Seating was comfortable but not sure if they have outdoor heaters because it did get a little chilly. I ordered the Noodle Curry and my friend ordered the Drunken Noodles and the quantity was huge for the Drunken Noodles but wasn't as big as I had hoped for the Noodle Curry. There also wasn't much chicken in the Noodle Curry as I would have liked. It was also incredibly difficult to find good parking near the restaurant. I came back here for a second time to try some more dishes. I absolutely adore Origin Thai. The food is tasty, and they really care about their food presentation. Let's face it, food tastes better when it looks better - we are all visual creatures. Origin Thai has a very dark ambiance with great decor. Noodles and main dishes are a little pricy. Some of what we ordered was outstanding, while other entrées were just okay. Origin Thai really hits it out of the park with their free range chicken and curries. I've tried two of their curries, and the green curry with beef is my favorite. The sauce is creamy and flavorful. We don't usually order chicken when we go out to eat but decided to give it a try. This was some of the best cooked, juiciest chicken I've ever had. It's sesame encrusted, which gives it a nice nutty flavor and a crunchy texture. Not everything was as impressive as the aforementioned. We order our tuna dish medium, and it came out well done. Really unacceptable when you're spending close to $30 for an entrée. They shouldn't have served this dish to us, and we probably should have sent it back. The shrimp in the pad thai was also a little overcooked and rubbery. I've visited Origins in Somerville a hand full of times over the last few years. Origins consistently delivers delicious, authentic, and fresh Thai food at a fairly reasonable price. For that reason, Origins has become a stable in my book. Origins is located in the quaint town of Somerville. The restaurant is so cozy and cute! I absolutely love the decor. While it may seem small from the outside, it is actually pretty large inside. There are two dining rooms... personally, I prefer the side room as I find it to be more spacious. There are a decent amount of tables, both big and small, making it a great spot for a date night or to meet a group of friends. Did I also mention that there is outdoor seating? Yup! Perfect for those cool summer nights. The food speaks for itself. As for appetizers, my favorites are the golden curry puff and chicken sate. My go to dinner entree is the shrimp pad thai. It is always made to perfection! The portion size is fairly large; though I must admit, I can usually finish most of it in one sitting because it's just thaaaat good. Unlike other restaurants, Origins doesn't skim out on the meat. There was a decent amount of shrimp in my meal. It is very flavorful but what I like the most is that it isn't spicy. With that said, if you prefer your food to have a kick to it, make sure you make this request. Don't forget that Origins is BYO! I tend to be wary of Thai curries at restaurants. They're often too sweet and not spicy enough. Definitely not at Origin Thai. The red curry is divine and they deliver on the spice level. Origin French Thai is my favorite Thai restaurant in all of central New Jersey. The are around Origin is super cute and great for a date night. They offer outdoor dog friendly seating which I love because then we don't have to leave our pupper at home. My go to for this restaurant is for sure always, always the pad see ew. No one else comes close for me. I usually get it with shrimp but last time I got it with beef. I think I most prefer the shrimp because they tend to be quite well seasoned and tender. The beef can be a bit tougher. The app sampler we had was good but a bit pricey for what you get. The ice cream sampler was so, so, good. The flavors aren't always your typical ice cream shop flavors so I highly recommend you trying them if you are adventurous like me =). Oh and its BYOB! Giving one star to a restaurant in Division street at Somerville that too for the service os quite uncommon, but indeed we had a bad experience here. We had a party of 10 , 5 adults with 5 kids and even before sitting the waiters looked annoyed for some reason. The set of 3 waitress indoors were very inattentive and even when requested to come , kept us waiting , chatting and giggling among them selves. Food was okish. Wild boar entrees was uncooked , tom yum was too sweet with lots of lemon grass tangy... The only good abt the place was the gentleman bringing up food and refilling our water glass. Had a wonderful Saturday lunch at this cute Thai spot! They serve lunch menu on Saturday which was nice because we were able to try multiple dishes. We started the meal off with mushroom soup/salad. Both were very refreshing. The Thai iced tea really helped cool us off from the outside heat. For the entree, I got the pad kee mao. There were quite a bit of lettuce leaves under the noodles to give a deceiving look, nonetheless it was still a sizeable portion. My parents got the pad ga praw and red curry. Both tasted great but the portion was a little small. Ideally for the price, we would've liked a little more on the plate but the taste was great and we will go back to take a look at the dinner menu. read more

Really good upscale Thai restuarant in Somerville. The mussels were good and packed with flavor. Ordered the lamb chops and the meat just melted in my mouth. It was very flavorful and getting the lamb medium rare was definitely the perfect choice. It was a great mix of french and thai cuisine. We also got the pad kee mao as Thai spicy but I didn't think it was too hot. The flavors were good and it was a decent amount of food. Why would anyone make a trip out to Somerville to eat when there are so many great places in NYC. well this place is jammed-pack every night so there must be a reason. one reason NOT to come here is the corny-fake birthday song they play on the loudspeaker when someone celebrates their birthday here. it sounds like charlie chan on crack (fake AZN accent and all). please don't come here to celebrate your birthday. the food is quite good though from curry dishes to the grilled rack of lamb. another thing slightly weird here is the BYOB policy in most restaurants in NJ. Apparently the alcohol control board Generalissimo in NJ is like the Soup Nazi from Seinfeld, he only dishes out liquor licenses when he feels like it. I just had the bison steak at this restaurant. It was listed as a dinner special but they let me order it for lunch. It arrived cooked to a perfect medium rare in a red wine sauce, accompanied by a taro cake and assorted green vegetable. All mention were delicious especially the bison. I also had a cup of mushroom soup, served piping hot, and a Vietnamese summer roll with peanut sauce for dipping. Both