This was by far the BEST breakfast I've ever had! We stayed at the Sleep Inn last night and we tried crossing traffic this morning but it was too busy so we decided to turn right and pull into here for brunch. Boy was that the best decision I've made in a long time. I got blueberry pancakes, sausage and eggs. And my boyfriend got the eggnog french toast with eggs and bacon. It was all SO DELICIOUS! We are in Amherst for Aunt Rosie's Tournament and figured a hearty breakfast before a 4 hour ride home. Not far from the fields and large enough to support big groups. Staff is friendly. The decor is a little outdated. Probably from the 70's. Although, that's not why we are here. The menu has a ton of options for breakfast. Pancakes galore! I give 2 stars because of three reasons - price, time and quality. The quality is eh ok it satisfy the breakfast craving but for the price it's extremely overpriced for the quality of the food. This place weirdlly enough is busy so my opinion may not matter in for this place but I honestly do noT enjoy coming here because these are consistent aggravations for me. My wife and her family come here a lot so I am forced to join them. The time when we order to when we get the food is FOREVER which is the third reason for the low rating. We have to plan out 2 hours of our day when we come here. The coffee is ok not the greatest and the cups you get it in are misleading to the amount you actually get. First time at the Original Pancake House. Didn't know what to expect. I'm going to start with the things that threw me off a little bit, the 80s interior.... wowza. More importantly, a medium orange juice comes in a glass about the size of my middle finger in height... no joke. You get about 3 gulps out of it for $3 and some change. Prices are a little high, and thats just me being nice. If you're looking for a meal with eggs, toast, hashbrowns and bacon,etc... go somwhere else, hashrbrowns and meat are extra.... a lot extra... just to accompany your eggs and toast. I ended up just getting french toast, you get 4 slices.... but it wouldn't make my top 5. Overall, I think its a good place to bring your family once in awhile but I'll stick to a ma and pa diner before coming back to this place. On a brighter note, the service was good. Came here for lunch. I've only gone to the Main St location, but I must say I was disappointed. Understandably this is a breakfast establishment but the lunch options weren't very appealing. I got the mushroom and ham crepes which came with potato pancakes. The pancakes were good, the crepes were pretty heavy and it was just like condensed soup on top. My friend got 2 eggs with pancakes and turkey bacon. He said the pancakes were good. I expected them to be a full size. they seemed more like silver dollar pancakes for a $9.99 option. Really tastttyyyy breakfast. I got the mushroom omelette with potato pancakes and it was seriously so good. Such mushroomy and egg goodness with a delicious sauce, plus the pancakes with sour cream and apple sauce were a nice side to it. My pops got the Swedish pancakes and I only tried a bite, but it was REALLY good as well. I love simple diners with hearty food, and this place fits that bill. I also saw a lot of people ordering this giant pancake bowl creation thing that looked yummy, so I definitely want to come back and try that. This place is always crowded for breakfast. And if you've ever been here, you know why. Their "Dutch Baby" is absolutely my favorite thing to get here. It's baked inside some type a deep dish(?). A little thicker then a crepe, and bubbles up. Butter, powdered sugar, strawberry syrup, fresh lemons, fresh strawberries all come with it. It's devine! I do also recommend the crepes. They have a good size selection. The omelets are noteworthy. Eggs are so fluffy and thick you would not believe it. This is also one of the only restaurants that I know of, on this side of the Canadian border, that offers pea meal bacon as a side. Oh...and did I mention the FRESH. SQUEEZED. OJ. Visiting family in Buffalo and decided I visit one of my favorites from the past. Welp today was busy but not very busy , my group was seated at 8:45 am, and then we placed our order at 8:55am. By time we were on our third refill of coffee it was 9:40am and still our food was not served. At 9:45am the server told us "we have veterans here today and it is a big party so your food will come shortly". Other tables and parties were done eating and received there meals. I wish they would've informed us of the big party, so that we can let them take care of them and go somewhere else. I walked to the register and request a check for three coffees and they made me pay for the coffee and they tossed my bank card on the counter. I asked for the server to hand me my bank card and I mentioned how unprofessional everything was. The manger was standing right next to us and did not try to accommodate us or apologize. Went here the other day with my dad for brunch. He's been here before with family and they raved over the pancakes and omelettes. The decor is extremely out of date, but the place is ran pretty efficiently even around busier times like when we were there. All the tables were promptly cleaned and ready for the next guests. Definitely a plus as some diners have crummy, coffee stained tables when you're seated and that's just gross. Our server wasn't overly friendly, but she did her job well. Food took some time to arrive, but that's almost expected when the place is busy and food is actually made fresh. We each ordered an omelette which came with 3 pancakes, and bacon on the side (4 pieces). Food was fantastic. The portions were huge! We can both eat, and still had to take half our omelettes home! The omelette had the perfect amount of cheese and the pancakes were SO GOOD. They came with whipped cream and some delicious blueberry syrup. The homefries were not well done enough for me, but I imagine they'd be fine for someone else. You can never go wrong coming to the Original Pancake House for breakfast foods. Don't pass it up just because it's a chain restaurant. Unlike other chains, they do not litter every block and are far apart. I've been coming to OPH regularly for the last 10 years or so and have yet to find something that I do not like. I've been to this particular establishment twice and left with a full belly and a smile on my face each time. They have small booths for couples and large booths for parties of 5-6 as well. The omlets are large enough that you can share with another friend and still leave satisfied. I had their ham omlet + a side of pancakes and was full for the remainder of the day. My go to food here is the Sweedish pancakes, but their waffles, pan cakes, omlets, are all very delicious. The staff is very friendly, always made sure our coffees were refilled in a timely manner. Restaurant decor matches most of the other OPHs. Very clean and brightly lit. I recommend coming with a group of friends and having it family style so everyone can try a little of everything. read more

