My office used them for a catered lunch on 2/22/24. The food arrived on time neatly packaged in boxes. However, the food was horrible! The catfish was salty and fried dark as if it was fried in old grease. The mac n cheese was too loose and too cheesy. The potato salad was too light and lacked mustard. The cornbread was too light and only brown on the edges. The green beans were bland. To add further insult to this occasion was the strand of hair on my piece of fried fish. This was my third visit to Oohh's and Aahh's. I ordered a 2 meat combo which included salmon and turkey wings. For sides, I tried the collard greens and candied yams. Didn't know the restaurant stayed open until 4 am on Saturdays. That was definitely a plus. Thought it was only a carry out spot, but to my surprise, we were invited to be seated upstairs in the dining area. Service could've been better, however, the waiter seemed swamped and overwhelmed. The service from the cashier was remarkable. The food was FIRE !!!! But I really hate the set up. We had to wait outside for our food. No one ever called our number when the food was ready. My date had to check in when he saw the lady in line before us leaving. Although he is from MD, he had never been here before. My family orders food from this restaurant for our family reunions and we are generally pleased. This year, our service was disappointing since our online order for multiple dishes somehow was not sent to the restaurant! I showed up on the Sunday before Labor Day and the staff had to scramble to get the order together. Apparently, they use a third party (Toast) for the online ordering that is screwing things up so do not order online without following up by phone! What was also troubling was the lack of urgency displayed by the manager while my order was completed. If a 3rd party is screwing up your business, then fire them and act like you're upset! He just said that it has been a problem and said that he would contact them, but he didn't seem that upset. The order was completed and mac & cheese was substituted for the potato salad that would have taken too long. We enjoyed the food, but I was upset that some items were placed in boxes and not all provided in leak-proof aluminum trays. I had to clean cabbage juice off of my car seat for days and I placed the food boxes into a moving box that I brought! It leaked through that!! Ugh! We will probably use them again, but I will call them every day to make sure things are done properly. Their service must improve. read more

The waitress was rude, never brought us any water, and it took almost an hour to bring us our beverages we requested twice. We had to ask another table to help us and the other "guests" went downstairs to even help and get us some silver ware, and to get someone to get us some water. When "Another" waitress finally came up to bring water, all she brought was a pitcher, and no cups to drink it out of. Then she went downstairs and never came back with any cups. When we finally got our food, we asked another waiter to help us, and he was also rude. When we got our food, my chicken and waffles were so hard I couldn't even bite into it. So, I really never ate anything but a small appetizer. I'm all for supporting "our own" businesses, but good service and good food is what's important, and they lacked both. I've been to DC plenty of times and was told on several different occasions that I need to try Oohh's and Aahh's, well for Broccoli Fest 2019 I finally had the time to. Pros: Food is BOMB! Seasoned perfectly, the batter they use to fry everything is top notch. The food was so good we can back the next day and I got the same thing just different sides. I recommend the rice and gravy, collard greens, yams and mac & cheese. The catfish and Fried wings are my favorite! Cons: EXPECT TO WAIT at least 30 mins. The customer service and systems in place are definitely lacking. For one, the place is small so people order inside and then STAY inside to wait for their platters, instead of waiting outside. This just leads to a long ass line out the door. The upstairs is small and cozy. Reminds me of a room at my grandma's house. Customer service is slow, the girls there can't multitask so order everything at once and might as well ask for your bill too. Nonetheless great food, just needs improving for business efficiency. This place is so good, but be warned it's hood! We opted for a Airbnb experience this trip and did a soul food tour with Johnny, this is one of the 4 places he took us to. Potato Salad-5/5 on the sweeter side which I prefer Mac and Cheese-5/5-it was soo good! A little different than what I'm used to I think they may have added mozzarella cheese possibly but I fell in love with this dish from the first bite. Fried Shrimp-5.5-crispy flavorful, perfectly seasoned. Fried Fish-2.5/5- The whiting could've been fried harder and would be nice to enjoy with the small bones. There's really nowhere to eat besides the 3 tables upstairs, might be best to order takeout if your aren't familiar with the area. Their portions are massive, and you will not leave hungry. Their staff is always friendly and fun! 6 piece wings (4/5): Their wings are perfectly cooked. They have a crispy, juicy skin, and