Always enjoyed eating at this place and later, doing the take out-until. One day I went in to pick up my order and the man said - I remember you, you ordered and never came to get your food. NO I said, not me, I would never do that. Oh yes, I know your voice, I remember you. Well, he was wrong and I was really unhappy with our order. This place is pretty solid :) the outside looks a bit old and unwelcoming, but once you step inside the restaurant it has a nice homey environment. Their food isn't groundbreaking, but it's good. It's also fairly priced, and perfect for students that want some Asian flavor. I come here often, and I plan on coming back more in the future. Nice place. The food was delicious. You get to select a spice level on some dishes, so if you usually enjoy spicy food I recommend a 3-5. 3 seemed somewhat mild 5 was the spiciest level they had. Overall a good experience, but I felt like our wait was rushing us... Not rude or anything but offered takeout containers before we had finished eating or even asked for them. OG has hiked up their prices but without being explicit and clear about it. I ordered a meal that was less expensive than I usually do but paid significantly more. The prices on the menu were the same but they put in a service charge and group charge (party of 5) without mentioning it so my $10 meal became a $16 one. In addition, the receipts detailed none of these charges so there is no way to see what you are actually paying for....... Will not be returning. read more

I used to come here for lunch at least once a week since it opened. After a year long hiatus, I finally made it back here this week. It is great to find out that my favorite rice noodle soup with beef is still as hearty and homey as I remembered. My OG favorites are: -Noodle soup with beef (of course), -Spicy thai basil with tofu (full of fresh veggies), -Green curry with tofu (mild but delicious), -fresh basil roll. I understand that this place may not be everybody's cup of tea, and I confess that not all dishes here tickle my taste buds. However, I am and still will be a fan of OG because my favorite homey noodle soup is here, the service is fast, the lunch menu is a bargain, and lastly the owner and his staff are all super nice and friendly. My friend and I shared a Pad Kee Mow at spice level 2. Food was absolutely delicious, and all of our friends also agreed about theirs. Portion sizes were appropriate and 1 entrée could easily be enough for one person. Staff was very friendly and someone always came by to refill our waters. My only complaint is that the waiter took a long time to take our orders- we went up to them and told them we were ready. We had a reservation following graduation. The whole restaurant was booked that evening and there was a sign on the door saying no walk-ins after a certain time, so it wasn't crowded. However, food came out in a timely manner. I met some fellow yelpers here Friday evening for dinner and it was a great experience! This place ended up being a really good choice for several reasons. The menu is extensive but affordable, they have a range of non spicy to very spicy items which accommodated the different needs of our party of 6. They also have vegetarian options and items that could be made vegan, which we needed. They are BYOB and can seat different party sizes including a large table they told me could seat up to 16 people. They were one of the few businesses who quickly returned my message asking about accommodating our needs, within just a couple of hours. Since I got out of meetings early on Wednesday, I stopped by to make the reservation in person and scope it out. The staff was impressively welcoming and friendly and helpful with my questions. I got the impression they can handle same day reservations as well. The location has a beautiful layout with lovely lights and a modern, trendy vibe but it was very low key and relaxing. I immediately liked it. This location is on campus, on Ave B, between Oak and Hickory. They are situated between a gas station and a Jack in the Box. The parking lot is small, with about 7 spots, but there is street parking and luckily it doesn't get crowded in the evenings. They gave me a to go menu so I could verify the dietary needs could be met, and of course, I decided to order something to go to try them out. I split the crispy chicken fried rice $8.99 and fried pork and veggie goyza for $5.99 with my husband, and we had left overs so I definitely got my money's worth out of them! The goyza had a good cook and delightfully crispy edges and the chicken had the perfect amount of breading and wasn't greasy at all. When we arrived on Friday one of the gentleman recognized me and was just as friendly, which was a nice start to the evening. Our server struck me as either new or a little anxious dealing with a party our size, so there were some stalls in the evening and confusion with the checks. However, they were friendly, extremely accommodating to all our requests and we had a good time. The appetizers range from $4.99 to $6.99 and we got 3 choices to share. I have to say that I have never liked tofu... ever. Luckily one of our party explained to me the correct cook and I finally got to try good tofu! The fried tofu had enough for everyone to have several pieces and came with a peanut sauce. The cut reminded me of funky crinkle cut fries but was interesting to look at. It had crispy edges and a mostly firm texture and I liked it with the sauce. The corn patties came with a sweet and sour sauce and were perfectly fried with a very satisfying crunch, I enjoyed those a lot. My favorite however was the Roti that was a wrap with chicken, potatoes, yellow curry, carrots and