If you're like me when you move you recruit the help of a few friends, their truck/van and payment for their help in the form of gratitude, beer and pizza. However, with my recent move (on 4/10/18) I decided to hire professionals--One Shot Move. It was the first time I hired movers and overall I'm glad I did but I learned a invaluable lesson along the way, ask the moving company to use blankets when moving your furniture. Otherwise it will end up scratched like a few pieces of my furniture did. Summary: The quote you get is half what you pay, because everything gets shrink wrapped for about 10 mins, even if you tell them this item is cheap, its fine, just throw it onto the truck, they say no, we have to wrap it in case. so they know the art of adding time. Also caught the guy lying about the time it took to get to my house because i had screenshots, and he nervously fixed the time. Detail: Overall the items arrived without major dents, tho one of the guys was so careless about the property he was throwing his dolly around and left marks on the stairs from his dolly. They broke part of my fridge door trying to squeeze it out of a small door, didn't want to try the other door saying they will have to stop by again (free of charge) to pick it up, i call them today, they said i have to pay another $300 to move the fridge, so basically they lied to me. Funny thing about the fridge the guy wrapped it for about 11 mins, without measuring it, and then had to unwrap it cause it won't clear the door. I mean it, THEY KNOW THE ART OF WASTING TIME! $2/min that's $22 wrapping a fridge, and then another $5 unwrapping a fridge. Finally, one of the guys was so mad at his partner for questioning his numbers, and kept telling him "leave him, i got it" in Russian eluding to the fact that I accepted his bogus time suggestions. I asked the other guy to review it, and he started yelling at him, again saying why is he getting in the way he almost had me fooled. This time, we asked for help unloading our belongings from our storage pod into our two-story home. Two gentlemen arrived at our place ON SCHEDULE and got straight to work. They worked tirelessly unloading two 16 foot storage containers and did it in a little less than 3 hours! Totally made my day. They brought dollies and other equipment to help carry the larger pieces into the home. None of our pieces were bumped against anything and definitely no damage to our floors or belongings. I had previously hired two sets of movers through a company (Uhaul) and they were terrific, prompt, professional, nice, polite and I had no complaints! I hired my last set of movers through OneShotMove and the ladies on the phone were professional and nice. The movers however were rude from the moment they arrived, would not communicate with me, were disrespectful and were careless with my things. I have no idea why Fernando acted the way he did, perhaps he was having a bad day. I would never use this company again since I had to call the office multiple times to get them to tell Fernando to be more professional and to get his act together. The movers let my bike fall down twice and scratched it up. They stated that it would be best to wrap my mattress to protect it, to which I replied "Yes, please wrap it," only to find out that they took it upon themselves to decide no to wrap it and not to mention it to me. Of course this got my temperpedic mattress very dirty in the moving process to which they did not apologize for. Guess the apology would have taken up too much of their time. They were constantly trying to overcharge me for time that they did not actually work for. They rudely demanded I pay in advance for services. They would not communicate with me about standard company policies but rather demanded that I call the office to speak to them about matters, after which I called the office and the lady on the phone was surprised that Fernando wasn't informing me correctly of basic company policies. High Costs: when you hire this company, expect that everything is an additional cost except the movers and the truck. You need garnet boxes, great - extra cost. Fast pack boxes? Extra cost. Can you hear the cash register? It adds up. Where the move gets pricey is if you cannot move right into your new house. Our old house closed escrow before the new house could so we had no where to put our belongings for about 10 days. Everything was loaded into the truck, taken to a storage facility and unloaded. The work meter is still on so you are basically paying to move into storage. When your house is ready - you pay to move out of storage and into your house. Are you seeing why it is so expensive to move with this company? I paid to move twice - from my house to storage and from storage to my house. But that's not the worst of it - YOU ARE CHARGED FOR AN ENTIRE MONTH OF STORAGE. They don't prorate your storage. Our belongings were in 2 units for 10 days and we were charged a full month of rent for each unit. We also packed some of our materials. If you choose to do the same - make sure you mark the boxes that were yours otherwise they will charge you for the box if you decide to keep it. I am lucky in the sense I could afford this hosing and at the end of the day - they have everything you own so you have to pay all the fees whether you like it or