Update 10/13/15 - They're still awesome, of course. My teenage boy and I always leave the table stuffed. Knowing that we just stuffed ourselves with fresh, high quality food is also very important to me and I know I get that at Osaka. It is, hands down, the best sushi I've ever had. The staff is very friendly, the presentations are attractive (some even beautiful), and the prices are reasonable. I know my selections will be fresh, prepared properly and that the flavors will be on point. As other reviewers have noted, the exterior isn't notable. It's tucked away from the street in a strip mall in a corner unit, it's not spalshy in the least. I don't find this an issue since I use the internet to find restaurants, and that's exactly how I found Osaka Sushi. Seating is a little close, but it's a small establishment. It's very clean, which is a big deal for me, and ups the appeal (and my likelihood to recommend it to others) quite a bit. I place a lot of importance on cleanliness. If the dining room is sparkling, chances are the kitchen(s) are, as well. Sushi lovers, I believe, will not be disappointed with their visit to Osaka Sushi. ***Update 3/9/16*** We've tried 3 sushi places in Colorado Springs since moving back last month. I love sushi and eat it whenever possible. My son as I came to Osaka for lunch. He ordered the all you can eat for $15.95. It was ok. But very small pieces of fish and huge Amounts of rice. I ordered the Denver roll. It was bland. I also ordered scallop Sushi which was good but also heavy on the rice. I won't be coming back. Bonsai is much better. read more

Decided to try Osaka out only because it was the closest sushi to the Poke place I was originally trying to go to but they were closed. Came here on a Monday night expecting a average/quite dining experience but it was pretty loud since they had the football game on and customers as well as employees were yelling. Besides that I sat at the bar, which is either way to low or the chairs are to high. Extremely uncomfortable. As for the sushi, it was okay. I order two rolls (which neither of them on the menu mentioned they were cooked or served warm) it was quite strange. But not terrible, would have preferred cold. Last but not least I think it's weird & unprofessional to have pictures of naked playboys signed on the wall. Not really a good family dining place. The one positive was the service seemed fast and friendly. read more

I absolutely love this place. I've eaten at a multitude of sushi restaurants and this is in my pick of Top 2 (the other being Hapa, but Hapa is slightly more expensive). The price/quality ratio at Osaka is the best I've found so far. It's semi-pricey (I'm in college) but when I get to go out to a nice dinner this is where I usually go. It's one of those places where you could dress up and take a date, or you could wear jeans and a t-shirt with some friends. The wait staff is good and the atmosphere is relaxing. Bring a light jacket however, certain areas of the restaurant are kind of chilly. My favorite 2 things off the menu are the TNT appetizer and the Ultimate Osaka Roll, however I've enjoyed everything I've had here. The drinks are great and the geisha dessert is delicious. If you enjoy sushi or japanese food in general I highly recommend Osaka. read more

We were pleasantly surprised. The food was amazing, and the rolls had flavors that were so different than anything we've had before. The service was very friendly and efficient. The prices were a little high, but worth it when you taste the quality. The atmosphere is a little dated, and could use a refresh, but the food more than makes up for it. Colorado has no good AYCE sushi. AT ALL. After living in the NJ/NYC area, I'm accustomed to decent AYCE sushi. This is one of the worst by far. The AYCE sushi places I've tried are sushi ring, sushi bay, osaka sushi, and sushi katsu. If all I wanted was cheap sushi rice for a meal, anyone can make that by googling a recipe and making it yourself. I've looked over at other people's tables. Regular menu items seem decent. They honestly shouldn't even offer AYCE if they're going to charge so much for serving only sushi rice. But since they do, I get to slap them with a well-deserved 1/5 star rating. read more

This is the most fun and friendly sushi place in town -- the lunch buffet is insanely good; the rolls (our favorites are Avalanche and Mega Lotto) are heavenly! Jay and his staff are warm and welcoming -- the sake bombs and nuclear rolls are part of our family legend -- we are grateful for many special occasions celebrated here with family and friends! We post this review because we certainly want to be supportive, but we hesitate -- so far, we've never had to wait more than two minutes for a table, which makes Osaka even dearer to our hearts! I have eaten here several times for dinner and they are a little more expensive. I decided to try the advertised all you can eat lunch. If you are coming for sushi not the best menu, just a few rolls to choose from and the nigiri is all rice again with little options. I prefer Sushi Katsu for the all you can eat experience. read more