peas. This was exploding with flavor and so pleasant, I wish I had ordered two orders because there were only 4 on the plate. I would order any of these dishes again, but the Roti is a must. As far as entrees go, almost every item on the menu was $8.99 or $9.99 including stir fry, fried rice, curry, noodle dishes and soups. Some were even cheaper but I must say that the portion sizes can definitely be shared and those who shared are the only ones who didn't leave with left overs. In my opinion, if two people got a curry and an appetizer, they would both be full. If we are talking about the fried rice, I feel fairly certain 3 people could share a fried rice portion and an app or two and be completely satisfied. They definitely get points for being a great value on portion and price. I was impressed that everyone got a variety of items and spicy levels and that they delivered to everyone's expectations. Someone got the pad kee mow (not spicy) and mentioned this was her go to at any Thai place to measure by. She seemed satisfied and those who sampled her dish did as well. Someone else got the pineapple curry at a medium level and seemed content with the sweet and somewhat spicy delivery. I thought that was one of the prettiest dishes of the night. Several people shared the panang curry with tofu, medium spicy I believe. I wouldn't have dreamed of trying this because I am so bad at handling spicy food, but everyone who tried it seemed very happy with the flavor. The Tom Kha soup was ordered and I was very close to it so I saw it looked beautiful but it was reported as very spicy to me so I didn't dare touch it. :) Someone tried the crispy chicken fried rice and it appears they are consistent so points for that. I got the combination meat fried rice and thought the cooks on all the meat were equally good, which is pretty rare in my opinion. Many things were tried. So I'm gonna break it down best I can. But before that they have redone not just their menu but the interior has a much cleaner, open, and trendy vibe to it. I went with a group, total 6 people, and it was handled well only a little confusion with the check splitting but that's understandable. Appetizers we tried: Corn patties: solid dish, cheap, good texture, served with a standard sweet and sour sauce. I would have loved a little garnish but that's just me wanting my pictures to be prettier. Fried tofu: also cheap, not greasy, crispy but with a soft inner texture, the cut of the tofu made us all confused as to what dish it was. Roti Mataba: first time I've had this it's ground chicken, potato, carrots, green peas, yellow curry, in a roti wrap. Served with cucumber and red onion that was soaked with a kinda sweet sauce. Great flavor, defiantly my favorite appetizer of what I tried. For dinner all of what was ordered: Pad Kee Mow with chicken (mild) Vegtables had great texture and the basil sauce was on point, this is one of my standards of mesurment for Thai places and for $9 it was a great deal. Also I should add that the chicken and the egg that was in the stir fried noodles were not only super flavorful but very generous. Panang curry with tofu (they ordered it spicy) I got a taste and it was really good, I gotta note for next time to try their green curry. Pinapple curry with chicken (medium spicy not sure but sure enough) Kinda sweet for me so if I were to order it I'd get it really spicy just because I can. Crispy chicken fried rice and Combination meat fried rice The flavor of the fried rice was really good and both portions were huge and I mean can they could have easily been split between two people and both of the people who ordered them went home with left overs. I recommend giving this place a shot if you haven't before. I've ordered carryout from OG several times and I cannot stop! I've gotten the khao soi several times and I'm seriously obsessed! I crave it constantly. Today i tried the OG shrimp, which were alright flavor wise, nothing out of this world. I've also ordered the OG homemade dumplings, which were really good, although I've never been a fan of the sauce it is served with. Needless to say, I was pumped to find dim sum style-dumplings in denton. With that being said, I cannot wait to try the egg noodle and wonton soup, a very traditional soup that I grew up with. Oriental Garden must have been managed by a different person before -- the pricing is now WACK! I ordered a white rice side ($1) and a coconut ice cream ($4.99) which comes to $5.99 and with Texas tax (8.25%), it should total to $6.48! Guess what it came to??? $7.64!!!! I inquired about it and the guy at the cashier said they have an 18% gratuity tip. Problem is they don't have a breakdown on the receipt and only show the final price. Even with the 18% gratuity tip, it should come to $7.56! Though the 8 cent difference doesn't seem big, I wish they would at least say that they charge a gratuity tip. I'm basically giving 5 stars to the Pineapple curry and Veggie Tempura. I mean their other stuff (especially curies and noodle dishes) is great, but Pineapple curry extra spicy is something I'll never find anywhere else in the world. Trust me, I have searched high and low. Well, I've searched mostly high but whatever. I've tried Pineapple curry in NYC, San Fran, Austin, and Portland, and I still cannot find it as good as those hoes make it at the OG. And it's CHEAP too, new and profound levels of inexpensive. It's so good, the last time I flew back to Austin I made a friend of mine pick me up some to-go before he drove down to visit me. Mind you, Denton is 3 1/2 hours from Austin, so it's not exactly a convenient situation. I know what you're thinking, "wow that's real dedication to the XX-Large lifestyle."
