I have always enjoyed Ono Hawaiian BBQ, and prefer this brand to many others who try to make me order macaroni salad or white bread. Ono has a plate that includes only salad and rice with your choice of protein. This time I splurged on a limited time fish offer, along with my favorite island fire chicken. The fish was pan-fried with a light coating, I would have preferred straight up grilled, live and learn. It had a lovely flavor and was very flaky and tender but thin. Warning the island fire chicken is spicy. Your nose will run like mine. But you will be unable to stop consuming it because it is so delicious! A little sweet a little salty a lot spicy. And orange did I say orange it's very orange. The rice is always fluffy and perfect. The side of salad has been changed. I preferred the old version which had edamame, carrot curls and iceberg with some cabbage. The new salad is a very ordinary spring mix salad instead. Although there is still a nice sesame dressing, I miss the old salad. The staff here is always super friendly, and it takes a while to get your food. Chicken Katsu was mostly batter and not getting the generous portions I'm used to from the Ono brand. -1 star for missing other veggies. The bed of veggies was just cabbage. No broccoli, no carrots, just cabbage. If this is a recent change then that's disappointing they are looking for more ways to increase profit margins by taking away value from the customer. HORRIBLE SERVICE AND OLD GOOD. I ordered my food over 20 minutes ago and I'm still waiting. One person at the counter and I can see at least 5 orders waiting to be picked up and he's not doing anything. I went up to the counter to ask and he said it's probably there. Horrible service. Edit: I called the store and spoke to the manager who told me to come back and they would remake my order so I went in today and the shift manager couldn't find the note the other manager wrote so they wouldn't remake my order. I asked for the GM's number and she said it was against policy to give it out. I asked for the corporate number and she said to look on the website. The shift manager was named Alyss Martinez and I'm sorry, but with those customer service skills she should have never been made a manager. She argued, insisted that the 30 minute wait I had was normal and was rude. I pointed out that an order just went out to a customer who was there when we got there and I saw the order on the counter for 10 minutes before it was called to pickup. I have dined at establishments ranging from roadside dives to fine dining, and in all my years I have never encountered a more breathtaking display of institutional incompetence wrapped in breathtaking arrogance than what my husband and I experienced at this location over the course of two visits. Visit one: My husband was told his order would be ready in ten minutes. Thirty minutes later, after watching his food sit abandoned on the counter like an orphaned child while he repeatedly inquired whether it was his -- being told no each time -- a staff member returning from her break finally handed it to him. The food had been sitting long enough to reach room temperature. He brought home a cold meal that bore no resemblance to the fresh Hawaiian BBQ we paid for. A reasonable person might chalk this up to an off night. My husband called to address this professionally. The manager who took his call was sympathetic, took down his name and order information, and promised a full remake on his next visit. Problem acknowledged. Resolution offered. Story over, right? Wrong. Visit two: We arrived to collect the promised remake only to discover that the manager from Thursday night had apparently experienced a catastrophic failure of both memory and basic professional responsibility -- our names, our order, our entire interaction had vanished into the void. It was never written down. The promise made to smooth over their failure was itself a lie. At this point a competent manager of character would have simply apologized, acknowledged the breakdown, and made it right. Instead the MOD on duty -- who was not present Thursday night and therefore had exactly zero firsthand knowledge of what occurred -- proceeded to argue with my husband about what her staff had or had not done. Let that sink in. She defended employees whose actions she did not witness, to a customer who was there and experienced them directly. When my husband explained that one employee stood idle while he waited -- not handling drive-through, not assisting other customers, simply standing there -- she offered the stunning rebuttal that perhaps he was doing something else. Perhaps. In the face of a direct eyewitness account. From the customer she was supposedly trying to retain. Her counteroffer to remedy a situation caused entirely by her location's failures? To remake one item. Not the full order promised by her colleague. One item. As a gesture of goodwill for two visits' worth of failure, a broken promise, and being argued with by someone who wasn't even there. When we requested the General Manager's contact information -- a completely reasonable ask given the circumstances -- she refused. When we asked for the corporate number -- again, completely reasonable -- she told us to check the website. She offered the informational resources of a shrug wrapped in a customer service uniform. We left. Not because we were unreasonable. Not because we expected perfection. We left because the message delivered by every interaction at this location was unmistakable: your time doesn't matter, your experience doesn't matter, the promises we make don't matter, and when we fail you repeatedly we will argue with you about it rather than simply say we're sorry. I have been in management. I know exactly what should have happened. Listen first. Acknowledge the experience. Apologize without conditions. Make it right beyond what was promised to rebuild the trust your team already destroyed. That is not a high bar. It is the absolute minimum. This location clears none of it. Save yourself the hour of your life you will not get back and find a restaurant that understands the radical concept that customers who are owed an apology should receive one. read more

