Cheerful service aside, there is just nothing I like about Oregano's Pizza Bistro in Surprise. I don't like the food. I tried one of their huge salads once, and it was so overloaded with some spicy bits and a ton of greasy dressing. I couldn't enjoy it, and I love me some funky dressed up salad. I didn't even bring this home. Pasta is pasta. My husband always asks for his mushy, as if he had no teeth. This is apparently a hard request to fulfill. I was unimpressed by their red sauce. My tongue whined and said it was acidic. We did not try the pizza. It appears to be popular but when we observed tables near us leaving slices behind, we took the hint. My biggest beef is the nutty layout and the difficult access for customers with disabilities. Tight turns and lots of booths instantly cut the tables available to those of us on wheels. When Oregano's built in Surprise, they had to know that this community has lots of seniors and others who need some extra space. As a couple with both of us disabled, our options at this restaurant are too limited. If we want to go out with friends who also get around on wheels, this isn't an option. I might understand if it was an old building. But it's not. Coupled with the food, this one is a never again and no thanks for me. read more

We arrived about 6:00 this evening and were told there was about a 30 min wait. At a little after 7:00 someone came over and apologized for the wait and said they were cleaning a table for us. There were 3 high top tables available but they weren't serving there. For good PR they should have served us there or at least offered us a discount or a dessert or maybe free drinks? In the past I have hated the waiting at your various restaurants, but this time there was a way to solve it and no one would take the initiative to make it right. The only reason I gave you 3 stars was that the food was very good and the service and our server were very good. I think Oregano's needs to think about their PR. This location is just horrid we got there got on the waitlist said 45 minutes and didn't get seated for an hour and an half. Hostess was super rude the waitress was ok asked for an ice tea to go never brought it to us but yet they brought to other clients. It's crazy how it can be so different from others. Another great time at Oregano's. Wait time was about twenty minutes and so we sat out in one of the outdoor seating areas to pass the time. We were called pretty quick and taken to our table. Our waitress was wonderful and attentive and answered any questions we had. I am obsessed with the Alfredo the Dark, but came today determined to get something new. I decided the Italian Flag Lasagna was the winner. Filled with sausage, meatballs, spinach, Parmesan and ricotta with red pepper sauce. OH MY GOSH! Heaven. When it comes it is covered in sauce and they added more fresh Parmesan for me and you just don't appreciate the goodness until you cut into it and see just how much meat there is. I typically stay clear of lasagna because it tends to be sauce and no real meat, but definitely not here. Matched with the garlic bread this was the perfect dish for this rainy day. I don't recommend ordering any type of appetizer or side salads unless you're s huge eater and bring friends because this lasagna is a lot of food. I left so full and happy. Ordered a vegetarian dish according to their menu, the Big Rig pasta, which I've ordered for years. The first and only time I ordered takeout from this location, the pasta sauce had meat in it. I give two stars because in general I love Oreganos food, but the other three are missing because of one sour employee. We walked in at 8:10 pm and didn't know they closed right at 8! Oops. There was an employee folding pizza boxes up front that felt the need to not say "Hi!" But instead loudly yell "we closed at 8" in quite the unfriendly tone. Looking shocked (because it was so early to close, plus how busy they were with people in the restaurant, but mostly because of her attitude in letting us know..). We took a smooth U-Turn out the door with a cheerful 'Thank You!' only to be followed by her snotty "Have a good day." She should have just kept it to herself really. When we got to our car, both looked at each other and said "well we probably won't go to that location again, that's too bad". This place was super busy. We went on Friday after Valentine's Day and there was an event in town so waiting was expected. They have a great system of waiting for your table where Yelp actually tells you where you are in line for waiting. It was true estimate for us. I did hear other diners saying it was taking longer then what they were told it would. When we were waiting we were able to get served regular soft drinks from the bar. They didn't charge us there but said it would get added to our check when we get to the table. Bartender who was busy but still had time for a smile and put extra cherries in my cherry coke. Our server was super friendly and nice. Kept