    Matcha Cream Top Latte
    Cheryle L.

I wish they had this in San Diego! I was so happy I stumbled upon Open Market LA during my day trip. This spot is a breakfast & lunch cafe where they offer an array of sandwiches, bowls, coffee, matcha, tea and wine. My parents and I all ordered The Normandie sandwich with au jus on the side, similar to a french dip but honestly much better! Packed with different amazing flavors! It consisted of thick brisket, provolone, mustard mayo, ginger picked radish (wow game-changer fr fr) and scallions with au jus on the side. Okayyyy when I tell you! This will tingle EVERY taste bud you have. I am day dreaming of it as I type this review while I rot in bed on this President's Day holiday at my home in San Diego. The only complaint is the matcha was lacking - I don't think it was ceremonial matcha which I prefer but my fault for forgetting to ask. Still ok tho! Pricing - sandwiches are pricier than most but it's a great value! No complaints really. The staff here were pleasant and efficient! That's always huge to me -- good food but even better staff as they kindly answered my questions about the matcha and sandwiches. They also sell merch -- I purchased a key chain! And they have t-shirts and other cool things. From their IG, it looks like they have events feat. DJ's, and literally an open market with vendors on select days. * Parking - street paid parking BUT I read there's free parking around the corner? * Pet-friendly * Great location I will return next time I'm in LA!

    Chicken thigh sandwich

The place is very nicely decorated and has a lovely vibe. There are plenty of snacks and bottled drinks you can buy and the coffee looks amazing although I didn't try it this time but I'll definitely be coming back. Service was quick and friendly. I got the chicken thigh sandwich and swapped kewpie mayo for Serrano mayo. The chicken was super crispy and breading was delicious although very oily. I appreciated the slaw to balance out the flavor but because of the oily the breading felt, I think it would benefit from a more creamy slaw, more sauce or a tomato slice. Overall the bread was good and the chicken was well cooked. Nothing too crazy. The other dishes on the menu are a perfect reflection of the L.A. food scene, blending some Asian flavors, Mexican ingredients and a classic French dip sandwich which I'll be coming back to try. The miso cookie was a delicious little bite worth trying.

I love this place!! From the sandwiches, to the drinks, to the little items they sell there. Sign up for their newsletter or follow them on IG to see what's happening bc every so often, they have vendors set up outside. I have yet to try the Friday sandwich special but I hope to catch it soon! I've had the Normandie, Olympic and their smashed potatoes, as well as their breakfast burrito. Everything tasted fresh and high quality. I can't say enough good things about the Normandie. It's a great French dip, and the au jus is inspired by the Yoshinoya gyudon. The meat was super tender and the pickled onions and radishes I think balance it out well. The employees are always friendly and helpful. They even have a Ktown wine club where you can get a rotation of wines to try. Validated parking at the underground garage!

    Jammy potatoes and market salad

Love the communal vibes inside and the little market section. One of those places where you can get good, fresh, interesting grub and catch up properly. The Olympic sandwich was pretty solid, but it was the jammy potatoes that stopped me in my tracks. With the aioli it came with? Better than fries. Will be back to work through the menu.

Came by for a mahjong event the other week and decided to get some breakfast. The line to order at 11am sharp moved fairly quick, though in a matter of minutes the number of people more than doubled. Within the restaurant was a single restroom which also had an increasing number of people standing by, overlapping with the first line. Fortunately, everyone was cool and courteous about it. In addition to a small assortment of grocery items to buy such as tinned fish and wines, a local winery was giving out samples of some of their rice wines. I decided on the Olympic sandwich with contained lemongrass chicken and different fresh herbs. It tasted absolutely delicious, though at the price point it felt a tad bit small. All along their walls were many combinations of sandwiches and meals inspired by anime and Asian culture. My friend said the Normandie was worth getting, so perhaps I'll give that a go next time.

