I had high hopes for this place as I am on vacation and needed to find a place in a pinch to take me in. I usually love doing crazy designs and opted to choose a simpler one since I had no idea if this salon would be able to. I showed the woman multiple inspiration pictures to give them options and she chose the one attached. I thought this meant she was confident she would be able to do the design. I noticed when she was filing down my previous design, she left bits of the previous color on the sides. After the service was done I compared the inspo pic and my nails and they look nothing alike. I'd rather just have honesty that they are unable to do designs rather than paying $85 for a crappy version. All my nails were crooked and uneven and I had to file them myself. I had a ton of hangnails. The nail tech told me she was new but moved from salon to salon and had been doing nails for a "very long time", I'm not so sure about that. This is owned by the family of the former Tiffany Nails. We started going here when Tiffany closed up across the street. The place is a bit fancier and definitely requires reservations - they are hard to get in doing a walk-in!! The pedicures were lovely and relaxing - a little on the expensive side though. Their waxing services are also reliable and on par with pricing in the area. I always had good results going here and will continue to frequent this business when I am in the area. I went in today get my pedicure redone from another nail salon that messed it up and they did OK however, I asked for bright white polish and once he was done and I could clearly see it in the sunlight, the white nail polish did not look bright white at all, it looked pale white so I'm not really sure what was wrong with the polish Or whether he did not layer the polish correctly on my toes but as far as my nails, the lady (who had the lashes on because I don't know her name, nor how else to identify her) took almost two hours on my nails and I kept having to make corrections for her so that she would fix them. Even after she made mistakes with my nails, she didn't even have the common decency to come out of the back of the salon to fix them , Another nail artist( Who had all the tattoos from head to toe, who also was a very sweet lady and understanding lady ) had to fix my nails. I usually have a great experience here and have received excellent service every time I visit. Unfortunately, last week's was disappointing. My technician was quite rough, making the experience painful, and my nails weren't filed evenly. I was actually cut on my toe & finger. I ended up having to redo my nails at home, and the way they were filed has led to multiple broken nails, something I never have a problem with. went to onyx nails and brought a friend with high expectations as i've gotten my nails done here a few times before with very good results. we had called a few days prior to request someone that was willing to do detailed designs and they agreed. day of our appointment we showed our inspo pics and came out very disappointed with the results especially with how much we paid for them. if you are not able to do the designs, please just say so. i would rather leave the salon with bare nails than nails that i don't like that i still would HAVE to pay for. it would of saved everyone a LOT of time and money. read more