the meat is very tender. They have two minor faults, though. They are not very big, and the sauce is not evenly distributed across the wings. Some pieces will come drenched in sauce, while others will be sparsely covered. These are minor deficiencies because their wings are still incredibly delicious. Beef Short Ribs (4/5): Their beef short ribs are massive. You will get plenty of food with this entree, I promise. Each piece was tender and well-seasoned. Pieces will fall off the bone and melt in your mouth. This is always my default entree here if I need a lot of food and flavor! Collard Greens (5/5): Their collard greens are my favorite side. They are a juicy, flavorful, southern classic. Some places make their collard greens with too much oil or butter, but eating these greens doesn't leave a layer of film in your mouth or make you feel gorged. Macaroni & Cheese (3/5): Their Macaroni and Cheese is average. It isn't bad, but its nothing exceptional like their wings or beef short rib. I wish they used a little more cheese! I also feel like we had to wait quite awhile after ordering to get our food. -Baked dark meat: tasted great with the barbecue sauce. Falls off the bone. -Mac n cheese: definitely very cheesy, but it didn't have any flavor really-- and it was not really salty enough. -String beans: standard. No seasoning no salt, but cooked until slightly soft. Nothing special. -Yams: very mushy very sweet. I like when mine have chunks or is a little but thicker. This was just blended like Apple sauce consistency and tons of brown sugar. I wasn't a fan. -Half tea half lemonade: was way too sweet. I wasn't a huge fan of it. - Yellow cake with chocolate frosting. The cake had a shortcake consistency, frosting was good..but it wasn't anything out of the ordinary. I do want to come back to see what the hummingbird cake is about. Overall, decent lunch prices (I heard there's a price surge at night), huge portions, ok service. I really was excited about visiting this black business in hopes of finding some good soul food. I'm always glad to see black thriving business and restaurants. It was packed so there is definitely a demand for the food provided. They have customer loyalty because customers were definitely willing to stand in line for long periods of time without creating much fuss while being shuffled to the left and the right as an attempt to create space for more customers. There needs to be a better system of ordering and picking up your order other than what's happening. If it's going to be dependent on your receipt and your name being called make sure the cashier gives out said receipt to every customer. For some reason a receipt was not given and then that caused a world of confusion by the time the customer reached the front. Despite him going back to the cashier area and getting the ok the front of the house wasn't haven't it. All this back and forth making the customer the tennis ball in this match disorganized match of hunger games. Tensions were high, the heat was high finally I reached the front of the line. My order should be next! Sike! I'm still 3 people away from my order coming up. Wait, how are people in behind me getting their order ahead of me.... I am hungry. The heat seems to be getting to the guy at the front of the house, for some reason he doesn't know that you catch more flies with honey, this is literally the argument happening at the front of the house. He was rude to one of the staff members, he was rude to quite a few people about their tickets and orders, hell he was rude to me too... honestly he seemed overwhelmed. I don't even think this guy with the low ponytail has any idea that he lacks customer service or team building skills... someone help, teach him, just not while we are line. I was tempted to help him...but I hadn't got my food and didn't feel like engaging in a power struggle... I was already really starving for being in line for an eternity.... I was finally about to be out the door and yet another dispute erupted over condiments, apparently the guy with the ponytail ( who may have been Latino) didn't think we needed to be asked if we wanted gravy and barbecue sauce.... I'm not really sure if the tension between the black and Latino guy was truly about my sauce. But yes I doooooo want my sauce and gravy damn it! Got outside, double checked and was missing my barbecue sauce.... back into the battlefield I go. And again the show continued... all I wanted was my sauce! Y'all know this was my first experience here? And I'm from outta town. All that and my macaroni was cheesy almost choke you cheesy but no flavor, I had the fried catfish and a good portion nicely fried but unbeatable because it was too salty.... salty enough to make you squint in disappointment, salty enough to make your blood pressure go up. That fried fish could give you high blood pressure. My chicken was fried too hard. All that to say I want y'all to do better and hope my words can be used to better this space. My green beans were yummy and so was my barbecue sauce! I strongly think you should start asking customers about their experience and if there is any way you could improve their service and if they have any suggestions on how to make the flow smoother.