of these were also delicious. Origin is by far one of my favorite Thai restaurants! Everything I've eaten here has always exceeded my expectations, and each dish is absolutely delicious. Everytime I come I always make sure to get the shrimp and crab spring rolls - they are an amazing appetizer to get. They're light and crispy, and the sauce they come with compliments them perfectly! I like this place. Sometimes I don't like that I like this place. I'll start with the good/most important=the food. Their food is delicious and pretty much consistent for the most part. They are unique from some other Thai places in the area in that it is a "fusion" restaurant that serve some nontraditional dishes and has an menu that has some French influences. Some people like that concept and some don't. They do serve well loved dishes such as Pad Thai, Pad See Ew, etc. but I know some people enjoy their restaurants fully traditional. Some people I have visited with have complained about that but it's just personal preferences. A majority of the people who I have visited with have enjoyed their meals and have been repeat patrons (even one of the worst pickiest eaters I know). Personally I suggest the Royal Massaman Curry. It is a very mild curry (as far as curries and Thai foods could go) made with coconut milk, tamarind, peanuts, and avocado. Ever since I ate it there I have never found another place that even came close. They have a good sized menu and I have nibbled on a lot of plates but I keep on going back to this dish every time. I always get it with chicken but I'm sure with other proteins it should be good as well. Serving size for this dish is a decent amount for me but others brought up that for the curry they give there isn't enough rice and they always have to order more. Depending on the protein you get it this dish costs from $17+ and an extra side of rice is $2. Overall this restaurant is a little more in price point than most Thai places around the area. This could be because of the fusion aspect or it being the location of it being downtown Somerville right on Division Street. Now to what I don't like. Even if you make a reservation you will have to wait, with no explanations. Waiting is one thing, not having an explanation or any kind of customer service is another. Back in January for my boyfriend's birthday our party of 5 had a reservation at 8PM. We were not seated until after well after 8:40 even though most of our party was early and all of us were there by the time of our reservation. If it were the other way around, we would have lost our reservation. No apologies, no check in on us. Nothing. There is no formal waiting area so we just waited alongside everyone else and were just awkwardly huddled in the door area trying to keep warm. Every time someone came or went it was freezing. Pretty terrible setup. I would have preferred to have waited in the car with the heat on and gotten a call when the table was ready. Once seated the above experience was decent, not my best experience there by far but it was one of the busiest times I've been there so I gave them the benefit of the doubt for that. Our food came out pretty slow but it was delicious as expected. I brought a cake for my boyfriend and they informed me that they charged $4/person for me to eat it at the table. So basically I paid an extra $20 (which is ridiculous what exactly did I pay for?) to just eat the cake there. My boyfriend's friends don't live close to us and we already brought it all the way there so I wasn't going to bring this cake all the way back home and just eat it the two of us. Regardless I have returned since January but only by invitation of others. Service could be hit or miss. I've never once been wowed by their service but I have been disappointed by it. It's not a quick service kind of place but attention to detail is sometimes missed as well. For example, water refills or missing apps. But I keep in mind usually come with a larger party from my job. Early dinner is a better time to go, we usually go right after work at 5 when they open for dinner. Parking is difficult since it's downtown Somerville which is mostly metered or street parking but you could get lucky. read more

My family went here for Mothers Day dinner and we were all happy with our experience. The food was great and the restaurant is beautifully decorated with a lively, but cozy feel to it. Our group started the night off with 4 appetizers. We chose the Shrimp and Crab Meat Spring Rolls, Golden Curry Puff, Chicken Satay, and Steamed Vietnamese Rice Ravioli. Out of these 4 dishes, the Steamed Vietnamese Rice Ravioli definitely impressed us the most! It was light, but flavorful; the perfect appetizer to start the meal. We liked it so much, we ended up getting a second order! The Spring Rolls and Chicken Satay were also good, but nothing special. No one in the group was raving about them. We all had some mixed feelings about the Golden Curry Puff. While some really liked it, I personally didn't care for it. For my entree, I got the Shrimp Pad Thai which was a definite winner! It was served piping hot and the shrimp was very well cooked and seasoned just right. It came with a generous portion of peanut sauce which added a lot of flavor to the dish. It had a bit of a kick to it which I loved! Take note if you are not a fan of spicy food. I also tried some of the Gra Praw (white rice with a ton of vegetables, garlic, tamarind, chili, a sweet shallot sauce, and chicken was the protein of choice). While it was good, it wasn't great. It definitely could have used a bit more sauce to it for some more spice and flavor. A couple people from our party agreed. We ended our dinner with 2 desserts to share: Roasted Pear Crepe with sorbet and Fried Ice Cream. The first was fruity, but very tangy. Presentation was wonderful, but the taste didn't appeal to me. It was a bit too sour for my liking, especially for a dessert. I was definitely more impressed with the Fried Ice Cream. In my opinion, you can't really go wrong with fried ice cream but the presentation at Origins was fantastic! The heaping spoon full of vanilla ice cream was brought out to our table and lit with a flame right in front of us! How exciting! I only wish I had grabbed my phone in time to take a video! :P Ambience was great at this establishment. Pretty decor with unique paintings/pictures and gorgeous pieces scattered everywhere. It is very charming; truly a great spot for my family. Service was MEH. Staff served their customers in a timely fashion, but they weren't at all warm and friendly. I recommend this restaurant if you're looking for some good Thai food and a beautiful, quaint little spot. Make a reservation because it seemed to get pretty crowded (although it may have been especially crowded because we went on a holiday).
