This place has bad food compared to its other location in Amherst (which is already bad). The service was slow and the soup dumplings were probably the worse I've ever tried. I'm telling you, I've bought better frozen ones at the local Chinese store and even at Trader Joes. I've come to the conclusion that they must have made a mistake and maybe the lost soul who was supposed to make the soup dumplings that day was sick or maybe he forgot that there is supposed to be some SOUP in the dumplings. I'm going to give this place 1 more chance I'm probably 3-6 months, and if the soup dumplings still taste drier than the Sahara, I'm going to need to speak to the manager. I grew up in LA so I've been spoiled with really good Chinese food all my life. I've found that Oriental Taste is a really good place to go when I'm craving Chinese food, even though it's not the most authentic food I've ever had. Everything I've tried so far tastes pretty good. The service is generally pretty good too! I'm not a huge fan of their name but I'm not sure if that's something they can do anything about at this point. read more

This used to be Zen, a pan-Asian restaurant we liked. We trued this place a couple of times and we won't be back again. On our final visit there were major service problems. It was like no one serving knew how to do their jobs at all. We ordered our food to a woman who apparently didn't know enough English to do that. She was essentially keeping us busy for a few minutes while other staff baffled customers at nearby tables. 7 minutes later a second employee took our order again to our astonishment. Drinks didn't arrive. Employees were walking around dazed like chickens with their heads cut off. After a long frustrating wait entrees started to arrive before drinks and appetizers. We asked for our drinks 5 times. Sauces and sides were requested (soy sauce for sushi & sauce for scallion pancakes). It was like the regular wait staff took the day off, were sick in bed, or were fired and they sent family members with no experience in their places. No apologies or explanations. Customers were lined up at the door not being seated. Another table of ten walked out. Very strange and disappointing. read more

Came here for lunch with a group of people during a road-trip on a Saturday afternoon. The food was good and the service polite. We only ordered off the dimsum menu, so we didn't try many items (they were sold out of a couple of the more interesting looking things). This restaurant's sister in Amherst is GREAT. This was our third attempt here in NoHo and again it was a disappointing dinner. So, Three strikes AND YOU'RE OUT! The cold sesame noodles were pasty. The soup dumplings' pastry was way too thick and it contained no soup! The Kung Pao Shrimp was a crude attempt at an easy dish, being over powered with celery and way too few peanuts. The staff were all friendly, but appeared disorganized. Sorry folks; I guess we will stay in Amherst. We have been back to this place since the above review. The best Chinese restaurant on the area , they provide a tasty complimentary chips with dip . I ordered soup and Lu main noodles and chicken garlic with fried rice and they were super delicious. One of the worst dining experiences in recent memory. Appetizers came 20+ minutes apart and were respectively mediocre (miso soup) to just plain bad (scallion puffs). Entrees then came 25 minutes apart and were respectively really bad (spicy tofu) to borderline sickening (sushi made with undercooked, under seasoned rice and gamy fish). So, basically, my son and I dined alone (badly) together, since we each got our meals at different times. Servers were indifferent to the delay. Then, when I asked for the check because we were in a hurry, they took my card and disappeared for yet another 10 minutes, returning only when hailed. Upon their return, they *still*'did not have the slip for me to sign; they rather had to confirm that they were running the right credit card. We departed late, still hungry, and feeling mildly ill. To be honest I wanted to like this restaurant. My fiance and I went in a little bit after opening. We were the only customers at first and placed our order. After waiting and seeing them bring out the food for the tables that came in 15 min after us we became a little miffed. Once our food came out the appetizer was almost served with the lunch. We also noticed that the other tables were getting the fried wonton strips right when they arrived but our table never received any. As good as the food was I probably will not return. We came here because Zen was our favorite sushi place in the tristate area and had low expectations as Zen was so good. We were skeptical because we saw the iffy reviews about the quality of their sushi but decided to order the spicy tuna roll anyway. It was some of the best sushi we've had! We ended up ordering a second roll (the salmon roll) and it was even better. Both rolls were reasonably priced ($5.25) and packed with delicious fish that melted in our mouths. We did get a Chinese dish as people had recommended it, which was good, but definitely not as good as the sushi. Can't wait to come back! Highly recommend. read more

