You could tell our server was trying to up sale as much as he could.. a little on the pushy/annoying side but I guess you have to do what you have to do! My fiancée is unfortunately allergic to seafood so we did wish they had more options without seafood.. even something basic like spaghetti or lasagna but overall it was great. We tried Oscar's awhile back and didn't have a spectacular experience. It was during the time when places were just starting to open up after Covid lockdowns so we just chalked it up to that and said we'd try again later. We finally got out there again last night and I have to say I don't understand the hype. For a $100 dinner for two I expect a fantastic meal. We got there early and sat at the bar. I got an old fashioned and my wife got some kind of chocolate martini. The old fashioned is one of the worst I've ever had. It had 0 presentation effort and just tasted like bourbon on the rocks. My wife said her martini had chunks of ice in it and just tasted like liquor. Once we got seated we experienced slow service despite it being near the end of the night and patrons thinning out. I got a steak with the garlic mashed potatoes. The steak was great and the potatoes were bland. My gripe is that it literally looked like my food was plated by a child. I'm not expecting an art show in front of me but for an expensive dinner you'd expect it to look like at least some effort was put in. Oh I forgot to mention we got the fried green tomatoes as an appetizer. I've had better. There was too much batter and not enough tomato. The ambiance was nice and clean as you'd expect for an upscale place. Slightly dimmed lighting throughout the building. Summary: should you completely avoid it? Let me be clear before I start this review. This is a review during the CORONA QUARANTINE TIMES. so a lot of what I am going to say here can be different once the place opens. The only reason why I am giving the amount of stars and rate I am right now is for the fact of the pacing of the meal for what we actually had as an experience if that makes sense. This is funny enough some sort of latin infusion place with plenty of Mexican inspired dishes and the place was closed during the social distancing time, only carry out was being conducted at the time so that is what we got. No drinks were ordered but we got some nice meals. CHIPS AND SALSA - it came with my order and I was happy cause their salsa is pretty tasty. the chips need a bit more salt but the chips were impressive in the sense that they did not feel nor look fatty and greasy. SEA FOOD BURRITO - this is what I ordered and this is the reason why I rated the restaurant the way I did. IN THE POSITIVE - there was plenty of seafood inside the burrito and it definitely did not taste fishy The meal was good and the sea food was fresh, the meal came with rice and salad no guacamole but they did provide a side of sour cream no beans.... generally beans come with burrito but not this one, not salad style beans but hot beans. the size of the meal was ok. Here is what I deeply disliked about the place: - when ordering over the phone we needed to pay before pickup, even tough we were 2 minutes away from the place and parked in front even before we finished ordering, but also what bugged us was the fact that they cannot split pay, they need to do separate orders even if you have a car with people trying to pay with different cards. that to me felt odd, I worked on hospitality for years and that just sounded like it was easier for the server not to do extra work. - the prices were absurd, the meal I got was 26 dollars and I tipped! I spent 30 dollars on a to go meal. I was not happy about that. Although the meal was good I was not impressed, for a carry out the price was definitely not worth it, I would never recommend anyone to come here and get food to go as it seems like their prices are not carry out friendly clearly. My friend and I went here for lunch today. I had it all planned out what I was going to eat (I'm a look-at-the-menu-ahead-of-time kinda gal). The waitress changed my mind though. She RAVED about the special, seafood crepes. The way she was talking about them, I had to try them for myself. They did NOT disappoint! They were so flavorful and delicious! I cleaned my plate, I was tempted to lick the remaining lobster creme sauce off my plate, but since this is a classy restaurant, I refrained. I love Oscars. My husband and I do the yearly tradition of coming here for Valentine's Day. My husband and I decided to try this place out for my birthday dinner and we're not disappointed! The bar drinks we had to start were delicious. The appetizer we got of shrimp cocktail and calamari were great! I was full after that so I got the scallop appetizer and Gouda Mac and cheese for my meal. Both were absolutely amazing! The scallops were cooked perfectly and the Mac and cheese was so savory. My husband got the seafood burrito and it was stuffed with seafood! I chose this place to host a surprise dinner for my friend and I'm so glad i did! As a fellow foodie and Yelp Elite member i had to ensure she would be satisfied with the food and service. I was able to make reservations via phone for 7:15 on Saturday. When we arrived we were promptly seated. Our server was also pleasant and provided drink recommendations as we waited for our other guests to arrive. The drinks were ok but could have used a bit more flavor. We chose calamari for our appetizer and it came with a sweet chili and marinara sauces which was really good and savory. For my entree i had the seafood burrito which is a house special and one of the recommendations of the server. The burrito was delicious and filling. The 17th was me and my boyfriend's 7 month anniversary. We decided to celebrate with dinner at Oscar's. We have been here together once before. The first time, we could not get a table in the main dining area without waiting, so we sat in the bar area. The same kind of thing happened this go around. We walked in, they told us