The good: the carryout was done online. I was sent an email to tell me when my order would be ready and then once it was ready. When I arrived there for pick-up, it was waiting all bagged up with condiments and to-go silverware. My blueberry pancakes were tasty. The bad: I ordered a side order of bacon. All three of my slices were undercooked. I also ordered a veggie omelette and it was also undercooked. I had to put both in the oven once I got home. I understand a lot of places have carry-out menus that limit what you can order online but it would be nice to either be able to speak to a person to place a carryout order vs being forced to only order online or be able to do more customization when you order online. I really wanted to add bacon to my omelette but the online system wouldn't allow that so I was forced to order a side of bacon only to have it undercooked. Will I return? Probably not to this location. I'll trek the additional few miles and stick to my normal Southfield location. read more

My Mom treated me to a birthday brunch at the OPH yesterday. I've been to this and the Southfield location numerous times. I love this location because of the layout of the dining area. It's a little more quaint. The staff adorned Halloween costumes and asked guests to vote for the winner. I found that super cute. The staff always seems that they enjoy working together. They are always professional and personable. The restaurant is always super busy, but the vibe doesn't seem rushed or impersonal at all. I usually order the same thing, but decided to venture out a bit. I had French toast, sausage and scrambled eggs. The eggs were perfect and I looove their sausage patties. They're "porktacular", haha! Anyway, I didn't much care for the French toast and will go back to ordering my usual pancakes an omelet on the next visit. (Both the pancakes and omelets are great!) My friends and I came here last week to enjoy breakfast, and we had Kahla as our server. Safe to say it was the worst service I have ever experienced at this place. She barely came to check on us, did not fill up our water at all, even took almost 35 minutes to bring our food out when 10 minutes before she said it was ready. With plenty to choose from, they even offer a small Gluten-Friendly menu. I say Gluten-Friendly because it is not considered Gluten-Free if they do not sanitize and clean the stove prior to making the food. No big deal, it clearly stated that on the menu which I loved to see. I ordered the Gluten-Free blueberry pancakes and a side of scrambled eggs. Over the cakes where on the smaller side. Let's talk about classic American breakfast. This place is it. If you think about classic American breakfast food you think of an original pancake/waffle house. It's Covid times so no eating in the restaurant yet, but take out is always a good option! I ordered the fresh strawberry crepes and the eggs Michael. The crepe was so light and delicious! The whip cream tasted like cool whip and the crepe was so light, I swear I could eat like 7 of those babies. The eggs Michael was also amazing! I wanted an eggs Benedict so this was the closest thing possible. The eggs Michael was a different twist, but in a good way! Instead of Canadian bacon, it had sausage patties, and instead of a hollandaise sauce it was a creamy mushroom gravy sauce. The mushroom sauce was amazing! So creamy and rich! It made the dish so much better! I prefer this over my traditional eggs Benedict. One of my favorite American breakfasts in the area. My bf and I came in a month ago for pancakes. We waited about 20min even though it wasn't busy when we went. The workers were all extremely nice, especially the waitress. I ordered the dutch baby, which I ordered in the past. My boyfriend ordered plain pancakes. We also ordered turkey sausage and bacon. The sausage was ok. Bacon was really good. The pancake was pretty good, but I remember it being better. My boyfriend thought that his pancakes were okay. They do not have real maple syrup unfortunately. This was disappointing (for my bf) lol. He stated that we can't come back because of this so please add it as an option! I also wish that everything was fresh because something that my boyfriend tried to order, he didn't get because it wasn't fresh anymore since it had been prepared early in the morning when they first opened and were advised against ordering it. It had been a very long time since I visited the Original Pancake House, mostly because each time I tried to go, the wait was ridiculously long. Well, on a cool, rainy Wednesday afternoon, my sister and I finally were able to get in with no wait. I ordered the mushroom omelette, which, like I mentioned when I first reviewed this restaurant, doesn't come with any kind of garnish, other than the gravy, which was actually delicious. I enjoyed the omelette -- very fluffy and filled with mushrooms. JUST mushrooms; if you want anything else, there's an extra charge. At $12, this seems outrageous. But, I was really disappointed with the pancakes. They were very bland and salty. I've had better almost everywhere else -- and I can certainly make them better myself. This is a well established and very popular spot, always teeming with people and very busy. However, I was quite disappointed today. The service person turned out to be a trainee! After waiting for half an hour for our order, we asked where it was. Turns out, waiter never put it in! She didn't even remember what we ordered! 5-10 minutes later our meals were served. Mine was not even what I ordered. Aaron, who was training her, comped my order, which shows that it's a reputable business. I still didn't enjoy my experience there, but I do understand that our waitress was just learning. Perhaps fewer tables would have helped her until she got the hang of things. I've been in the mood for a Dutch Baby for a while now but there aren't any eateries near me that have them on the menu. So, when my husband and I ended up in Southfield this morning I said "OH MAN, WE CAN GO TO OHOP! I CAN GET MY DUTCH BABY!" Alas, the Southfield location was closed due to a maintenance issue but we were undeterred and came to the Birmingham location. Not sure if it was because the other spot was closed, because of spring break, or if it's just always this way, but this place was bangin' on a Wednesday morning at about 10am. We just barely got seated right away, and saw a line forming right behind us. Came at the right time! The vibe is old school inside, lots of retro decor and wood detailing, and they jam pack the entire place with tables, almost uncomfortably so if you're not at a booth. We were so close to our neighboring table that one of the diners had to use our table to set her plates while she was packing up her leftovers! But that's my biggest quibble. Our food came out great. My dutch baby was cooked perfectly and just the right balance of fluffy and custardy, with just a touch of lemon juice and powdered sugar. The side of bacon was also in point. Thick cut and perfectly crispy. My husband got the bacon waffle and while he did not proclaim it the best waffle he's ever had, he did say it was pretty high up there. Coffee was good and the service was snappy. A few little issues like a dirty napkin on the table were remedied right away by our server. Will definitely return in the future for more of that dutch pancakey goodness! read more

I'm still super full after 7 hours! I got the three pancakes that come as it's soft, and it was the perfect dessert! Takeout is always put together in a timely manner, but comes with mistakes half the time so we've learned to always check before driving away. The food is great and the ambience is cool - it has an old fashioned/Dutch-German old country inspired thing with plenty of Americana nostalgia. The specialty stuff is all big and filling - portions are generous. Try the pancakes or omelets, and the "dutch babies" or whatever the big filled special is that day. Teas/juices/coffee is all usually on point. We always joke it's a "special treat" breakfast to go there. My only real gripes are the wait and the service when they're so packed, which is honestly most days! Typically the hosts and servers are good, but sometimes it's kinda ehhhh. And there's almost always a lengthy wait for tables and a long wait for food. It's certainly a bit of a "gotta wait for that good homemade stuff!" kinda thing, but sometimes it's just so busy that stuff is missed or kinda subpar. Added to the fact that it's not exactly cheap, it can lead to a bit of letdown when you have long waits, packed crowds, and little service misses. Maybe they've just caught me hangry a couple times! We paid cash, had server take the FEE OFF the bill. Imagine if we didn't notice it, each customer charged an Additional .58 cents. Times that by 50 checks a day paying cash.
