Tonight I finally visited this place after years of meaning to. I walked in and it was busy, a little loud, but had a great vibe. The staff was very friendly. I was going to eat in at the bar solo, but it was so crowded I decided to get it to go. Sauce from the roll soaked into the rice of the sushi. The sushi itself was pretty good, but the portions were the smallest I've ever seen. I actually don't mind them being small, but the price should match. Yummy Yummy. First off... I'll never understand how a land locked city like Denver has so many sushi places. I just don't get it. Surprisingly, some of them are actually pretty good - this being one of them. From the outside it looks kind of shady... like... oh this is not going to be good... but then it is. Fresh fish. I always get yellowtail sashimi when I go for sushi and this was pretty good... not the best... but relatively fresh tasting. The husbeast and I were looking for a spot close to our house other than Sushi Go! and I think we found it. Tucked away off Colorado by paradise cleaners is this great sushi spot. They greeted us quickly and sat us quickly. I didn't have a chance to talk to the staff but I am assuming it was a family affair. They have a pretty extensive menu whether you want hot plates or sushi. We went with some sushi ala American ;) with miso, seaweed salad, rainbow roll, yellowtail handroll, and a playboy roll. They were all pretty good except there was a little too much sauce on the playboy. My one wish at every sushi place is that they would offer real wasabi. I would pay extra for sure. First time in Denver and we were craving some sushi. Our hotel was right down the street in cherry creek so we decided to take the 5 minute walk. Eye appeal from the street isn't going to get you to walk through the door, but the food will keep you coming back. We had a fantastic experience here. From the start we were greeted warmly and with a smile. We sat at the sushi bar and the sushi chefs were quick to say hello. We decided to order a Cupid roll, a Avalanche roll, fresh oysters, red snapper (both) sushi and sashimi, and wahu sushi. In addition, we ended up having a couple bottles of Nigori Sake which was fantastic. The food here was served quickly and it was all delicious. Our favorites of the night were the red snapper sashimi and the fresh oysters. Both very fresh and large portions too! The rolls were creative and the presentation was flawless. I enjoyed it here and if I'm ever in Cherry Creek again I'd have no issue stopping in for a second go around. read more

For some strange reason, I am always nervous about trying new sushi places. Luckily, my nerves were calmed after we tried Osaka Sushi. On the way home from work, we randomly decided we wanted sushi for dinner and wanted to try something close to home as opposed to my typical place close to my office. My boyfriend found Osaka and we checked out the menu. After a lot of deliberation (there's a lot of delicious looking rolls), we decided on: California roll, Ichiban roll, Mega Lotto roll, Shrimp Tempura roll and the Avalanche roll. I called to place the order and I had to repeat the order a few times to make sure it was right, but it sounded like it was a busy evening, so understood that the gentleman on the phone might have been multitasking. He said it would be ready in about twenty minutes, so we headed that way a few minutes later to make sure we could find the place. It is definitely a bit tucked away in the back of a shopping center (doesn't look exactly like where I would expect a sushi place to be) but don't let the location stop you from visiting. The place was well decorated inside and was busy when we arrived around 6:30 on a Thursday evening. Our sushi was packaged in two separate containers and came with plenty of ginger and wasabi. The also packaged the soy in a smart way, wrapping the containers tight in plastic wrap so it wouldn't leak. Since we were taking it home in the car, we appreciated that. Everything smelled delicious, especially in the confines of a vehicle. It took a bit of willpower not to dig in on the ride home. Once home, I started with the Cali roll which was delicious and well-balanced. The Mega Lotto roll was unique and I loved the dynamite on top - overall, that was both of our favorite roll. The Shrimp Tempura was simple but very tasty. Personally, I found the Ichiban roll to be a bit spicy (I was worried about it when ordering - I'm a huge wuss when it comes to spice), but my boyfriend loved it and said the spice wasn't overwhelming. The Avalanche roll had a myriad of great flavors and was probably my second favorite of them all. I'm happy we found a sushi place close to home that has a great selection. Although the location isn't what I expected, we will definitely be coming back here for sushi due to the quality and the ease of ordering. Best sushi in Denver! Every specialty roll I've tried is so delicious and full of flavor! One of my favorite things about their rolls is they don't overdo it on the rice. You're really filling up on the yummy, high-quality ingredients! Today, I got the volcano roll, avalanche roll, and the gyoza. What a great way to end the week!! Every bite was incredible and I am so satisfied! Highly recommend this place! I ordered an order of yellowtail sashimi (4 pieces at $11.95) and an Oder of salmon sashimi (4 pieces at $11.90). The yellowtail was cut much thicker, as it should be for sashimi. The salmon was paper thin. Needless to say I was very disappointed. I mentioned my concern to the proprietor, who said they cut the yellowtail too thick. Wrong answer. This restaurant is now off of my list as the portion was not appropriate for the price, nor the service acceptable. The waitress was either in the back of the house or doing side work on the floor; not paying attention to her customers. Good-bye, Osaka. I have been to a few different sushi places around town but I keep coming back to Osaka. I have never had a bad experience here. The quality of the fish is excellent and it's often melt-in-your-mouth fresh. Our usual order includes a combination of salmon, tuna, yellow tail sushi and/or sashimi, spicy tuna rolls, and a couple of the specialty rolls. Our current faves are the Denver, Playgirl, and Rainbow rolls. You also can't go wrong with the daily fresh selections. This past weekend we had some heavenly halibut and we don't pass up the white tuna if they have it. The top-notch miso soup is a great way to start your meal. The service has greatly improved over the years, especially after the current owners took over. The owner (Jay) and his wife and their employees are friendly and welcoming. Sometimes on weekend nights, Jay will make a sake bomb for the entire restaurant - what fun! If you can live with the dated and mismatched décor, you will love this cozy neighborhood gem. Excellent and authentic sushi restaurant. I have spent a lot of time in Japan, and Osaka just took me right back. The head sushi chef is born and raised in Japan and still has family there. He gets fish from multiple places depending on the fish, and some things from the Tokyo fish market and another good market in the north of Japan. He is very good at his job and always lets us know which fish is freshest. I really like their rolls also, and they have a lot of cooked roll options which can be good for some people. Their tempura is excellent which is a primary component of their rolls. This is def one of my go to sushi places when I'm in need of a quick meal. The owner is pretty much always there and he's super fun and personable. On the weekend nights, you can find him taking shots of Japanese whisky with the patrons and lining the whole sushi bar with sake bombs. Super fun! read more