there would be about a 30 minute wait. We discussed among each other if we should sit in the bar area again or leave, because I do not like waiting around to be seated. I have literally fainted from starvation at a restaurant that made me wait to be seated. Not for me. The hostess interrupts us and says that actually there's one more booth available now if we'd like to sit in the dining room. Ummmmm YES! They kept our business by doing this because we were about to leave. The booth was very nice, high booths that promoted privacy. I liked that there was a mirror next to our table. I could see my boyfriend even when I was looking away. It gave the experience an intimate feel. I really didn't notice much of what was going on in that restaurant. I was focused on my boyfriend and my food. For food, I ordered the chicken with crab meat on top. I don't remember what they called this dish. It was delicious however. It came with mashed potatoes and asparagus. When I say asparagus, we're talking two pieces. I'm not much of a vegetable eater anyway, so that did not affect my review. For dessert, I chose the chocolate bundt cake. It normally comes with coffee ice cream. I saw they also have cinnamon ice cream (on other desserts) so I asked if I could switch out my flavor. She said they were running a little low on cinnamon ice cream, but she would try. Sure enough, I got my cinnamon ice cream that night and I was certainly satisfied by my dessert choice. I was satisfied by the entire experience. We did not end up having to wait to be seated. We also had a very pleasant server who took very good care of us. The food was excellent. Bar staff were fast and friendly but that was only 10 minutes of my time spent at this restaurant. Upon being sat my friends and I were treated more like nuisances and not customers. The food was dry and had no seasoning. The "garlic" mashed potatoes had no flavor and seemed as if they were frozen and reheated. We went for my parents 35th anniversary. We chose to early to avoid the crowd and we are glad we did bc by the time we left, it had gotten crowded. Our waiter for very attentive and patient with our party having two little ones. Delicious drinks for the table. I got the pasta carbonara which has always been one of my favorite dishes at the Mustard Seed and have never found anywhere that can replicate it identically until Oscars! Very very disappointing. Hot food was lukewarm. Both the she crab and French onion were only warm. When the main course was ready it was put on a tray near by but was left unattended for almost 10 min and it lost most of it's heat if there was any. The place was not crowded so that's not an excuse. When we told that food was cold and even one person sent back a meal. No one cared. No manager - nothing. Never again. Oh. We even had to go looking for our bill. If you read the past couple of reviews it seems like it's a new downward trend. What was the most irritating factor was that NO ONE cared. I had their Frutti Di Mare. A seafood pasta dish. Shrimp, scallops, crab, tomato, spinach, parmesan cheese, light garlic cream sauce and linguine. Sounds a lot better than it was. read more

We then had for our lunch of Shrimp & Scallop Sautee, Sweet Tea Glazed Pork Chop and Shrimp & Salmon Pasta. Even more delish! And the serving sizes were more than we expected for lunch. Win-win! Wonderful dinner tonight! We went out to a fabulous restaurant called Oscar's. We started with fried green tomatoes with sweet onion jam and goat cheese. As well as fried calamari and onion soup. I had pan seared scallops with a roasted garlic risotto, Barry had frutti di mare (shrimp, scallops and crab) over linguini and we finished it off with bananas foster which we were too excited to take a picture until we finished it! I havent been here in about 30 years, since I lived in Summerville. Mainly because Summerville has grown so much. Guess what, it's still awesome! We were a party of four, and shared cold crab dip and bruschetta apps, which were very tasty, indeed. For entrees, 2 had the grouper special, 1 had the house salad and French onion soup, and I had the house salad and chicken Oscar. Everyone was very happy. My only regret was not just requesting steak oscar. I had to deconstruct mine, crabmeat, while delicious, my tastebuds did not care for combined with chicken. That said, I had my crab and hollandaise sauce first, then throughly enjoyed my chicken, creamy mashed potatoes and asparagus next. We all proclaimed our meals delicious. I got the ample serving of fried cheesecake later. Upon arrival and check in we only waited a few moments before being shown to a nice little corner table in their lounge area. The ambiance was lovely. The service could be better for what we experienced, but I do not want to take away from plenty of employees hustling their butts off on this busy night. Our server was just slow and not very on it. The food was good. I ordered my steak Oscar style and they brought it out without but luckily came soon after with it on the side to add to it. It was okay, I think the way they brought it out originally was the best move. It just wasn't as good as I have had in the past. The steak was flavorful and cooked to perfection though. The sides such as the mashed potatoes were a little cold but luckily I was saving my appetite so the hunger didn't mind. Oscar's is an upscale restaurant that has been a staple in Downtown Summerville for 40+ years. We stopped in on a Friday night and the restaurant was already busy by 6:30. We had a reservation but it looked like you could dine in the "lounge" without one. The service was quite good. I would recommend the French Onion Soup and the Peanut Butter Pie. I would not recommend the she crab soup or the side of asparagus. The she crab was fine but there's much better in the Charleston area and the side of asparagus was sad. My wife really enjoyed the Short Rib and I was satisfied with it. The real gem is the in house desert chef that had a wonderful selection.
