My friend's mom swears that this place is the best to tailor your clothes. The staff is pretty nice and professional. The inside is very cool and Hollywood-esque. The waiting room chairs are super comfy. They used to have these annoying trendy chairs made of wire that sucked. But now they're different chairs that rock back and forth and super comfy. As far as I've seen, they do a good job and followed instructions clearly. Prices are reasonable and they definitely recommend trying on your clothes to make sure they fit. They have fancy fitting rooms for the customer. They also always have parking, which is always a plus. And it's next to Snooty Fox and Baja Fresh which are both delicious. read more

I've been coming and referring people here for over 10 years and have spent over $1,000 getting everything from jeans to full suits hemmed/altered. They're the cheapest around and do a decent job on basic alterations. FYI, I would never bring my suits and dress shirts here again as they don't do a clean job, but that's a different discussion. There seems to be newer management (I'm not sure as of when as I don't come here that often anymore). It seems to be now run by an older lady, I believe her name is Talin, which is very rude and has terrible customer service!! I had 2 pants hemmed here recently and didn't try them on until several weeks after having them picked up. Between being out of town for work and honestly forgetting about them, I finally got a chance to try them on, which is when I noticed one of them is still way too long. I just brought the pants back here to get fixed and tapered, along with some other pants, and the owner/manager (Talin) first said these were never hemmed and that they look original. I informed her again that I got them hemmed with another pair of jeans a little while back. When I got to the register to pay for everything, she said she'll be charging me again since it's been a few weeks past the "1 month policy", which is no where to be found by the way. I told her that was ridiculous as it hasn't been that long past and the pants are clearly brand new. Especially since she herself said these pants don't even look hemmed. Long story short, I will never be returning here again and she has lost my business/referrals all over $5.95. read more

They don't do their $2 basic hems anymore... that seemed to be a "special" that went on for a very long time and they just stopped recently so now it's back to $4.99. I brought in pants to be hemmed just a week apart from each other and it was double the price the next time I came. Staff does a great job and are quick in taking measurements. I've gone here to get multiple bridesmaid dresses altered. They are pretty good with making sure your clothes are ready on the said pick up date. Usually takes them about 4 days turn around. Also, the interior of this store is so extra! Hanging chandeliers, red and black, shiny floors... a little too over the top for what they do. Great service, just quite pricey now. read more

I don't usually write reviews, but when a policy is absolutely ridiculous, resulting in a predictably bad result, I felt the need to warn others. I had a evening jacket that needed the buttons reset, to be worn at an event in a few days. With little time to spare before the event, I went to pick up the jacket. All the buttons were poorly sewn and in the wrong places, and none of the support buttons had even been moved, as instructed. The front desk woman agreed it was all completely off with buttons kind of zigzagged. I asked to speak directly to the person doing the sewing - so that they could see the jacket on me - and pin it correctly this time; and see where it all went wrong. I would be willing to wait while they fixed it, as I needed it for the event. And this is where it got insanely bizarre; I was told ADAMANTLY absolutely NOT. "We don't allow that EVER," The people behind the screen doing the sewing, were prohibited from coming out to see the clothes, on the actual person. I tried to point out the obvious, that once again going through an intermediary was the source of the problem - which could easily be averted, and I did not have time to come back. If the person sewing could quickly just see it on me, perhaps I could wait while they fixed it. But NO. Not an option. They were not allowed ANY contact. The front desk person wouldn't even discuss it, and strongly stated that my only options were to take off and hand over the jacket, to be brought to the person in the back, and hope for the best (crazy!), or come back the next day to speak with the owner (for what purpose? and by then it would be too late). How absolutely ridiculous! With the person just a few feet away. I would now have to bring it somewhere else, which would definitely not be done in time. This was so nonsensical! Thankfully, I got a refund, but now I was in a pinch with a jacket I couldn't wear. It was so insane, I had to write about it, so that someone else doesn't go through what I just did. I am usually a loyal and repeat customer, for good service, and the owner seemed like a nice man, but this is such a bizarre policy, and was handled so crazily, I will not be coming back. read more

