person during a time when I knew they wouldn't be too busy. I prepaid. I left with a very detailed receipt. I confirmed a day before and they confirmed on the day of the party. Delivery was actually 15 minutes early and food was piping hot and super tasty. (The roast pork with gravy was super ono!) Because we ordered two packages that were intended to stand alone, we ended up with two pans of noodles, two orders of BBQ chicken, 80 pieces of fried shrimp, and were supposed to have two pans of mac salad -- one which they were nice enough to let us swap out for white rice. It was a LOT of food but worked out perfectly since we wanted everyone to eat a lot, pack food to take home, and still had plenty of leftovers for ourselves the next day. And, a MAJOR PLUS: they delivered all this food to us downtown for just $30. Totally worth it! 1+1 is a tremendous value, an efficient operation, and serves delicious food. In terms of taste and price this place is a winner! Their garlic chicken and eggplant is so good. Not something you can make at home and You cannot go wrong with their prices. However, ordering food can be tricky. It's a hit or miss if they'll answer when ordering takeout. I called twice and got no answer so I decided just to go in and order. On the plus side, it didnt take long for my order to come in. On a more negative note, parking is a nightmare (another reason why phone order would have been nice). We got one, two item combo and were both full at the end of the meal. I found this place on yelp and they have most of the staples that you would find/order at any plate lunch place. Check out the menu and pictures and see if this is the kind of place you would like to visit. It was perfect for what I was looking for. There is some seating if you want to eat in, but it is nothing fancy. Just a table with chairs to eat. The parking lot is small, but lots of cars fit, when people started making their own spots. We like to get stuff for potlucks here. They give mounds of food and everyone seems to like it. The Teri chicken fried rice is a meal in itself. Huge chunks of chicken and kamaboko. I personally don't think it's dry (compared to somewhere like Panda), you can tell from the photo. Another favorite is the garlic basa and chicken. So moist. Roast pork, mochiko chicken, chicken wings, all their fried rice, and garlic basa are all good and are our go-to's. The only thing that isn't so spectacular is their fried noodles. I'd rather go to Leeward or even Zippy's for that. But other than that, everything else is yummy, flavorful, and moist, prices are reasonable, and the service is fast. read more

I got the BBQ short ribs (Kalbi) and my fiancé got the Hawaiian Plate (Lau Lau, Kalua Pig & Cabbage, with Mac Salad) I personal loved the kalbi, it was cooked to perfection. Although, I wish there wasn't as many fat pieces. The rice was kinda dry but it's alright since I was mostly focused on the Kalbi. My fiancé said that the Hawaiian Plate fueled his cravings. He wasn't able to eat it all in one sitting (neither was I with my own food). We were very happy with the portion size especially for two broke young adults that usually orders for potential left overs. The atmosphere was very old school family "drive inn" feels. There menu had a wide selection so I definitely recommend looking at the menu before hand since the menu is directly next to the ordering window. All in all, would definitely go here again! I tried a 3 of the burgers: Double Cheese, Mahi, and Shrimp. both the shrimp and the mahi were simply breaded, deepfried, and set between buns with some tartar sauce; nothing I would order again except on Fridays during Lent :) The Double Cheese burger on the other hand was excellent. Two quarter pound patties, American cheese, lettuce, and thick slices of tomato and onion. Juicy and tasty, served hot off the grill. would definitely go back for the burger. The interior of the place is small and clean with shiny machined metal tabletops which make the place seem even cleaner. Had their Garlic Chicken & Mochiko Chicken in the past and thought it was good and plentiful for the price. Wanted to switch it up a bit because I heard a lot about their tender Roast Pork and the pics of its fall-apart tender morsels drenched in rich dark gravy sold me. If you're going to use frozen unseasoned pork chops that were dry and effing hard to chew, at least give enough gravy to help a girl out. When I lifted up the first pork chop, it exposed the second chop that's totally dry and untouched by gravy. They probably thought they could half-ass things and think I wouldn't know the difference between roast pork vs fried pork chops? Ordering a platter of chicken from here is always a staple for big gatherings and potlucks. They serve up big catering style servings as well as small plate lunch servings of food. On this visit I decided to mix the Teri Chicken Fried Rice and the Shoyu Pork. Very tasty! The Shoyu Pork surprised me because it was red like Kau Yuk and the taste was a little like that. Still it all went well together and I wasn't able to finish the plate (I like to consider myself a big eater). Good portions at reasonable prices? I'll keep coming back for That! Before today's visit, I had only tried the fried chicken wings that people brought to potlucks. I really liked them so I ordered a fried chicken wing plate. A regular sized plate comes with 8 wings, two scoops of rice, and one scoop of Mac salad. Good deal for $9.10! The wings were as good as I remember them! Located 5 minutes away from UH Manoa, it's the perfect place to take the shuttle down or drive down to get a break from school food. The restaurant is small, with 5-6 tables in the adjacent room that's brightened by their orange wall paint. There's an extensive menu board on the wall and the staff is more than willing to help you substitute for certain dishes at an additional price. I've seen my friends eat their lau lau plate and prior to coming there, I wanted to try Helena's but no cigar--there was no parking outside. I took a chance and order a regular plate, which came with 2 scoops of white rice, 1 scoop of mac salad, and a lau lau as big as my hand only for $10-12! We waited in the dining area for our food and after 8-10 minutes, our order was ready!