I love this place. During my first few years in Buffalo my husband (then boyfriend!) would take me here every year on my birthday to celebrate. And oh celebrate we did. We moved out of Amherst and stopped our yearly tradition. I visited again this past weekend with a girlfriend for a breakfast bonanza before our New Year's resolutions started. We went around noon so it wasn't too busy. I ordered one of the enormous omelets and my pal got peanut butter waffles. Both selections were impeccable. This place might be pricey for breakfast, but it is worth it. The omelets are as big as my face. The waffles are perfect. Endless coffee. Fresh squeezed OJ. This place is a definite time warp, harkening back to the coffee shop era of the 60's through the 80s, a time when places like Denny's were quality places. The decor is probably early '80s, but I really liked the dated look. It reminded me of when I was a kid, and we used to go to a coffee shop type restaurant in California called The Coffee Tree. It was one of those places we used to go to when we'd go on a vacation, and so the happy memories of that place came to mind when I was here. Lee had their specialty, the Dutch Baby, which is what I had when we were at the Williamsville location. I had apple waffles. The Dutch Baby takes extra time to make, but it is delicious, basically like a gigantic popover or a sweet Yorkshire pudding. My apple waffles weren't too bad, they had a bit less apple baked into them than I'd hoped for, but the sweet apple syrup was pretty delicious. We both ordered sides of bacon to cut the sweetness, and they have decent bacon, nice and thick. Overall it's a good breakfast, albeit a little more than normal with adding sides, and a little bit on the overly sweet side. Service was pretty good, although a little slow sometimes on coffee refills. Because of the size, I would probably go to this one over the one in Williamsville. read more

SERVICE Service was decent, the hostess was very pleasant and seated us as quickly as possible. Our waitress was just 'okay', not very friendly but proficient. FOOD This is where they lost me completely. I ordered well done sausage, scrambled eggs with cheese, home fries with the pancakes. The pancakes were great. Eggs were runny, no flavor and didn't include the cheese, home fries were obviously old and were so dry I sent them back, sausage was under-cooked and left uneaten. It was a very bad day for me at OPH. COST The pricing at this place is normal and in line with a breakfast place, but with my unhappiness with my meal it rubbed me that everything was so poorly made. AMBIANCE I prefer this location to the one on Main street because it feels 'cozier', but after Sunday's meal we may be changing those thoughts. read more