I've been visiting this place since 2014 and every time i do shorting for a jeans they charge a deferent price no less than $10 but never paid the same for the same thing and i don't know if they charge depends on the brand of the jeans or its happening just with me . The Original Hems In Lake Forest does not measure up. There is an older lady there and she started screaming at me for telling her that the hem that they have done on my jeans has a wavy hedge. Since my last review I figured out that they go easy on tapering because problematic customers verbally abuse the staff after finding that the alterations that they requested were too much. I have been coming here for a few years and this wonderful shop will handle everything I throw at them. Not just the usual: please hem these pants -- but one of my legs is a tiny bit longer than the other, so my pants need to be as well, or else one pantleg drags on the ground. For Original Hems - no problem. Not just the usual: please take in the sides of this top -- but I'm a cancer survivor and had a bilateral mastectomy; so often the front of any blouse or jacket needs to be specially altered to take up the extra fabric as well as adjust for the odd drape on my body. For Original Hems - no problem. They have tailored numerous (probably over a hundred) items for me to help me feel more put together and confident in the skin that I'm in. I couldn't be more grateful for their professional work. Admittedly, once in a while I need to ask them to re-do something, and they have always stood by their work. Their prices are more than competitive, but frankly I wouldn't quibble over $5 or even $20 because it's that worth it to me. I was very afraid to check this place out based off some of the horrific Yelp reviews, but since it's so close to work it was more of a convenience thing, I had to give them a try. I walked in the door to find a girl shouting at an older gentlemen, very loudly. Didn't fully understand what was going on, so I waited about 2 minutes before another girl came from the back, approached me and told me to change in the dressing room. I put on the 2 pants I wanted hemmed, she pinned them quickly and we checked out at the counter. The pricing is a bit confusing because the say "hems start at $2" but they don't/won't elaborate on that, you just see the pricing on the receipt. Turns out jeans were $2 and dress pants $4. I dropped them on a Thursday and they said they would be ready Wednesday after 5pm...seemed a bit long to me for some quick hems, when I asked if I could get them a little earlier she said Tuesday after 5:30. I also requested a tiny piece on the zipper be stitched as well, she said no problem. When I came to pick up the pants there where about 4 people waiting, it took about 10/15mins. When I got my pants the zipper part was missed and the pin was still in it, she said come back the following day... OVERVIEW: Prices seems reasonable, the hems were a little shorter then they were suppose to be and takes a while to get your stuff back, but the part that bothered me most was that anyone of the staff I encountered (4 different people) seemed to have to absolute worst attitudes I have ever witnessed! I got my daughter a couple of pairs of jeans from a brand name store for really cheap (clearance with coupon, can't get any cheaper than that), but the hems were a bit long for all of them. I didn't want to spend a fortune on alterations since they're just kid's jeans and it'd defeat the purpose of buying them at a cheap price. So here I was after hearing about the $2 hems. I brought 4 pairs of jeans, my daughter tried on one pair (spacious dressing room with a sliding door - no ghetto curtains), the tailor dude quickly folded in one of the hems, asked me if the length was okay, pinned it, and voila. That's it. I paid $8 upfront, and they told me to come back the next day. So simple. When I picked the jeans up, I immediately checked the hems, and surprisingly, they looked pretty good (okay, so I had my doubts, it's $2 per pair folks, what can I say). To be honest, all the jeans were still slightly longer than the originally pinned length, but I know that they will shrink after a wash or two so no biggie. I took a picture of one of the jeans to show their work. I'm pretty picky when it comes to alterations, so I'm not going to jump in and bring everything else at once, but I now know that their $2 hems are legit. read more