I didn't want to be mean but it's just not what I asked for..I totally get that what I had asked for was hard but please let me know if you aren't able to do it! Just didn't have the heart to tell her I don't like it because it did take a while. I left feeling so disappointed because the "airbrush" nails are just muddy. She was super nice but I don't think I'll be going back based on the quality of the nail art. I paid 104 after taxes without tip. Definitely other better artists out there. I'm loyal to the soil, & can't go or see anyone else! I would see/entrust Jo & Marc to do my eyebrows, and Suzy, Natasha & Jordan to do my nails. But Jordan is my main squeeze; I'm ALWAYS requesting him, and if he's unavailable, I know I'm in good hands with Suzy & Tasha! Let's start off with Jordan. That man knows exactly how much time he'll need with me, which is usually two hours or so, lol. I'll usually come in with an inspo, or trust him completely to give me the "Jordan Experience"! Lol. Even with the inspo I come in with, I always ask him to "Jordify" it, so we can make it our own! It never fails... everywhere I go, everything I do, EVERYONE I see, from ladies, to grandmas, even DUDES compliment my nails!!! And of course I hit them with "Onyx in Kapōlei, go look them up & ask for Jordan!" LOL!!! Everything from his art, execution, to shaping is Chef's Kiss! As for Suzy & Tasha, those two women are pure MAGIC!!! Their artwork & attention to detail is absolutely insane!!! I really wanted to give this place 5 stars but my friends and I had made an appointment a couple of days before, and upon arriving, I was seen first before them.. 15 mins later they were finally seated next to me even though all 3 of our appts were at the same time. Another 10-15mins pass by and then the nail technicians start.. Both nail technicians were late and one asked if they made an appt bc they get really busy during this time. Um, Awkward.........If I were in their place, my review probably would have swayed differently. On the other hand, Mark did a great job! I'd say it was one of the best pedicures I have had. Of course I wished the massage lasted longer, but hey, great job overall. He did not rush which is a huge plus for me. I really really love this nail spot and think I might have found my favorite nail technician! It's Far from central Oahu, but worth the drive. 1. They conversate in English. 2. They have pretty oyster shell like pedicure bowls! 3. Decent nail service prices! (But $20 extra for gel polish!? That's $2per toenail and mines aren't even long...I passed.) 4. Lashes and waxing services also offered here. I have yet to come back for my nails, and by the looks of other yelpers pictures, I'm bound to come back much sooner just because. It's only a matter of time right? I had a high hope for this nail salon....well got disappointed once again. The first impression was definitely promising....Very luxurious and clean looks, and every employees are native English speakers. Priced is about the same as other places in Kapolei. I wanted to have flowers on my big toes and when I mentioned that, the manager (or owner....I could be wrong) switched my lady....thinking in my head "good, she is good at designs. The process was nice until half way thru. Massage....very weak. Hardly felt anything at all. And when she started paiting flowers on my toes, I knew immediately she sucks at it. I asked for plumeria, came out looking like starfish. She took really really long time for such a terrible work, almost like a child work. My sister who also got pedicures said she could have done much better job and I agree. I went home and immediately took the paint off my big toes and put a different color. Neither my sister nor my roommate liked the service they received. My sister said the same thing about massage being very weak. Also she said her technician (the owner or manager) went super fast on coloring that the color came out uneven. My roommate said his technician also went super fast as well. Meanwhile my technician took a ridiculous amount of time for such terrible art. My total came out $45 and plus tips. I definitely did not feel like tipping but I also felt bad if I didn't so I did. My sister and roommate did not tip as they did not like the service they received and walked out. When I walked over to my technician to tip, after they left the store, I heard the owner (or manager) said "What? No tip!?" I am not sure if she knew I was still present in store or what, but that was very unprofessional....they had other customers as well. You tip when you liked the service you got. If she noticed that she didn't get tip, maybe look back and think what she could have done better. My sister said she didn't even say okay, or thank you or anything when she was done with my sister and just up and left. I will never ever return here... read more

I previously wrote a 5 star review for this place but recently deleted it after a terrible experience and will not be returning. I scheduled an appointment online, received an email confirmation, and received a call from the salon to confirm again. On the day of my appointment, I received another confirmation email. At this point, I'm completely reassured I have an appointment. A couple hours before my appointment (in the middle of a work day) I missed a call from a random number not associated with the salon at all. Kayla left a message simply saying "please call back the salon number." Since I was at work, I was able to call back 30 minutes later. I called 3 times and no one picked up - I called both the salon number and the random number the call came from. I showed up to my appointment only to find the doors locked and lights off (except for the back room) but the open sign still on? I called multiple times to try and get a hold of someone but no one answered. I waited 30 minutes outside the salon - I had absolutely no idea what was going on. The next day I get a call and come to find out they had a power issue and had to close. I totally get it, things happen and you can't plan for it. BUT there are professional ways to handle the situation. There were so many things they could've done to prevent this. 1) When Kayla left me a message she should've just said "your appointment is cancelled" - then I at least would've known! 2) Answer the damn phone if you say to call back! Or at least provide a number that is reachable. 3) At the very least, put a note on the salon door so I don't stand out there confused! I don't understand how I was the ONLY ONE with this issue - it's not like there were a bunch of other people showing up for their appointment, no one else was there. I don't care if you have 2 appointments or 30 appointments to cancel, you need to communicate to every single person. This issue easily could've been avoided with simple communication. read more