We went to go eat all you can eat buffet at Osaka but unfortunately were not aware this was an "all you can eat rice" buffet. Even the servers were warning us that their sushi was "a lot of rice and very little fish". What kind of sushi restaurant tells you that.. my sushi looked like a 300 pound man wearing a child's backpack. Also the rice didn't even taste good!!! Been here about twice, with a large gap inbetween each visit. First time we ordered a couple rolls and it was delicious. Unfortunately, I cant remember what we ordered. Second time I got a lunch special. It was the grilled teriyaki salmon bento box. Sad to say I was kind of disappointed. The grilled salmon was delicious. Super soft and fell right off the skin. Really cooked well. The salad wirh the ginger dressing was fine, just like any other place. But my boyfriend complained the ginger sauce was too garlic-y for him. I couldnt taste it. The miso soup was also good, but only got 2 tofu cubes in it. The box came with 2 salmon nigiri pieces, 2 tuna nigiri pieces, and four california roll pieces. I really disliked the california roll. It was mushy and i could barely taste the crab. Pretty much tasted cucumber and mushed rice. The nigiri was alright. I personally like my fish to be soft and you can barely "feel the bite." Meaning when you bite into the fish, it kind of just falls apart, rather than feeling it being cut up in your mouth. Not sure if that makes sense but the fish was definitely not as soft as I usually like it. But the cuts were really thick so maybe that's why it didnt melt in your mouth. read more

Definitely recommend the Samurai Bento. Came with soup, salad, 2 pc cali roll, shrimp & veggie tempura and korean short ribs. I had it to go and the tempura was still light & crispy in the box and the short ribs were delish w/perfect grill marks. To be honest, we weren't sure about this place when we first pulled up... But we should've remembered to never judge a book by its cover!! Started off our meal with gyoza and weren't disappointed! Some of the best dumplings I've ever had and they came out of the kitchen fast, which was an indicator that the service would continue to be top notch (which it was!!). We then ordered two rolls: Avalanche and Spicy Crunchy. The Avalanche had a lot going on, but was warm, fried, and filling. The Spicy Crunchy was like a spicy tuna roll 2.0 and I'd highly recommend both. Saw another reviewer telling people to try the Nuclear Roll, but we very quickly ruled that out as the description said "very very very very very spicy" :) If we ever come back to this part of town, we'll definitely be back to sample some more sushi rolls! read more

This is a great little hidden gem in Denver off of Colorado Blvd. The sushi is priced about the same as anywhere, but they gave a sushi bar, inside dining, sunroom, and an outside patio. First of all, I might be biased because I used to work there. However, I have seen how this restaurant operates inside and out. With that being said, this place is excellent. I go to Hapa to grab some rolls, and really, Sushi Den is probably the best sushi restaurant in town. But sometimes I want really good sushi AND rolls. That's when I got Osaka. Usually, you don't want to go back to where you used to work, but the quality and care that the chefs use to prepare the sushi was incredible. Korosan, the head sushi chef, prepares the tamago everyday by hand. He makes sure the quality of the fish is excellent every shipment. The owners make sure that the atmosphere is professional and fun. This is a family own restaurant, so there are a bit of ups and downs when it comes to service, but I would come back to this restaurant to eat anytime. Oh also try the super bowl. Best bang for your buck, and the fish pieces are amazing. read more

I was not impressed with the hamachi (yellowtail) which is why I'm deducting a star. Quality didn't taste great to me; I've had with yellowtail around town and have really only found two sushi places that serve high quality. My neighborhood go-to sushi place. These guys been around for awhile. It's not your go to be "seen" type sushi bar but it's no dumper either. Ambiance is low key and nice and just very comfortable. Never rushed which I appreciate. It's where you head to for your consistent no-nonsense sushi place that serves high quality sushi staples and FABULOUS rolls. Reasonable without the price gouge. One of my new favorite is the Avalanche Roll. Quality is very high, clean and wait staff, sushi chefs and owner are always appreciative. My fav waitress is Mary. No parking headache a huge plus. It's probably one of the best kept secret (sharks and I'm sharing!) for the Cherry Creek/Belcaro/Corey Merrill crowd. Best kept secret in town. Hard working folks who've run this place for several years-they fly their fish from Hawaii DAILY! The fish is fresh, cuts are good sized and not skimpy, the tempura is exactly how I imagine tempura to taste, and service is friendly. The value is unbeatable for good quality food.