Super solid sandwiches. My husband and I ordered the brisket sandwich with a side of au jue and the lemongrass chicken sandwich. Both of the sandwiches were tasty and perfectly crafted. Only con was that it was around $20 with tips and tax per sandwich and on the smaller side. Note: they only serve the sandwiches at 11 am and after. If you go before 11, they'll have breakfast sandwiches and a breakfast menu. The store also sold artisan snacks and a huge selection of wine. Plenty of seats but can see how it could get packed. We went on a Saturday at 11 am and most of the seats were taken. Cute decor cute ambiance and would definitely recommend.

    Normandie (brisket)

Was in the area and wanted to stop by seeing all the great sandwiches others have had. Cute and cozy for a great quick lunch. Good amount of seating, seems like many were grab and go. If you choose to dine there you should be able to snag a table for yourself. Normandie -au jus (dipping sauce) came out pipping hot which I can't complain but it's quite salty. Brisket was tender. Since the brisket is pretty wet, it softened the baguette just enough. Olympic -lemongrass flavor was pretty prominent, chicken was tender but slightly dry. Filling of the sandwich was great but I couldn't enjoy it as a sandwich. Baguette was extremely hard, after 2 bites my jaw was too sore. I ended up only eating the filling and having to toss out the baguette sadly..

Came here for breakfast for the first time. Super solid all around. Had the brown sugar latte and the cream top latte. The brown sugar one was okay but the cream top one slapped. Had their om breakfast burrito and the om sandwich along with a side of potatoes. The potatoes were okay but dang the sandwich and the burrito were tasty. Special shout out to the jam on the sandwich. Also I wasn't aware but there's validated parking if you park in the lot! So that's great to note in the future as parking around here sucks. Entrance to the lot is off of Catalina Street. Service was fast! Plenty of places to sit inside. Also this is just a great place to find a nice bottle of wine or alcohol to buy for someone as a gift. It's a mini market as well.

Matcha cream too Thai tea latte

Cool sando shop in Ktown with a decent size menu with coffee drinks as well as craft beer and other soft drinks available in a cooler area. Bright, airy, open space that is conducive to hanging out for a bit while enjoying your meal. The folks here are very friendly. There are also bottles of wine for sale and some merch for purchase. I ended up ordering the Normandie which is a French dip sandwich with brisket. Really good. I think the pickles are Korean influenced (flavors). Personally I think I could use a little creamy horseradish for some umph but really good sandwich overall and very neatly packaged for the folks intending to take the sandwich to go. If I recall correctly, I also ordered the matcha cream top Thai tea latte. Very delicious. Since it was iced, it was refreshing on a hot day as well. From the looks at the store, there seems to be lots of sandwich creations that they've done in the past that adorn the high walls all around the store. Pretty cool to see what they've done - lots of them seem to be collabs as well. Definitely coming back to try more sandwiches here.

    Normandie and Fried Chicken Sandwich

Open Market is a bit tucked away on Apple or Google Maps; you'll need to turn into the structure right next to the building to find it. Let me tell you... the Normandie French Dip goes HARD. 10/10. I've been to Open Market four times now, and I always get the Normandie. It's rich and super satisfying but definitely on the heavier side, so I recommend splitting it with a friend if you're not too hungry. This time, I branched out and tried the fried chicken sandwich (can't remember the exact name), and it was solid -- 9/10. Think of it as an elevated McChicken or McDonald's Deluxe Chicken Sandwich, but with way better ingredients and flavor. Drinks? You can probably skip. I had the matcha once and didn't feel the need to get it again. Seating has never been an issue, even during peak lunch hours. A lot of people use it as a work/study space, but the foot traffic makes it a little too busy to be super productive. Still, it's a nice spot to chill or catch up with a friend. FREE parking validation for 90 minutes I believe if you park in the structure! Just don't forget to ask the cashier.

Open Market X Laclac Collab Meatball Sub on special souvenir plate!
    Chrystal Y.