us up on refills and kept the table cleared and putting our salad leftovers in to go dishes to make room for our dinners. I ordered meatballs with my ziti and the kitchen had forgotten to put them in. It was put on a side plate very quickly. The guy we had was an amazing server. Oregano's is a family favorite but this location is sub par. Waited an hour for a table to seat 5 adults and one child on a Sunday afternoon. Understandable considering we were kind of specific on our seating arrangements but nothing was offered to us while we waited. No double checking to make sure we didn't want any of the other options that opened up and no drinks were offered to us while we waited (the other locations always ask if they can grab us a drink while we wait). Nothing horrible but it was just an awkward experience. No kids menu was offered for my daughter and no extra effort was put in. Maybe it's a Surpise thing haha Ordered the Oregnos Favorite salad, waitress told me that they accidentally put chicken on it (I'm a vegetarian) so they said they would remake it. Brought me the new salad and it STILL had chicken on it. Our plates were also dirty with dried food remnants on them. Oregano's lost a long time customer! This was the worst dining experience I've ever had. Waited nearly an hour with no food and the response from the waitress was to quote the exact number of minutes that had passed since she entered our food order and blamed the nearly one hour wait on the (thin crust) pizza. The manager's response when we expressed our frustration was to ask "are you going to let me speak now?". Manager was defensive and rude and clearly had no desire to address our concern. Unfortunately we weren't the only one with dining issues tonight, as the one table next to us complained that their pasta arrived cold, and the table on the other side of us questioned why the received their pasta before the salad (the response from the waitress was that the pasta "guy" is different from the salad "guy"). We've enjoyed oreganos at this surprise location, as well as flagstaff, Tempe, Scottsdale and Glendale, but unfortunately will not be returning again in the future. I love the food here, the pasta is consistently delicious specifically the pine top ravioli and the big rig pasta. The atmosphere is very Italian 50s if you like that sort of thing. If you don't then it can be kind of annoying. There is very little signal in the restaurant and they do not offer wifi. They also offer take out options which are very convenient. read more

The positive: Food is delish! The El Diablo Shrimp Pasta has a good kick to it! Don't try it if you don't love spicy food. A good alternative is the Lady is a Scampy shrimp corkscrew pasta. Equally delish without the burn. The negative: the hostess was horrible at estimating wait time. We were told 25-35 minutes, but ended up waiting almost 50 minutes! (On a random Monday night) They don't have indoor tables for parties of more than 4 or 5. So, if your party is 6 or more, either you sit outside or wait until two tables next to each other are free. Nothing hot, everything served luke warm, minimal sauce. I wish I could give them a zero. We ordered food online at 6:10 and was given a pick up time of 7:00. After arriving before 7 I was advised the food was not ready. I waited and waited and then the lady stated you can go sit in the car and I will call you when your food is ready. After waiting 3o more minutes I came and checked again and was advised it wasn't ready. At about 7:50 I was given my food. When I got home I realized they failed to give me all four of the items I called. I spoke with a lady who put me on hold after she obtained my information. Angela advised she is sorry but they are out of lasagna so she can issue a refund. To which I replied well what should I advise the persons whose meal is missing ? Guess this is not the place for delivery? Everything that was supposed to be crispy was soggy or overcooked. Zucchini was soft and soggy, way overcooked. Cheese bread was tough somewhat, but was flavorful. Cookie ordered was not fully cooked, had to put it in the oven. Would Not order delivery Or pickup as both have no quality control. I feel badly for leaving such a negative review, but just wanted to share my experience. Oregano's is a really cool spot. The lights and decor are a nice touch. Our family came in and ordered a deep dish pizza. The wait time for the pizzas are anywhere from 35-45 minutes. No problem especially if the food is worth. Unfortunately when the food came out the waitress brought a thin crust. She recognized the mistake and offered to remake the pizza, but with little kids we weren't about wait another 40 minutes. The pizza was not good at all, especially given the price. The waitress did not offer any discount for her error. I called the manager a few days later to explain what happened, and he was very apologetic. He told me he'd call me the next day with a solution. That was three weeks ago.
