I took two pair of new pants in to be hemmed. The length I requested was 30 inches. The pair I had marked myself were fine, (however the stitching was poor quality), the other pair are 30 3/4 inches, and the hem is very wavy and uneven. There were also 6 small holes all along the bottom of the hem. These pants are unwearable now, as they are too long, uneven, and have holes all across the bottom. I am not sure if they got a new seamstress but the quality of the alternations are not good anymore. We have brought items here over there years with mixed results. Overall they have done okay, but this past experience has left me flabbergasted. We brought in a pair of jeans for a simple hem. Easy enough, as the name of the shop is Original Hems, right? It was a basic stitch, nothing special. I didn't even need the original hem which I have done elsewhere for a similar fee to what I paid here, which was $12. Came back to pick up the jeans several days later and the hem isn't straight and the stitching is loose and uneven. They apologized, said they had their machines calibrated and it was causing issues and that they had similar complaints from other people. (As an aside, if you knew you were having similar complaints, wouldn't you inspect/fix your work and not just cross your fingers and hope the customer didn't notice?) I took them up on their offer to redo the hem. Came back several days later and the hem looks similar to the previous week. This time when I brought it up they said they needed a special thread that they would need to order and it could take several days to get it, but they would redo the hem again. If you needed special thread, why not call me and explain the situation? Why make me return to the store and, and did you think honestly hope I wouldn't notice, that I wouldn't double check the hem after the last fiasco? Isn't hemming what you do? Why wouldn't you have a variety of threads at your disposal? At a minimum, maybe offer a refund for the inconvenience of multiple trips, multiple weeks and still trying to give me shoddy work? This is a basic pair of jeans. It doesn't require special thread. I have now made 4 visits, paid $12 plus the cost of gas (which I'm pretty sure now exceeds the $12 I paid), and still have sloppily hemmed jeans that weren't even pressed before they were given to me. I have attached photos. The bottom is a brand new pair, the top is what they felt was acceptable. It's hard to tell in the photos, but the hem isn't even a straight line across, at bows up and comes back down at the sides. Update: When we brought the pants back in we noticed the tag already said "Rehem nicely" from the previous trip. We spoke with the manager and received a refund, and have decided to have the pants hemmed elsewhere. There's only so many chances you can give. read more

Four Stars. First time we tried this company. We have found higher prices and poorer quality elsewhere. BF had four pairs of pants hemmed for $5.95 each. They were all properly hemmed and were ready on the promised date. Original hems had provided the loops of removed fabric to prove that they had hemmed the pants and indicate how much fabric they had removed. I appreciated this. I once ran into an issue with another place (Power Cleaners in Like Forest) who charged us for hemming, kept the clothes for over a week and, never even touched the pants at all. read more

I am so happy I found this place in Lake Forest - the prices to hem basic hems start at $4.95 for pants etc . I am so happy to finally find a really nice - clean - beautiful place that only focuses on alterations that is really clean and looks like a fine designer store inside - yet the prices are fantastic and the work is great . I bought a pair of shorts from N Rack that has holes in front but the white tape came out after the first wash - I really didn't like wearing the shorts with my upper legs showing as much so I didn't wear until I needed my new jeans I bought hemmed . Luckily I found this place and brought both my jeans and my shorts in and all in all - $16.95 total for me to wear my new shorts and my new jeans I am a happy camper , I could have paid more for one pair of jeans to be hemmed some where else . This place is really busy yet, they welcome every customer and have plenty of dressing rooms available for you to put your clothes on should you need to get measured , and a few clerks working . When I picked up my clothes only a couple days later they looked great , hung on hangers and pressed , my shorts looked perfect the patch work was spot on . My jeans hem perfect . I will definitely tell all my friends about this great place and thank you all for keeping your prices affordable for everyone as I saw a lot of happy people bringing lots of clothes to you all ! I was recommended this place by a friend of mine. Though the staff and the owner was nice I was not happy with the work. My original pant has split and I asked him to keep the split. The split was there but it was done differently then the original. When asked he told me that he can't copy the same split. I think he should have told me that at the time when I dropped off the pant. Also the finishing of the split was done poorly with loose threads. See the pictures. If you are a professional then whatever you do your work should look clean and in my opinion it didn't show. After seeing the pictures you can judge it yourself. read more

After I left store, they called and said they forgot to add price for sleeves and that they will charge an extra $25 when I pick up my item. Horrible! A final quote should be final. This tailor USED to be terrific... But things have changed, When I first moved to this area just under four years ago, a simple hem cost $2.00 and it would be ready the next day. Then the price went up to $5.00 s gem. Then they started to tell me reasons why a simple hem was no longer dimple but very complicated and never honored the $5.00 price. Today they just quoted be $12.00 for a hem repair on a dress- a hem that had come loose in a spot.sbd, the dress won't be ready for five days... No longer do they provide good, prompt service at a reasonable cost- time to look for another alteration business. Not many businesses have gone up $600% in the last four years - for slower service. I am very disappointed. They don't post their prices/ it seems like their employees just pick a number out of the sky when they quote a price- with no reason to support it. I have given them alot of business over the last many years but it seems greed will come between them and me. I used to refer many people here- but no more.... read more

