Oohh & Aahh's should change their name to Old God Damn! We made an online order but when we got there and saw the food, we placed two more orders just to be greedy and try out the other food. This location is take out only, I wish I knew they had a restaurant because me and my mom sat in the parking lot scoffing down food like nobody's business. The waffle was sooooo good. We had beef ribs that fell off the bone, catfish so big you can't tell that's what it was and fried chicken! All the flavors are southern and well blended. Even the green beans were good! Usually made fresh because this place is busy, and the spice rub on the catfish *chef kiss* The sides are all bangers. The Mac and cheese not too cheesy, no breadcums. A small southern spot we found while visiting dc. take out only. The cashier was snobbish. I ordered ribs combo with Mac and cheese and green collard. My brother ordered whiting (cause we have no idea what it was... it's a white fish btw). The ribs was tender and seriously just fall right off the bones for the sides the collard greens was so flavorful and delish while the mac n cheese it's flavorful but it was dry. The whiting was good fried crisp and pack with flavor, tasted even better with the Buffalo sauce. Overall, it was amazing. I personally will never in my life eat at this establishment again. I ordered over $100 worth of food last night around 2am and was waiting for my Uber to pull up. The security with dreads let me know that I could stay inside until my Uber pulled up however when the manager that's light skin with colored eyes said I had to get out, the security that is dark skin with dreads threatened to shoot my Uber black truck up and yelled out harmful slurs. Their Mac & Cheese is as close to a 5 as you can get which is saying a lot. I got the turkey wings and meatloaf dinners and they got zero complaints. Sides are solid and customer service is good. My order was ready in 15-20 mins so that was perfect. I also grabbed a slice of carrot cake from the bakery case...it was pricey and probably a 4/5 on it's own. When you think of a hole in a wall, this is it! A small, no a tiny, wonderful, season-filled, soul food smelling, itty, bitty hole in the wall. The waiting experience needs vast improvement, I feel no need to sugar coat it. Depending on the length of the line, you may start your wait in the line outside (bring an umbrella if it's raining) and slowly creep your way into the restaurant. The line moves at a snail's pace. You will finally make it to the front, place your order and wait for the angels to make your food. There is really nothing positive to say about the waiting and ordering process, management should really look into improving this process... With all that being said, the food is so damn good. Whose grandma is in the back cooking with angels? Despite the abysmal ordering process, I would do it all again in a heart beat as the food is that damn good. Makes you wanna slap your momma (PLEASE don't, because that's just plain rude and disrespectful, lol)! I really like this place and the food. It is the perfect place to come to after a night out. During my latest visit (a Saturday afternoon) I ordered the shrimp, with a side of Mac and cheese, and collard greens. Everyone who I was with, got their food in a decent timeframe, but I was left waiting for almost 45 minutes! The "manager" (who I later found out wasn't even the manager and was simply an employee taking his break) continuously came out and apologized, and let me know my food was coming. He did this a few times until he went in himself to get my food. He compensated me by giving me some extra cornbread and a drink, which I didn't think was enough considering the extremely long wait time. Because I enjoy the food, I will be back, but the service needs to be more consistent. read more

I visited this location two days ago. 3/6/21. I'm a local and I've been coming to this location over the years. I've also been a macaroni & cheese fanatic so, I literally travel across town for the Mac and I finally tried their turkey wings with gravy and onions. The gravy and onions was definitely flavorful, maybe slightly salty, but that could've been from the broth they used. The turkey wings were tender but fulfilling. On the other hand.. the dessert was bland, the buttercream frosting was sweet and filled with a rush of flavor, but that bread lacked moistness you would expect.. (they're usually refrigerated so it's probably that as well.) The macaroni and cheese in my platter had beautiful presentation and on a 1-10 scale for cheese, seasonings, and flavor.. it was a 7. Nothing as special this time.. but It did it's job! I would come back, for sure. I'm glad I tried the turkey wings out and I just may have to run that order back soon. We were very excited our friend ordered fried chicken with yams and Mac and cheese. Me and my boyfriend shared a plate it was 10 piece wings with mashed potatoes and Mac and cheese. The fried chicken definitely was bursting with a lot of flavor but not as crunchy as we thought it would be. The mash potatoes where nice and soft they would just melt in your mouth we added gravy to them. The Mac and cheese was to die for so cheesy they had such a distinct flavor kind of felt like some sort of secrete ingredient because I could not pinpoint what it was and I haven't tried any Mac and cheese with such a bold flavor like that! Turkey wing platter with a side of Mac &cheese and rice w/ gravy - the wings appeared to be marinated overnight or something bc it was well seasoned! The meat literally fell off the bone. I requested gravy with onions and peppers which was generously given. The sides went amazing with the wings. The portion was satisfactory well worth the amount paid. Def eat again! 