Would give 2 but the Bloody Mary was pretty good !! Ordered the gyro. The gyro sauce, I discovered after I spread it all over my sandwich, had HORSE RADISH in it ?!?!?! My BF ordered some fish off the menu I can't remember which one but it was WAY too salty :(. We told the waiter and the manager came over and offered us a $25 gift certificate and took the fish off the menu. I think he offered me another gyro but by this time I was tired and the horse radish left a bad taste in my mouth. I think he should've comped the gyro too. We will try again this weekend w the gift certificate and I will report back. The horse radish gyro sauce was a mix up in the recipe and they threw the others out (I hope !). read more

The food good, ambiance, pretty good. Quiet and pretty classy. Although I had been here a few times before this experience was less than stellar..story to follow..... We had a group of family to Open Flame to celebrate a family occasion. There was a group of 24 of us and we had pre-reserved a room for the lunch. We were told that the tables would be split apart, but it was one LONG table that went through the room. Ok, I can deal. Service was ok. Things were done quickly but often our drinks were left empty. The food was amazing. We offered our guests 3 options. 1/2 rack of ribs, cod oscar and steak with shrimp. The cod was to DIE for good. The crab and scallops on top was plentiful and the fish was very well cooked and seasoned. The steak and shrimp was raved about by our guests which I appreciated and the ribs were good, but not off the chart awesome. Dinner went smoothly but then disaster struck. They had pre-cut the cake. I was heart broken. We were unable to get any pictures with our daughter with her cake (it was her baptism) and to make matters worse, I hadn't even seen the cake as my in-laws brought it. No one had asked about cutting it or if we were even ready for it. To top it off the waitress was less than helpful when I asked why. I was told that it was their procedure to just keep the meal moving and they always cut the cake. Wow. I was floored. I have never had an event like this where they did not ask before doing something like that. The manager apologized and waived the cake cutting fee but that did not soften the blow. If you do have an event there, be sure to give concise instructions so that things go as planned. Needless to say although the food was great I will not be back to Open Flame again. read more

I was looking for someplace new for breakfast. I've had good dinner experiences at Open Flame; I checked Yelp and saw they serve breakfast. A look at the online menu and I was able to narrow down my possible choices. Service was quick and courteous, especially considering our waiter was training a new person. The food arrived reasonably quickly, exactly as ordered, and tasted about as expected. The coffee was weak. I'll be back for breakfast now that I know they're serving it. read more

Stopped here on the way south for breakfast (my favorite meal to eat out). We were headed to Franklin and didn't see much in Franklin for breakfast/diners so we stopped on the way. I left fairly well impressed. I had corned beef hash, with eggs/hashbrowns and the pancakes instead of toast (wife had toast and we split). Wife had the Tuscan omelet. Corned beef hash was homemade as promised. Quite good. More corned beef then potatoes the way they should be. I ordered hash browns extra crispy and they came back cooked exactly extra crispy. Eggs also cooked just the way I ordered the. Pancakes were also very good. I tried the wife's Tuscan omelet. Lots of flavor. The red potatoes were tasty but not done enough. Homemade toast would have been great, but it was not to be found. Toast was decent but served cold. Hashbrowns were frozen potatoes instead of fresh, (but I admit, still damn good.) Service was outstanding. Never wanted for hot coffee including getting coffee refilled by someone not our own waitress. I'd actually rank this place 4.5 stars but Yelp doesn't let you give 1/2 star. Good stuff, I'll stop again when I'm in the area. read more

I have been here for breakfast or lunch on several occasions. It is very hit or miss. One thing that is a hit is the decor and ambience. It's cozy and smells of wood burning roasters. Other hits. Strawberry crepes that use fresh strawberries rather than sticky sweet pie filling. Macadamia crusted chicken cutlets with lemon sauce, ruebens, omelettes. Misses, crab cake eggs Benedict-the crab cake part of this is disgusting. Gyros are over charred and skimp on portions, corned beef hash is a greasy glop. Things seem to have been going downhill for a while, but ''tis past Sunday I decided I would try again. I was seated was seated and I felt it took a little to long for a server to stop at my table. I got coffee, I got a Virgin Mary, put my order in. As I was waiting I needed to use the restroom. I left my jacket behind, but of course too my purse. I returned to my table to find it cleared and my jacket gone. I was told by the bus girl that the hostess has my jacket. I informed that I had a) been in the restroom b) had not been served my breakfast. C) bring my items back along with your manager. Honestly, I should have just left at this point. The manager says they were very apologetic and said bus girl feels very bad. Then my breakfast came. It was a gloppy mess. (Corned beef hash skillet) still tasted just ok. As I got my check I was rather disappointed that they did not offer to even cover my cup of coffee. Pretty crappy service recovery in my books. It will take a lot for me to return to this establishment for a while. read more