Here's the skinny ,we went there at 4:15 on a Wednesday evening to order fast food for dinner We ordered two Katsu number two dinners came to about 30 bucks. Going over the order twice. They were busy ,it was approaching rush-hour so they asked us to wait in the overflow lot out in the parking lot which is shared by a bunch of others other businesses.We pull out and there's already two cars waiting. OK we become the third, shortly there after we joined by the fourth and fifth, then the sixth Car we ordered the food at 4:15 the food didn't come to our car till almost 5pm within the order which which made us just irate because they threw it together in such a hurry that they gave us no sauces one of my favorite things about the whole thing are the sauces I like the food I like the Katsu and we ordered six of the teriyaki sauces and four the of the other others NONE of which were in the bags! so we've now been there for pretty close to 50 minutes . The girls inside we're getting more backed up and had a rush,so she hands the two previous cars next to us their meals . She says don't you know totally sorry for the wait or whatever. OK finally we can go on our merry way. We fight our way home On Bell which took another 35 minutes to get home. We order placed with 6 teriyaki sauces and 4 of the catsu sauces, we went over the sauces twice ! Based on their food definitely worth having again ,Service I'd give it. if I could give it a zero stars I'd give it a zero again and the sauce are a big part of what makes makes them. The Mac salad was very good. I can't get behind the rice. It's so wet, not a fan of the flavor or the texture. I was expecting better rice, since it's a Hawaiian place. The pork was good, I loved that they put vegetables underneath the meat. I got my Island white fish & BBQ chicken combo. I thought it looked good. I take a bite of fish and it taste like oil. It's mushy inside and gross. OK then I move on the the chicken. It's grilled nicely and caramelized....and tender but.....it taste just like soy sauce.....and it hard to keep eating it because it just taste like soy sauce.....The rice was ok and the macaroni salad was a little dried out. The steamed (steamed???( vegetables were DISGUSTING they were full of oil. I consider them not edible. My husband tried the BBQ Combo (beef, short rib, chicken). All the meats tasted the same. They just taste like soy sauce. And he was served the same oily vegetables. Every THING could have been better. Error ringing in order. Oil soaked fish. beef and chicken taste flat and taste like soy sauce. OIL LOGGED VEGETABLES. Even the condiments don't taste good. My advice is that you should hire culinary students. We were so excited to have an ono closer especially since the nee hawaiian bros was a total bust. This was our second go here and while service was friendly the order was a complete miss! This first time the food ended up soggy. The second time we went through the drive through and got double charged for an item we only order one of, they forgot the sauce, the teriyaki chicken was rubbery (maybe frozen chicken not thawed all the way?), and the katsu was all crisp and no chicken, and they forgot the sauce!! Hope they can catch up to speed! In the mean time we'll be headed up to the L &L in Nortera or leo's in peoria area. read more

Not sure why this establishment only rates just above 3 stars? I went in on a whim, and found the food to be exceptional. The girl at the counter advised me that my Fire Chicken would take 10-12 minutes while they prepared it fresh. Not only did I appreciate her advising me of the time element (in case I wanted to order something else) but the fact they were making it fresh added to my delight. When I received my food, it was sizzling hot and delicious. They have a sauce bar you can dispense your own amount of either Katsu or Teriyaki sauces which is a plus! I have been an Ono Hawaiian BBQ customer for years and even have brought friends and family here. I am sad to say that I am no longer and will no longer be supporting ANY/ALL Ono BBQs franchises. Here is my story, The night of 10/21 around 9 pm I had forgotten my purse on one of the chairs in the lobby. By the time I got home Ono was closed and I reliased I forgot my purse. The following morning my mother went in to see if anybody returned my purse. I am a student right now and was only able to go to this location around noon. On the way there from my class I filed a report for stolen bag because my mother told me that one of the Ono employees had given my bag to someone. After my mother was told this she spoke to the manager who was not aware of any purse being returned but he did mention that one of his employees was acting strange the night before. After I arrived to the store I was told many different stories by many employees. The cop arrived and told me there was footage of a couple of employees (including the one who was acting strange) taking my purse out of the safe and taking it to a corner to go through my purse. Then these employees did not return my purse to the safe. Moreover, this is why I will no longer EVER support ANY Ono BBQ franchises. read more

It was some of the best Hawaiian BBQ I've ever had, service was quick, they got my two dinners out in 3-4 minutes, it was $11.50 each and in case you didn't know a meal at McDonalds is more than that so I don't understand the expensive comments and the portion was so big that I had to save the rest for later. They could have given more Mac salad, it was very good but not a lot. I liked the cabbage and broccoli they give you and the teriyaki sauce was tasty. I've never experienced such poor customer service at a restaurant in my life! All I tried to do was order my lunch exactly the same as I do at other Ono locations. Not only did the cashier laugh at me and tell me "no, won't do that" but he had the "Manager" come out of the kitchen to tell me no also. How hard is it to order a grilled chicken breast with Island Fire sauce to satisfy your customer. And the way in which they went about making a joke out of it and telling me no, not offering any other solutions was flat out unprofessional. The chicken and beef is always stringy with a lot of fat, half of the plate is tossed because you can't even eat it. Ive lived here three years and I have to say today I experienced the absolute BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE at the drive through Bell Road location of Ono Hawaiian BBQ, pleasant, friendly repeated order smiled at the window and I give HIGH marks to the franchise on the packaging. Heavy gauge clamshell containers seal tight keep in the heat, Heavy gauge plastic cutlery, Multi Ply Paper Napkins which is so rare today, thick plastic bag, large side sauce Solo containers just PERFECT! I can't speak to the inside ambiance but from the cleanliness of the long drive through, the counter help uniforms and what I could see through the take out window it was SPOTLESS. The quality of the food I had for the price charges was a good fair value and VERY TASTY. I seldom get drive thru any longer due to the increase in prices and the quality of food and service BUT this particular location on this particular day was FLAWLESS.