Three of us ate lunch on 12/18. It was our first visit and definitely worth it. Hot and sour soup was excellent, but the best food was the salt and pepper shrimp - the best we ever had. One in our group had tofu but it was really soft - I didn't like it, but apparently that type is supposed to be soft. Kung Pao shrimp was also very good. read more

The former restaurant at this location, Zen, was my favorite in Northampton. I was reluctant to try this new restaurant that took its place. I am happy to report that Oriental Taste is even better. The menu has very unusual offerings and it was hard to pick among the many choices. We had Mapo Tofu and House Cured Pork. They were both delicious and so plentiful that we took home a big doggy bag. The service was excellent and accommodating to my request for not too spicy. We will definitely be back!! A great addition to our dining choices in Northampton. read more

I've gone to Oriental Taste for years. At one time, they were my absolute favorite restaurant. They had the best Dan Dan Noodles I have ever tasted and I ate there three times a week to have them. It was the perfect lunch. Eventually they changed cooks and the the noodles served were the worst I have ever tasted in any form, anywhere. It's been a long life and that is a lot of noodles/pasta. So I switched dishes and started eating the Sichuan Boiled Fish Fillet. It was divine. Hot and spicy, filled with Sichuan red peppers, life was very good. They changed cooks, it went down a little but I would still buy it although not nearly as frequently. Then I got take-out last month and I got both the Dan Dan Noodles and Sichuan Boiled Fish Fillet. There was not a Sichuan red pepper to be found. Neither dish had ANY heat. I won't be back anytime soon, and I mean for years. I don't know if everything has gotten so bad, but a waiter was cutting up the fish for sushi so I imagine it might be. And to top it off, they had told me the take out would be ready in 15 to 20 minutes, but it took 40. The restaurant was NOT busy -- I imagine an indication of what they've become. read more

Great food! Loved the jalapeño yellowtail roll the first time I had it, the second time they just put entire jalapeños in the roll instead of small sliced bits. I thought I was going to die. Let me start by saying that this is my favorite place for Chinese food in the area by far. Oriental Taste's food is consistently fresh and on-point. Their menu is large and represents both the American General Tso's that we all know, and extends to pigs ears and pork belly dishes that you can't get anywhere else around, and let me just say, if you go a little out of the way of the traditional Americanized Chinese food, it's delicious. The cumin flavored dishes are spicy and strong and the multiple braised and roasted pork belly dishes are simple, delicious and well-made. The dim sum style appetizers they offer are good, although not the highlight of their offerings; and the sushi is really just average. It's as good as any sushi restaurant this far from the ocean. I recommend this place for Chinese that's a step up from anywhere else and urge you to go try something you've never had before. read more

This place was disappointing. It's a nice spot in downtown Northampton, a pleasant-looking place to eat, and we had been looking forward to trying to restaurant for dinner. The service was prompt and friendly, and it was quiet and unhurried. But the four of us agreed that the food was only OK. The cold sesame noodles had a sauce that was bland, and there wasn't much on the noodles. The avocado sushi came quickly, but tasted stale, as if it were made several hours before and refrigerated. The sesame tofu was only OK. Our party had a difference of opinion about the baby bok choy/black mushroom dish. Some thought it was delicious, but one person complained that it had too much butter. Overall, the place fell far short of our expectations, and unfortunately we will not be returning. read more

Dined here twice, once with my wife (we're both vegan) and once with my son and his girlfriend (they are not at all vegan.) We were all delighted with the food. I loved the fact that there was nearly an entire page of dishes suitable for vegans and vegetarians. Variety and quality! The service is fast and accommodating. The food is very fresh and the servings are plentiful. Everything was cooked and spiced just right, and quite delicious! The prices are VERY reasonable. The restaurant is very clean and attractive.
