This place is a good spot to go to if you're looking a meal with a view. It is gorgeous when the sun is setting. I've been here a couple times over the years (whether for dinners or for cross country banquets) and it was pretty good each time. I definitely wouldn't say this is one of the better steaks I've had by any means. There wasn't the wow factor to the steak that I was looking for. The mashed potatoes were really yummy though and their bread was too. It's neat that they have a soup and salad bar but not necessary to waste your appetite on if you're trying to save for your meal. For the most part the service was good except for having for a to go bag for a little longer than expected. The Orange County Mining Company is a kitschy fun time. The inside of the restaurant is a little old timey with pretty views. All entrees come with a salad bar experience and let me tell you - I love a salad bar situation. You can build your salad, choose from pre-made concoctions, and have yourself a little bowl of soup - based on my observations. I didn't actually get the full bar experience. I dined with my family on a Sunday night and they just kind of ran out of stuff i.e. ranch and that was that. Nothing was refilled, because I guess Sunday, but I'm sure it's great when it's fully stocked. At the table, you get a stack full of complimentary cheesebread. As for the entrees, they were good-ish. A little much sometimes and a little less sometimes. Just somewhere in between. I ordered the fresh petrale sole ($38). The sole is parmesan and panko crusted with lemon butter sauce + garlic mashed potatoes. This was good but nothing special. Someone in my party ordered the Huge One Pounder slow roasted prime rib ($45). For just $3 more dollars, you get a big ole hunk of meat, which I guess could be a good thing. For fifty dollars per person, this was a fantastic bottomless bubbles brunch! The snow crab, prime rib, and Eggs Benedict (you have to ask your waiter for it, but there was no up-charge) were all standout hits, and the view was gorgeous. Make sure you've got a good driver, because even just a half a glass of the bubbly in, you're not going to want to traverse that winding road down. We received a gift card for our anniversary. The food was fine, service was slow. When we went to pay with the gift card which said to scan to pay, they said their system wasn't working and we had to have it printed out to use it. We drove over an hour to come to eat here and it was very disappointing that we weren't able to use the gift card. Well - I was kind of disappointed. My family and I haven't been back to Orange County Mining Co since they'd reopened after Covid and really just felt incredibly nickel and dimed. To start, they only offered valet parking (on a Saturday) with no other option. Previously they didn't charge for Valet parking and we would tip both the drop off and pick up ... they had no sign advising of price, and we ended up tipping $5 each way and also got charged $9 for the pleasure of parking. Once we sat down, our hostess was lovely and we went ahead and placed our order. I asked to upgrade my mashed potato to a baked potato - she said sure, $8.00! I don't realize that was just the added size price - I should have had the option of another side. The salad bar is in a different area now and offers much less choice than it used to. Overall everything just felt less so than it used to be and ended up being quite expensive. This used to be a spot we would go to for every few months, now ... Good casual date night or family dinner place. Be sure to make reservations on weekends and holidays so you don't have to wait. If you do end up waiting, there is a bar area where you can grab a quick drink and watch a game. As you drive up, the ride is a bit narrow and lacking side rail. FYI, There's plenty of parking at no cost. The old western feel with mining inspired decorations greet you at the door. Inside a small set of stairs leads you the hostess. The restaurant seating is to the right and left of the hostess station. Low lit lights throughout give the restaurant a more calm and relaxing atmosphere. The seating outside is heated and covered. The view is beautiful from inside and outside the restaurant as it overlooks Orange. Our waiter was attentive, but also very busy. It appeared he was working both sides of the restaurant. Nothing special about the waiter/waitress service here. The people dining were friendly however. The menu is on the slight endWe had the spinach dip appetizer, I would not recommend this if you are having dinner because your dinner comes with cheese bread, salad bar and soup bar. The selection is good enough that the salad/soup bar and just a half slice of bread could fill you up leaving your dinner untouched. We ordered the prime rib with garlic mashed potatoes, which was tasty, but not the best we've ever had. We also had the pork chop covered in applesauce with extra long stemmed broccoli, also good, but a bit tough. I would recommend this place more for the relaxing time, family gathering, and cheaper American food dinner overlooking the city. Food is mediocre to good, but isn't great. Never again! Six of us dined here tonight. Two of us ordered filet mignons butterflied and well done. They came not butterflied and medium rare. We got the waiters attention, he apologized profusely, and said he was going to have them remade. 