We wanted to try a new sushi place - after reading all the great reviews we decided to go. Staff is very nice, but food quality was poor. Salmon wasn't fresh tasting. Caterpillar roll had mostly filler, not much eel at all. Truly the worst part of the dining experience was our hair & clothes smelled like bad fried food. Osaka is our favorite sushi spot!!~ we usually come every week if our times match. The service is great! They're very attentive and helpful. They are also super friendly. We usually get the super bowl which is basically different pieces of fish, Korean hot paste, rice, and a mix of greens. It's filling and good for sharing because it's pretty big. The seafood udon is really good too. It's spicy but not too spicy that makes you not enjoy it. The noodles are thick and chewy but not too chewy. It's hard to explain. Just in general the noodles are good. There's pieces of scallops that my friend loves and would eat all of them when we're sharing. The sushi and rolls are good here too! The specialty rolls are good and you know they're good because you know they aren't good for you. It's a bit pricey, but the price fits the quality. read more

Osaka is unpretentious and uncomplicated. Back in day, I used to wait tables at a restaurant where the entire sushi staff had trained at Osaka. They all went on and on about it, so I finally gave it a try. It's one of my top choices for sushi now. I love their spider rolls in particular. You know when you go someplace and they cut the individual pieces of the roll so thick that you think you're going to start gagging? Well they do it just right here. It doesn't have a "sexy" atmosphere, so it's not necessarily a date spot. You'll see a lot of families eating here too, so if that bothers you, plan on sticking with your trendier spots around town. But if you're in it for the sushi, I highly recommend Osaka. read more

yummy... the good 'sushi feeling' was with me for hours afterward. in my inquiries, I heard, "cheaper", "just as good", and "not as crowded" as Sushi Den. and it definitely wasn't as crowded. this is a place for sushi. the fish is at the forefront; the servers have no knowledge of mixology. there is only enough booze to meet the requirements (J.D., K1, Beefeater, Bacardi, and a few others is all that was offered). the winelist meets the requirements. there is good sake here. none of that matters, though. speaking of sake, there are sake boxes, stacked like kid-blocks, on the shelves behind the sushi bar. for $5, you can buy your own and personalize it with your own style. it is like a painting of the neighborhood's colors. very charming; I now have my own box perched on the shelf, as well. now let's talk about the fish. the samurai chefs behind the counter embodied the blend of tradition and personal artistic expression that I love. the sushi rice holds like it should (something that many popular joints lack), and the plates were tasty and beautiful. I didn't find the unique fish that only Sushi Den offers and the chefs didn't express the confidence and mastery of the samurais at the Den. however, there was fresh wasabi grated on my plate. and there was definite authenticity everywhere. I had a great time and will be back many times in the future. Osaka is a gem. I love finding a great place in a strip mall. read more

My first review and Was compelled to write about Osaka. This place was incredible. Great sushi, excellent service. With some neighborhood joints you have to sacrifice a little with quality, but this place has all the perks of your fav neighborhood joint with awesome food. The owner is fantastic! Between hosting and seating, he's holding babies, making sake bombs for the entire place and placing orders. I'd come back just because of him, but the sushi happens to be awesome as well. Yay for Yelp pointing me to this place. Always go by and never been in. They had an inside, a covered patio and an outside patio to suit any indoor outdoor need. Sushi was outstanding, i liked it better than hapas. Large portions at reasonable prices for good sushi. The caterpillar rolls were the best i've had and the Unagi (my favorite) was on par with the best i've had in Denver at Sonodas. I used to live just a few blocks from Osaka, so I've dined there multiple times. Every single time I've been there it has been consistently fabulous! The staff & the service deserve an A+! One of my favorite cuts of sushi is Spanish Mackerel. EVERY time I've been to Osaka the Spanish Mackerel has been outstanding. Not to take away from the rest of the menu, every cut of fish & every roll I have put in my mouth at this restaurant has been ridiculously good tasting. Yum yum yum yum. I was sincerely surprised at the quality of the nigiri. It looks like a small, out of the way place - and it is. Family run, everyone was very pleasant and attentive. The ambience was great - very clean and plenty of seats at the sushi bar. But, really, I came for the fish and it was really really good. I had fatty tuna, salmon and yellowtail and they were all fresh, melt in the mouth delightful. I also had seaweed salad, which was well portioned and delicious, and a Rainbow Roll which was well rolled and also delightful. They do have soy wrappers you can substitute for seaweed wrappers, which is a must for me on rolls. Can't say enough about the quality of the fish - will be back soon! read more

