Second time here! Always so fast but it's pretty empty. It didn't look as fresh this time compared to my first time. I I mean for $17.29 for this portion I'd say it's pretty good. I wanted to see if they could switch out the roll for another kind but they don't do that. There are tables upstairs but people just buy and go.

Drinks but no food in fridge around 1:20pm

I went here for lunch on a Tuesday recently and there wasn't much of a wait! At this place, you can pick up what packed foods you want at the fridge by the walls and then pay for it at the front, but if you go later during the lunch hours, then the fridge might be a little empty. Anyways, I got the Grilled Lemongrass Pork Bento. The food was good, but it eventually got a little too salty for me as I was eating more of it. I was ok with it being a bit too salty since I was hungry, so maybe that's why it didn't bother me too much. I'd recommend this place! They usually have more food and small grab and go snacks, but during the time I went, they didn't have much available at the fridge. They also have tables here if you decide to eat your meal here. The meal I got here also filled me up, so I was happy about that.

Way better than airport sushi! Your basic quick take out sushi place. Fish tastes pretty fresh, with average quality. The sushi sets are nice since they come with salmon and tuna, and two types of roles. The nigiri slices were slightly on the thinner side and tasted precut, since pieces were a little drier on the edges. Rice was average, neither too moist nor too dry. Set was about $18. Grab and go, or sit for a quick bite. Great when you are on the rush. Dont bring a date..

    Chicken Karaage

Thought this would be a quick-and-go sushi joint, but the only thing you can grab is a soda. Had to order the sushi and wait a few minutes. On one hand it's fresher. But on the other hand, it's not high end sushi anyway so there's not much marginal benefit to waiting for it to be freshly made (versus grabbing it quickly to go). Chicken Karaage: This was the free side that came with a sushi set. Was lukewarm, bordering on cold. And the batter wasn't crispy. Mega Set: The raw tuna and avocado roll with a creamy sauce was tasty and the main highlight. The tuna nigiri was a mixed experience with one piece being tender while the other piece felt overly firm. The salmon nigiri was just ok... and the color seemed a little off. The California roll was kinda bland.

I stumbled upon this place a few weeks ago. I was drawn in by the simple aesthetics, bright pops of color on the wall and lastly, the color shelves of sushi on the far right wall. I grabbed a brown rice unagi onirgi and enjoyed it later in the day. It was yummy, filling and guilt free. Then yesterday, I saw on instagram someone had posted a beautiful meal called "Trust Me Lite" from Sugarfish in Los Angeles. It consisted of 4 tuna mini rolls, 4 crab mini rolls, 4 assorted nigiris and edamame. At sugarfish, this costs $23. This inspired me to get sushi for lunch today and I made my own little "trust me lite" meals for a fraction of the cost! If I got the exact same items as Sugarfish, it would have been about $11 without the edamame. I cant speak to Sugarfish and IKU quality differences, but I would def eat IKU again when the craving hits.

    Deluxe box ($13.99)

It was a 'meh.' I had picked up the deluxe pack for $13.99 that had two types of rolls -- one of which was a shrimp tempura roll -- and six nigiris consisting of salmon, ahi, ebi and unagi. The rolls were decent, but the nigiris were disappointing to say the least. The most charitable way to describe it was that it wasn't disgusting; I ate them all but I wouldn't order them again. I guess I expected a little too much from a pre packaged sushi lunch. However I think the Safeway sushis (yes I've had those too before once, maybe twice) had better nigiris than this. I wouldn't have mind paying $9.95 for a box of rolls but those nigiris were a downer and not worth the premium.

    Rainbow poke bowl thru Mealpal

Another day, another MEALPAL adventure lunch as I finish up my first month back in the FiDi. Today I got the RAINBOW POKE BOWL through the Mealpal program. Portion was a good size. Flavor was just OK for me -- their salmon marinade is wayyy too salty. Imitation crab was tasty and not too creamy. Corn and cucumber were also just OK -- no flavor at all, would prefer some seaweed salad instead. I also bought an UNAGI ONIGIRI separately. I really liked the unagi rice ball! Was ~$3. Eel tasted fresh and brown rice wasn't hard at all. Would only wish there was a bit more fish filling. I liked how the flavor of the teriyaki sauce didn't overwhelm the fish. I also enjoyed some fatty fish pieces. I think I saw a review that said the rice balls "tasted fishy" -- I disagree! It's probably from the furikake they sprinkle over the rice balls which I think add a nice umami flavor. May come back for other rice balls. Would pass on the poke bowls and spend a few bucks more elsewhere for something like that.

The place is a little bit hidden, I probably will never know this place if its not because of the Ritual app (they usually have good offers in there). First impression: I've always loved to-go sushi place (not bento). In fact, I've been looking for to-go individual sushi spot that offers good food with reasonable price. I've found one in New York but had hard time finding one in SF, so now I've found one! The place is not so big, but not so small. It has minimalist and straight-to-the-point design. They have one or two small self service tables for those who wants to eat in, but mostly this place is for to-go purposes. For the food variety, they have plenty of variety for their size. From sushi, bento, and assorted sushi platters. I have not tried all the varieties but the two items I had was actually pretty good. One is pork katsu and the other one is one of their specialty sushi. Their pork katsu was a little bit too dry in my opinion, and the sauce was too sweet. The portion was rather small for their price, so don't expect to come here and be overly full. Their baby octopus also not the best because it was too dry.. Oh, but their servers are all nice and friendly. Afterall, they deserve a 4-star because I remember their sushi was nice (it's been few months ago, and I immediately ate it at that time before taking picture because I was too hungry). Even though their pork katsu is not the best, but their sushi is good with reasonable price.