Came in on our way back to Chicago for what we hoped was going to be a quick lunch. Was seated on the patio towards the back with no other parties seated around us (likely due to a few un-bused tables). No one acknowledged us for a good 8-10mins until (who I presume to be a manager) came out and asked if we'd been helped yet....no, we hadn't. A server (Cody) then came over and took our drink orders and started to walk away. Never asked if we were ready for food (we in fact were because we sat there for so long) and I had to call him back so we could place our order (remember we were hoping for a quick stop). We placed an appetizer and both got pizzas. I'd say no less the 20 minutes later our pizza comes out with no appetizer in sight. He gives us our pizzas and I ask him where out appetizer was. "Oh they didn't bring this out to you?" No, Cody, they didn't because I've had a lot of time to observe and no one but the servers are bringing food out to tables. I tell him to just cancel it. He comes out a bit later and says he's got it in for us (almost indicating he completely forgot about it) and will have it boxed up for us to go and it's on him- very kind gesture. Pizza was really good and that's whats saving this from being a one star review. We were there for over an hour and they were not even close to being busy. read more

We had out of town friends visit so I took them to the Open Flame as they have a large selection of different types of food to satisfy anyone's hunger. From steaks, seafood, pasta, bbq ribs and rotisserie chicken as well as burgers and salads. I had the prime rib which is served on Friday and Saturday's only and was excellent, my wife had pork medallions, my son a steak and my friends fish and the other chicken. We all enjoyed our meals and they were all reasonable priced. We sat outside in the patio area as it was a beautiful evening and the have a fire pit in the middle of it. The bar inside is beautiful as everything is in wood and have a big screen tv to watch sports. I had an omelet there for breakfast one morning and it was the best I ever had; fluffy and full of ham and cheese; most restaurants have them flat as a pancake. I recommend this restaurant and go there quite often as it is a very relaxed and comfortable restaurant to go. read more

Normally I wouldn't write a review about Open Flame but I am a long time regular that had some issues yesterday 2 22 2015. Be ware of the following: North East side of the building has Drafty windows and that is the both area. The staff use to be good there. However, yesterday they seemed to be all in La La Land. Sorry we got in there after 8:30am but it took 20 min to get a breakfast that is normally done in a few seconds given the fact that the place was empty. I think the staff went on vacation. The food was good once it came. But for what its worth your better off not sitting in that area. Also if you get placed near the Bus boy storage drop offs ask to be moved. They don't care if you want to talk and don't care if the drop the dishes which make so much noise it will drive you out of the area. Seems to me they could do much better in the service end of things. So Open Flame management lets get some of the $$$ your making into that building. Pay your staff a decent wage and ramp up the service to your customers. Its falling off and we have noticed all that as a long time customer. I will sign off with your name Titanic read more

It was a very comfortable evening, so we wanted to dine outside. Open Flame seemed like the perfect place. We were seated quickly, and the patio was pleasant. Our server was professional and quick with our needs. The problem we had though was with the food. My wife's cod was overcooked and rubbery. My daughter got the grouper over garlic pasta. The grouper was a little dry and the pasta was literally taken from the water and put on the plate. It only that plain pasta taste. I had the fried perch which was ok. It wasn't all bad though. The fried calamari appetizer was good...but it wasn't enough to get us to come back again. read more

Exellent food only outdone by the incredibly personable, knowledgeable, and professional service. Ask for Rachel!! She is, by far, the best Lady to take care of my wife and I at any restaurant we have ever dined. Have been going here with my wife as our special place for the last five years. Always 5 star food and service, just loved it above all other places. The owner has clearly fallen on dire times as of late...the wife and I went for our quarterly special date night only to find that the menu had been chopped to pieces. Regardless we ordered from their slimmed down menu, still expecting excellence, only to be met with the disappointing bagged/canned soup, bagged/canned veggies and our mashed potatoes were clearly boxed mush. My wife's filet mignon was a pre-frozen piece of crap, can't speak to the rest of her food as she couldn't finish it. The crab stuffed mushroom tasted like a Tunas frozen butt-hole. My 30$ new York strip appeared to be also frozen, I ate less than a quarter of the meal, it was barely Applebee's worthy. I only say this in the hope that the owner sees this and backtracks on the obvious cutbacks. Open flame has been my jam for years, the food I didn't finish was so dissapionting, the menu has been similarly dumbed down. I want to give you my money open flame, but not if I can get the same food at the B's for a quarter the price. R.I.P OPEN FLAME!!!! read more