not. This company has really gone downhill. My first experience was awesome, seamless, and totally worth the money. I had to pick up at two different locations, I had a ton of things to move, and my movers were done in four hours, moving fast and courteously. THIS time was absolutely terrible. First, the guy charged us 9% tax which he didn't charge previously. Second, they moved SO slow. I had a fraction of what I had to move the first time WITH a giant freight elevator reserved in both places and it took four hours. The distance in location was only one mile. Moreover, the movers ignored my directions and got lost twice. When asked for a discount given how slowly they were working and how they ignored my directions, he told me to take it up with the company. Well, that's great bc I already paid you in cash. This is the last time I'll ever use this unprofessional company. Note - they wedged one of my shoes underneath my front door (without asking permission first) to stop the door from closing. Ok............. Oh yea I forgot to add - lots of positive reviews, right? When I first used the company, they offered a discount if you write a positive Yelp review at the time of payment... yep, they stood there as I wrote a good review before they'd apply the discount. I scheduled a move last week an reserved an appointment for yesterday at 5pm after having a bad experience trying to reserve it with a different moving company. I spoke to a gentleman who was friendly and confirmed the move time of 5pm. I get two confirmation emails prior to the move stating that the reservation is for 5pm. Then, I get a call the day before to confirm the appt and they tell me the time frame is from 5-6pm. So I say, "no, that's not what I was told when I made the reservation OR in any of the emails that were sent to me." I tell them that I am leaving work early in order for the move to happen and that my building requires that we reserve an elevator, which cannot exceed a certain time. The lady I spoke with had no empathy whatsoever and just says I will put a note that you need them there at 5. So, the day of my move I call them 30 mins before 5 to find out where they are and the ETA. No one answers the phone so I leave a message. 30 minutes goes by and I don't get a call back. I have a family member call and leave a vague message requesting a call back to see if they are purposely not calling me back, and they call her back within 5 minutes! Ridiculous, right?! So I call a few more times and still, no one answers. I finally get a call back at 5:05pm and he goes on to say that there is an hour grace period. I explain everything that I told the lady when she called to confirm and told him that they conveniently tell me about the one hour window ONE day before the move so that I cannot switch to another company. Again, no customer service skills. I request for a call back and he says he'll have someone call. I get a call back from the mover at 5:10 saying he will be there in 50 mins and there's traffic. At this point there's nothing I can do. I call the mover again at 5:55pm to get a status update as to where he is and he says it will be ANOTHER 13 mins. Seriously?! So they show up at 6:15pm and at this point I'm nervous because my building will give me a hard time if I don't move my things out in time. Luckily, I didn't move any furniture so we were out by 7pm. But if this was a traditional move with my furniture, I probably would have been told by my building that I would need to continue the move another day. The only reason I added a star was because I felt bad for the movers. They were nice and I'm sure it was the company's fault and not theirs. Moral of the story, DO NOT USE this company unless you want to wait an hour or more after your reservation time! ***update: at 9:51am today called and spoke to Andrew who refused to let me speak with a manager, he was rude, and lied saying that I was told about the one hour window. OneShot moved us on April 1st and it was a nice experience. They subcontract and the company that actually moved our stuff was friendly, fast, and we got a great rate. I'd like to give OneShot a better review but, unfortunately, the 5 stars I was prepared to give was lost on their lack of follow up. During the week after our move, I noticed that an important family heirloom was missing. I am a writer and my grandmother gave me her old manual typewriter from when she was in secretarial school back in the 1940s. It was a treasured item but something I always kept stored away and so I didn't think much about it until I noticed it was missing while unpacking. I called OneShot and spoke to their rep, Josh (who was super friendly and understanding, btw). I explained my situation and stressed how important this typewriter was. He told me he would look into their lost and found and get back to me. It's almost May 1st and no one has yet to get back to me. I know I should call but I'm afraid I already know the answer -- my typewriter is gone. After such a great initial experience, I'm sad to say that I probably will not use or recommend this service in the future. The physical move, price, is one thing... but the lack of follow up on such an important, irreplaceable piece of family history for me is lost -- with no accountability. read more

