    305. Chicken Fried Rice

Did a takeout from here on a Friday night. The oldest Chinese restaurant in Chicago, and not one person dining in. All takeout. Shame on us, seriously. The place was spacious and seems inviting yet it was still empty and a table full of takeout orders. The staff here was nice as well. We ordered their Orange Peel Chicken, Beef Chow Mein and Chicken Fried Rice. The orange chicken was good. It had a hint of spiciness but overall a flavorful dish. The chicken fried rice was good as well. A little dry but didn't have a strong dark soy sauce flavor to it which is always a good thing. The beef chow Mein was a no go. It's definitely not the chow Mein that we're used to with noodles. This was beef with vegetables in a thick sweet sauce. Definitely wouldn't order that again. Overall the food for the most part was good. And the prices were fare as well. Despite me feeling guilty for doing takeout, I still can't see myself dining in here. Wouldn't mind doing takeout from here again. Perhaps to try a few other dishes.

Amazingly kind staff and the lunch special is such a deal! Entree + egg roll + soup + white or fried rice for about $14. I will definitely be back!

    202. Mongolian Combination. This is what was left over that I'm bringing home . The portion is huge and shareable . Delicious!

This is the oldest Chinese restaurant in Chicago . It has been open since 1932 so they must be doing something right. I used to come here in the 80's when I lived closer to this neighborhood. I dined in today and it's exactly how I remembered it - delicious. I had the Mongolian beef, chicken and shrimp and it was great . The egg roll was great too. This restaurant maintains old school charm. Pricing is fair. Service is very good. Excellent- I'll be back !

Sorry. You changed your recipe and used crap food. It's disgusting. You used to have very fresh food.

Food had a fishy undertone, doesn't seem like they switch the oil out when they cook. I couldn't finish my food. I wouldn't recommend at all

Has anyone had original Chinese Chop Suey here? It's the dark stew type. I heard they will make it if you give notice and order a couple of large orders.

Solid dinner here in Chicago Chinatown. We're visiting from out of town this weekend, and visited…read moreupon a recommendation from a friend. Our large group was accommodated easily, and we were served relatively quickly after an initial delay while we were waiting for someone to come by. Food came soon after that. We ordered a wide range of things: honey shrimp, beef tripe, pork intestine, Hong Kong style fried noodles. Everything here is solid and delicious. Portions are reasonable too. Ambience is nice, clean, and modern. Only issue while we were here is that some in our group tried to order their baked chicken over spaghetti and they were out of spaghetti. Interesting basic ingredient to be short on here, but rice was not a bad substitute. Would definitely come back here if ever back in Chicago!

The soup was bland--we had to season it myself with the salt, pepper, and soy sauce on the table…read more(which is probably why they're already there). The waitstaff were not friendly at all. The music kept disconnecting and cutting out, completely ruining the atmosphere. If your restaurant automatically adds gratuity for parties of five or more, DECLARE IT CLEARLY UPFRONT. Don't wait until customers are leaving to explain it. We had already tipped, but our waiter actually ran outside to tell us it wasn't enough because it HAD TO BE AT LEAST 18% GRATUITY. Forcing an 18% gratuity after providing terrible service and mid food is unacceptable. Be transparent about your policies from the start instead of putting customers in an awkward situation after the meal.

Be prepared to wait a little bit for a table, or share a big one with another party at peak times. Prices are reasonable and portions are pretty generous. ===== Kind of lost count of how many times I've been. Love getting the dim sum and noodle dishes here. Some favorites: beef cheong fun with egg, siu mai, Singapore noodle, xo rice noodle rolls, spare ribs, pork and century egg congee. All the food has been very solid. Inside is always bustling and can be a bit crowded. Service is pretty friendly as far as Chinatown goes, and very efficient. There's a guy who works there who I think is the manager or something, because he puts in 200x effort and is always hustling. When he's not around it feels like something is missing. Prices are very reasonable and we like ordering a lot here so that we have tasty leftovers for later. This place has quite a few big tables and is good for large groups. My only nits are that very occasionally a dish or teacup will have a dirty spot, and that the bubble tea here is kind of meh. I don't remember exactly which one I ordered, but it was a little watery and lacking in flavor. It's also probably tough since they're boxed in by boba places now. Pro tip: When you first get your table, they'll ask you what kind of tea you want. If you ignore them or don't know how to answer, the default is green tea. Another one is to come at off-peak times. Not only will you get a table faster, but I think they tweak their portion sizes depending on how crowded it is. Definitely will be back! And I recommend you visit too