This was my first visit to the Open Flame and my wife and I were very impressed. We sat in the bar and had a couple of bloody Mary's. The bar staff was very attentive and made sure we were happy. Our waiter was Jacob, he was friendly, funny and very attentive . My wife had the deep fried cod, I had the baked cod. Both dinners were hot and very good. The portion size was very good and a great value. Get the apple pie! We will be back! read more

Recommend this Open Flame? Nope, I would not return. I was seated in a major traffic area so everyone passing by kicked my chair. Ordered the "mild" Cashew Shrimp. It was so spicy it burned my mouth! The manager never came out to find out why I sent the dinner back. Wound up with a grilled chicken sandwich. One of the people in our party was never offered additional water. As we were leaving, we noticed a worker cleaning a light fixture above diners and a hostess on the phone on a personal call. Won't be back. read more

Never again will my husband and I be back. Not only was the food awful, we saw the owner making a drink in the bar and drank it while talking to customers! I've never seen that done in any restaurant. We've been coming to open flame for years and would have never thought employees were allowed to do that. Have eaten here a handful of times and have LOVED it every time! Food is great and the prices are reasonable!

First, let me say, even though our server was new, she was very good. One suggestion is to give the servers name tags if thy aren't going to offer their names. Other than that she was very attentive, polite and helpful. Now, on to the food.....it was TERRIBLE!! I ordered fish with angel hair pasta and asparagus. The fish was soaked in butter and olive oil and had no seasoning whatsoever. The pasta was overcooked and the asparagus undercooked. Blah! My husband ordered the veal scalopinni with bacon wrapped shrimp...the veal was the same breaded pressed stuff you can buy in the freezer section at your grocery store and the shrimp didnt come with the meal. He had to ask the waitress to get the dish after the fact...served cold and way overcooked. Over all the only good thing about the meal was the bread and that was only 4 pieces in a basket. Recently had a lunch group of 12--called Open Flame and they were very accommodating--set us up in an area where there was decreased noise and more privacy. The waitresses let us take our time in ordering but brought drinks as soon as we were all seated. We had a variety of food orders--breakfast, wraps, soup, salads,--and everything was served at the same time. No complaints about any of the food. Waitresses were attentive in refilling drinks,etc. We will definitely go there again and recommend it to any of our friends. read more

I have had liver here previously and it was done perfectly. Tonight & a previous visit were totally unacceptable. The liver was overdone & good for shoe leather. I was very disappointed as I have had many good meals here. I hope they find a chef who know how to prepare liver. read more

It's nice to have a server who is interested in serving and not just rushing the customer out the door. We enjoyed the Wednesday nice wine special along with the great meals from the menu. Went here to celebrate Valentines Day with my son. We ordered our food my son ordered chicken Alfredo, I ordered the steak and shrimp special. My entree was terrible. The steak was not cooked to my preference of medium it was rare but it was the only part of it that was edible. The shrimp were way over cooked and rubbery. The onion rings were burnt. The mashed potatoes were not seasoned or actually mashed they were smashed cold and lumpy. My son's food was ok he ate some of it. I told my waiter three times about the food he never got a manager or even acknowledged that I said anything. This dinner cost over $60 and we would have gotten better food at a fast food drive they. AVOID THIS PLACE......I DO NOT RECOMMEND EATING HERE. read more

Took my family to Open Flame for dinner. We arrived at around 7pm, the busboy gave us water and we sat for 20 minutes waiting for the waiter to come to our table or acknowledge us. Please note the restaurant was not crowded as a matter of fact there were plenty of tables available. As I watched the waiter, he tended to his white customers but refused to come to our table where three African Americans were sitting. Twice while sitting and watching the waiter glanced over at our table and it was clear he was not going to come and serve us. As an African American and as a Senior Pastor in the area I and my wife and daughter were offended by the waiters actions. needless to say we got up and headed for the door. We notified the manager who offered to pay for an appetizer and offered us a $25.00 coupon, but it was too late, the anger and the disappointment had taken over, so we left. I will not recommend this restaurant to any of my Pastor friends, congregations or African Americans in general. It was a blatant act on the part of the waiter to not serve us because of the color of our skin. To keep a long story short, if you are black stay away.
