Came here with family for a weekday brunch. I got the Hudson omelette with a cappuccino, and I absolutely loved the mashed potato side. It's less greasy than the typical home fries from the diner. The omelette itself was also fluffy, just the right amount of salt, and full of cheese, ham and tomato. My cappuccino was a bit bolder than I would have liked, but with good foam. This place wasn't crowded at 3:00 and we were able to eat outside right away. Boddington's was available to the delight of the with accompanying me. Having the chance to order a Full English for an ex-Pat is an opportunity that cannot be wasted. Beans seemed legit and the bacon was good. I am so delighted by this place! I was skeptical about ordering the mussels here because British cuisine and seafood don't sound like an obvious match to me, but they were the BEST mussels I've ever had in New York! Better than so many "seafood focused" restaurants. Everything we ordered was so good and so fresh. I really like this place due to its cozy , West Village appeal. First off , if you don't like small , tight areas then go elsewhere ( although I think this is part of the charm ). I've been here twice for brunch and both times it was great ! Very good service too . The menu is perfect offering many brunch choices such as a multitude of Benedict's and English breakfasts . Always amazing food from basically a hole in the wall- everything on point and I want the recipe for the crabmeat omelette.

I was really craving fish and chips, and kinda tired of the same old places in the city. It was a gamble and I won in the end. Oscar's was a cozy place that really could only fit a few but you didn't feel to crowded and you could enjoy the aromas of everyone's foods. Oscars Place is phenomenal!! One of my favorite stops when visiting NYC. It's a traditional British type of cafe. Went right when they opened for breakfast/ brunch and it started my day off perfectly! Oscar himself took our orders and is quite personable and a delight. An intimate corner location with a cozy British slant, Oscar's features a selection of breakfast options styled after the local morning traditions from across the pond. The place is small, but they take reservations, though the largest party they can sit is 5-6 people at the corner table in the back left corner of this space. There are two tables for 4, and another 2-3 tables for 2. On a sunny day they have outdoor sidewalk seating under red umbrellas enough for 10-12 people. These are set up as tables for two. Inside, the kitchen is basically right behind a bar area on the back right, and it's fun to watch the chef prep and cook. I highly recommend the English breakfast ($17), which is a hearty combination of two eggs, bacon, sausages, toast, grilled mushrooms and tomatoes, stewed beans and the mash of the day. I ordered the Arundel omelette ($14.75) which had bacon, onions, mushroom and spinach and came served with a side salad and mash. A second and third friend ordered the Eggs Cocotte ($15) and English breakfast omelette ($15.50) which both came with mash and side salads also. Service was courteous and quick, and we left very satisfied with our experience. So thrilled to have found this place while in NY. If you are looking for a great spot to have a nice delicious meal then come to Oscar's Place. The atmosphere is warm and inviting due in large part to Neil. He and his team are great hosts and make sure you feel like a guest in their home whilst there. You can find a traditional English style breakfast here with the tradition Irish back bacon and myers pork sausage links. This was the main attraction for me since it's quite hard to find this in Seattle. My wife had the fried chicken and waffles which were also very delicious and come with a side of chips (French Fries). It's a short walk from here to the Christopher St-Sheridan Sq station where you can catch the 1 train to explore lower Manhattan if you'd like. read more