Let's face it, if you're short like me then your alterations will probably end up costing you a fortune. I brought in 15 pairs of pants and 2 shirts that needed repairs. I was charged $2 for the pant hems and $4 for the shirts. It was incredibly busy but they seemed to be able to keep the line moving. I had pre-pinned the items myself so I was in and out of there like a breeze. Although I did not request to keep the original hems, the basic hems looked good, better than what I was expecting for that price. After trying on all the pants, they still seemed on the long side and not what I had originally pinned. If you're fussy about length then make sure you try it on again before you leave. They did a fantastic job on my 2 shirts. I don't think this is the type of place to get a wedding gown altered but for basic every day items like jeans it's perfect. I came here based off of rave reviews from my parents. I was not disappointed. To preface: I've never had anything hemmed in my life. A lot of my jeans have taken a beating, and now have some trailing jeans parts because of my lack of tailoring. I came here on a Thursday to have 4 pairs of pants hemmed (1 pair of jeans, 3 slacks). $2 for jean hem, and $5 for slack hemming (apparently, because of the material). I only gave them 4 stars because there were at least 4 other people getting adjustments at the same time, and only 2 people working. It took me 45-60 minutes to get everything taken care of. That was a little more time than I wanted to spend for pant hemmings. The staff was very friendly, and was working as fast as they could, but they could certainly use better staffing. I was told my pants would be ready on Saturday after 4pm. I was pleasantly surprised after bringing my newly hemmed pants home. They were exactly what was marked when I went into Original Hems. Original Hems Studio is pretty fantastic. My husband has been bringing his suits there for years at the Santa Ana location. But this visit was my first time there... When you first walk in you'll notice the chic interior design. It makes the place very inviting. The fitting rooms are spacious and nicer than some of the fitting rooms you'd find in some department stores. During my visit there was a small line of people ( approx 4 customers ahead of me) but when I walked in the tailor greeted me and assured me they'd be right with me. Just a couple of minutes later I was being fitted. The tailor was so polite despite the fact that he was working alone and had a line of customers forming. He never made me feel like he was stressed or rushing. He also made sure that the measurements were exactly what I wanted before he made any markings on my pants. The best part: for those of you who don't know Original Hems only charge $2 per hem and they'll do it in 5 minutes!!!!!! Since it was my first time there they waved the price and hemmed 2 pairs of pants for me and made it "on the house" as my tailor said. Yes it was complimentary!!!!! I was hungry so I didn't wait the 5 minutes for my pants. I ended up picking them up the next day but isn't it nice to know I had the option to just wait right there and walk out the door with them 5 minutes later? Great service with quick and easy alterations. There are multiple dressing rooms for an easy clothes swap and there is always someone ready to help size you. I was recommended by a co worker to try this place out and I can't stop coming back. The fact that they make it super easy to turn an outfit that didn't fit right into a new outfit that was hemmed or tapered for me. The shop itself is super nice, clean, attractive and bumping with music. I was very comfortable when comparing places I've been to in the past with a total hole in the wall vibe. That's okay for a restaurant but not where I'm taking my expensive clothes. Every piece I've brought in has held up extremely well. There was only one pair of pants that came out one leg longer than the other but they happily took it in to fix. The turnaround is quick, usually 2-3 days and you will receive a text message letting you know it's done. But lately, the results are not consistent & not very professional event though they have the same tailor (Claudia) whom is not very friendly when you request to talk to her & also lately refuse to make adjustments she use to do. I don't know what has chance that affected their service & quality. The last time I was there she did not make some alterations she agreed to & they told me that they will refund me for, but they never did. I came here because of the reviews about great prices and quick turn around! I got neither! I dropped off two pairs of pants. One was unlined dress pants and they wanted $12 for it, the other lined pants were $20 and the soonest they could have it is 4 days later unless I want to pay an extra rush charge of $5 per pair. The regular tailor offers cheaper prices and quicker turnaround. This place is only worth it if you have cheap denim which they charge $2.95. $4.95 is for designer jeans and $10 if you want original hem. read more