I love, love this place. Being 5' tall, and having a daughter whose also 5 ' tall we needed a lot of hemming. This is the place that did every pant and prom dress. Time frame is better than I expected. But the sooner you get them in the sooner you'll have them to wear. They also offer faster service for a small fee, check with them. RIP OFF!!! Do NOT use this place unless you like getting ripped off. I took 2 dresses there and one they charged me $70 due to it being lined. Ok fine whatever. But then they wanted to charge me $250 just to hem another dress. Yes it was full and had 3 layers. However one was netting that you just cut. Then $85 to shorten the spaghetti straps and another $85 to close the front of the dress. That's $420 for alterations. Way more then I even spent on the dress. They're acting like I brought a wedding dress that they had to take off appliqués and make alterations. My mom is a seamstress so I understand the work needed and $250 for 2 layers to be hemmed is ridiculous!! They said because the beading on one layer breaks their needles. I don't think the cost of needles equals $250. I moved so didn't want to have to go an hour away to my alterations guy but I took it to him and he's only charging me $150 for everything. That hour drive saved me $270 so it was worth it. Ok now I went again because I got another dress that was the exact same and I mean it's the same dress as the one I took in the previous month that they charged me $70. I know my guy would charge me half the price but I didn't have the time to go to him. So whatever I'll pay $70. But this new girl said it would be $120 I'm like uh no I just got one done here last month for $70. She said no because it has lining. I explained that it's the exact same dress. I then told the girl that I did the transaction with prior and she said no it's different this one has lining. I'm like the other one did too. That's why you charged me $70 for it. They wanted me to leave it to ask a manager and I'm like no I don't have time nor want you to hold my dress. They should be able to call their manager and get an answer right away. Not hold your clothing. Anyways I wasn't going to leave it. I went to another local alterations shop and they are charging me $60. That's half the price as this place. It's sad because when I lived here before I would take all my stuff and they were very reasonable. I would refer everyone to them. But since I've moved back I've had 2 really bad experiences of them trying to rip me off. They don't have clear prices and try to size you up and think you'll just pay whatever. They also use safety pins to mark your clothes which damages most materials especially on my dresses. The alterations place I took my dress to was shocked they used that on my dress. Anyways I will never use them again and will make sure I tell all my friends and family not to either. Good value and fairly decent job. If you want any pants hemmed fairly quickly and at a steal of a deal, then go here! The staff is polite and attentive. It cost less than $5 to hem my son's baseball pants here! The only drawback was it took 3-4 days to get the pants back. My husband recommended this place to me because he's had many pairs of jeans hemmed here (and only for around $5!) I've been here a few times myself, mostly for bridesmaid dresses. I hadn't been in at least 5 years but I went back last week for another bridesmaid dress. This time I needed both a hem and some tailoring around the shoulders. First of all, I was able to walk in without an appointment and was immediately helped. The woman who helped me listened to what I needed and made sure I was happy with the alternation plans before pinning and making the chalk marks. She was very nice and I felt comfortable. I was surprised when she said I could pick up anytime after 4 on Friday. It was already Tuesday so I misunderstood and asked if she meant next week. Nope! She meant the Friday that was only 3 days away! For a bridesmaid dress! Apparently they do all the alterations on-site which is why it's so quick. That's also comforting to know, because it means your garments can't get lost during shipping. I'm guessing that also helps keep costs down because it was only $100 ($75 for the hem which involved two layers of material, and $25 for the shoulders). It's also a very nice-looking place. Based on the interior, I would expect that looks like that to cost twice what it actually did. When I picked up, I was helped immediately again, and the dress was ready for me. I had already paid during the first visit so I was in and out in less than a minute. I tried the dress on when I got home as it was perfect! I had forgotten just how quick and affordable Original Hems Studio is. Now that I remember, I'm going to stop being lazy and start getting more alterations done here. No more walking on my jeans or needing sky-high shoes for dresses! read more

I took an evening gown to have it hemmed ! The seamstress said she could not hemmed the beading which was in the back. She did a terrible job with my dress !!! Great work on all alterations I've brought here!! I've had them alter my suits (jackets and slacks), hemmed jeans and dresses, and adjust straps on sundresses. Most recently, they hemmed a gown for a gala for my teen daughter and did a fabulous job. The dress was satin with several layers in the skirt, and it turned out great! And they were able to do it in just a few days because we didn't find a dress until the last minute. Prices are appropriate for the good work they do.