I tried Onyx Nails last week as I am in the process of finding a new salon for my manicures & pedicures. The salon is clean, bright, stylish and the staff are very efficient and friendly. My only complaint is the longevity of the manicure. It is exactly seven days since I had the gel manicure and every single one of my nails is chipped, peeling, or cracking. I'm not sure if it is a fluke, but I am hesitant to revisit based on the quality of the manicure compared to the cost. The guy who did my eyebrows really walked me through the process and told me tips about how I can prep beforehand, and informed me a lot of things I never I got told whenever I did my eyebrows. Treated my aunty this past Sunday to get her nails (mani & pedi) done before our vacay. I also came with my cousins gf who also received a mani & pedi. Our appt was at 10am they took 3 of us at once to begin. Salon itself is well kept clean and hygienic. My cousin who is a worker here made it feel more friendly and relaxed. Went over what type of Pedi and color for each of us. My aunty was very indecisive with color but they didn't rush her. I've received a milk tea and honey pedi which is their highest $67 with gel soft white polish. Even got my nails trimmed, shine & buff. The nail technicians here all are friendly and talk English so it doesn't make you feel uncomfortable in anyway. They have holiday videos playing on the TV's so it gives you some time away from your phone. Prices seem fair, I'm not into getting my nails done but this visit made me want to come back for pedi ever 3-4 months or so. (Yay) pedi left my skin smoooooth and nails are looking clean! read more

I was fortunate to find Onyx Nails after a disastrous gel manicure at another salon. Shayla was the first nail technician I was with, but she soon discovered the damage done to my nails needed extra attention so Natasha took over. Natasha explained what had to be done to repair my natural nails and made them look perfect. She did a wonderful pedicure too! Natasha is an exceptional nail technician. The receptionist, Shayla and Natasha were all very friendly. The salon itself is extremely clean and very organized with a great atmosphere. Lots of parking right in front of salon. I came in from out of town after being unable to get in with my normal wax guru to get my armpits done and if you know me you know I can't be in Hawaii with hairy armpits! I called onyx and was able to get in quickly and the location was not far from where I'm staying. I had an appointment with Marc and he did such a great job after the waxing it was over he shared a product that he uses with me for exfoliation and I plan on running to Sephora to get it! Came here to use a gift card I received and wanted to get my nails done for my maternity shoot. Showed the tech how I wanted my nails done. As she was filing, it looked more almond shape as opposed to oval shape. I kept repeating, reassuring to make it look like the picture shown. No answer. I finally gave up and went with the almond shape. I like the fact that she asked me to check the filing of my nail incase they were crooked. A few needed minor adjustments, not a problem. Overall, my nails looked nice minus the shape I requested. Lastly, just be aware they only take cash, Apple Pay, and Venmo for tips. I don't have any of those so husband paid for me. read more

I tried to get a full set of nails too but they didn't have time. However, they presented me with an alternative. Not a full set but to get a mani with gel polish since my nails were all a perfect length already. My technician was Marc. He did all of my services. Very professional and gentle. It was the best pedicure I ever had. Usually there are moments when it can be ticklish and uncomfortable, especially when scrubbing the bottom of the feet or cleaning the nails. It was all very relaxing. The facility is bright and airy. Clean and doesn't have that overpowering smell of chemicals. This is my new favorite place! read more

I reached out to Onyx via Yelp, & was responded to in a timely manner. I set my appointment via their online booking site for myself and my daughter. Onyx is hands down my new GO TO. When I first walked in, I was greeted by Daisy. Absolute sweetheart. She checked us in & we proceeded to wash our hands before our services. The atmosphere is just my forte. Modern, simple, & CLEAN! Jordan took care of my full set acrylics. He is an absolute MASTER. I'm extremely satisfied with my nails. Marc got the tough job, my pedi. , i haven't had a pedicure in 5 years or so..I warned Marc that she was nasty, but he was so nice & professional about my busted & crusted calloused feet. Natascha - YOU MY GIRL BOO! Not only did she absolutely kill the nail art I asked of her for my accent nails, but she slayed my daughters set and pedi as well. I paid $230 for ombré full sets on myself and my daughter including custom nail art and some cute little accent jewels, plus pedicures for the both of us.