2. Fried chicken wings with Mac and cabbage - the wings crisp and you can tell it was freshly fried. The batter used wasn't like any regular you can tell it was different with a bit of a kick to it. The Mac and cheese was awesome and complimented the cabbage along with the wings well. I don't think I would order this again simply bc I know the menu has much better meals to offer. This is the first time that Yelp reviews have steered me wrong. I've heard so many good things about this restaurant - after having drinks down the street from this place Saturday night, I decided to stop in since it was so close and black owned. I thought with the amount of people waiting for their food and the reviews, I'd be in for a treat. What a huge disappointment. We ordered the fried whiting dinner with greens and mac and the teriyaki salmon with mac and yams. My sweet tooth forced me to get the lemon cake too. The wait for the food wasn't too long considering the amount of people who had ordered ahead of us. I was ready to pounce on my food as soon as I got home but I knew once I opened my container and saw that the mac was more white than yellow that I'd be disappointed. I wasn't wrong with my assessment- the mac had ZERO seasoning- just over cooked noodles and whatever white cheese they used to prepare it. The salmon was extremely dry- I couldn't take more than two bites of it and I've had better greens from a can of Glory greens (unseasoned as well). The yams and fried whiting were decent though (seasoned well). I'm still hurt that most of the $51 spent on the food went into the trash. The saving grace of it all- that earned the 2 stars was definitely the lemon cake. Extremely moist and not too sweet- I thoroughly enjoyed that lemon cake but it wasn't enough to make me give this place another chance. Either way, glad I was able to cross this place off my list of places to try. read more

You can truly describe this restaurant as a hole in the wall. It's hot and you barely have enough room to walk in the door. You have to stand sideways when someone is walking in the opposite direction and they still brush up against you. The music is so loud that it is hard to hear yourself order food. You have to wait for your food outside on the street while smelling weed from the nearby smoke shops and passerbys. As you wait, you get a fashion show and a contact high all at the same time. As for the food, I ordered baked turkey wings, cabbage, mashed potatoes, & cornbread. The wings were seasoned nicely. The cabbage & potatoes were fine. The cornbread was too sweet for my liking but it was good. Kinda tasted like cake. My husband ordered the chicken breasts blackened. He said the meat was slightly over cooked but had a good flavor with no additional sauce. They are made to order and we waited for a long time for our food because of it. Mac n Cheese, Shrimp, Greens, and Yams were my favorites. Cons: The wait is usually long but this can be said for any restaurant in the DMV. Parking is next to none but it's DC! My family orders food from this restaurant for our family reunions and we are generally pleased. This year, our service was disappointing since our online order for multiple dishes somehow was not sent to the restaurant! I showed up on the Sunday before Labor Day and the staff had to scramble to get the order together. Apparently, they use a third party (Toast) for the online ordering that is screwing things up so do not order online without following up by phone! What was also troubling was the lack of urgency displayed by the manager while my order was completed. If a 3rd party is screwing up your business, then fire them and act like you're upset! He just said that it has been a problem and said that he would contact them, but he didn't seem that upset. The order was completed and mac & cheese was substituted for the potato salad that would have taken too long. We enjoyed the food, but I was upset that some items were placed in boxes and not all provided in leak-proof aluminum trays. I had to clean cabbage juice off of my car seat for days and I placed the food boxes into a moving box that I brought! It leaked through that!! Ugh! We will probably use them again, but I will call them every day to make sure things are done properly. Their service must improve. read more