Ok...I LOVE the pancake house on Main Street and was certainly expecting a similar experience at this one. I mainly go for the pancakes as I love them a little sweeter and not as cakey... I had the ones at this location...and was disappointed. Not sure if they were made on a grill where other food was cooked prior, or what...but they had a funny taste...and I ate 2 of them thinking maybe only one of them was funny,..but no such luck. Also someone at my table ordered a bagel and cream cheese...I was very surprised that they had the nerve to send out one of those small frozen, Lender's bagels..not even the big, regular size, but the smaller version. $3.50??? Traveling through the area and stopped in for breakfast around 8:30am with my man friend. We seemed to beat the Saturday morning rush. Strange ambience, but I was excited about the classic diner appeal. The food: I ordered a bacon omelette with cheddar cheese and broccoli added in with a side of the pancakes. My partner ordered two eggs over medium, bacon, and home fries. Pros: -Consistent coffee refills -The bacon omelette was enormous & fluffy like it was baked. I added in broccoli and cheddar cheese and it was very good. However, why did this omelette have to be so big & expensive?! My partner & I were waging bets on how many eggs were used. We settled on about 6. -The pancakes were solid. -We ended up with a lot of food for what we ordered. -Service was for the most part consistent and friendly Cons: -The menu simply did not make sense to either of us. Cheese was not included in the omelette price - it was an expensive add on. In fact, all the standard breakfast add-ons seemed exorbitantly expensive. My partner wanted a classic breakfast of bacon, eggs, and potatoes and all items had to be ordered a la carte, which added up when sides of bacon are ~$4.50, potatoes over $3, etc. The menu made it difficult to order efficiently and economically. -Beverage glass sizes were incredibly strange & small. -Food took awhile to come out. The bacon came out 10 minutes later than everything else. -My partner was not a fan of the bacon. Crispy, but bland in flavor. -The home fries were soggy and grainy. We were excited for crispy, hot potatoes. I spied several orders coming out of the kitchen that looked intriguing - giant cake-like towers, presumably varieties of pancakes for which this place is known. I wish I had been more into ordering pancakes - we may have been more satisfied. Bottom line is order an omelette and split it with a friend. If I'm ever in the area again, I may want to order some pancakes and update this review. But honestly, I would prefer to eat at IHOP. read more

I love the Original Pancake House usually, but this location greatly disappointed me. I ordered the Vegetable Omelet, which has mushrooms in it. When I asked the waitress if I could get it without mushrooms, she told me that the omelet mixes were pre-made. What?! This was upsetting, but whatever, I'll pick them out. If you like thick cut bacon and crazy pancakes - this place is for you. My standard is the bacon and basted eggs (which you can get any way you want) and I always substitute the peanut butter pancakes in place of the buttermilk pancakes (it's only .75 to do this). If peanut butter isn't your thing, they have like 20 other varieties too. The bacon here is pretty crazy. It's the thickest cut bacon I have ever seen and it comes out in perfect straight lines. I am not sure what their secret is, but even when I cook bacon in the oven I can't get it this perfect. They give you 4 slices with your order and they are giant. The peanut butter pancakes come with sweet peanut butter chips inside and are served with a strawberry syrup. It sounds like a weird combination but it's actually super good. I was here today with a group of friends. We were impressed with the menu selection and how clean the place was. The servers were very nice but the service was SOOOOOOO. Some of the food was very good and some not so much. Everyone's eggs were seriously over cooked to the point we didn't eat them. Eggs Benney should have a runny poached egg not over hard fried. Had an awful experience here for breakfast. We were sat right away, and the young woman who sat us grabbed a beverage order from the two of us. After she brought our two coffees and fresh squeezed orange juice we were told that our waitress would be right over. 5 minutes pass... No waitress 10 minutes... No waitress 15 minutes... No waitress, empty coffee cups. Finally, after waiting around for 20 MINUTES, my husband and I got up, paid for our drinks at the front counter and left. Our server never came to the table, not even to introduce themselves. Waiting 20 minutes plus for your server to introduce them selves is absolutely UNACCEPTABLE. Whoever our server was, she should be out of a job. I don't care how good your coffee is, no one in their right mind should wait that long. 2 stars for good coffee, awful service and over priced diner food. read more

There are so many good local places in Buffalo that its hard to go wrong. The food is decent, anything with fruit is usually fresh. Pretty quick service, but the atmosphere is lacking a little bit since I always feel rushed to leave. Portion sizes are reasonable but don't expect to be stuffed for $10. Pancakes are rather small in comparison to other places but then again, maybe that's just portion inflation that's leading to the fattening of America.