If you've never ordered Omikase, I highly recommend doing it here. In case you don't know what Omikase is, it is a Japanese phrase that means "It's up to you", meaning you let the chef choose your meal and that usually translates into the freshest and best tasting combinations you would've never ordered yourself. I've done it twice at Osaka and both times I was blown away. They have two price ranges, $80 and $100 and you can split one order (and still have more than enough to eat). My last meal, for example, started with this delicious salad of squid, shrimp, tamago, crab, and salmon over seaweed with a miso dressing. Then the chef presented us with 3 pieces of simple sushi (yellowtail, salmon and the third escapes me), followed by plates of sashimi, and then 2 fancy rolls- one of which was a dragon and the other I again forget. Finally we were given bowls of udon which was a little strange but still, if we had been starving upon arrival, would've been more then enough to end the day. Though the chef didn't speak much English, it really didn't matter, because the ridiculous grins on the faces of myself and my dining companion pretty much said it all. This is one of my favorite sushi restaurants in Denver! I eat here about once a month and have never been disappointed. I usually order Gyoza and the green mussels to start, I don't know what it is about their mussels but they're my favorite out of everywhere I've tried. My favorite rolls are the climax roll and mega lotto, I've tried almost all of the specialty rolls but I keep coming back to those two. The service is always good and I've never had a problem getting a table, even on valentines when everyone else was booked up. It might not be the fanciest looking place but the food is excellent. read more

I travel to the Cherry Creek area for work almost every week and I eat sushi at least once every trip I make. I have tried several of the other sushi spots around here and this is absolutely the best. This place honestly gives my Houston sushi spot a run for its money. I had the seared tuna sushi - THE BEST I have ever had, hands down no hesitation. Philadelphia Roll - some places in Denver seem to put cucumber in philly rolls and exclude the avocado and that is so wrong, Osaka does it right. Salmon, cream cheese and avocado. Ichiban - OMG. I had them add cream cheese (which can sometimes be confusing but these guys totally got me) and it reminds me of the first roll I ever fell in love with. Amazing. I cannot believe this place is landlocked. Osaka has an atmosphere that I love. I feel completely comfortable going in alone and enjoying a nice relaxing dinner but they have plenty of space for large groups. It seems to be family or personally owned, I felt like everyone that worked there cared. The service is fantastic (this was my second time visiting - they were extremely busy my first time) and the guys behind the sushi bar were fun to chat with. It really reminds me of my go-to sushi spot at home and that's why I'll be visiting Osaka every time I crave sushi in Denver. read more

Don't get the sushi take-out. I asked for brown rice. There were little tight brown rice "balls"? (I want to say "turds") under tiny pieces of fish. Still the fish was twice as long as the little rice balls. And the rice was hard. Not sure if it was an off night for them, but I won't try it again. read more

How does this place get such great ratings?!?!? The rolls have hardly any sushi associated with them. The ingredients are ok. Pretty sure the Edamame was nuked in the microwave. If the rolls were $7-8 I would somewhat understand, but the rolls over $10-$14. So many other places with way better quality food and atmosphere for the same price. And atmosphere... the food was 2 star, the atmosphere brought it down to 1. COME ON YELPERS!!! This is not a 4 star place!!! read more

The only reason I come to Denver Colorado is to eat at the sushi place I love the sushi it's a phenomenal every time I am such a sushi snob I've been all over the world and have had sushi nothing beats the sushi place the rolls are always fresh if you want to be healthy and clean they have amazing rolls that are healthy! I've been going to Osaka for ~10 years now & have yet to have a poor experience. Their seafood is always fresh & delicious. Servers are always attentive & kind. All of their special rolls make me super happy (especially the play boy & play girl) & their agedashi tofu is still the BEST I have ever tried... and trust me, I've been on the hunt for years! Osaka is our favorite sushi place in Denver currently. Have been in Denver for 10 years and tried most all sushi options. I place value on quality of food and service. The food here is solid. Highly recommend the tempura calamari roll and the Colorado roll. The number one thing this place has going for it is the Service and the owner Jay. It is like the Cheers of Sushi as they are friendly and very supportive of our drinking habits. If you are lucky, on a Friday or Saturday night, Jay will perform the craziest sake bomb domino maneuver you have ever seen! -5 Stars for Osaka! read more