I visited Open Market after hearing about their collaboration with Laclac for a limited-time meatball sandwich that comes with a special Laclac Club plate. I didn't realize they offer free validated parking, so I ended up parking on the street and walking over. The person at the register mentioned they do have dedicated parking available. I arrived around 11:30 AM, and there was already a decent line forming. The interior felt modern--especially for a Vietnamese sandwich spot. Special Meatball Sub 7/10 The sandwich was about $20, which is definitely on the pricier side, especially considering most Vietnamese sandwiches usually range from $5 to $10. But I felt it was worth the splurge for the novelty of the Laclac plate. Since the café was packed, I took my sandwich to go. By the time I got home, it had gotten a bit soggy, but the flavors still held up. They included a lime wedge to squeeze over the filling, which was a nice touch. The meatballs had a spaghetti-and-meatballs vibe, likely made with minced pork. Overall, it was tasty, but more of a fun, one-time experience than a regular go-to. Maybe I will go when they have another collaboration.

I had heard about Open Market in recent weeks, and I thought it was time to give it a try when I was in Koreatown. During my two visits, I've found the staff members to be very approachable and willing to answer questions about the menu. They also offer wine and other food goods for sale on shelves lining the wall. I've enjoyed their coffee drinks so far! Their Kyoto cold brew was refreshing with a robust coffee flavor while their OM cream top latte had a balanced sweetness. I've tried their Olympic and breakfast sandwich; while their staff mentioned how both of these sandwiches are popular, I found them to be just fine. Between the two, I enjoyed the Olympic more as I thought the chicken thigh meat, chicken skin, herbs, and aioli melded well together though I imagined it would be more flavorful based on the menu description. The breakfast sandwich leaned more sweet than savory for my taste due to the harissa tomato jam and came with a sizable amount of pickled fennel and arugula. The sausage in the sandwich did not stand out as much compared to the other ingredients. However, I'd be open to try other sandwiches given their diverse menu.

Hidden gem! Came here for lunch with my friend Parking is a bit hard but there are structures or street parking The place is smaller but offers seating inside and there's some space outside to sit Very casual vibe , service was fast condensing the Amount of people who were there ! There's also some speciality items for sale as well like wine etc I ordered the matcha latte and the Normandie sandwich It was sooo good The beef was so tender and flavorful! I have never had anything like that! The dipping sauce "au ju" was so good ! I will definitely be back again

It's not surprising given the neighborhood and decor, but I think they lean towards more Japanese spirits and beers. For someone like me who's never been to Japan I feel like there's a traditional Japanese theme going on inside with lots of wood. A few friends and I came here on a holiday before dinner. Happy hour specials were still going on. I'm not sure if they thought they were gonna get that much business on a holiday but I think there's only maybe one or two people behind the bar. Since it was early when we got there, it was still not that crowded. I got the special which was a shot of Japanese whisky and a beer. Great price! Haha. I've walked by before where this place is really crowded so I assume there's a lot more people working behind the bar during the regular busy hours. Just a great place to grab drink drinks.

The place has a really cool, laid-back vibe spacious, industrial style, and super inviting. It got busy, but the staff handled it well and were friendly the whole time. There's plenty of seating, clean bathrooms (always important), and even a separate room with a stage, so it looks like they host live music and events too. Big plus: it feels like a great spot to hang out after a run or meet up with friends. I've also heard they often have food trucks, which makes it even better. Overall, great vibes, good service, and a fun place to unwind. Would definitely come back with the group!

Even on a soggy, rainy day, this place delivered great vibes. We arrived a bit early and got to explore both rooms, which was a fun experience in itself. They even have water bowls for pets, which we loved. The second room to the right has board games, two pool tables, high tops, more seating, sofas, and the main bar. The whole space has a rustic, industrial feel with lots of cool hanging plants, and the atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming. Everyone was friendly and kind. There was a food truck on site, and we also got lucky with a mobile churro vendor called Hippie Churro--we ordered two churros (one strawberry-filled and one plain), and they were delicious. $7 well spent. We enjoyed a michelada and an IPA, played Jenga, listened to music, and caught some karaoke performances. Overall, an amazing night with great energy and a solid setup for hanging out, playing games, and just enjoying the moment. We'll definitely be back soon.