20 minutes later we asked how our steaks were coming and he said they will be done shortly after 30 minutes we asked him again. He came back and said, he was sorry, but they were not close to being done. Insane, right? By this time, everyone else had finished their meals so we told him just to forget it. The acting manager came over, I think she was a head waiter or something, and apologized and said that they had a table of 20 but who cares. We came here for a holiday party event. The room had a stunning view, spacious, with a full bar, enough restrooms and great service. We first enjoyed a mini bar with appetizers (fresh veggies, cheese, crackers, mini meat balls and potato skins) and enjoyed a groups of high schoolers carolers. For our main buffet, we had three different kind of fresh salads and pasta salad too. We had choices of steamed veggies, beef strips, baked salmon, veggie lasagna, mashed potatoes, and rolls. While we loved the sides, the beef was a little salty and while the fish was flavorful, was a little dry. The dessert table was dream; vanilla cake, tiramisu cake and two types of chocolate cake. My wife and I go here every year for our anniversary (26 years) after being married in the banquet room. We've only missed it due to Covid. We sat without reservations within 30 mins, which was nice because we were able to enjoy a drink in the bar. I recommend getting there early to do the same to enjoy the views (sunset). The food is good, but the reason for the review this time is hands-down, the service. We were greeted by our waitress, Kennedy. She was polite and fun to talk with. She took a few mins to hear our story and make sure our drinks (alcohol) were filled. She found out it was our anniversary, and without asking, brought us a desert plate with a cup of ice cream. I ordered it medium rare - one section was delectably medium rare but another section seemed more well done as this section was tough/dry. Luckily the au jus was delicious, which helped rescue the drier parts of the prime rib. The rice pilaf was okay- texture of rice was good but fairly bland. My husband enjoyed his rib eye. The cocktails were good - we got to enjoy them on the balcony while we waited to be seated. We sat outside so got to enjoy the spectacular sunset. Loved the theme of the restaurant- a bit campy but in the most endearing way. Our waiter was friendly. On the Saturday night we went, valet parking was the only option. There was a self park section but it appeared to be a smaller area relative to spots reserved for valet and was full when we got there at 5pm so we were told we had to valet. We would've preferred to self-park as it took longer to wait for the valet to get our car than it would've took to walk to our car. Valet makes sense to me when dining at restaurants with extremely limited or no parking like DTLA but seems unnecessary here, especially we were required to valet rather than an optional valet service for those that desire. read more

Went here this morning for brunch and what a treat! It was a perfect day to sit on the patio. Dominic, our server, was very tentative and made sure we knew about all the food options, and when I asked for anything watermelon for a drink, he delivered!!! We opted for a nice outdoor seating for our party of 8 and it was worth little breeze to dine overlooking Orange. Our server was excellent and attentive as well as friendly. Props Jason. This time there so many choices, crab legs, shrimp, typical breakfast buffet items, Mexican choices ,salad bar, prime rib and omelette station. There was a large salad bar and fresh fruit. We came to the OC mining Co for Easter Brunch and although some of the food was delicious, some of it wasn't. A) Ambience-we were disappointed to be seated upstairs for two reasons. One, our party of six, was seated at a huge table for ten. It was difficult to converse and lacked a coziness that we have come accustomed to at this restaurant. The room also lacked all the food items that the main floor had, which brings me to B) food- There were no biscuits and gravy or cakes on our floor. Our server said all items were the same on all floors--which they weren't. The food is usually excellent but the cheese toast has dipped in quality from what it used to be. Took my mom and the gang for Mother's Day. As always a nice spot. Service was good. I got the new York steak and had some ribs. The salad bar was good but they change the location so it's abit crowded. Also the guy refilling the item was not very professional in the way he filled it no concern for spilling and wiping and cut in front of the folks that were waiting.