The take-out concept is so much fun! Basically, you go in, grab a box (basket) and go shopping. Sushi are wrapped ndividual and neatly stocked in wicker baskets in a fridge. Pick and choose your favorite pieces, then go to the cashier to pay. Don't forget to sign up for the rewards! If you eat there, might as well sign up! My go to pieces: ! avocado roll ($1.20) ! salmon nigiri ($1.30) ! unagi nigiri ($1.30) ! tamago nigiri ($1.30) ! spam onigiri ($3.00) ! unagi onigiri ($3.29) ! california roll (can't remember) All freshly made daily. All very good for my tummy.

Takoyaki and a piece of salmon and tamago
    Rita W.

Great place to go if you like the flavor of takoyaki! They have a "hot foods" section by the register, and I was so excited to see that they had takoyaki. It was 6 pieces for $5 or something, which is considerately cheaper than takoyaki as an appetizer at a restaurant. The flavor was really good, and it was filling too. The only thing is that it is placed in a box all sealed and such (well, what do you expect, as it's the concept of this grab n go place), the takoyaki edges weren't crunchy. The flavor was still there though, and this is a great lunch option if I feel like taking a long walk during my lunch hour and grabbing something quick and easy on the way back. Their sushi here is interesting. They have individual "nigiri" pieces, from salmon, tuna, roe, tamago, eel, and so much more. They have these boxes where you can fill the box to what pieces you'd like. Each piece is individually wrapped, so there's quite a bit of plastic involved. The pieces look so cute in its wrapping, and the taste of the $1.30 pieces and such are as expected. Not "restaurant quality," but at a pricepoint and the grab n go style, it isn't bad. They also have maki pieces, such as avocado, and those come in 2 per plastic thingy. They also have standard grocery-like boxes with a variety of combinations too, but I thought it was really nice that you can make your own box. Aside from some hot food and sushi options, they have poke bowls. The bowls looked yummy and they were around $12 or so. They have Japanese drinks here too. Very clean, bright spot. I'd definitely keep coming back here for their $5 takoyaki. They also do 30% off in the late afternoon till 6PM.

California roll, salmon roll, tuna roll
    Angela L.

This place is just like a mini mart in Tokyo, Japan. It is super clean, very bright and organized. Some items I tried: California roll 5/5 I was very surprised bc this tastes amazing. This california roll is nothing like the regular plain and tiny california roll you usually get elsewhere. It is huge and has a lot of crab stuffing in it. It is also covered with fish roe. Salmon roll 4/5 It has salmon and avocado inside and white and black sesame outside. Tuna roll 3/5 If you are not a fun of green onion, don't get this one as it had green onion on top of the roll. And the roll is pretty tasteless so I had to dip the mayo sauce on the side. Rainbow poke bowl 4/5 I tried their rainbow poke bowl the other day. It comes with salmon poke, crab salad, corn, and cucumber. I liked the crab salad more than the salmon poke part of it.

Just moved my office to the Financial District and accidentally stumbled upon this sushi to-go spot near work. Love that they offer both sushi and bento options--gives some nice variety for lunch. Food quality gets an 8/10 from me; it's pretty impressive, especially for a quick service place. Prices aren't the cheapest around, but they're definitely acceptable considering the location. Overall, I'd recommend this place to anyone looking for quality Asian fast food in the area. Great find!

    Hmm. This tuna looks old.

The restaurant can be a little hidden, but it's pretty easy to find with the instructions they send before your reservation. It's located above Fermentation Lab. Just head up the stairs and you'll find it inside the old Ichi Pub space. The restaurant is small and intimate, with only 9 seats at the counter. When you arrive, walk through the Yuji curtain and check in directly with the chef since there is no host. My biggest concern with set menus is always whether I'll feel satisfied and full afterward, but that was definitely not an issue here. My husband and I were both very satisfied after the meal. Every dish was delicious, and you could really taste the quality of each ingredient. Highlights for me were the bluefin sashimi, which was so buttery and soft that it literally melted in your mouth. The skillfish was rich and decadent, and the citrus and ginger balanced the flavors. The fried fish was another favorite as it reminded me of the savory Japanese rice crackers I loved growing up. Since it's located in Japantown, parking can be challenging. We had to loop around several times looking for street parking and even had two cars take spots we were waiting for, so definitely give yourself extra time before your reservation. I would highly recommend this place! The chef changes the menu periodically based on what's in season, so it's a great excuse to come back and try something new in the future. I ordered the 24-item Mizuho Menu, as did all the other guests. There were 5 guests in total (the restaurant can seat up to 8 people). The starter was not very creative, but the nigiri were great. The sashimi selection was very nice, with some fish you do not see as often in omakase menus, such as isaki, iwana, and myabi tai, a kind of tai. Sawada was delicious and is always a good inclusion. We asked for some wasabi and received a small cup of kizami wasabi, a chopped wasabi with a slightly crunchy texture, which was a nice touch. For the nigiri, all the classics of a good omakase were present: otoro, kinmedai, shima aji, uni, hotate, and wagyu. Kamasu was also included, and it is one of my favorite fish. It is also worth noting that they age both their beef and their tuna, including the otoro that was served. A few pieces were torched, maybe a few too many. Overall, the service was not memorable, although chef Ron Au was friendly and nice. The place itself felt a bit questionable, and my expectations were not very high after the beginning of the meal. But the food was truly excellent, and for that reason I think it deserves 5 stars.