One Shot Movers?? more like "One Star Movers"! we hired three guys to move a 2 BR apt, five miles away. The three movers came on time, but all three reeked of cigarettes not to mention the fact that none of them spoke any English. The main guy Alek spoke the most english out of the three and was a very hard worker. the other two movers were puny as hell and hardly did any of the heavy lifting. im not joking when I say that at point the 90-pound mover was moving one lamp at a time. ONE LAMP---a friggin desk lamp! all in all, they took about 9 hours to move us and kept asking for water bottles, cig breaks and a lunch break. what really ticked me off was the fact that we had given one of the movers our keycard to the apt (which not only has access to our unit but our entire apt structure). they failed to give it to us back at the end of the move and when they had left, in about 30 minutes, realized that they had our keycard and asked if they can turn around and drop it back off. NOPE. Alek said it was too much traffic and that he would drop it off at a different day. ok fine, we said. Over the next couple of weeks we left multiple texts/voice messages and calls to the corporate office asking for our missing keycard back. RADIO SILENT. Just decided it was better to off to pay our mgmt for new keycards to our apt. None of our personal belongings were damaged, but at one point me and my roommate started to bubble wrap our furniture ourselves since the movers were moving slow as hell. The movers were great, the receptionist that confirmed my appt. was lovely, she talked me out of going with another company due to all the things that were included in their $69 cash and $79 credit for 2 hours and 2 movers. It was $69 for the first hour, with a 3 hour minimum, which was not covered on the phone. Makes sense why they took so long on the drive over to my new apartment which was on 13 miles away and didn't see them for 50 minutes, when I got back in 25. When they were finished and showed me the price I was shocked. I would understand if the price was made clear from the beginning but that simply wasn't true. When the mover called his manager and told him what I was lead to believe, I overheard him call me "f*cking crazy." When he passed me the phone he let me know it was the cheapest I could get for "five star movers" and brought up the fact that he was the business owner. I had to pay with a card since I was not prepared for the $300 they ended up charging me, when they took down my information they said the internet was down and it would go through later. They waited outside my apartment for half an hour and came back in telling me my card didn't work, when in fact they took the number down wrong. Both movers smelled like B.O. and desperately needed a shower. (We were the first move of the day). They seemed slower than most movers and wasn't efficient in the move. I recently had to move furniture 2x in 2 months so in my humble opinion, this team of 2 could have moved faster. For example, they should've brought the 8 items we had to move and line them up near the elevator and bring it down in 1-2 loads. Instead, they brought each item at a time (2 boxes, 1 mattress, 1 bed, 1 coffee table, lamp, vacuum cleaner and trash can). It took them over an hour to load.? Eric and Jacob did a good job today! They came on time and offered substantial discounts, and incredibly fast and to the point. They did not charge for taking breaks, which was helpful for the total. There were various small boxes that they transported in a larger box, which I had to personally unload, otherwise there was a $20 fee per unloading (would've added hundreds). If it's np for you to unload smaller boxes (about 25% of the work), then they're great. If you're expecting it all to be done by them without extra charges.... Look elsewhere. read more

Jahon and Max were great. I appreciated their service. I did take off a star for 2 reasons - (1) they got a ticket by my old apartment and I ended up having to pay an extra $66 dollars to cover it. They packed my whole kitchen and as much as I wanted to help they made sure I didn't have to do much which is great when you're moving. They wrapped everything so all my furniture and items were secured and scratch proof. They worked for 8 hours making sure everything was done and they were very efficient. When I move my stuff out of storage I will definetely be calling them to help me with the move and I will be referring them to anyone who needs to move. I booked these guys 4 times but no more. I booked during Friday, Saturday, Sunday ("Peak pricing"). The lady told me Monday - Thursday are "Off-peak pricing" dates. So now, I needed to move some more stuff on a THURSDAY but was told I have to pay peak pricing because it's towards the end of the month. ..what? They said the first days and last days of the months are also peak pricing. Nice bait-and-switch. Last booking, they sent me people who went on A LOT of smoke breaks. I found out about it when they went missing for about 20 minutes outside and when I came outside, they were smoking while talking on the phone and gestured to me to hold on. ..what? I thought they were keeping tracking of their own breaks and they would deduct it at the end but nope. I had to call in to their boss to tell them about this issue. Summary: Dishonest company.