English breakfast rocked. Once known as Petite Abeille, Neal the then part owner took over the space and renamed it after his young son Oscar. I've been going to this former Petite location for well over 20 years and as of recent I've noticed that my favorite Petite wasn't sustaining its former greatness. Much worse in fact. This time around I decided to give Petitie one last try when to my dismay I saw Oscar's Place painted on the glass front. We decided to try it and we were glad that we did. Upon entering little had changed from its former life--except for the missing Tin Tin books--and we were greeted by familiar faces. We inquired as to what happened and we were told the story of Neal's takeover. I was excited because to me Neal was Petite Abeille of Hudson and Grove. No other location ever captured our interest and we've visited them all. The menu has undergone a transformation from Belgian fare to British. Some familiar items included waffles and mussels. There were others but under different names. Gone from the menu is Natalie's spicy tuna. Enter David's spicy tuna. Who is David? Who was Natalie? Who is John Galt? I had the fantastic English breakfast. Think Irish breakfast sans those disgusting blood sausages. Everything was served with a serving or two of Amy's Bread. I came for fish and chips and that's what I got. $19 for one of the greatest fish and chips I've had in a long time. Neil the owner was very welcoming and inventing to his place, Oscar's which is named after his NY born son. His British accent fit the bill with the awesome dining experience. It's a small cozy place where it seems he has a bunch of regulars come in to enjoy the British cuisine. The menu was filled with other entrées that looked very appetizing. There was a chicken pot pie that sounded delicious as well as the bangers and mash. I will be coming back to try some more. It will be hard not to order the fish and chips though. Since I know how great they were I will have to bring someone to try the fish and chips so I could order something else and pick off their plate. Lol they also serve breakfast. Food: I ordered the Croque Tuna Melt which came with salad and fries. Meal was good, not greasy, and portion was generous. Service: Friendly, but not very attentive. You have to constantly track down the servers for anything you need, i.e. refills, ketchup, etc. And, they overcharged our ticket twice. After pointing it out to the server, we were overcharged again the second time by $5 more than the first overage. Again, it took forever to track him down to fix this. Atmosphere: Very crowded with less than 10 tables in the entire place. Lively and warm atmosphere. About a 20 minute wait for a table [around 1:30 for Sunday brunch]. I wish there were more customers. Even if their food may need a little flavoring, it also needs so love too. One thing, I wish they had black pudding and Yorkshire pudding. Waking a morning after too cold of rain, we wanted to get out and play in the world. Boy did we not know what good we were in for. Suckers for an Eater NY list, this spot came up on their "21 West Village places to try". About seven places in so far, when debating sunday brunch we decided to stroll by #18, Oscars Place. Chilly in fall coats, we checked out the street side menu. BAM! Kos eyes light up. Listed, a Vegetarian Croque. The Croque and more-so the Croque madame was always a jealous-sandwich the non-meat eater wanted. Oh the feelings of being left out of the party, someone who loves cheese and bread and eggs. Hurt like a seventh grader that didn't eat at the popular lunch table. Hurt no more. Oscars Place was going to serve Kos a Croque with spinach, tomato, gruyere and an egg on top, Madame. Total buy-in on the street. We ordered a pot of tea and Tello debated a sweet vs savory start to the morning. Back and forth he'd say "waffles or wake up eggs?" "Oatmeal or omelette?" Decided on the oatmeal with honey and a purist waffle, when the waiter squeezed over to our tiny corner he said "eggs Benedict with the daily mash." Well ok. As we waited we noticed the small space and tight corners. Pots and pans hanging above our heads. Cases of beer stacked by the door. Open kitchen. So small, Kos used the bathroom and they had to close the dishwasher to let her through. No back room. So small Tello overheard a city adolescent rue between sister and brother. "God, I hate you." Brother said, instead of helping his father decide where they would spend a likely privileged spring break. The food arrives and we are mostly quiet between our exchanges of "that looks good." "This is so good." "Have some of my fries." "What's in that mash?" The eggs cut just like they should. The bread was Amy's we think. Bread crusty and soft just as it should be. Both came with a salad that was simply dressed. No complaints. So happy to have this place in our rotation, in our neighborhood, in our memory. Who knows what was in that daily mash potato... I remember this place before it was Oscar's place but first time here today for lunch and have to say had the most delicious mushroom soup, so fresh and hot, followed by I would say the best fish and chips I've had for a long long time! The batter was crisp and it was a great piece of fish with proper chips and tarter sauce, I go out to Long Island a lot and go to seafood places but this was so good, the owner Neil was a great host and it seems to have quite a few regulars, the mussels looked delicious as well, I think this could be a regular for me, it's quite small inside but have outside as well and I like to be able to see the kitchen, had a couple of beers came out extremely happy! read more

The waiter forgot our order and had to come back 5 minutes later to ask us for our entire order again, which would've been okay, but even afterwards he gave my friend regular coffee instead of the decaf she ordered (luckily she asked him before drinking it and he said it was not decaf). The food was really disappointing. I ordered the vegetarian English breakfast and the avocado was clearly overripe (multiple brown holes and mushy texture) and the beans were definitely underdone and still hard. Oscar is a genius. I had a beef stew dish at this place probably more than two years ago and I found myself still talking about it excitedly when talking about food or good restaurants with friends. That dish was truly delicious and creative. Oscar simply put some plums into the beef stew and it changes everything and make it unforgettable (shhh, don't tell French people and let them keep being lost in wine!) There is only one regret - the gravy is so yummy and I wish I could have some bread or rice to soak into it. But there was none. This is a British restaurant and there is no complimentary bread, crackers, or even chips provided, nothing. So I had to pretend in front of my friends that I was not hungry and then secretly saved half of the dish especially the gravy for take out. I re-do it at home with some rice for another meal and it tasted so good! read more

I think is called English breakfast. Mushrooms has a weird taste to them and I didn't eat them. It was a decent "greasy breakfast" but when I was writing this I thought, would I rush back if I had a hang over? And the answer is no. My wife had the eggs coccoti, I think it was called.
